16:09 Cannonless with this setup has a ton of leeway, where you grab isn't that big of a deal, as long as it's not way too far to the right(1 floor tile over) youll probably get it, you can also get up the ledge and do a small jump with left or right adjustments to relocate
A few notes: -Usamune’s default button for loading a savestate is all 4 c buttons which can be remapped in the “reset” tab in the menu to dpad up -If you can’t reset (i. e. In a race) or you don’t want to reset and you miss cannonless, do wild blue and try again after re-entry -If you’re using usamune, something that can help with cannonless is turning the input display to check if you’re holding straight down -Final note: Awesome tutorial :) Now I have a much better lakitu skip setup. Old one was long jumping and lots of praying lol
I can tell how much thought you put into how to structure the 100c section, this to me is very crucial because a lot of new players will bang their heads against the wall here and give up when they don't break through
@@SeanRaider I know people don't always say when they appreciate stuff but we do, even the more nitpicky people I've talked to appreciate your tutorials :D P.S. if you ever want another pair of eyes to look at something let me know; I'd be happy to help in any way
@@badroenis That's really amazing to hear man, I definitely worry that the top guys kinda hate my guts for acting like I'm qualified, so the confidence boost is appreciated. Also I'll definitely take you up on that sometime
Hey man, I just wanted to say thanks for making this video--it deserves way more views. Mario 64 is a HARD speed game, and there really aren't many good tutorials. Every SM64 tutorial I have ever seen has either been an uncommentated IL with an input display, or a one-take, live-commentated no-reset run. The effort you put into your videos shows, and it goes a long way in making this game more accessible to potential runners.
Thank you dude, that means a lot. I saw the kinds of video resources available to the SMO community and I thought we really needed something similar here. I'm happy to do it!
I used smallant as an inspiration for sure, but I also studied Dutchj's video on SMS a bunch. I think my style ended up being sorta between them, I'm glad it turned out well!
Let me just drop some words for the youtube algorithm. Amazing, insightful, clear, innovative, necessary, helpful, useful, beneficial. thank you for making this video!!!
Thank you! Next part is out within a week. Unfortunately this whole series is gonna take a long time to finish, so I'd recommend learning from the Ukikipedia RTA Guide in the description, then you can watch my vids as they come out to help with the things you were unsure about :)
This is amazing, i literally was able to learn bomb clip from this in about 20-30 minutes. Still a little inconsistent but just need more practice now! Ive only just started this game recently after watching vinny but im already sitting around 1:20! Cant wait for you to complete this series!
After let go of the owl, groundpund immediately to neglect speed as alternative method. With a ground poung and holding neutral, you go straight doen, no matter the speed before.
My complete inability to master the very first thing you do (kick right, long jump and switch camera angle mid-longjump) shows me just how unfit for speed running this game I truly am. Sat here for a half hour working on that one little part(never made it to the bridge) and just can’t move across the controller fast enough for all that. But great video man. Highest quality content here for sure!
Thanks dude! Also a lot of people are exactly like you in that regard, and in that case, feel free to just make up your own strats to start. You can move onto these ones later. The only reason I teach these ones is because teaching anything more basic would be kinda redundant. Don't give up man, even if your first run takes 4 hours, it's totally fine as long as you're slowly improving.
Hey Sean! I remember watching your stream since before you started using that gamecube controller you got from Smash Ultimate. So nice to see you in content creation now. And well, guess I'll have to learn 70 star now!
I’ve looked at a few sources now on how to get the usamune rom specifically for wii virtual console. Unfortunately I’m still quite confused. Any pointers?
VC Usamune is a pretty new thing, I think it was released within the last few months. If you join my discord and DM me or just @ me in general chat, I can see if I can help
I definitely might in the future, but 70 star and 120 star have always been more my thing. I started with 70 star and really haven't done much 16 star.
My biggest regret of this series so far is not showing the easier method. Just to the left of that slope with the red coin, there's another slope that you can just kick up. You should end up near the spinning plank and the whomps. Keep in mind that you need to grab the slope red coin at the start though.
Eh I'm not a huge fan. Bomb clip really isn't that bad, so if you're willing to go beyond casual strats you may as well just learn that. You can do it if you want, I just didn't think it was worth the time to explain.
So I tried to put the usamune this but it didn't work cause the sm64 rom wouldnt let me open it with the patch but it doesn't say patchcmd it says patch. So idk what I'm doing wrong
You can do it however you want technically, but getting the camera to line up properly isn't easy. Just longjump twice and press c right and c down as you're approaching it, should work around the same way.
@@SeanRaider thanks for the reply! My issue is I'm using a GameCube controller and it has diagonal on the c stick so I accidentally keep hitting that while trying to hit one after the other. I'll keep practicing!!
Thanks for watching guys! I'll personally read every comment posted so feel free to ask anything down here.
Dont worry if someone dislikes i will stomp their kneecaps backwards
How’d you get so pretty
Awesome work! The link to the Movement guide in the description takes me to the Getting Started video FYI
@@michaelh1239 Oops! Thanks for telling me

yeah you of all people need this tutorial ??

That input display though. 10/10
Best SM64 guide on RUclips!
You make some seriously quality material, thank you. I think this video will help a lot of people and hope it gets the attention that it deserves
Thanks man, I actually learned how to do cannonless consistently because of this guide
I can tell how much thought you put into how to structure the 100c section, this to me is very crucial because a lot of new players will bang their heads against the wall here and give up when they don't break through
It's really satisfying to have someone notice that lol. I spent more time on that section than the entire rest of whomps.

This is so helpful Sean, can't wait fit the rest if the series. Makes 70 seem less intimidating coming from 16
Thanks for the vid! I don't speedrun, but love watching them and learning how the tech is done.

Fantastic video Sean, god I would've love love loved this had it come out before I learned the route! Seriously so amazing! Keep up the good work!
Good Job Sean!!!! Keep going man, you got me into speedrunning
NICE! A guide like this makes me way less intimidated to try running this game. I think I’ll start practicing before the next guide comes out.
Love it ! Super helpful for anyone looking to start speedrunning
Best SM64 guides ive ever seen. congrats :D
Well done! Liked and subscribed!
This is legit my dude, awesome guide. Gonna help soo many people get into the game.
Perfect thumbnail and title!
Well that’s it. I guess with all this content you’ve been making I have to learn to speed run this damn game. Thanks Sean!

does anyone know what input display this guide uses?
also great guide, its nice and easy to follow
Lets gooooooooooo
dude tysm for these lol
Looking at the input display and what mario is doing, a lot of inputs are left out for 100c; especially so for the first 10 seconds.
a hot video from a hot man

fair enough

do you use a gamecube controller?
Yes sir
@@SeanRaider thank you :) thanks as a whole for all of these guides :)

Is there an easier lakitu skip that doesnt involve 10 inputs in a few seconds?
You can do it however you want technically, but getting the camera to line up properly isn't easy. Just longjump twice and press c right and c down as you're approaching it, should work around the same way.
