What Happened to Young Guns 2?

- One of the hardest things to do in Hollywood is to make a highly anticipated movie sequel that lives up to the original, much less surpasses it. But if you had a loaded six-shooter pressed to your temple and had to answer as quickly and honestly as possible, what would you say the all-time best movie Western sequel happens to be? Sergio Leone’s Dollars trilogy certainly comes to mind as the most sterling example. Yet, in terms of a Western that uses historical events to tell a compelling biographical tale, it’s hard to eclipse the blistering entertainment value of Young Guns II - a movie that continues the saga of William H. Bonney, aka, Billy the Kid, and his gunslinging compatriots, The Regulators, following their valiant efforts fighting in the Lincoln County War. Released two years after the original, Young Guns II became nearly as successful as the original in terms of box office sales and critical reception.
While some creative liberties were taken to increase the dramatic effect of the story, like its popular predecessor, Young Guns II largely stuck to historical facts regarding The Regulators’ role in avenging John Tunstall and defeating notorious lawman Pat Garrett. Now that we’ve already gotten to the bottom of Young Guns’ production history, we’re back by popular demand to do the same for the scintillating sequel. Regulators, mount up…it’s time to get this party started and figure out What Happened to Young Guns II!

The entire Blaze of Glory album is pure gold.
Agreed 💯. I used sing that one I think it's called Blood Money, when I was by myself lol.
"Hi Bob! Bye Bob! Best $1.80 I've ever spent!"
Absolutely love Young Guns & Young Guns 2. It forever solidified my love for Westerns. #Pals
One of my favorite movies ever! Emilio and Lou were amazing in this film. The score..
Oh man.
Loved the score to Guns 1, but the score to the sequel is partly what ruined the movie. Bon Jovi ugh.
Yes the music in young guns 2 is awesome
Great soundtrack, thank God for Bon Jovi
Yes, the score by Alan Silvestry for Young Guns 2 was amazing!!! He did Back to the Future, so he has some real talent. I still watch the movie just cause of the score and music by Bon Jovi. The cast for guns 2, wow!
I love Tombstone and many of Clint Eastwood's westerns but nothing can top Young Guns for me...especially the first one. I've watched it at least 30 times and it never gets old.
Clint eastwood is a proud descendent of the confederacy, outlaw josey wales is an ode to their rebellious betrayal against the united States of freed men
For me it's the quick and the dead but young guns is a very very close second
@@ryanbass2458 - That's another awesome one for sure.
One of the best movie moments for me is when Doc confronts Billy.
Doc: "William H Bonney, you....ARE NOT...a God."
Billy: "Why don't you pull the trigger and find out."
Chills. 🥶🥶
I shall finish the game
That is really cool, I agree
Young Guns 2 is far superior to 1...only reason people didn't like it more was because of the darker ending. YG2 had better performances. Cinematography. Music. Set design. Locations. Etc.
I always liked part 2 more
@@flashinthepan32731:20
Agreed. Love the ambiguous ending too. Feeding into the legend that billy the kid lived n all that. Love it
@@garyangel3885 All you ...dirty little Billy bastards...
I would always watch them both back to back, I enjoy 2 more, especially for the story, but the original has that battle scene at the end which had a great build up, but it’s best enjoyed as one two part movie.
Wanted three now. Needed three back then too. Our eighties actors are dying off we need to hug em 😢
I was 12 years old when this movie was released. Wow, what a different world it is now.
Yeah .. it was a much better world back then for sure..
I was around the same age I would say these movies and Batman I thought they were so cool almost adult lol
@BillyBob-wq9fl I agree 💯
Hello Bob! Best dollar 80 I ever spent!
Absolutely one of my favourite films as a kid. They get that balance between history and entertainment just right, such a fun movie.
Jeff Beck's guitar solo on Blaze of Glory is glorious!!!!
These movies hold a special place in my heart me and my brother Dave used to watch them when we were little and go outside and play Cowboys
Both of these are just AWESOME !
I thought it was SO COOL that he was still alive and telling his story as an old man.
What the fuck I just watch Young Guns 1 and 2 after years like a month ago and was searching stuff up about the movies and now this pops up. What are the odds
Dont forget to wash off the goobygoo from your hands @@goobygoo6676
I fought in the Lincoln County Wars, but that was a long time ago..... This kid could shoot
Kept telling my son to watch these movies. He kept putting it off and putting it off the finally watched them. I walked into his room to see him with a giant grin on his face during the first one saying "this is awesome!". He watched tons of westerns that year after that lol
I appreciate the attention to detail and historical accuracy by Rusco. I’m down for Young GUNS 3!
