Use 2 elastics- divide your hair into 2 sections (start at your ears and section off where a headband would sit.) The biggest section that is the lower section, pull it into a ponytail at the hight you want it. I was told by a really good trichologist in Europe that it's more important to dry your roots with a dryer than your strands particularly if you suffer from itchy scalp as it could be due to a proliferation of malessezia fungi. She told me NOT to wait, to dry it right away with low heat, again just the roots. I started doing precisely that and it has made such a big difference.
For the elastics, I use the plastic curly scrunchies, and have used them for a year, with minimal hair breakage; I definitely recommend them, and they aren’t super expensive either

I check my hair and it’s probably about 75-80% dry. Then I use the heatless curl or is that literally take me five minutes to put in my hair, and go to bed. When I wake up, I take my hair out and I have super full beach waves/medium curls. Since I don’t ever have more than two minutes to myself, I make sure that I fit into my routine bc I have noticed. I feel a lot better about myself if I have something done to my hair, or if I have three minutes to put on mascara & liner that day🥴😂 but yeah, I just think about your schedule and how you can fit it in at night so that you can wrap your hair up and go right to sleep!

Beautiful healthy hair is not that important for everyone. It is for me (also a mom) so I wash my hair only twice a week and max three in the summer (if it’s really hot) I never neglect my hair. Being a mom and busy is never an excuse for me to not take care of myself.
@Dora Campos you're lucky! Live in humid Oahu I need to shower every night just to feel clean haha. I love keeping my long hair clean and healthy as I can.

Ok y'all! Wearing your hair up in a tight ponytail for extended periods of time can lead to permanent hair loss later in life. @@sadandreas5295 I may have worded the first part wrong/confusing, but the ending is still right coarse curly hair is strongest when wet, fine hair is not. If your curls are fine hair then no your hair is not strongest when wet just because you have wavey/curly hair. It's about texture and porosity.
@@wutarrwedoin I have thick curly hair that is easily prone to tangles and mats. I have family members with the same kind of hair, friends with the same kind of hair. I know people who have knowledge with hair. ANY hair type is weakest when wet. The shaft of our hair has proteins made up of bonds, and when the hair is wet the bonds become weaker. It literally adds so much weight, making the cuticles more likely to snap when being brushed or pulled through. It’s easy logic. Just because certain hair is “fine” doesn’t mean that’s the ONLY hair type prone to breakage because of water weight. EVERY single hair type is affected. To avoid damage, air drying or anything heat free is suggested (can use leave ins). Combing/detangling before showering is suggested. Going back to detangle afterwards before styling should be around 65% - 70% dry. For hair types between 3c - 4c adding more products to help build moisture whilst detangling is very important. Any hair type could have added assistance, but the more coily hair types struggle more with dryness/brittleness than others. It’s common for people to use water sprays or oils to help with the combing process, but it should never be when it’s soaking wet.
Girl actually your hair is stronger when it’s wet because it’s more flexible so brush it before bed so that in the morning your hair isn’t as knotty and you aren’t ripping out a lot of hair.❤
Absolutely not! You’re hair is in it’s weak state when wet. That’s why it stretches. When dry start combing from the bottom and not the root. This will help remove tangles without ripping hair out

These tips are to prevent damage that could potentially form, not damage that will inevitably happen. So don’t misinterpret things you hear on the internet and go read a book
When I understood that falling asleep with wet hair caused my hair to be really yicky, itchy scalp and even fungus 😱 it really changes my life! Yeah, it is sad not just falling asleep right after a shower/bath, but now I just tie my hair up instead so that is not a problem. So the last five years my scalp is so healthy and my hair is soooo good, almost always only wash and rince once or maximum twice a week, before I rinsed it almost everyday, but not anymore, and it is much fresher, the opposite I thought it would 😊❤
sleeping on wet/drying hair is the best way to get my hair to feel amazing and soft and not fluffy without products or anything. Doing this makes my hair feel healthier than not
As a cosmologist, I am over the moon with my bf’s hip-length hair. He rarely gets tangles, and has 0 split-ends; his method is conditioning in place of shampooing most showers, air or t-shirt drying, and wearing loose buns. The best professional advice anyone can give you is to go the extra mile and do the things that are tried and true.
Regarding hair drying advice: I used to let my hair dry on its own before. If it's not a hot summer, my hair takes quite a long time to dry, sometimes it was in a towel for an hour. In recent years I noticed I had minor dandruff (dry and itchy scalp). I was advised by hairstylist to blow dry my hair after washing it (not waiting till 80% is dry), ideally with lower heat setting. The idea is to not have a wet scalp for a long time as humid scalp can be a birthplace for bad bacteria. I started blow-drying and it helped tremendously! Of course, it depends on the person and their hair type, but if your hair takes too long to dry on its own, you should definitelly help it with blow drier.

