Get a harbor freight needle scaler to remove the scales. Makes life easier Ryan..great content 👍
And the air hammer medium barrel. Life changer
"ABSOLUTELY!" Needle Scaler!!! Also, if carefully use at the right angle, air chisel can be a simple way to clean some areas. To bad this guy didn't figure it out before turning his garage into a total dust covered mess!😕 Outside is best, when possible. Also, park dat baby on a large tarp to help make clean-up simpler. Then roll that baby in for final prepping & painting. 👍
Air hammer works better
A grinder with a wire wheel, a die grinder with wire wheel attachments, a needle scaler, and an air hammer would have made this easy. Cmon dude atleast look into things and tools that would make it easier before you start a project
The irony of watching this years ago and now coming back to it because I’m now doing the same thing lol. I miss this content
Finally, I love this series
We like this Because it’s relatable to most of our budget . Not only did you make a world wide viewed truck in your own yard you reaching us on a level we can relate to. No one else doing it with a platform like this. Speaking for us all THANKS DUDE
Loving how fast your putting out videos, hell ya!
Cause he barely does anything.
MANIAAC K ya you know besides pull the entire bed off his pickup and then strip the entire back half of his frame of rust within the week. Lol
As I have been rebuilding my race truck, I’ve found braided wire wheels at harbor freight work AWESOME on rust and paint removal on the roll cage and frame. I use them on my angle grinder. Thank you for sharing your day, be safe!
I will admit I have never done anything like that however I feel like an angle grinder would help with the tough rust
Darin Fitz yea it just sucks when it grabs something real good and slaps your leg
or hiit's a brake line
This series is badass. I wait all day long to watch the vids. Keep up the good work bro
Truck is already lookin good bro!! I have been watching your videos for a while now! It’s good to see an average person using average tools to complete projects.. keep up the great work!
I go an 05 ext cab short bed. So I been watching this for motivation on what to do to mine
Grizz 2 I don’t want a new truck. I think they are ugly. I like my 05. It just needs Bed-liner, frame cleaned up. It runs and drives perfectly fine. Has a little lift and 33s. I’m just looking at small changes that personalize it better than a normal lifted truck. And yes I know I said 33’s because I daily it and pull trailer. Wanted it to be the most practical but taller than stock
Grizz 2 I got 3 inch suspension on 33’s 16 inch rim. I wanna get 35’s on 17-18 inch rim easier to find tires in my home town. Instead of ordering online
Loving this series man, can’t wait to see the finished product !
Love the channel man! Look forward to your videos all week
I'm excited to see this build as a fellow Silverado 5.3 owner love the channel Ryan!!! Welcome back or to the channel yall
I love the Chevy vids and quite frankly I'm loving them even more since I crashed mine just bout a week ago 🥺 I love seeing these video notifications pop up
I’ve yet to see this man wear pants
Agreed!! And I wish he had a pocket knife too. Drives me nuts to see him open everything up with razor blades and random tools.
Agreed lmao
Remember Ryan, gotta get in the inside of the frame rails also.
You can’t get the rust out of the inside in frame rails with out cutting the frame
@@joeyschultz3774 you can if you take the front end off and get a sand blaster.
Not saying it'll be a cake walk but it's do able
Looking good Ryan was so stoked when I seen you posted a new video!!! I’m going crazy waiting to order some of your merchandise!! I give my vote to doing a regular bed if your going show truck route but if you go flatbed personally I think your limiting yourself to what you can do. I’m sure no matter what you do it will be awesome!! Keep up the good work!!! Please get that merch ready to order!!!
Everytime I'm in Broadview, I look for ya. I'm just a local subscriber that's seen you in this area a few times. Wallings/Broadview area.
Cant wait to see the end results of this Chevy
Good idea on waiting for the oil pan gasket for the lift. You have to drop the diff out of the way anyway. Also, I recommend the felpro gasket the quality is amazingly better than the original GM. Also while your in there don’t forget to change the oil pickup tube seal. Nice work keep it up!
the truck gonna look so cool when you done man keep up the work!
Watching your videos makes me want to do outdoor chevy build.
I got the 2009 Chevy Silverado extended cab.
When you do the oil pan gasket MAKE SURE you do the pickup tube o ring. Common problem on 5.3s they shrivel up and cause oil pressure to be low and fluctuate. Its fairly simple. Remove the front diff and remove the steering rack bolts to drop it down then you can remove the pan.
