i like the Flyfish 3.5 inch frame. Made 2 one with Walksnail & one DJI Vista Pro an both fly pretty good. Both get great flight time an are super quiet. Fly both in front of the house to get a lil stick time. Kind of a fan of HappyModel so I used there Crazy F411 20A AIO with HappyModel EX1404-3500KV MOTORS. That black battery pad you got with that Flyfish frame kit is one of the best I ever used, pert near dont need a battery strap. Happy flying. Thumbs up👍
I have built 10 plus drones of all sizes and types, and to be honest I have never used flux. I use a thin strand of solder and it makes you feed alot of solder so the flux in the solder is enough for me. 🤷♂
Does it make sense to upgrade it to 6s, or is that overkill. I mean even with 6s motors you would still be able to use 4s batteries (and 6s for more power, the components (except the motors) seem to support 6s. Just starting out and kinda want my first drone to be perfect :) ?
I already have lots of 4s packs so that’s part of it and weight. This thing at its size already has tons of power. 6s packs are more expensive. But it’s up to you. More people run 6s than 4s across all sizes from what I’ve seen. And like you said 6s can run both so..
Thanks! I Appreciate it. I think im using a supafly 2-4 inch freestyle preset. But I usually make some tweaks to the tune based on how its flying. supafly has presets for 3-5 inch freestlye quads for BF 4.3 and 4.4. Im using just the pids though rates are my own preference.
nice looking one, i built the same frame-motors build this summer. just had speedybee f7 mini and vista system. love that thing, but its harder to be as smooth as on 5 inch rig. also idk if its only my frame but i had to file a bit the bottom frame to place the standoffs cuz they didnt want to get into the spots lol
Yeah the lighter weight quads are definitely not as smooth as 750gram 5" quad. I didn't have any issues with the standoffs but the screws for the arms were a little hard to screw in. 🤷♂. This night cam is amazing ill have some videos posted soon.

What action cam would you put on a 3.5 for freestyle? keep it small, but good in durability. i have a gopro8, but its a little big on this one i think?
with the frame you used, can I use any analog VTX and camera, or is it designed for the walk snail system. Also what battery are you running and how is the flight time?
you can use any analog vtx that will mount up in this frame. the mounting holes are 20x20 and 25x25. Or you can always use 3M double sided tape to mount the vtx too. And the camera spacing is 19mm or 20mm so your standard micro sized 19/20mm camera will work fine. For batteries I used ovonic 850mAh 4s lipos and flight time was 5-7 minutes.

Total beginner here, so the chance of me being wrong is quite high, but both ELRS antenna's are in the same orientation, and 1 is really close to the vtx antenna. Wouldn't it be better to do them allong the front arms? That way they are in a nice angle, preventing a situation where the blind spot of the two antenna's overlap. Or will the motor wires interfere to much in that orientation?
🤷♂ Eh yes and no. running them on the arms would work great. I just dont like the look of that and since this quad is never going further than maybe 2-3k feet away max, I dont have to worry much about antenna null. I have my 7" long range quad that has the antenna set up the exact same way and they are actually crossfire 915mhz antenna running elrs 2.4ghz 🤣. Lots of people told me I cant do it and it wont work but I have flown some miles on that set up. Never had an issue. I like to experiment and test things out especially when people say I cant. Always stay curious.

Im not sure because this is the walksnail vtx not the dji O3, the first flight section in this video is the vtx recording not the goggle dvr and it has props in view. I think this frame would have props in view with the O3.
I hope I'm not bothering you, but just one more thing, what c-rating would you suggest for a 4s 850mah battery? I'm making a similar build to yours, it has the same frame and motors.
No your good. The C rating thing is kinda BS, Its somewhat made up by manufacturer as a sales gimmick. But as long as the battery is "rated" around 90-120c they will work fine. C rating matters more when looking at batteries from the same manufacturer as they rate their own batteries differently. When looking at two different company's and one says 100c and the other says 120c thats just marketing BS.
The VTX is on UART 1 and the RX is on UART 2. sorry if i didn't explain that very well in the video. the plug for the VTX on the board is VBAT, Ground, T1,R1, Ground and R2. but the last ground and R2 are only for DJI If you are using SBUS and the DJI radio. I only used 4 wires in that plug excluding the second ground and R2. Hopefully this makes sense.
I kind of disagree with the 720p being obsolete. For me and my old eyes there is not much of a difference between 1080 and 720p visually, but 720 feels smoother.

I’m pretty sure they are only capable of 100fps. But advertised as being 1080/120 compatible. Either way the image of dvr looks great. I’m excited to be switching from DJI
Yeah I think I fly my o3 quads at 60fps that’s plenty enough for me. I think walksnail is only 1080 120 with the new goggles x. But I’m happy with how WS looks. 🤘
How the hell did you get the camera in there !?! I’ve been trying for a few days now to get my runcam wasp into the frame’s soft mounts and it won’t work
Not sure of the top of my head. I’ll let you know later. I know it’s under 250g without battery and over 250g with the battery for sure. Probably with a different frame and 1404 motors would get you under 250g with a battery.
@@DoktorSkill the 1804 3500kv will definitely make more thrust. The quad has plenty of power. Thats why I went with 18 and not 14. These motors were on the flyfishrc 3.5” bind and fly so I figured they would work well.

Wtf? I'm just getting back into the hobby after 7 years and just bought the whole DJI 03 set up. But after seeing this, I'm actually a bit upset that ive spemt so much on the system when i could have bought this one!
DJI and O3 are still the top of the line best performance across all areas. But you pay a premium for it. If you have the money for lots of O3 quads and the goggles 2, nothing beats if for 3" and larger quads. Walksnail beats dji in price and variety of vtx, like there 1s boards for micros or toothpick builds.
Vista would probably give better overall performance but since I have the goggles v2 I would have to downgrade firmware to use it and then upgrade again to fly my O3 quads. Or buy the 700$ DJI goggles 2 that will connect to both on newest firmware.

Kind reminder to use and mention importance of flux when soldering please. A lot of people screw up joints not prepping/ cleaning them properly .

Oh yes. This was my biggest problem building my first drone was getting the solder to stick to the pads. Flux really turns the difficulty down

Just use the Supafly 3-4 inch preset tune. Thats what im using. and I use the Supafly 5 inch preset on my 5" quads.

Definitely 4s 850mah. And yes you need a battery for the goggles. It comes with an xt60 to barrel plug but not a battery.

I didn't put a gps on mine but you might be able to fine a 3D print for it. If not maybe find a way to mount it to the top plate.

Props are in view with this frame. If they have this frame in deadcat and you dont want props in view id try the deadcat.

yes 650mah will do fine might have slightly less flight time than an 850 mAh, but it will still fly great.

Anytime the osd is on screen it’s dvr. If there is no osd it’s the recording from the walksnail vtx, recording in 1080.

I believe it came with 2 different soft mounts, one is for 19mm standard size camera and the other is 20mm for the slightly wider O3 camera.

This is the “pro” version vtx with the Sony night camera.

Not sure I don’t have a gps on this so I can’t tell. But based on my other quads that have a gps I’d guess between 50-70 mph.

13:28 too much solder on the motor pads. and in my opinion the power cables are too close to each with that solder "nose"