Good to know
And those of us with busy schedules…none of this is possible 😂
Right
For the elastics, I use the plastic curly scrunchies, and have used them for a year, with minimal hair breakage; I definitely recommend them, and they aren’t super expensive either
@@C4TC4T what brand do you use?
@@EarnestElephant honestly i just use the cheapest ones I can find, Walmart has some good ones (I’m not sure which brand they are) I use a variety of brands, and they are all great
Why? I’m a mom of 7, all 13 & under and I work and clean my home 3:4 hours daily bc I’m OCD 🥴 regardless I wash my hair every other day, even though it’s not good for my hair I know, but my OCD will not allow me to go any longer, I get a shower and wash my hair, do my lotion and my facial routine, it takes about 15 minutes and then I fold a load of laundry and pick up around the house and right about the time I’m done with everything.

Ive been going to bed with wet hair every night since I was able to shower on my own. I’m 22 now and have maintained hair down my butt/longer without it ever getting straggly or anything. I also wash my hair almost everyday and I use cheap shampoo 🤷🏻♀️👍🏻
Me too but i think we have a genetic advantage since this is just not the same for most people

...me literally lying in bed about to go to sleep with wet hair
I will still go to bed while my hair is wet and I will continue to go to bed with my hair in a pony tail. Don't like my hair all in my face
Yeah I almost always do this but I just make sure not to sleep on it, I let it dry on a towel when I sleep if I can, like if it's still super soaked
As a mother of three I find it dang near impossible to let my hair almost 30 inches long dry 80% before blow drying it. I barely shower before a reasonable time! I'm showering after my children sleep and by the time I'm done I just want to sleep and not think about my hair being dry but it does need to be brushed at least haha
Beautiful healthy hair is not that important for everyone. It is for me (also a mom) so I wash my hair only twice a week and max three in the summer (if it’s really hot)
I never neglect my hair. Being a mom and busy is never an excuse for me to not take care of myself.
@Dora Campos you're lucky! Live in humid Oahu I need to shower every night just to feel clean haha. I love keeping my long hair clean and healthy as I can.
@@doracampos2088 good for you
I stopped sleeping on wet hair and found the condition of my hair deteriorated pretty quickly. Wrapping it up wet in a soft turban and letting it dry naturally overnight keeps it so soft
I have a salt water pool and everyone loves the way their hair feels after they get it wet. I agree it’s so soft and feels like silk . Idk why but it’s way different than chlorine hair
That's.... very interesting
Omg I want a saltwater pool!! I live in FL and love the beach but I recently moved and its too far - and its always full of red tide. But I hate normal pools. Now I need to do some research
Somehow my wavy hair wakes up with best ever curls when I go to sleep and is moist! Then next days waves are gone.
Same, my hair always looks great when I go to sleep with it wet or damp. I feel I’d have more defined waves if I didn’t brush my hair when wet, but it’s a mess if I don’t.
Same. My hair looks amazing when i shower at night and go to bed with it damp
Yeah the wet hair thing is only for straight hair. Curly hair is the strongest when wet so I guess yours is in the middle.
Same, but so it does using a diffuser
I have straight hair, but when I do the spiky bun, but keep twisting instead of leaving spikes, I wake up and undo it and it's all beautiful waves 😍

I’ve had my hair tied into a tail for years. The only thing it created is a beautiful wave that gives my hair lots of volume. No regrets. I don’t wear my hair tied anymore nowadays but wearing my hair into a tail that long was a great decision that I would totally do again👍🏻
@Maja ah well I never dyed my hair so I can’t relate
Same thing happened to me :O
Ok y'all! Wearing your hair up in a tight ponytail for extended periods of time can lead to permanent hair loss later in life.
When I was a teen I'd wear my hair up so tight (as was the trend in the early 2000's) and now in my 30's I'm losing hair around my hairline, it's irreversible. Please don't do what I did as a teen and wear loose hairstyles as much as you can instead. ♥️
Thank you for these tips. Very helpful !
Ok but if i left my hair dry 80% before blow drying it my day is gone 💀
okay, I make it a PRIORITY to sleep with my hair wet with a hair tie in, as a messy bun at night. My hair is ✨Muah✨
Same :)
i literally do these all, i get compliments on my hair all the time, i think y’all are fine 😭.
i would love to know what she would say to dancers. having to wear buns most of the time, always having our hair up…
also dance class is at night and ain’t no way i am taking the time to blow dry my hair before bed. i got school the next day and i’m also not gonna wake up earlier to shower.
Exactly, I’m a swimmer so most of my time is spent in the pool. So how the hell you expect me to not get chlorine in my hair, even with a cap on it’s going to happen. And I feel you with night practices, you gotta be out of your damn mind if you think I’m waiting until my hair is 80% dry to blow dry it; plus my hair is curly so it takes longer to dry 😭

