your 16 run was a major milestone of mine, and I've almost beat it, but now this is gonna be my new 70 goal
I have the exact same feelings xd. I recently beat the 16 star example run time with a 17:04 and now my goal is to beat this time
@@Razi7s razi vappy hates u bby
@@melocotonarchive4788 i knew it.
@@Razi7s lmao
Did you achieve ur goal?
great commentary dude, thank you. Every guide I have seen has said 'mash the pole' in BitS without specifying you need to mash B lol... I've been mashing A and B and its been doing my head in
Your 16 Star Video helped a lot, and this one does too! Thanks :)
Wow This Was so helpful. Before watching this I had a 54:43 and i felt like i wasn't improving. however after watching this i got back into 70 star and after some practice and some attempts i got a 53:48 so i carried on and now i have a 52:46. there was so many small thing i didn't do before which i now do which helped and my movement has improved a lot. thank you so much for this video.
That's awesome news! Thanks for the kind words
I picked up the game about a month ago and started messing around with speedrunning tricks for fun. After watching a few Cheese05 runs he said the best way to get better is to do 70 star. The same exact week GSA 70 star qualifier begins and I discovered a runner named BlueBob. Come to find out he has an amazing 70 star tutorial I'm going to challenge myself with. Maybe you'll see me run in next year's event. Thanks for your help!!!
Whats your best time so far?
Starting with 16 star is also good
@@TheMagicFellow I agree 16 star is better for beginners to see if you like running the game, but 70 star will get you better at your movement and dosen't rely on glitches that ruins runs, so overall I think 70 will get you better at the game.
this run was the main resource i used to learn 70 and was always my goal to beat. its a fantastic video with fantastic commentary!
Hey bob just wanted to say thanks. Your 16 star vid got be from a 34 to a 25(I stated 3 months ago) I’m gonna study this video and once I get sub 20 on 16 star I’m gonna use this to try 70. Much appreciation!!
** current 70 is 133 with a horrible routing
Happy I can help, good luck!
i'd love a 120 star example :)
This was on my recommended today and I'm just now realising I used your tutorials to learn 64 😳
Ayy glad to help a legend get started
I checked this out hoping to see some easy but good gameplay as I couldn't find a guide for 120 star. This still showed me a lot I didn't do yet, and not knowing how to perfect swim doesn't help lol
Lots of helpful tips, great video =)
I find most of the tutorial to be a great help to me, ive been practicing for around a couple of weeks or so, and i get up to bowser 2 fairly well. Although the second floor of the castle is gonna have to be quite a bit of practicing.
what input view software do you use? and if its open joystick display could you show me where yo got the skin?
the input display is looking nice lmao
Thanks for this! I’ve got frickin Shindou version so I’m stuck with 70
120?
Good luck bluebob I really like your voice it makes me feel at peace :)
My currently sum of best segments for 16 star is 21:58... After watching this video it came to my mind that I should try running 70 stars to improve my movement to improve my 16 star runs..
Edit: my sum of best segments is now 20:50.. I'm getting there 😂
hello mr bluebob, thank you for the video. it would be amazing if you could make a guide for 120 star as well. The only one i have found is from 6 years ago
Thank you! Hoping to get sub 1 hour by the end of the year and this has been very helpful.
As a beginner myself i opt to do penguin race in CCM to skip the flying ship star in Rainbow Ride, i also opt to do the monkey star in TTM to skip 100 coins in tick tock clock. Its slower but easier to get into runs. The flying boat strat is too inconsistent for me but when i do master it im skipping the thomp star in tick tock.
I use none pillarless instead of TTT100
Gonna use it as an example on how to play this game.
this is for beginners? dang, my first run was over two hours, and I've been speedrunning for a while. I have a 1:11 time, hopefully with this tutorial, I can finally get sub hour. that would be great. this is the greatest tutorial ever made as well. (shoutouts to simpleflips) :)
Hope it helps!
@@BlueBobsCinema it finally helped, because I now have a 1:06. thanks for the tutorial, I will still be going for sub hour.
You get it?
@@Bendyrulz it seemed to work since i worked my way into the top 60 of 16 star for this game.
Really helpful. Does lag reduction apply to virtual console too? Thanks
Virtual Console doesn't have any lag, if you intend to switch to N64 at any time though it can't hurt to get used to the reductions!
Do lag reductions and things like that matter in the Mario 3D All-Stars version?
In most cases no, but I believe there might be some to deal with in DDD?
Thanks for the video mate!
49:12 Haha you said doodoo...
im having lots of trouble reducing lag while running on top of bowsers sub. any tips? im trying to copy the inputs but i doesnt seem to work.
