Also if you do us a muffler it should be mounted vertical with the notch on the bottom pointing down to allow for drainage.
I ended up buying the same one. In our clamshell we’ve used it on the lowest setting with the windows cracked open! That was 29 degrees. Now 16 in the ground tent, we ran it all the way up at 5.5. It burned a tank a night on wide open throttle lol. Things to know when you pack diesel!
Thanks for this video. All new stuff to me. I’m like you, when I go camping it’s not a survival mission. I like to be warm. I’ll be checking these out.
Good how-to, which helped me. If I could add to it - while putting on the intake and exhaust on the Silvel/Wippro - there’s a slot on the side that a screw driver can fit in. It shows in your video. I figured that out after trying for 10 minutes to get my ratchet in along with my sausage sized, old man fingers (w/no success). The slot and a screw driver works like a charm! BTW my Wippro uses 5mm socket. Hope this helps someone.

Can you do a review on how well a diesel heater compares to an ecoflow wave 2? I have a rtt and though I know the wave 2 is more expensive, I like the fact that I could use 1 unit instead of 2 separate units.
Great video, I use Kerosene instead of diesel in both of mine. The entire heater remains super clean inside. However, Diesel is easier to come by out in the wild though.
Hey Matt, I was wondering, if it was melting your cutting board tail gate mod, did you end up having to move it? Where do you put it at now, or did you find a fix for it? Or after that did you just decide to sit the heater on the ground and be done with it. I was thinking of having it on my tailgate as well, but then I caught this video, and heard yours melted a little. Just curious as to how that turned out.
I've purchased a Silvil, and am going to run the heat through a 3" tee fitting attahed to two separate duct hoses to supply heat to a roof top tent and my Hiker. Are you attaching the 3" duct hose to the a/c prep fitting on the front wall of your Hiker?
Not at all considering 1) it's outdoors 2) the exhaust is higher than the intake and 3) that intake is for the combustion chamber. the air intake that provides the air that goes into your tent is on the back of the heater.
Do you think the noise from the heater would disturb other folks in a campground (Nat'l Park/State Park) where they have "quiet hours" at night? Just ord'd a muffler, the one piece I didn't have, through the Amazon link you provided.
They look great and this is a great video on the whole process. However, I'd need some sort of solution for the sound that fuel pump. That clicking sound would drive me nuts. I know there are several videos for people trying to resolve it. Not sure I've seen one that wasn't a bit of a production though. Would think the manufacturers would figure something out to rectify that noise.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Right on. So why did you choose diesel heaters instead of some of the other options like some of the propane options, or maybe even the gas heaters that are the same as diesel?
So does this heater run all night? Or does it kick on and off throughout the night? It seems like it would get really hot (the heater and inside the tent) if it just ran all night long
Great info as always. We have a jumping jack trailer that we are thinking of using in a base amp type situation and looking into a Gazelle ground tent otherwise. This looks like a great way to up the comfort level for myself not to mention my wife!! This will be a definite for us as we prefer fall winter camping to hot summer camping!….unless this is also an air conditioner!! Haha
Do you have any thoughts on full electric tent heating using a jackery or ecoflow battery type system and a regular old space heater? The youtuber "tinkerer's adventure" recently had a really interesting video about this. He was even carrying a microwave on the trail!
With full electric, your looking at using your heater to get your tent warm to go to bed, and warm it up in the morning before you get up. You can't run electric all night on a portable power station. I use all electric right now, and that's what I do. Id addition I have a USB powered heated sleeping page and some really warm blankets ( a wool military blanket is great in humid cold environments over top a normal camping quilt). Keep an eye out on Ecoflow's Wave 2 though, it has a heat pump system built into it which will be way more energy efficient but I'll want to test it out in person to see what it can handle.
Diesel fuel only has a thermal energy output of around 3.5kw.. So technically... None of these diesel heaters are 5 or 8kw..... They can only blow as hot as the fuel can burn...... Diesel has a lower energy output.. Hence the need for higher compression in a diesel motor, vs a gas....
$2000 + for a portable heater (the ROAM container alone is $@400 ) intended for a RRT or even a ground tent is a tad excessive, IMHO. I don't go into the "wild" to sleep in a 68 degree environment. If I want to do that I take the 22' trailer but that is a different experience altogether. I did build a Planar / Autoterm unit some years back and that thing has been rock solid. No thermostat but all I want is to heat up my RTT or ground tent so that I can enjoy a few hours of reading, etc before calling it a night. The heater goes off until the morning when the heater comes to life and heats up the area in a matter of a few minutes. I get it that some folks want a different experience but that seems a bit excessive to me... "Different strokes for different folks!"