Which is actually great advice for any swimmer and perfectly doable.
That's why Jojo Siwa cut her hair and stopped wearing ponytails. She made a video all about her hair being so damaged and she started getting traction alopecia and a receding hairline on one side.

Ok, but for those who just can't wait until is 80% dry (like me lol), I follow a Korean hairstylists and in one of her videos she says that you should try to soak as much water you can with a cotton t-shirt or a microfiber towel, and then use lukewarm air, then putting the hair dryer a little bit far from your hair to prevent heat damage try to dry it for 40 secs and then let the rest dry naturally.
I do, and it turns fine.

For the 2nd i experienced it. The elastics damage my hair alot it literally broke my hair in half where i use hair band and my hair used to look like a broom when i do ponytails so i stopped them and started using scrunchies somehow i got rid of that problem 💜
Invisibobbles are really good too.

I was raised to only dry my hair 80% with a hair dryer and then leave it to air dry by itself.....
Being honest though I sleep with my hair damp… It helps (I also sometimes braid it for curls in the morning)
I actually think it makes mine somehow smoother? I don't turn around much so it just gets pressed mostly which is think gets me better results than air drying or drying with a hair dryer.
@@ceton1843 yep, it prevents frizz. Lately I've been putting my hair on the very top of my head in a spiral bun, secured with a claw clip, and sleeping on a satin pillowcase. The volume and waves are great. I have wavy hair naturally, but this prevents frizz and I hardly need much styling.
“Don’t do any of these common things that literally everyone does, or you hair will fall out”☠️

I’m sorry, I live in an arctic climate. I literally cannot let my hair air dry that much, especially having long hair. Long hair keeps me warm, so I’m not cutting it. I let it air dry 20% and go from there otherwise it will literally freeze solid. 😅😅😅
Otherwise, I’m definitely going to have to get better scrunches. Adding to this list: protect your hair when wearing over the ear hearing protection or headphones. It WILL cause breakage if you use them often enough.

curly hair is actually in its strongest state when it’s wet.
It actually isn’t, because it adds weight to the curls which weakens strands.. ANY hair type is weakest when wet.
@@Aylii1 no, it's the strongest when wet. You never brush or do anything to coarse curly hair when it's dry because it will 100% break. It's strongest state is wet...maybe fine hair is weak when wet but not coarse hair.....do you have this hair type? Because......
@@wutarrwedoin now what about fine yet wavy/curly hair 🙃😭
Omg I have been sleeping with wet hair and going in the pool with dry hair! Thanks 🙏
I have short tomboy hair and tbh I CANNOT wait long to dry it, if i dont dry the front it will stay A MESS until i wash it again lol

Girl actually your hair is stronger when it’s wet because it’s more flexible so brush it before bed so that in the morning your hair isn’t as knotty and you aren’t ripping out a lot of hair.❤
Thats not true!
Absolutely not! You’re hair is in it’s weak state when wet. That’s why it stretches. When dry start combing from the bottom and not the root. This will help remove tangles without ripping hair out

The elastic example is due to over-processing and damaged hair. Not the elastic. That is an after issue.

These tips are to prevent damage that could potentially form, not damage that will inevitably happen. So don’t misinterpret things you hear on the internet and go read a book
I need a video like this, but for black girl hair.
When I understood that falling asleep with wet hair caused my hair to be really yicky, itchy scalp and even fungus 😱 it really changes my life! Yeah, it is sad not just falling asleep right after a shower/bath, but now I just tie my hair up instead so that is not a problem. So the last five years my scalp is so healthy and my hair is soooo good, almost always only wash and rince once or maximum twice a week, before I rinsed it almost everyday, but not anymore, and it is much fresher, the opposite I thought it would 😊❤
Great tips!!

sleeping on wet/drying hair is the best way to get my hair to feel amazing and soft and not fluffy without products or anything.
