Are all examples of this actors talent. He somehow makes every scene feel real. From the tears to getter choked up before crying. They are done amazingly well. How anyone can display such real emotion in a scripted moment. Is just crazy. I wish we could have had at least one more season with Ragnar. But when you are doing a show based around historical events. It pretty much limits the options of the show makers. Either way Vikings is a good show but I don’t know if it would have been as good as it was without this actors portrayal of the Ragnar character.
Ragnar is simply brilliant because he knew this would happen: that they would fail taking the city. So he gave his Earls and Floki the freedom to devise the strategies and battle plans (earlier episode, he set them up to fail). So he gave them their say and followed their ideas and they failed, now he has total control because everything up until now wasn't possible without Ragnar and they know it. (I really feel that Ragnar is smarter than he pretends to be especially with political manoeuvring he's always watching and anticipating, love it!)

Best thing about Ragnar is his patience and brilliant ideas ( even though I have read Bjorn is actually the one that acted out this particular plan in real life).