Keep up the great work Ryan love watching your channel... I'll be doing all of this on my 2004 Silverado ext cab as well..... keep up the great work
Hey I would like to say I love what you are doing with this build
Nothing like a little percussion therapy😉😉
I would look around the fuel tank real good as that's where the frame cracks due to rust. with the bed off check out brake and fuel lines too. just a suggestion. i have worked on a lot of these trucks thru the years. keep up the good work!
Work at a Toyota dealership that the tundras have frame recalls and to see if it gets a new frame we use a needle scaler to get the hard rust off and it works great! Would definitely recommend getting one to get your hard to reach places and the hard rust spots! They truly do work amazing. Definitely worth the money
Ryan, go get yourself a pneumatic air "needle scaler" they work incredible for exactly what you are dealing with. The hard rust scales and paint flakes.
Using an air chisel with a rubber band securing the shaft to make it bouncy would make hammering so much easier and take less time. How you do it is take a good thick rubber band that’s at least an half an inch thick around the shaft using the cows hitch or looping it around and through the hole is the best way to attach it (that’s the best way I can explain it) and have it go on top of the gun and onto the back of the handle. That’s the best way to get the flaky shit off easily and less time consuming. I learned this through a guy who ran a small channel and I can’t remember the name but he was so helpful. I will edit this comment when I can find him to give him credit for the idea because I know I would’ve never had thought of that trick.
A lot of hard work man! This will pay off big!
The constant video uploads are awesome
You need a needler my friend. Around 100 bucks at lowes
Even cheaper at harbor freight
I’ve learned from owning 2 Chevrolet trucks, any time you have to replace something always gets AC Delco parts when available. They always seem to last longer and you don’t have any bugs/problems out of the parts. I had a 2000 Chevy truck and now have a 2005 extended cab truck
Edit
It will be easier to replace the gas tank straps, I had to replace them on my 05 and they were like $20 for both straps and just use a piece of wood and jack the gas tank up and the straps are easy to change.
Take the cab off remove engine and sand blast it for a “show quality build”
You and Demolition Ranch making renovating videos constant.. Making me want to fix up my Dodge Dakota lol
You looked like you had some fun beating the crap out of that truck. Can't wait till it's done
Loving this series, also good series for teens looking to upgrade cheaper trucks
Love watching your videos .
Next time you run into rust there’s a thing we use on our towboats called chemprime during painting season. We put it in spray bottles and it takes the rust right off with a rag. Makes it way easier (surface rust, won’t really work on rusted through spots lol)
Love the new Intro Ryan ! 💯🤟🏻
you got me wanting that for the paint removal on the square
😏😏😏
Getting it done son! 💪🏽
Great video. Keep going man
a flatbed with skirts would be pretty cool
Keep doing your best bro!
I been waiting for this episode.
Flatbed! And it'll be a good videos to make for people thinking of doing a flatbed also
Keep the bed. I want to see the bedside repair! I have to tackle that on my ‘08 Sierra SLT soon!
This man seriously needs a pocket knife for opening boxes 😂
John Reaves all the RUclipsrs use a razor blade, I don’t get it. Get a knife already
good work bro!
To get that gas tank strap to fit
On the other side of it up in the channel area it is bolted to the frame
15mm iirc.
Take the bolt out then hook the strap in place and then put the bolt back in
Obviously support the tank while doing this.
I love the flat bed design but what if you went old school and had a hardwood bed? Couple of 2x6's or 2x8's stained real deep dark to match the feel of the truck. No metal needed except maybe the edges or the mounting hardware. If you wanted sides you could even through some low profile fades on it.
One thing I forgot about was the hitch I’d cut the one on there off and start over with that!! Oh well ill shut up now and let the master work his magic!! Get em brother!!!
I’m 14 years old and bought a 2003 Tacoma 3.4 litre 5 sped manual. What are some relatively cheap mods that will make a durastic difference in power and looks. Looking best bang for my buck. Keep up the good videos!!
you need a needler for that hard to come off stuff and hard to reach areas ... love this project.. make sure you check the shock mounts and make sure they are solid I just put shocks on my father in laws truck and shock mount ripped off and it was a pain in the ass to weld with out pulling the bed ... I did my Dakota frame in the fall
Great vid man
The under coating works good down here in the south got a truck with 340,000 miles never been painted and no rust and I got a 1984 and it is the same way
Ryan: *Talks wearing a respirator*
Me: Dr. Evil?
