Here's my review of the gen 4 Glock 19. If you've been looking for a compact pistol, you've probably come across the Glock 19. It's a renowned handgun that's extremely popular and a ton of people love it. And here's the deal, I count myself among those that love the G19, specifically the gen 4 version, and in today's review, I'm gonna do my best to explain why. The Glock 19 is pretty much the perfect size all-around handgun. The reason why is that it's a smooth shooting pistol with decent capacity that you can also carry concealed. Now the size of the grip plays a large role in all this. It's short enough so that it won't stick out too much while you've got it concealed inside your waistband, but it's also long enough to get a complete grip on the gun with all fingers wrapping around for support. To me, this all makes it a lot more comfortable and fun to shoot than something like a subcompact gun where your pinky is left hanging in no man's land. In addition to that, the slide length gives a nice balance between concealability and sight radius. It's much shorter than my Glock 34, which of course is an important dimension if you plan on carrying the gun. But even though it does have that shorter slide, for some reason, I've always found the Glock 19 to be a really easy gun to shoot. Now the sights on all of the standard Glocks are polymer. Which is honestly something I don't like. They do, however, give a sight picture that works, and you can see that I usually paint my front sights bright red because it draws in my eye a little easier. Now, I would prefer if the standard Glock sights were metal and if that front sight was a little more narrow. But the good news is, it's a Glock so you can easily find high-quality sights from a whole host of aftermarket companies for it. And eventually, I'll be switching these out to something like the Warren Tactical sights I have one my G34. I also like that the Glock 19 is a really simple gun to operate. You really only have 3 basic controls. First, you have the slide lock/ slide release. I call it both because it will do both, and for me, it's in just the right spot to use it without really changing my shooting grip. Second, you have the mag release. This is actually one of the reasons I like gen 4 Glocks over other generations, and I really like it because it's large and easy to get to. And just so you know, the standard mags for the Glock 19 hold 15 rounds, but it will take Glock 17 mags which hold 17 rounds, and the 31 rounders as well. And the third control is the trigger. Now the standard Glock trigger pull isn't bad, but even if you don't like it, there are tons of aftermarket connectors, springs and other internals that you can use to improve it. Now, I do prefer the gen 4 Glock 19 over the gen 3 and the new gen 5. Again, you get that large magazine release button which is a big improvement over the gen 3s. I also like the gen 4 texturing on the grip. And for me, the extra backstraps with beavertails are a big plus because, without them, I get slide bite while shooting Glocks. Now my only issue with the gen 5 Glock 19 is the magwell they mold into the polymer. I'm not a fan of it in general, but to me, it really doesn't make much sense to add extra width on a compact gun that you might conceal carry. So there you have it, the gen 4 Glock 19 is a simple gun to operate, a great size for conceal carry, and it's a comfortable and easy shooter. If you've got your eye on one, I'd say grab it because it's definitely one of the best compact pistols in the world.

Hey i got that exact same slide cover plate lol. This really is a nice gun. I had to add an extended mag release and slide release on mine bcuz i just didn't like the factory ones. I absolutely love my g19 g4.

Just great Vid Just purchased this for my wife today had a quick question..When she racks her G19 it doesn’t lock in place wanted to know does your lock in place when you rack it??

If it has an empty magazine inserted, it should lock back when she racks the slide. If there is no mag inserted or a loaded mag, then the slide should not lock back. I hope this helps!

I recently shot the gen 5 at my local range and liked it quite a bit, but I'm hoping to find a gen 4 to purchase (looks like it might be slightly smaller in overall dimensions and has a smaller magwell while still having interchangeable backstraps). I know they were officially discontinued by the manufacturer 2 years ago or so, but how easy or difficult is it to find one on the used market?
The Gen 4's are great, but I would also say don't be afraid to go with a Gen 5. I have a Gen 5 Glock 45 that I've been conceal carrying, and the magwell is not a big issue. The Gen 5s are great too 👍

I just cut down one of the included factory beaver tails and attached it. Just like you said, it doesn’t fatten the grip, and it stops me from getting slide bite (which I do get when shooting glocks without it)

It's just the one that comes with the Glock. I just cut the bottom off of it because I wanted the beavertail (sometimes I get slide bite) without adding extra size to the grip.
Is that flat dark Earth or OD green? I can't tell.