Holds your horses sparky
I think we call that Tombstone.
Sadly that one would have to be called “Old Guns” today.
Most of the movie based on a major fallacy.
@@Idontbeliveanythingyousay I’m aware they changed a bunch for the movie but hearing what he wanted is what I appreciated
Reminds me my late teens on how fun the late 80s and 90s were.
GOOD DAYS MAN
🎶 "Shot down in a blaze of glory!"
That was the first cassette tape I ever bought when I was seven years old, was that single
Q finger bangs to that jam
Whole soundtrack was a banger
You’re goddamn right.

I’ve never seen these movies but this makes me nostalgic for the early nineties, so I may check them out.
You will not be disappointed.
Young Guns is one of my favorite movies of all time.
Correction, there are in fact TWO verified photos of Billy the Kid. One was found a few years ago and verified to be authentic.
Yes. Playing croquet
I want to see it compared to ol Bill like the first photo
It’s only verified by one source with an agenda. It is not widely accepted that it’s Billy in the croquet photo. There is absolutely zero provenance. That’s why it has not been sold.
There's more than two
Correction there are 4
Love this movie! Needs a proper 4K release.
I was a teen working the box office when this came out, the lines were around the block for weeks! I saw this movie so many times on the big screen it's insane. 😆 ❤️ And this soundtrack by Jon Bon Jovi was on regular walkman rotation for months! It's still a personal top 10 soundtracks of all time. I lobe this movie so much! The og is fantastic, but this sequel is pure entertaining perfection! Perfectly cast and directed. Thank you for finally getting to this!
Uncle Buck, is the movie I saw twenty billion times as the usher, in a small town movie theater..
Everyone went to watch ghost and I went alone to see thus
The Kid rides tonight
@@larryscarr3897really 20 billion times? Are you serious?
@@michael-4k4000 you watch Uncle Buck an actual 500 times and tell me it don't feel like 20 billion.
I love these two movies.
Lou’s accident was horrible. I can’t believe he survived.
I always thought when I was younger that the young guns movies were probably a lot of bullshit with just a little bit of historical accurate stuff sprinkled in.....
I was really surprised to find out years later when I researched it all to find out that the majority of both movies are so close to the true history. Ok it's been mostly moved around in the timeline to fit better in a movie..... but yeah... even some of the stuff I thought was way too over the top to have actually happened, really did.... happen.
The general story was very true how the events went down. However, Charlie was actually killed where Doc dies in Young Guns 2 and the real Chavez and Doc Scurlock both lived to be old men and were never gunned down in real life.
My favorite movie, and best sequel ever made. So quotable, so many great actors!
Just the other day out of nowhere I said out loud (to myself) "my name is Henry William French"..... don't know why. This movie just lives in my head.
That’s cool. I often quote this movie.
If anyone out there never watched Longmire with him in it you need to! Great show!
Q: What happened to Young Guns?
A: They grew old.
Damn!!! that Lou Phillips horse mishap was brutal. Hard to just listen to it being described.
Real talk I have a New found respect for La Bamba
RITCHIE VALENS A G!
The Young Guns movie's were my absolute favorite when I was a kid. I would love to see a third one! I truly felt at the end of Young Guns 2 there were a lot of questions that needed to be answered. And getting Lou Diamond Phillips back would be a must.
Lou Diamond is a Gem! G3t it?
Does this mean Alan Ruck is coming back too? Because he was Hendry William French, a Regulator, who survived the movie too. Feels wrong to leave him out
William H. Bonney: "Buckshot George", that's your name. You wanted a name, that's it. "Buckshot George". It's a good name.
Hendry French: My name is Hendry William French.
William H. Bonney: That's a good name too.
He's currently on the Enterprise waiting for all the ship's replacement parts to arrive on Tuesday.
🎶I wake up in the morning, and I raise my wary head. I got an old coat for a pillow, and the earth was last nights bed....🎶
Who exactly did NOT know that Emilio played the narrator?!😂
Many of us found ways to outgrow this part of our childhood
Yeah really, it sounded like Emilo doin' a bad impression of an old westerner.
I going to have "Bang A Drum" played at my memorial service. I fell in love with that song when I first heard it back in the '90s.
