Theres a v2 of this frame now . Made a few improvements and lightened the frame slighly too . I have both the v1 qnd v2 and both have taken a beating and are still going strong
FlyFish's logo is awesome. So simple and so effective. Edit: Black and Decker makes several decent electric drivers that are more than capable of driving screws on a drone for $40 or less depending on the model. I have the "pivot" version and it works well for driving anything you might drive by hand.
When I first saw it with all of the parts bags it was intimidating but after I went through it once, but the second run through it everything made sense. I do like all the extras as it came in handy when I was mounting the VTX and trying to get other things to work. They should divide the parts in two, the absolutly needed for assembly and the bags that you may need. So far so happy.
It was a very intuitive, smooth build, with very snappy looking 3D prints but I already have a trio of heavyweight girls. In the beginning, a heavier more durable quad is good but sometimes raw power is fun too 😁 Great review JB.
I just assembled this frame a couple days ago. I didn't know they had detailed instructions. I just had to figure it out haha. Also it's the first frame I ever put together.
@@QuandarNl I'm sorry, I read your question five times and I'm not sure what you are asking. Just to be clear I haven't built this quadcopter yet, I had to buy a new car so it was put on hold. Perhaps if I watch the video again you're question will make more sense.
Awesome video as always . I dream of this frame I want one so bad just can’t afford new carbon . Can’t wait to hopefully one day meet you mr bardwell and shake your hand and thank you for all your advice and knowledge through my fpv journey . Forever grateful and thankful 🙏. Bonus would be to rip a pack or 2 with ya 🤜🤛😎
I have the DC version of that. And I had to buy TPU inserts, put em into the mounts, which had to be turned inside out, and then make sure the cam wasn't touching the frame, in order to keep jitters out of the camera's gyro data. Otherwise - it's a great frame, as JB noted.
Take a look at the O3 DeadCat version of the MK5. It's basically this frame, but without the unnecessary bling Flyfish added. They also sacrificed weight for the dead cat layout. MK5 - 158g MK5X O3 - 156.1g MK5D O3 - 197.0g
This new content is making me want to switch all of the gear from one of my drones to a new frame . 😛 Off topic tho I think it would be productive to use a drone to drop a 150 mm popper on breezing Bluefin Tuna from a distance but design a setup that can be used rapidly to deploy baits and lures for 25 rods , one right after the other . Currently some sportfishing charters use kites and balloons so bait placement is dictated by boat positioning and the wind . Its very productive for Bluefin Tuna ( 40 to 180 pounds ) in the proper situation and when nothing else is working. A drone can move at any angle across or against the wind so that bait placement can be dramatically improved and expedited. I've seen a few fishing assist drones online and are mostly used for surf casting long distances . Hovering over a drifting boat is probably challenging.
I got the v1 frame about 4 months ago and still love it. The build is pretty straight forward, parts are quality. My daily go to 5", flies great. Always a very detailed video JB!!
I've been flying the VX5 for a few months and it's really durable. The only thing I didn't like when building it was the power wires. if your esc positive and negative aren't lined up with the connector you gotta cross the wires and it's a tight fit.
I have started using 3mm grommets on my screws that hold TPU on like the front bumper, got a bag of 250 for 6 bucks on Amazon They just kinda smash down so your screw is tight without crushing tpu
So the one I got was little different in that the pressed nuts were not that same. Top plate was not cu out for battery slip pad. Well over all it was a great build thanks Josh.
It would be great if you could measure the frames and quads you get in a similar manner to make them comparable. Not sure which frame you mean with 110g, but from what I found the QAV-S Joshua Bardwell Special Edition is 107g WITHOUT battery pad, hardmounted XT60, chin guard, arm guard, antenna holders and stack screws. The rotor riot tanq which you quote as "only 180 grams" is 184.8g on your scale, without battery pad, XT60, chin guard, arm guard and stack screws. I don't think a manufacturer should be shamed for providing optional additional pieces.
I guess you need to subtract the XT60 weight, because that‘s usually hanging on the ESC wires, but that won‘t make that much of a difference. My 7 inch frame weighs 150g, and that’s pretty durable too, so for a five inch that weight is a deal breaker for me as well.
Hey buddy, do you know these small screw sets with the small screw heads and screwer (don't know the exact word). Do you know why it's hard to apply much torque with these tools while screwing stuff in? It's so you don't strip it. You're using a power tool, for aluminium screws, relax, or set the torque to 1nm, and do the rest manually.
The torque on my driver is adjustable simply by twisting my wrist. It has a gyro in it. I am turning them in as gently as possible. They are not stripping because I have an electric driver.
I am building my first ever FPV freestyle quad. I am going fairly budget with the electronics, all analog. Would this be a good frame? I was considering the One Source V5, Roma F5 V2, and Marmotte as well. I know I don't need to spend quite so much on the frame but assuming I enjoy the hobby I'd like to eventually go digital and would likely use the same frame. Or maybe not? Also I will be mounting a go-pro and be using it as a Freestyle/Cinematic. Thank you regardless!
Hi, I just finished my first quad using your videos! But I did something wrong with the VTX, I got the wrong type of antenna. Now ordering again I want to make sure that I'm getting something that is suitable for my needs, I'm ordering a "lollipop antenna" since it has pretty good reviews but I'm not sure about it's range (which is the most crucial factor for me) in comparison to other antennas. Could you please make a video on that or tell me what type of antenna would be best for high range flying? Thanks!
It would be great to see more of the non- bias effected reviews. One in wich the product isn’t rated upon one’s own personal taste rather the overall experience and quality attention to detail ext. is a slick strap worse than a frame that doesn’t include one at all?
Yes a slick strap is worse because it's just a waste. This isn't just a preference. I acknowledge preference when I express then. A battery strap that ejects your battery is worse than one that doesn't.
But doesn't extra weight even though obviously thicker is stronger create more mass slamming into the ground? To me anytime I fly a heavier gopro or a tank like this they seem to slam the ground way harder to me. Wich to me isn't worth giving up the flight performance for the "durability"
