- Most of the costumes in Super Mario Odyssey celebrate some of the greatest moments in Mario’s history. But then there are also a bunch of other costumes in Super Mario Odyssey whose inclusion, well, let’s put it that way: If I were Nintendo reminding people about the origin story of those costumes, really wouldn’t be that high up in my list of priorities!
A bunch of the Super Mario Odyssey costumes just have really obscure origin stories, or originated under circumstances that don’t put Nintendo into a very favorable light.
Today we are going to focus on exactly those costumes. We are going to take a detailed look at the origin stories of three costumes that Nintendo probably shouldn’t have put into a mainline Mario game.

For anyone wondering what happened to Ceave, here is a short recap: He had a burnout from making content and is taking a hiatus. Caring about numbers and analytics was getting stressful as well. He is now working in a different field and has quit youtube as a job. That means there will not be a lot of videos. Luckily, he confirmed that when the next mainline mario game comes out ( Mario maker 3, Odyssey 2, etc ), he will probably review/do a challenge on it. For all worrying, there is no need to. He is doing fine and is happier and less stressed in his current field of work.
So, TLDR: He hasn’t quit youtube altogether, but will not upload often.
Edit: to all yall saying im capping, well guess what. Exactly what I said happened. When a new mainline game came out, he came back. Yall gotta stop shutting people down so much
Edit: welp, he has confirmed it all and luckily he is back for the time being. As I stated “when a new mainline game comes put he will probably be back”, and that came to fruition. If you are seeing this after the edit, chances are everything stated previously will still apply and he will probably not be as active in making videos in the future. But for now, lets be happy he is back :)

Soon after publishing this video, Ceave was attacked by Nintendo's ninjas and given a life sentence for pirating multiple 20-year-old video games only released through Japan that nowadays are unplayable by legal means. He was never seen or heard from again.

Or what if something horrible happened? What if the fuzzies took over, I've always assumed Ceave was careful when caring over the fuzzies, but maybe he did something wrong and the fuzzies attacked. To anyone who doesn't follow Ceave on twitter, here is his official response as to why he hasn't been uploading:
No wonder people are still asking about my channel. I left it in a bit of a mess, didn’t I.
What happened is that I got seriously burned out from doing youtube full time for almost six years straight and decided to do something else for a change.
At least for a bit.
For the last months I’ve worked for a local company and developed a 'youtube for companies' course for them, which they sell - for way more than it is worth - to funny german companies with funny german names which try to fix the nuclear fallout that their company youtube page has been so far.
It’s surprisingly freeing not having to worry about viewer retention and average watchtime for a while. With that being said I’m already working on a couple of other projects, because, god - turns out it’s really boring too.
On the side I’m working on a bunch of educational content about how to build a successful youtube channel. This project is going to launch later this year (and will be actually surprisingly cool in my humble opinion) but this stuff isn’t Nintendo related.
The main reason I haven’t communicated anything clear about what I am doing with the channel is. honestly - because I had no freaking clue either. I just realized that I needed a break and decided to go do something else for a while and to see where it would take me.
So with a bit of a distance to the whole channel thingy: I’m pretty sure I am done with doing youtube full time for now. Being a youtuber is this weird job in between two extremes. On the one hand it’s one of the very best jobs you can ever imagine, on the other hand there is this immense pressure to perform (mainly coming from youtube’s algorithms) that over the years really starts to take a toll on you. I’m just no longer willing to pay the price that it takes to really grow a channel.
With that being said, I’ve always really enjoyed making videos, and apparently there are still a bunch of people out there that would like to listen to me plotting elaborate plans on how to avoid deadly coins and there really is no reason not to upload a new video every once in a while. Even if I don’t try to grow the channel anymore.
I’m mainly waiting for Nintendo to drop some news on the next mainline mario game, or a mario maker 3 or something similar, to make a video about it and pack the same info you just read into it.
But yeah, I don’t plan to do youtube fulltime again, however, if the next mainline mario game drops I’ll probably review it and attempt a challenge run or two. And if Mario maker 3 ever happens we’ll most certainly have a bit of fun with it as well.

Nintendo has already made some online exclusive games disappear. I have a friend who had bought some of these games on the Wii. He didn't have enough space to keep them on the hard drive, so he tended to swap them out when he wanted to try something new. The worst part is, he didn't realize that the online service for the console went down and when he went to download one of the games he had, not only was it not available, but all his other games that he had on his system also got removed! I've been a huge fan of Nintendo as the NES was my first console, but this hit me hard when I heard what happened.

This is gonna sound weird but when my dad passed away I binged all your Mario maker videos. Originally I thought if I watched your stuff I wouldn't associate the other channels I normally watched with the sadness I was feeling at the time. But it's funny it kind of did the opposite, and hearing your distinct voice brings me peace. I don't even play video games, in fact the last Nintendo console I owned was the original Wii lol, but still you helped me thru a tough time in my life. For anyone wondering, Ceave is doing fine at another job and he plans to upload a video or two if a new big Mario game is announced eventually. No more constant uploads, but every once in a while he might.