Arkansas Dave Rudabagh shows up in Wyatt Earp…sort of. He was hated by Doc Holliday. In the movie Wyatt Earp, Doc tells Wyatt where to find him and Wyatt is seen retrieving a prisoner who is supposed to be Arkansas Dave. In real life…it didn’t quite happen that way.
Still hard to find a better death scene than DOC
Silvestri nailed the soundtrack on everything he made. Including Judgement Night, another Estavez film, though much less known. Also a great flick.
The soundtrack/ original score is one of the best! Love the western sound.
I really hope they end up making Young Guns 3 and it would be easy to bring back Kiefer and Lou since Part 2 is Brushy Bill telling a story, he can always say he was lying about their fate to protect his friends. Essentially, doing for them what Pat Garrett did for him.
I saw the first two Young Guns films in the theater with my older sister. Since she was seven years my senior, she took me to the movies almost every Sunday and we saw a lot them from '83 to '90. Young Guns 1 & 2 were among the better ones.
But if Brushy Bill's entire story was a lie that would discredit and ruin Guns 2 all in the name to do a Guns 3. Bad idea.
@@wendaltvedt4673 his entire story isn't a lie, just the death of his Regulators. Perhaps he thinks, like Pat Garrett thought, if people assume they are dead, then the law won't go after them.
When Billy rides out of Fort sumner in the beginning. Pat watches him ride away and says “ride little casino.”
The Pat Garrett character in Chisum staring John Wayne called Billy “little casino.”
For a Few Dollars More, The Good and the Bad, Tombstone, Dances with Wolves, and both Young Guns are my favorite western films.
YG1 and YG2 are both amazing, including their scores!
Another blaze of glory, video
Please please please never stop ♥️
One of my favorite movies ever
This was my favorite group of guys, I have the same birthdate as Emilio, so I always thought of myself as Billy the Kid
Wow what an awesome story! Can you tell it again? Do you have time?
Manythnx 🤘 one of my all time favorites..hard to imagine they were freezing while filming
Just watched this last night for the first time in well over a decade. Weird coincidence.
This movie holds up so well. I still feel like this movie is on par with the original.
Had this on VHS 📼 as a kid & loved it (orob my fav). Would love to see a 3rd 👏👏
Seen this in the theater as a kid and I loved the movie then and still do now.
Great film. Entertaining from start to finish.
These are both, still, a couple of my favorite movies. Every time someone says, "was" and kind of hesitates, I'll say "were". They look at me with a quizzical look, and I'll say "that's right Doc, were. Ain't no regulators no more, no room for 'em, no room for me. I'm takin the Mexican Blackbird." If they're dumb enough to ask 'what?" I continue on.
With that said, there is no need for a Young Guns III, Old Guns, Guns 3, or whatever. Leave these classics alone. They are just fine where they left them. Wrapped up nicely. Pals.
P.S. Did you know pigs is smart as dogs?
Did you see the size of that chicken?!?!
Hey Chavez, how's come they ain't killin us?
This is one of those rare occasions where the sequel is better than the original. I love the first one, but it looks like it was a made for tv movie.
I agree.
My favourite western of all time.
Young guns 2 is the best western of all time
All time favorite both movies are perfect with great lines. PALS
It's still crazy to me that the one guy who helped me not grow to hate myself as a Latino was a Filipino. At 7, I was the only brown kid. Not white, not black, and didn't speak english yet. Since all I could watch at the time were mainstream movies and shows, all heroes were white at the time, there were no cool brown guys, until ''87 and "88 when Lou was in Stand and Deliver, La Bamba AND Young Guns.
I get the music from this movie stuck in my head a lot.
"You asked if I had scars?..Yeah,I got my scars..."
Haha, Just watched it today and woundered why it havent got as musch cred as it should. Funny you uploaded this clip just before 😀
Saw both in theatre. Both great.timeless like lost boys
Loved them both but yeah part 2 was definitely as good as the 1st one if not better! They did a good job continuing the story!
Love this film, a perfect sequel!
I'm now 46. When Young Guns was playing at theaters, I was obsessed. I went to the movies to watch both 1 and 2 countless times. Admittedly, I watched them recently and the 1st one is almost unwatchable. It's not as good as I remember, but the 2nd one still holds. I even played that Bon Jovi song from the soundtrack, "Blaze of Glory" constantly. Ahhh the good ole days.
Great movie! Great soundtrack!
