Can this shifter be removed from the bar end mounts and use them as downtube shifters on a steel frame with the braze on? Thank You

      Hi,
Please refer to the following video where I install the shifters:
      ruclips.net/video/Pp1W7tDnM5E/видео.html
The bar end mounting section can be removed, but I think it will be to big to mount in the down tube

Nice presentation, but one never sees the actual shifters themselves. You needed to do close-ups so we could actually see the numbers on the shifters.

What if you have a hybrid bike? Road means wheels 700c can use V brakes and for touring you want to do that, but, uh oh entering into MTB territory v brake levers OK, twisters take up too much space, shift levers cheap and plastic, match v levers to v brakes oh your hybrid is a 7 speed, it appears there is only ONE solo shifter component that is going to be compatible with your deore V brakes and levers and that is the Altus. Searched friction levers mounted bar end, everywhere but I guess friction bar end manufacturers left out the 7-speed crowd?

Had to watch this video without sound. Do you know if these will work with shimano derailiuers?

    • @BrianMaynardLetsDoThisThing
      @BrianMaynardLetsDoThisThing  3 года назад

Yes. I am using it with a shimano XT derailer. But before you order it. You need to make sure which version you get. There is a MTB version and a road version. This refers to the type of derailer you are going to use.

The shifter in the video comes in 2 version. One for a road derailleur and the other for a MTB derailleur. They are not interchangeable as the pull ratio is different

Hi Brian--realise this was a little while ago, but how do you like the performance of the shifters?
I am looking at this for a 2x11 gravel bike I am building.

What is the diffence between road bike and mnt bike shifter?

      Hi,
If you are referring to the bar end shifters. The rear shifter can be configured in two different modes. The first is a friction mode in which when shifting you don't get any feedback from the shifter it's self. You simply just move the shifter until the gear changes. The front shifter can only be configured in this way. The second mode is a positive click mode in which every time you shift the lever it clicks so as to indicates that the next gear has been selected. In both modes, you can move through all the gears with one movement of the lever, both up and down. Once you have shifted both up or down. The lever will remain in its new position.
A MTB shifter, on the other hand, is what they call a trigger shifter. It has two levers. One for upshifting and the other for downshifting. When you want to shift into a harder gear you press the small lever and the shifter makes a click sound and then shifts one gear. so if you want to shift 3 gear you need to press the lever 3 times. To shift into an easier gear you press the big lever and it changes gears in the same way. The only difference is that when you want to shift downshift (Into an easier gear) you are able to shift more than one gear at a time. This is handy in cases when you encounter an uphill. In both up and down shifting the levers return to there original positions.
Then there are electronic shifters which I guess is a subject on its own.
I hope this answered your question

@brian do you know if the bar end shifter could be swapped onto the flat bar mount? Curious if I could Just swap mounts instead of having to redo everything with a handlebar change.

    • @BrianMaynardLetsDoThisThing

gredah the shifters are designed to fit into the bar ends. So if it was fitted onto a flat bar, they would stick out sideways. Not sure if this answers your question.

    • @pierreblenderbuss9807

Bar ends are really meant for drop bars. Look at the other Microshift shifters--they even do an old skool thumbshifter.
