I know you're doing everything you can to do this right, and you may have a specific reason for it, but why stop there with the frame resto? Why not go all the way back? Button up the whole thing, delete all the seams, fill any unused holes, then paint the whole thing? I'm not intending to sound rude about it, I'm legit wondering, because based on some of your other videos, I fully believe you'll end up doing exactly what I'm asking about in the future.
No no you’re totally cool. I figured people would ask. I’m really just trying to get this car together as quickly as I’m able to. I wanted to Pull the body and do that but that would make it a frame off which would be another few months of work. Here I can now bolt the front suspension on and get the motor back in and get it driving again. I have to find a place to stop because I’m about to do a frame off on my truck. So I’d rather make this nice where you can see it and focus on the rest later. My truck is becoming more of a priority every day so the car needs to get done. I will in the future go back and pull the body off the galaxie but as of now it’s important as a college student that I get the car driving so I can focus on other projects. Great question man
College student! Lol! I totally understand. I'm reallllly looking forward to the f100 build. You know I have one myself n I need you to teach me everything you know so I can do something with my channel! Wait, is that plagiarism?! I have one video up when I first got it running, timing was completely off, plug wires wrong too! It's running a lot smoother now, I'm having to use it as my primary driver for my 56 mile commute to work. Whenever I get the chance to park it again, I'm going to fix the timing issue, the radiator leak and the oil leak, but as for now, I just stop n fill it up with oil n check the gas! I'm rambling, go study bro! Or turn wrenches with the camera on!
Thanks again man. Good story!
Lmao! "Gud story". Shoot, I was just rambling, but you're welcome. I hope all my jabbering helps the algorithm for ya!
👌😎
I like seeing young men putting such a great effort into their cars, you are doing a great job. You will have something to be proud of when you get to my age and say to yourself I did the very best I could. Keep going.
Thanks a ton!
Glad to see it coming together like this, looks great already can’t wait till it’s done
This is probably the dozenth time I've watched this video because it's just so satisfying seeing the frame go from bare to beauty. I'll definitely be using this on my GMC's frame, planning for next spring once this Michigan snow season is over with to start getting a fully restored rolling chassis. I'm super stoked to see where the Galaxy project goes, it's definitely one of those cars where the body lines just make you fall in love with it.
I have had bad luck with POR 15 over clean metal. Its called POR " paint over rust" for a reason. It really needs rust to cover to bite into. It work well for what its designed for. Encapsulate rust and prevent it from getting worse. IMO, its not so good for clean metal. You got your frame so nice I would of primed and painted it. To use POR 15, i just clean and degrease frame, knock loose stuff off with wire brush or wheel, degrease again and paint. Turns out great. You went above and beyond and did a great job cleaning and prepping. It would of taken a nice paint job and lasted for a long time.
POR15 can be used over bare metal, when prepped properly. It's the metal prep process before that is crucial for adhesion. Rust on a car or truck frame tends to be spotty/not consistent in coverage. And in most cases, wire brushing the loose rust off leaves exposed bare metal. Complete media blasted frames are POR15 coated all the time.
POR-15 is awesome. It also adheres to rust and the metal will no longer continue the rust process. Like you mentioned, it does need to be painted y you have the metal exposed to the sun. It does work better when it is humid too. Thank you.
Awesome job. Doing that to my 87 Suburban diesel 4x4 soon!
That's a good job I did my 64 with rustoleum took my body off frame lot of work
I did my 89 frame with ace “rust stop” and it turned out really nice
Great content very satisfying to watch keep up the good work
Man that does look amazing you do great work
I used POR-15 on the inside of my 66 Impala wheel wells. I found out that if you get it on your skin, you'll have to wear it off if it dries. For a firewall and frame, I like satin black better than the super high gloss. Your frame turned out nice. I really like that car!