Huh ? Young guns 2 is goated . It’s one of the best
1 of my favvvv movies ever.when i seen it as a kid.i cried when shavez died
i love both movies .. the second was awesome with jon bon jovi track .. oh heck the album is awesome ..
young guns 3 can you imagine? No idea how you could make that movie, what story is left to tell? I just remember my life was really good around the time these movies came out. Makes me feel happy to remember those wonderful days in the 90s.
I cannot watch these movies separately. If I watch YG, I must watch YG2 right after. To me, it’s just a long continuous movie. I’d love to add a YG3 to the mix
Regulators mount up! Back when Hollywood knew how to make a film worth watching. Most movies made today are all shallow tripe that aren't worth anyone's time or effort.
So awesome that they put my hero, Jon Bon Jovi, in the movie!! The soundtrack was awesome, the movie was awesome, I love it.
I own this movie and it graces my western collection. I love this movie.
I love how young guns 2 is essentially young guns 1 with a bigger budget
My only complaint about YG2 was it was not a R rating like the first one other then that it was a great film just as good if not better then the first one the soundtrack was amazing.
It was a bit more family friendly compared to Guns 1, also I hated the bon jovi score.
@@wendaltvedt4673 which score are you talking about? the end credit song or the music in the film the music in the film was Alvin salvestra
Great video! I LOVED both movies and til this day love "Blaze of Glory!" This is one of my all time favorite songs... Been hoping they finally get to filming "Guns 3" but man this movie has been a big tease so far.
LDP sacrificed a lot for both movies. And that's something cool to know since Chavez was my favorite of the bunch. I just wish the shamanistic nature of the character would have had more time.
I love both of those. I have the 4k blu ray of the first movie pre ordered.
Young Guns and Young Guns 2 are top ten movies of all time for me easy.
These movies are amazing. REGULATORS! MOUNT UP!
A truly awesome movie! Bring on Guns 3!!!
Thank you
Great movie awesome soundtrack
I'll tell you what happened to Young Guns 2..Writer John Fusco literally lifted the entire script from the 1973 classic Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid, written by Rudy Wurlitzer..He just rearranged it a bit..No joke, check it out..Watch both movies and you'll be blown away by the similarities..James Coburn plays a different role but still uses some of the same lines from '73 lol..
I’ve been waiting since August of 2022 for Guns 3, when it was originally scheduled for release…
I own it just curious, Is there a commentary track on young guns 2 DVD?
I like iit but apart from the end leaves it to us to decide it changes history
RE; real noose -
and that's when the prop manager knew that he had fucked up. 😅
Love them both!!
Loved YG 1 and thought 2 was good but for me JMO Tombstone is the best Western Ever made. The unforgiven is also Very good
The first one was fantastic and i loved it. The secpnd one was really good too, but i was just as bumbed to see Doc die as i was to see Charlie die, or any of the original guys from the first one.
I feel like, in a way, Young Guns was a sleeper hit, boosted by word of mouth via VHD. Sp when the sequel came out the public was hungry to see the continued story.
They refuse to allow Billy's grave to be exhumed for fear the coffin may be empty and their tourist industry will dry up.
R.E. my previous comment regarding the intensely unpleasant volume of the gunshots in the beginning...I'm referring to the two at around 1:25-ish.
Thank you so much for not just doing this but for your obvious enthusiasm for the property. You always have great videos but when you clearly are excited to share one it just hits on another level. Kinda reminds me of when I was on a deployment and the company man who had borrowed my fellow Devil Dogs and I...and they were teaching us ALL KINDS OF STUFF and one was to smile when we were talking on the phone because the change in the shape of our mouths would change the sound completely leaving the impression that we were happy and not on a 15min meal and bathroom, reload etc before hopping right back on the razors edge.
Annnyway😂..I hope that you and those you care for are happy, healthy, and safe. Semper Fidelis
My fav movies as a kid….
Even their horses are crazy.
Loved these movies as a kid. My sister used to use "Navajo" as a derogatory name.😂
😂
My buddy would always call to my girlfriend who was part Ojibwe: "Navajo, Navajo". They're married to each other now so obviously she found it endearing. Love you, Craig and Meghan.
Miss seeing a lot of these guys in movies like Good ol Slater! If he had a good movie and part it would be alesome like one of my favorites with him and badass beautiful Patricia in TRUE LOVE!
Young Guns 3??
*insert the “Shut up and take my money meme”*
Those movies definitely had some '80s/'90s cheese.