After you finish the chevy you should do more restorations
Would you ever like to get lime green storage racks for the garage on the window side? Definitely would look cool!!
Hey what's up! I highly recommend that you get that frame sandblasted, the rust is like a cancer to the metal and if you blasted it and is a solution to further prevent the rust you will not have to worry about that rust issue for a few more years. Just ensure that the solution is not oil based.
Ryan I would recommend doing the fuel pump while you have the bed off as one of the few remaining cat eye owners with their original and less than 70,000 on my three year daily driver, I’m not looking forward to it. Also yes I scored and found one with 28,500.
I would try some kind of spray on rust dissolver to help with the process to get to spots you can't reach very well.
Well dang, now I'm considering doing that to my truck
Good tip for ya weld caps on the cross members to close them
Green flat bed lifted Chevy 🤔🤔 actually an amazing idea.
Needing to go to bed but seen this notification and just had to watch.
Go by harbor freight and pick up a needle gun. And it will make your life so much easier! We use them to descale rust on our boats offshore
Best way to do the tank strap is, support the tank... unbolt from the opposite side... hook the tab then bolt it back up.. is still a bit tough.. replaced both of mine.. that’s the easiest way I found.. good luck man.
REVMOVE THE GAS TANK GET BEHIND IT!!!
Just got done with this project a couple months ago. Buy a needle gun from harbor freight ($30) and it will really help with removing the scale.
CM flatbed with stances out wheels would look badass!!
Thanks for that man
7:46 That frame you are knocking on is hollow or solid or hollow in spots? If it's hollow how thick is the actual steel?
Chevy life
Man, you should do that outside in bright light. That entire garage and everything in it will be covered in dust.
Lovin the new intro
replacing the fuel pump is pretty simple you just have to knock the lock ring loose and disconnect the wires and it pulls out nice and easy those trucks are notorious for fuel pumps going bad had it happen on mine not to long ago. they also recommend changing the fuel filter while youre at it.
Sound like Ferris Bueller with that respirator on 😂
So what is all going to be happening on the silverado are you going with a lift big tires or are you just restoring it as a daily?
Yea I have to get to mine next summer
Bed removal and fuel tank and get to my frame . Illinois is hard on all vehicles.
Talking through that mask all I could think of was that you sounded like Bane from The Dark Knight Rises. LOL. Good job on the frame.
Habor freight has a sand blaster for cheap that i got and it works great, for all the little spots you can’t get with the grinder you can shoot sand in those spots and it works great, id try to take it somewhere where it wont matter to get messy cause the sand gets everywhere
Presoak that fuel pump bro with some pb blaster or some type of freeing lubricant it’ll help I did a Chevy pump the other day hammer the lock ring off if breaks use that to advantage to help hammer it off make sure to buy a spare lock ring and fuel hoses or just some spare rubber hose for evap lines
love the vids
Keep the bed .02. If you plan on painting in lime green definitely keep the bed. Great videos.
Would absolutely love a flatbed build
So I’m I correct in waiting for your website to open to be the fastest way to get your Lifted co merchandise. Love the new beanie hat!!!!keep rocking it bro!!!
Honestly once your done with this truck. You should do a give away with it along with you LFTD company. You would sell so much murch from it. Just an idea
A needle gun would make that so much easier!
I hope you got some flowmaster on it would sound so good on that truck .
I really hope you film replacing the cab corners and rockers I'll be tackling my corners and outer rockers soon
I didn't know you had a chevy like this im actually working on a 59 chevy stepside apache
Air hammer with a chisel does great work of that caked on rust
When I did my tank straps I had to put that side in first and then put the bolt side in but it took a jack to lift the tank up far enough to get the bolts to thread in
Do a 6” lift, 22x12 black arkon Lincoln wheels and 35” fury’s
Hey Ryan next time you do a rust removal put a tarp under the truck and take off the rust and when all the rust is on the tarp you can throw it away or dump it in the garbage
Ryan, loosen nut on opposite side of tank strap, put the strap back into the bracket where it popped out and then tighten nut back up on the
Yea for sure you would have to get front differential out of way or just lower it brought to take oil pan off for the oil pan gasket replacement need silicone for the 2 top mating surface so it doesn’t leak where the front cover and engine bolt together
How would you recommend fixing rust holes in the truck bed where the part that covers the wheels.
It's near the wall of the truck bed
It's a 98 dodge ram 1500 ext cab short bed