Turned out sweet. Another great video 👍👍
This was so satisfying to watch how well that paint lays down. It literally looks like you sprayed it. I'm in the process of painting my frame. It's very temporary. Just to keep it from rusting anymore with it being salt season in Kentucky. Eventually I wanna take the whole body off and do it right but right now I don't have time or money so I'm cleaned it best I could with wire brush and old enamel anti rust spray paint I've had forever. 😂
That's some nice work. Your galaxie will be amazing when its done.
Great video that frame looks amazing now
"We have rust in california"
*Laughs in canadian*
My whole floor and firewall are painted with this product and I love it! looks like we are actually getting something done lol! I recommend putting a sheet metal screw into the lid of the can next time and just unscrewing it when you need to fill the cup, This is good to save money because POR ain't cheap! Love the galaxy vids man, keep it up!
Thanks! Didn’t think about the screw. Good idea
How did the firewall holding up with this product ?? Still clean looking ?? Is it easy to wipe clean ??
the moment I saw him put the lid back on that POR15 I knew... he had never used it before!
From ever video I have seen, you are correct about not getting the lid back off. Pry up with everything in you toolbox & garage, then end up using “Vise Grips” and destroy the can.
Retired ASE Tech
Just lay some plastic bag over can then put lid back on, lid will come off when needed again
That sounds like the best idea yet. Cut a zip lock because it’s thicker than plastic wrap for food.
The way I understand POR-15, it hardens with moisture in the air. So if lid is open, before stirring, clean lid seal cavity with paper towel and flat blade screwdriver. Then with 1/2” masking tape, cover the cavity to keep clean. Many use two inch tape to create a “V” on can to pour from. Then remove tape and seal. I don’t know why, but I alway use a 12” 2 X 4 wood block to tap lid back on as not to crush it. But use the heavy plastic first.
Inside frame sealer on the cheap? My grandad took 2 toilet wax seals and melted with with boiled linseed oil. He wiped his saws & other to keep from rusting. I have a metal bottle with screw-on spray gun. It used a disconnect like air hose, but tiny and has 5 different hoses / tips. HF May sell a similar tool but thin if needed with cap of mineral spirits. Bowl seals aren't bee’s was but petroleum based. It thinks it just as well as it hardens at room temp and stays at higher temp. But after all, the video is $100 dollars? So done cheap!
Have a good day!
I used that on the floor pan of my mustang. Works great!
That turned out slick. wow nice.
LOOKING GOOD!
Looks amazing
Great video. Enjoyed it lots.
That is awesome... nice job
Keep up the good work!.
SHEEESH looking so good craig!! Whens the motor coming in my guy ?
It won't stay glossy. My buddy did this to the pan in his VW and it looked like black primer after awhile. It's designed to be painted over.
nice job man, i like it.
First
Edit: I really enjoy your videos Craig without them I really wouldn’t be inspired to do anything to my truck, keep doin what you doin man 🤙
Looking good👌
Looks so much better than I expected. I almost face palmed a bit when I saw the brush since you cleaned the frame up so nicely but it turned out good. Have you considered doing the rest of the frame too?
Cool video. Killer product. Labor intensive but the results are awesome 👍💯
Amazing video!
I'm going to have to put this stuff on my Scout!
Looking good , can't wait till you have it done and taking it to shows and cursing 👍👍
Nice job!
Heeeyyy!!! 👍 Great job Craig!
Thank you!
@@Thecraig909 you're welcome Craig! I'm impressed at your work ethic and attention to detail. You should be very proud of yourself and everything that you accomplish.
Thank you for making this video and others. It's helped me really learn a lot on which direction to go with my truck. I'm really close to finishing the floor pans in my 1967 F100. Next I'm pulling out the engine and removing the bed this month. My goal right now is to knock off the rust from the frame, paint with POR15, and clean the engine bay up by the end of the year. What did you put on before you painted and did it come with your POR15?
She’s looking great!!
Thanks Luke!
@@Thecraig909 And you were worried!