Careful with the dryer duct hose off of Amazon. The stuff that claims to be insulted...has a black plastic around the outside of it that puts off nasty fumes. I literally woke up the next morning vomiting with a terrible headache

Not at all considering 1) it's outdoors 2) the exhaust is higher than the intake and 3) that intake is for the combustion chamber. the air intake that provides the air that goes into your tent is on the back of the heater.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures cool thanks
Thanks was funny.. made me laugh.. love it.. gonna get one ..
Do you think the noise from the heater would disturb other folks in a campground (Nat'l Park/State Park) where they have "quiet hours" at night?
Just ord'd a muffler, the one piece I didn't have, through the Amazon link you provided.
I doubt it. They are pretty quiet.
Quiet hours, no. No generator areas, all depends if someone complains.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Thanks 👍
Got a Silvel and it came with a muffler
They look great and this is a great video on the whole process. However, I'd need some sort of solution for the sound that fuel pump. That clicking sound would drive me nuts. I know there are several videos for people trying to resolve it. Not sure I've seen one that wasn't a bit of a production though. Would think the manufacturers would figure something out to rectify that noise.
when I'm in the tent and the heater is below I can't hear it. It's much louder when it's in the garage and I'm right next to it.
where did you get all that wall decor? They're awesome!
Hobby Lobby
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Right on. So why did you choose diesel heaters instead of some of the other options like some of the propane options, or maybe even the gas heaters that are the same as diesel?
So does this heater run all night? Or does it kick on and off throughout the night? It seems like it would get really hot (the heater and inside the tent) if it just ran all night long
It runs all night. If you crank it up it can get quite hot. If you run it on a lower setting it's very nice!
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures awesome. It's on my constantly growing list but your video definitely helped a lot. Thank you.
Haha
why does the link show taller and thinner heater did they change the design?
They may have or the square one is out of stock. It's the same thing just in a different case.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures thanks...the square one looks more stable
Have you seen the Hcalory ones in the Apache style case? Been out a few months and like $229.
I have. They look interesting and have bluetooth app control
The link to the heater looks different than the one in the video. It's a lot slimmer. Great video as always OIIIIIIIO
I know they make both form factors. They may be out of the one I have. Not sure. It's the same one in a different package.
Also I have seen yours an others use out camping have put under vehicle or cover there not water proof units
Mount the exhaust pipe exactly like in this video pointing away far from the air intake. You don't want gases going into the air you breathe.
Do you find the muffler makes much difference?
It does help.
Is it ok to set the heater out in the weather? Snow or rain doesn’t bother it? Just curious.
I keep mine under cover when it's raining just to protect the screen.
Thank u sir.
Nice video .... would love to see where you put it outside your roof top tent : )
Thanks! I put it either on the ground or I have a small aluminum table that I set it on under my tent to kinda protect it from rain.
All you need is a bison hide...although getting into a cold one is miserable. That is where a diesel heater comes into play.
I have the identical setup.
Good info!
Do you have any thoughts on full electric tent heating using a jackery or ecoflow battery type system and a regular old space heater? The youtuber "tinkerer's adventure" recently had a really interesting video about this. He was even carrying a microwave on the trail!
Heating with electricity uses a LOT of power. I don’t see how you would get a full night out of one even using a 2000wh power station.
I'd do some YT research on these. There are a lot of little things to know and tweak about these things that'll make them last longer.
I said that in the video. This is not that kind of video.
I bought 2 heaters from Vevor and both gave me E-2. doa
Aren't you concerned that the exhaust and intake are too close together oh, that the intake may bring in some exhaust fumes
How? The exhaust is higher than the intake and it’s outside. There’s zero chance of that.
Where does it say 5k
It's actually 5khz. It's in every title and description on amazon.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures thank you for the quick reply
i still need to get my diesel heater. ive been putting it off for a while!! First comment again. lol
It"s not for glaming. I got to work. I have to carry power with me anyway.
Valiant Expedition Trailers builds a propane one in a ROAM box - ruclips.net/video/pdiji052wGI/видео.html
I haven't had a problem with mine and have been using it for a couple months.
Love your channel, but dude what's up with the hair.... not hating but got to be a story behind that.
It’s just fun. I’ve been having fun with my hair for years.
Say..nice hair..
Why the hair tho
Cuz it’s fun tho. 🤷🏼♂️
You’re right it is fun. Also, how do you know which is the exhaust and which is the intake when setting up a all in one heater?
What is this...30 minutes of nothing. Wasted 5 minutes just skipping through it.
Isn't that your fault for clicking on a video that didn't pertain to you? Thanks for sharing. 😂
I cant take advise from anybody with that much hair product in their rig.
Hair spray is too much to carry in your rig? Seems odd. Maybe try being less petty. That would help.
😁
liberal lgbtqrs hair nice
You’re a moron. Try super conservative 2a supporting straight married guy that enjoys having fun in life. Stop being a boring, petty, judgmental prick.Hair isn’t political. 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
