Listened from start to finish, crazy how such a brave bunch of lads can get criticised by people who have never fought, thank you for your service Brian you are a inspiration.
I did my basic training for paras in catterick and his son was in my platoon, the corporals would ask him to get his dad to sign their books, so they got them signed and they signed it themselves and sent them back to his dad.
Hi Jocko. Please also interview Marine A. Otherwise known as Sergeant Alex Blackman. A Royal Marine who was convicted, and I believe wrongfully imprisoned. Many of us fought and supported to have him released due to the spike in front of the sword, his wife Claire. An amazing, tenacious, unswervingly loyal wife. He was eventually released from prison in 2016. I would love to have you interview him too! And to Brian Wood, there are many of us who appreciate your service, valour and bravery. Many thanks Sir. You deserve the recognition you get.

Hi jocko, It was a great podcast first and foremost. Much respect to you and brian Wood. Please could you interview Craig harrison next. He's a british sniper who did hold the record for the longest kill. He has a book called the longest kill, the bloke is a legend and amazing human being.
Stories like this man's are what make me proud to be British and ex army. guys following each other into almost certain death like they were actual brothers, and they go willingly with a bit of British banter on the way. 😂 it builds a brotherhood stronger than anything and the best bit is the good Times you have and the experiences are crazy, if you are struggling to decide a career and you are just leaving school I couldn't reccomend the army anymore, you could do almost anything you want if you work hard enough, and the equipment you will get to use . I was 17 and in charge of all the heavy weapons like mortars,Milan,laws,g.p.m.gs and l.s.ws that's millions of pounds worth of equipment and enough to start a small war, where would you get that amount of responsibility at that age in civilian life. 💙🏴💪🇺🇸👊👊👊
Good evening Jocko from Australia. Absolutely very much enjoy your podcast and books. This was an amazing story and shootout to Brian Wood. Chocked up several times during this. Thank you all for your service
I had the privilege to meet that Warrior driver Johnson Beharry V.C. while deployed to England last year. Amazing acts of bravery by everyone involved. Would love to see him on the show. Pro Patria
It sounds like my dad’s story. A marine in Vietnam who was used as a lure to see what they were dealing with. Ninth regiment. AKA. The walking dead. Out numbered 10 to 1. They ran into a whole regiment of North Vietnamese. Got cut to shreds.
I never knew Brian was in Johnson Beharry's warrior during his VC action! When he mentioned Cimic House, it rang a bell because I've read the book Sniper One by Dan Mills (another fantastic book), who was in Brian's Regiment.
yeah i had the same thing click with me when he mentioned comic house and the guy getting killed by the barrier at the gate falling on his head and killing him.

Very sadly I witnessed the passing of Pte Lee O'Callaghan at the Old State Buildings in Basra, IRAQ. His callsign had come into our camp after being involved in a contact. As a section 2IC I was pushing my fire team out to engage the Militia that were surrounding our camp. As I was running out, Pte Lee O' Callaghan's Warrior pulled up next to me, a member of his fire team came out screaming for medical attention. I remember running over to him to see if I could help, and realising I couldn't. It was an image that burnt itself into my mind forever. I have felt guilt ever since for not being able to do more. I remember having to compose myself and be that point of Leadership for my fire-team as we pushed out onto the ground. But the reality of that particular incident couldn't have been made anymore real! I have never shared this detail with anyone. Not even my Wife. Brain thank you for your service, I am really sorry our crazy government put you through what they did or even allowed it , maybe it happened for a reason, your case may have saved others from this bunch of money chasing lawyer scumbags , the next person might not have been as strong as you, we are extremely proud of our armed services and your exemplary example of that . ❤
Even at 10 years old, I knew the implications of 911 would be horrible for our country, although I'm sad about that time and the preceding years, I'm glad to be alive at the time
I was an Ex-Squaddie myself (Royal Artillery Signals Sergeant) I work now as a Contract Network Engineer. I got a contract back in 2015/16 to do some work on Bulford Camp where the iHAT (Iraq Historic Allegation Team) I am an Afghan Vet. I didn't do Iraq although I was in at the time I had a fair few mates that where. I remember getting fifty questions by a bunch of Ex-Met CID and Ex-RMP's while they hid all the maps and picture of people etc.. in case I told my mates. All of them on disgustingly high day rates. It made me sick they where boosting to me about there day rates. I couldn't believe these guys where happy to f~#k there own over for a few quid made me sick! So I kept my mouth shut and got out of there. (For those in the UK guess who had the IT contract Fujitsu Defence UK)
Jocko, if and its a pretty big if your could somehow get Willie Apiata VC onto your show it would be the best chat i/anyone could ever hope for. Just unsure on how much he would be willing to say since he was a member of the NZSAS
Jocko many of us think any lack of knowledge you would have is still overall better than others running for President. What price would be enough for you to run? We don’t want more preventable soldiers deaths, you could help. Would you ever run?
Regular British infantry are kinda trained in everything "special". It stands to reason, if door knockers know how CQB, or FISH works, why not train everyone?
Being at this battle ill put some context to it and tell you exactly what happened. How do i know this?. Because what Wood fails to mention anywhere is that it wasnt him that led that attack it was in fact me. Little do you know he was ordered out of his vehicle by his commander but not to assault enemy positions but to take cover as his warrior was hit by multiple rockets and was temporarily immobilised. When i arrived onto his position 40 minutes later and 200m away from the enemy he was sat with 2 others in a ditch with his back to the enemy. I took command and made the decision to assault after careful consideration of the battlefield scenario and the 5 of us went foward. His 3 me and a guy i brought over. There was very little incoming fire as we approached in dead ground and i was the only one with a bayonet fixed. He shouted across to everybody "we will get f**king medals for this". Once it was over and we were back to camp we had to provide statements to the military police and he put in his the truth that i came over and took command but when he got back to his room and spoke to his boss he realised that it doesnt look good on him and his medal will pass him by so he went back to the police and changed his statement by embellishing his involvement obviously these were confidential and i only found out in 2015 during the inquiry although i did find it strange he got an award in 2005 for participation and not leading. I got to read his citation during the inquiry and it should be filled under fiction in story telling circles.
4:01:25 I thought for a minute there that Willink was going to say something to the effect of "The country [Britain] that has been our strongest ally, in spite of trying to keep us from existing."
Depleted Uranium anyone…things I got so mad as a med provider for Service Members with these types of exposures. U all got hit by an armor piercing round through the side of your armored vehicle. Everyone should be tagged as having likely been exposed to high risk shrapnel and everyone in the vehicle had a minimum of multiple sub-concussive exposures, over years of service adding up to cumulative effects towards TBI as well as higher risk for developing CTE symptoms even IF there was never a specific diagnosis of TBI. Anyone who had experiences should review that history with a medical provider and watch for long term effects.
A Civilian oncologist could overlook a diagnosis if this history and these exposures aren’t documented and that oncologist might take longer to reach a diagnosis without this information. So so important but like most Soldiers I treated were so glad to still be here while so guilty for not dying instead of your brothers and sisters.