If anyone is wondering where ceave went, phycrow made a reddit post with ceave’s response when he asked where he had been. There’s a link to it on ceaves teitter which is linked on his channels about page. The tldr is that he burnt out on doing RUclips full time and probably won’t be doing RUclips full time again, he is working on a couple non Nintendo related projects that we’ll see eventually, he also said that he’ll probably start posting again when the next mainline Mario game releases and make a video about it that says basically everything that was in the reddit post (and that he might do a challenge run or 2 of said Mario game)

Apparently Ceave responded to his absence on Reddit. He is currently teaching companies how to make successful RUclips channels and is making way more money doing that but with far less stress. He is basically burnt out on making videos. In his own words he is done making videos full time.

FWIW, as a Mexican living in Mexico we love mariachi Mario. This is anecdotal evidence of course, but I haven't encountered anyone who dislikes the costume. I actually wore it for most of the game as well.

This was a great channel, he helped us understand lots and shaped our level designing skills.
He then got angry, so angry that he had enough of it.
He, left. We may never know for sure why. We may never know if he’s coming back.
The last lesson that this channel will teach is this: even if things are dark and cold, even if you may not have a bright future, make a fire. A place where you can feel warm, *fuzzy* and happy. And instead of rambling about your troubles, you should do something so that you are out of this darkness. (I know it’s a bit cheesy but that’s all I got).

This being too long to tweet, I thought I'd drop it into Reddit this time (though I have mentioned it in tweets before, and folks still ask me and in my SMM2 discord, I guess since Ceave had promoted it near its release and folks knew I'd had conversations with him)
The following is a quote directly from Ceave via our latest email exchange, shared with his permission:

No wonder people are still asking about my channel. I left it in a bit of a mess, didn’t I.
What happened is that I got seriously burned out from doing youtube full time for almost six years straight and decided to do something else for a change.
At least for a bit.
For the last months I’ve worked for a local company and developed a 'youtube for companies' course for them, which they sell - for way more than it is worth - to funny german companies with funny german names which try to fix the nuclear fallout that their company youtube page has been so far.
It’s surprisingly freeing not having to worry about viewer retention and average watchtime for a while. With that being said I’m already working on a couple of other projects, because, god - turns out it’s really boring too.
On the side I’m working on a bunch of educational content about how to build a successful youtube channel. This project is going to launch later this year (and will be actually surprisingly cool in my humble opinion) but this stuff isn’t Nintendo related.
The main reason I haven’t communicated anything clear about what I am doing with the channel is. honestly - because I had no freaking clue either. I just realized that I needed a break and decided to go do something else for a while and to see where it would take me.
So with a bit of a distance to the whole channel thingy: I’m pretty sure I am done with doing youtube full time for now. Being a youtuber is this weird job in between two extremes. On the one hand it’s one of the very best jobs you can ever imagine, on the other hand there is this immense pressure to perform (mainly coming from youtube’s algorithms) that over the years really starts to take a toll on you. I’m just no longer willing to pay the price that it takes to really grow a channel.
With that being said, I’ve always really enjoyed making videos, and apparently there are still a bunch of people out there that would like to listen to me plotting elaborate plans on how to avoid deadly coins and there really is no reason not to upload a new video every once in a while. Even if I don’t try to grow the channel anymore.
I’m mainly waiting for Nintendo to drop some news on the next mainline mario game, or a mario maker 3 or something similar, to make a video about it and pack the same info you just read into it.
But yeah, I don’t plan to do youtube fulltime again, however, if the next mainline mario game drops I’ll probably review it and attempt a challenge run or two. And if Mario maker 3 ever happens we’ll most certainly have a bit of fun with it as well.

Funny that you bring up the notch tweet - I thought about that recently. Minecraft is my second most played game besides Mario Maker. Funny how notch made a game that I ended up enjoying so much while he ended up enjoying my videos in return. Weird how those things sometimes go.
I’m definitely done with making videos for money but that doesn’t rule out having a bit of fun on the channel every once in a while.

You have been such a positive presence in my life. It's that weird phenomenon that occurs on the internet sometimes in which a complete stranger feels like a friend. It's an illusion, but it still has real consequences in the life of real people.
You've done well to put your private life before what some strangers on the internet think of you, everyone in this community thinks that and supports you.
But yeah, there are still a bunch of people out there that would like to listen to you plotting on how to avoid deadly coins, and also learning how problems in life can be actually surprisingly simple if approached with the right mood and curiosity :)

Man. This channel got me through a lot of life. I began watching when I was in elementary school years ago. I can’t believe I stumbled on it again. Can’t wait to revisit some of these old memories. Read some comments about what Ceave’s been up to, I hope he’s doing well, even with his decision to quit RUclips. It’s understandable. Again, I hope he’s doing well.

Mario is a fictional character who can be whatever race the creators want him to be in the moment. Of course, the perpetually offended will call that blackface, while complaining about a lack of representation in the same breath. It's almost like a quantum superimposition of these two contradictory states.

That's drastically different from just wearing a sombrero and poncho, lol. Not to mention, painting your face black is blackface .w.
I don't think it was mean spirited, just poor representation that probably wouldn't be well received in the west, and for understandable reasons.
This channel is what got me into technical Mario Maker, and really just Mario Maker as a whole. I'm happy beyond belief that Ceave is doing well for himself, but a small part of me can't help but feel bittersweet about it.

I asked my Mexican friends about it and they didn't think the Mariachi Mario was offensive and I'd have to agree. It doesn't come off as appropriation and even if the game of origin was...erm..problematic, I'd say they pulled it off with grace here. The skeletons were also super adorable.