You want to be spamming c-left every chance you can while on top of the ship, making sure you go around the left side of the fin as well
BlueBob youre the best. ive been using this guide for my speedruns and i am a minute off sub hour only after 2 months of runs! appreciate u
At 28:50 you get basically no lag, however on my console this would cause the game to literally run at like 3FPS, is there a reason for that? I’m on NTSC J so idk if that affects it but there are many other places in the game where I notice worse lag than you such as the fortress star and the Boxes in WDW
The camera angle that you use can heavily impact lag. I'd have to see exactly what you do to give a specific answer, but its likely the camera.
@@BlueBobsCinema I believe I might be changing it a bit too late, I focus a lot in attempting to reduce lag in multiple places so I was confused as to why sometimes I’d try to identically emulate top runners’ camera angles and still get more lag, slowly figuring a few things out tho
Venting slightly, though I don't think that's the right word. I'm disappointed, not angry. Kinda looking for moral support too.
So yeah I can't do the jump at 2:55.
As in: at all - I haven't done it once.
It really doesn't bode well to run into this kind of problem so early into practice (literally the second star). I feel like I must be missing something, but even if I am and the solution is really simple doubtless I'll just miss more things in future. I only really picked it up because of the oddly large number of people who seem to do so and have a 1:30 within a month. I thought because of this that it was just easier than I'd assumed. But getting impossibly stuck at the first hurdle doesn't exactly make me want to continue.
What is happening that's causing you to fail it? It's likely a simple fix that isn't always easy to pick up on as a beginner.
@@BlueBobsCinema I've found an easier route (from SeanRaider's guide) I've managed to complete a few times. It's slower (at least I think it is), but getting started is more important than being fast.
As for the trick itself, the weird combination of jumps, kicks and slides is just too complex a series of inputs for me right now. As well as the odd angle you seem to have to jump at.
This has helped me thank you
How do you change the water level wdw is at before you touch any of those red pyramid things
the water level height is determined by how high you are when you enter the painting
Does it make a difference whether i do the first slide star before WF or is that irrelevant?
Doing the first slide star before WF is actually about 1 second faster, on the other hand every reset in whomps is ~45 seconds later into the run so it's entirely up to you.
I'll be using this :^)
Thanks for the video this video has helped me out alot for 70 star. Does anyone know where I could go to submit a video of one of my runs and get some coaching or tips to get better? Thank you.
for submitting rund, most people submit them to speedrun.com
I did not try the strategy at 2:53. If I have too much trouble getting that double jump what would the next best route be?
I would suggest just practicing it. I'm just learning this run now and it didn't take too much practice to get it fairly consistent
@@LEITHAL practicing that strat, or doing a slower, but easier route first, which I did
4 years late but yoooo gaminggg
thanks dude
having trouble with camera movement at 46:05 to the end of the blue coins. my camera is always messy i can't get it straight to the longjump like this video
Hmm not too sure what the issue could be there, are you in mario cam c-down? If you're in lakitu cam it would probably be weird.
@@BlueBobsCinema thanks i got it im just bad with the camera lol
There's no save delay on the PC port. Can just mash through that dim screen.
The PC port is an entire different category
@@zig8737 Makes sense logically. I completely support a new category for ports of any kind.
I really like that they allow emulators because most games don’t allow emulators but this does
@hackergaming6372 Well they only allow 1 emulator. I'm pretty sure the emulator was made for Mario 64 RTA runs
does anyone know how to get exactly that same controller map on screen I love it
Pretty sure you have to be playing on an original N64 for it to even work
This run is just under 6 minutes behind wr pace. As a beginner, so much of this run is far out of my reach from tech/tricks/movement. This is easily in the intermediate category.
The tech/tricks are primarily beginner, the movement is more advanced. A secondary purpose of this video was to showcase the importance of movement in getting a good time as opposed to tricks etc.
@BlueBobsCinema That's exactly why I love this tutorial so much. I feel like a lot of Mario 64 runners (myself included) start out with the mindset "Tricks over Movement" when Movement is 10x more important than tricks
If I could go back in time I'd tell myself to learn 50 or 70 star instead of 16 just because I feel like those categories would have made me better at the game
Thank you for your videos. Is there a run where all boxes/helps are opened or a run where no strats or glitches are used to collect every star?
i did aquarium and penguins race insted of ttc 100 and the really hard one in rr
Aquarium in 70? Lmfao
What is that controller input display? I've been seeing it pop up everywhere but still have no idea what it is
Nintendo Spy
ruclips.net/video/ovezpSa8Kcw/видео.html
You can do it with pj64spy and pj64 1.6 add it to skins folder
Then why choosing the option continue&don't save while completing the task.