I HAD FAITH ON YOU ALL ALONG!
can't wait to see it finished then we could have a race against your truck!
Kevin here with HTXF100s. I'm jumping ahead before finishing the video but just in case you aren't aware....don't let that POR15 be in direct sunlight too long if any at all. It will break down and start to look like poop. I am actually doing my frame right now to put in my fuel system and brake lines. I'm using the Rustoleum Rust Barrier stuff and I have to say I'm pretty impressed by it. Just my experience after having the POR15 fail on me. Don't get me wrong, POR15 looks great and if I had the time before to do the entire truck with it correctly then I probably would've been fine. Keep it up and watch out for those UV rays on the frame!
I love how the POR15 self levels and finished look gives that glassy appearance.
Eastwood After Blast great to use on bare steel. It has phosphoric acid and a bit of zinc to help keep it from flash rusting. It’s fantastic.
Bubble Icious what product is that
looks nice, Wish i would have taken more time on my project car.
Striped the body and everything off my 68 f-100 and had it powder coated. It is cheap where I live. The hardest part was getting the frame there.
Wow! Glossy! Will the fire wall be painted the same?
Good job on the frame!!! It was done correctly. Gonna last forever now. 40 yrs experience here . It's alot better doing it right the first time. All new parts going in is gonna be a real eye catcher.
As someone with 40 years experience do you recommend POR15? Any other products? Ive heard a lot of people with alleged restoration experience say that it is absolute crap and doesnt last...just peels off after a year or two even if prepped properly. They say it cures too hard and brittle and cant flex or expand with the metal of the frame. Any thoughts on that?
@@foskco87 what I use and seems to work fore is implement paint from tractor supply. Right or wrong it works and lasts for me. Prep is key. It's real tuff paint and sticks. Also it's oil base self leveling
How'd this hold up? I saw a lot of bad reviews that any sort of dirt or rust that gets sealed with this just exacerbates the rust issues?
Used it on my 88 cougar, it's crazy strong once it's done. Definitely recommend it.
Hey , what size can of the rust stop did you end up using? About to do this to my Hilux!
Not really supposed to lay por15 on clean metal, but it looks good. I would have used rustoleum tractor and implement paint uncut from any thinners…that stuff is tough!
I think this is great im a 16 year old kid about to do the same to my 65 ford f250 thx for teaching me
hi. what were the tools you used to clean it. specifically what was on the dewalt grinder. thanks
I don’t know how true it is but I’ve heard penetrating oils will penetrate deeply into the steel and stop the bond of your paint
Looks fucking good i thought i was going add with my frame motivated me to finish mine up but my luck everytime too it wants to rain
What kind of wheel did you use on the grinder was it a flap wheel if so what grit
I love how west coast guys think they have so much rust lol
I love how yall think yall are cool for having a peice of shit rusty truck
Weird flex but okay
😂🤣
@@Jake-vc1jd we dont think we are cool, we just laugh at people who dont live in the rust belt and think they have rust
Buy a spot sand blaster and silica sand. Way faster and better results. Little blasters are cheap and useful.
Hey would you by chance be able to do a video on the best chemical to strip old paint/bondo off a car? Every video I see it says to use aircraft paint stripper but where I am located it is no longer available thank you in advance and hope you have a great day.
Have you ever used chassis saver before by any chance?
It looks brand new.
The welding spatter was messin wit my ocd
I need to do this to my 75 F150 frame which is covered in surface rust. What wheel would you recommend for that?
Just a wire wheel cup on a grinder & a angle die grinder to get into some smaller spots
If im not mistaken, por stands for paint over rust and i thought you needed a rougher surface for the paint to stick to the frame. If thats not the case thats cool because i saw a guy that did this with his f100 frame and he had pictures of the paint flaking off after a short time
Edit: now that i heard you say that its not uv protected, that may have been the case. Anyways sorry for ranting. Love the builds
All good man. Thank you 👍🏼
I used por on my 67 f100 frame but I'd advice u to use gloves stuffs hard to remove ....I should have put another coat of another paint over it cause it started to fade bad
Looks really good!! Good informative video. Thank you.
