But in the end, Ivar turned out to be the most capable leader on the battlefield.

Now see yourself as a viking, a person that values revenge and glory above all else and now answer that. Ivar is a good commander, because he can *COMMAND* an army from afar. The only thing Bjorn did was fight and follow Ivars command, and after they caught king Ecbert Bjorn asked Ivar WHAT TO DO , it was always Ivars strategy that got them winning, once the army saw this he became the sole commander, leaving his older brothers out
And how is that suppose to support your statement about Bjorn asking Ivar what to do? Bjorn avenged his father and went to Meditarrenean, he planned that when Ragnar lived, he left England so Ivar took leadership. That is all. Bjorn never asked Ivar about anything, period.

When bjorn left, the only thing Ivar did was take over York. When Ivar left his brothers Ubbe and Hvitserk out, he went to war against Ubbe. That was what broke Ragnars legacy apart. So, even though Ivar was a great commander, he lacked Ragnars leadership and will to explore, traits that were taken up by bjorn and ubbe

The woman who killed his mother just because his wounded ego wouldnt let him see that Ivar was a better commander as everyone else acknowledged. Well, Tywin is objectively the character among those who lived in the books and show timeline, who sat at the top of the power food chain the longest. Even his death is primarily because of an emotional lap from his eldest son. So yeah, he does seem like a pretty good example to take advice by. And there is a difference between showing who is king and saying you are the king.

This change in Bjorn’s character made no sense. He was always more serious and composed. I think the writers made this to establish that Bjorn was only muscle and Ivar was the clever one.

In reality a Thing/Moot would be called to elect a new Earl (or King) of Kattegat and to also elect a leader for the Great Heathen army, Gifts/bribes would be given by all potential candidates to the influencial and powerful landowners and the elected leader might not even be a relative of Ragnar's as the concept of heredical was only really a thing with the Franks at this point, long story short Halfdan Ragnarson (Hvitserk in the show) was elected leader of the Army and Bjorn wasn't even present

I wonder how long we'll have to wait until Ivar finally assumes control & command over the army from Bjorn & truly becomes Ivar The Boneless?