On the n64 there is lag when the game saves, so it is faster to select continue + no save
at 9:46 what exactly do you call a fast cycle?
He’s comparing to shigeru cycle there
@@cornsyrupp k thanks, shigeru cycle is intermediate cycle right?
Depends on what you call intermediate. It’s the most common cycle you’ll see people go for by a long shot, across every category. Bluebob went for normal cycle in this video (1 cycle behind shig) so it would make sense that if that’s beginner then shig is intermediate. It’s a pretty safe cycle once you’re comfortable with the movement. Most of the top runners still go for shig at least in 120 because the next fastest cycle is unbelievably tight and excruciatingly difficult
Is this actually for beginners?
The strats used in this run are beginner friendly yes. It takes a lot of practice to do them with a high level of precision and speed though
you could have shown top of snowman again now i have to watch another video to understand it :d otherwise good vid
How long do you think it will take to memorize this
The run has not advanced tricks bit the movement requires skill. I think you can get a sub hour In 15 hours of experience.
Thanks to you I could get the 70 stars in 17h :D im bad af
17 hours??!?!? It takes me around 1hour and 20 minutes and I'm not even good in sm64
I'm pretty sure that's slower than a casual playthrough
Is this run still relevant to beginners in 2020?
Mostly yes, I would recommend using the route now where you get the 2nd MIPS star and do HMC before RR. You replace SL reds with the MIPS star in that route.
What is "mashing"?
repeatedly pressing a button
Let me just say I played this game for 1-2 years when I was 10years old then again for a year when I was 20. Now that I’m 30 iv been playing for another year. 70 stars takes me about 1:45 and to be honest my friends and family think I’m SO good. But in reality ... I suck lmao 3 hours for 120 star feel like an accomplishment for myself but seeing some of you guys it’s pitiful
Same my brother thinks I'm the best player alive but I'm like 400th on the leaderboard
My wet dry world has a lot of water in it whyy
The higher you jump into the painting is going to make the water level higher
Hey gamerbob12345612 you probably know who I am.
No tricks he said...
Correct! Movement =/= tricks
What I was searching was a good time with a couple of easy tricks that save a lot of time and a beginner movement. This vídeo is easy tricks BUT it has really advanced movement. I still find the vídeo helpful tho.
@@RodriHermo Glad it could still help, the thing with this game is that tricks really don't save a lot of time. Movement is where you'll save minutes worth of time. So getting a good time without solid movement isn't really possible.
@@BlueBobsCinema Thanks for the answer. I think the best time you can get with beginner movement and a couple of tricks is 1:10 or maybe SUB hour
isnt this more like beginner friendly strats with high level movements, kinda misleading to title it as 'for beginners' . Also this takes a lot of practice, not just a bit of practice like u said in some replies. I know it's too hard to demonstrate beginner strats with beginner movements for pros like u, but at least emphasize at the beginning that youre doing high level movements so people dont get discouraged because they think this is all supposed to be for beginners.
Apologies for the confusion, I could have been more clear. Movement absolutely takes lots of practice, the strats on the other hand would just take a bit.
@@BlueBobsCinema alright all good thanks for taking my criticism ^^
@@BlueBobsCinema a year later i still stand with my opinion but i do really appreciate this video way more now with a 56 pb because i want to see where i can save time from movement.
i definitely felt attacked by this video being called 'for beginners' when i had like a 1:10 back then because i did practice a lot.. maybe i thought if this is beginner then what am i lol
but now i dont really feel that way and i dont know why... now i have a 56:xx with a LOT more hours in and it's still way worse than this 'beginner run' i should feel way more attacked but i just dont lol
Useful video but surely seems more like intermediate level.
The strats are all beginner level, definitely still takes a bit of practice. This video was also partially intended to showcase the importance of movement.
On reflection you are definitely correct and there are more intermediate and pro strats for a lot of the stars. I think maybe it's because these are beginner strats but performed with expert movement and precision, which is why some stars look too difficult to terrible players like me.
Bruh how you not gonna do lakitu skip but do that 100 coin cycle jeezoz
The 100 coin cycle doesn't have any hard strats, but it does take some practice for movement to get there quickly enough. I didn't do lakitu skip just to show that you shouldn't reset over it. Hope this clears things up!
@@BlueBobsCinemaNah youre right and sry I didnt mean for it to come off that dickish lol
I know this is a beginner tutorial 70 stars, but I already know these certain tricks
Not all of them, but some of them