What grit flap disc did you use?
What wheel did you use to clean it up
Invest in a dustless blaster will make everything so much faster
Suweeet!
Yes, the whole frame, but being busy in my garage, I did not catch the kind of car. A subframe would make this job easier if the floors are good. Unfortunately even with all of the correct steps some like it and others will never use it again. Too bad it’s not catalyzed to make it more like an Epoxy! Time will tell because of where it’s located and I think you are not going rock climbing in Moab, UT.! lol... ASE Master Tech since 1978 - Retired
How's it holding up so far?
How does the frame look like over 4yrs later? If you still have the truck of course.
I bet your wishing you put on rubber gloves right about now huh?😉 Good product! Looks good!
Why was it so much dirty under the shiny metal? It gets dirty that bad after using chassis saver?
wow craig very very cool i'm a lil wondering why u & cus there didn't jack the rest of the body up a bit & get more of the frame... U KNOW UNDER THE BODY MORE .... even if u jacked up the front half & tilted it back so u have room to get in there & do all the lil step's u did & then do the back half by tilting it a bit 4 ward enough so u could get in there w/ all that u r putting... EVEN ON A SMALL BUDGET THAT U-TUBE BY NOW HAS TO BE PAYING U...... & & GET IT ALL DONE ON THE FRAME...... u r doing awesome job buddy..... keep going !!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you do and update video. Anything bad with the POR-15.
how good is this por 15 stuff??
Can you leave it without a top coat?
👍
Getting the bed off is my question how’d you donit
Why would you not do the entire frame all and once?
i picked up some matting & resin to try to teach my self how to bacicly start to do some small fiberglassing on my rear wheel well's of my '04 Silverado truck here in ohio.... i saw the ( por-15 lil pint's they had & saw the prices ALL DEPENDING ON DIFFERANT STORES TOO NO MATTER WHERE U LIVE IN U.S.A. ) i've seen it as low as 22 buck's clear up to 70 odd bucks a lil pint..................lol PRICE SHOW EVERY ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That POR15 must be "self leveling" does it state that on the can...
What about the firewall?
Anyone know the name of the song at 3:00? I love it and wanna listen to it fully
They bayou by Tigerblood
What about the rest of the frame? Why only do one third of it?
you might want to check into a product called Body cavity wax
Oh yea and that can u have to properly seal it cause it will harden and u wont ve able to use it again I buy the small pints
You should have just bought a harbor freight sandblaster! Hell of a lot easier and faster and you can use it again.
Screw POR 15! Go RUST BULLET for the win!! It’s totally UV acceptable and requires much less prep.
Makes me wanna work on one of our 3
63 novas
Looks good but would have definitely done the entire frame at the same time.....
What's the product brand
Yeah the galaxies cool and all but I want to see F100 content lol
James Workman I wanna see some f100 stuff too! I miss it!
POR 15 with no gloves? your fingers will be black for a long time :) looks good tho! Did the same with my '57 Chevy frame.
How much of that can did you use for what you showed us? Excellent video! I'm about to do an entire K5 frame. I'm using Eastwood Rust Encapsilator Plus after I strip and sand mine too.
RL RL I’m getting ready to do a K5 too
No gloves yikes I got it on my hands and it does not come off for weeks I’m doing my dodge w250 truck frame next good stuff if you do it right
make sure you clean the paint can lid and groove on the can of all Por 15 or you will have a very hard time getting the lid off again .............sticks like weld
I wonder how much it bugs craig that the rest of the frame doesnt match now.
Ethan Ross yuuuuup! He gon do the rest one day, is nearly bet on it!
I cover my paint project w/plastic when I’m not working on it
