Thanks. I just ordered one based on your review / experience. Although, I need to catch your videos sooner cause they were sold out of the tall ones by the time I placed my order so, I had to settle for the short stubby one……lol. I am still very new to all of this so I am excited to eventually try this out!
I love winter camping but for training purposes. For some reason sleeping like shit and near freezing to death with minimal gear is fun to me. But I'm currently building a teardrop and wanna have a glamping option for heat. I'm gonna have a wood stove as my main source of heat but when I wanna sleep more than 3 hours without having to refill it I'm gonna use the diesel heater
Fantastic advise Matt, I used the exact same unit last night in the rooftop tent and slept with windows half open because it was so toasty inside and 29° outside. I will definitely change the 3 inch to a 4 inch hose to avoid any potential problems. Thanks again, also, what do you use to keep the floor from getting so cold and electric blanket?
Thank you your information is very helpful. I will first try it in my shop for testing but son and I like camping ground tents and as it is getting colder we are trying different heating options. All other heating options comes with fire hazards.
I like the bluetooth feature. Really makes the heater much more flexible. I have a Jackery 1500 and a Bluetti AC180P and neither one of them will run my Vevor diesel heater. I have the square model but that should not make a difference. It will only run off my big Bluetti AC200MAX. Interesting thing is all three of my power stations 12v cig lighter outputs are all rated at 10a.
The start up current is roughly 12A at 12V - say 160W. This can be a problem for some batteries and definitely a cigarrette lighter socket. You may have to use a step up and step down to manage the surge current. Step up to 120V and then step down to 12V via a 120V to 12V 20A converter. The 160W is managed without excessive current. Yes, this is annoying. Even more so when attempting to power with a generator.
13:22, you triggered my Siri!🤣 Edit: I've used my un-cased Chinese Diesel Heater for 4 years in my 1989 40' Retired Air Force Ambulance bus (full timer) And I fuel it OFF ROAD diesel fuel in a 5 gallon reclaimed oil bucket with lid and spout. I just drop the pick-up tube into the bucket spout (the tube is weighted on end to keep it toward the bottom of bucket) I never pouring fuel from one container to another👍
I have a EB70s and it tripped out on the cigarette lighter part. I had to buy a 15 amp inverter and use it in the 120 plug on it in order to make it work so not all bluetti will work
Thanks for the reply. I’m going to order a 2kilowatt and try that I just like the idea of the Bluetooth option for my micro camper and keep the 8kilowatt for a backup 👍
I got the same one but the version that is a kit for $115 shipped. I use vp race cans for my fuel tanks and just put the fuek line in the breather hole and it makes it so simple. I never have to pour Diesel! Just swap tanks.
They need to make a 2k single discharge. The 5-8 are too large IMO. I am interested to see how it does in altitude. Even the name brands struggle over 10k.
We use a Lavaner alpine pro 5kw. I built out my own heater box that attaches to a 5 gallon wavian can with no-loss fuel connectors. The alpine model has a built in barometric pressure sensor and auto compensates for elevation. We used to camp at the base of Ophir pass (10K' elevation) for 5 days without any issues.
Thanks for the review. Been sitting on one of these for a while now but will buy one. Just can’t decide if I should get the horizontal one or vertical. Cheers.
I am going to build a square drop camper and was thinking about this heater. Is the room temp controlled by the LCD screen. Is the LCD screen removable so I could pass the wire through the wall of my camper and leave the heater outside?
My Diesel heater will not run off my AB55, it draws about 130 watts just like you but trips the breaker/ safety on the EB55. I upgraded the wire size to see if that made a difference but no luck. If I could post a picture of the tire step I used for supporting the heater. Also make sure you point the exhaust away from the intake air or you will blow it right into your vent duct that going into your tent.
@@BPJeep do you mean a 10a-15a adapter? Or is the power supply different from that? I have read the heater will draw most power upon start. after that it draws little power.
Great video and very informative. I did have a question from an observation I made though. You seem to be running your exhaust out the back of the unit right next to where it draws the air to be heated. This doesn’t seem like a great idea to me?
What I thought was exciting was automatic altitude adjustment. Bluetooth not so much but it’s a plus. Also, why not extend the controller wiring and run it into the tent? Then you can set a temp and have it adjust automatically.
Love the videos been watching awhile I got the rig set up get to try these alberta winters im by calgary maybe see u in the hills some day im gonna try living in my truck set up in mountains and keep workin

The bluetooth app feature, and vertical/slimmer profile tempted me, and I ordered (via amazon) the 8kw model yesterday. Just looked to check the tracking info for my order, and they are now temporarily out of stock on that model.
Excellent video.. just about to start using them, and needed these pre-knowledge.. 1 question!!! How Would the unit know the temperature of the tent, and cycle when reaching the desired indoor temperature?, I think the thermostat is built in in the little UI, which you left outside with the unit, is it convenient to make an extension and get that UI the tent?
I don’t use them that way. I just set the amount of heat I want and leave it and then adjust it up or down as needed. If you want it to cycle on and off then you’ll need to extend the controller.
If mounted solid. Would it be reasonably safe to use one of these in something moving down the Rd? I'm sure you would want to keep fuel level above anything sloshing would introduce air
Love all of your content. I am NOT “electricity smart”. I have this same diesel heater and running it to a eco flow delta 2 and it keeps saying overload and turns off my heater. I am assuming its just to much amperage while getting that glow plug up and running. PLEASE , any advice is welcomed. Can this be wired to an ac plug?
first of all, great video. i'm close to pulling the trigger on this unit but concerned about the power draw on start up. i currently have the EcoFlow River Pro with the extra battery. output on the 12 volt plug is 10A and if i heard correctly the draw on start up is 15A. I've looked at different power stations and they all have the same output of 10A. Is it trial and error or how do i go about finding out if my power station will work. thank you in advance.
The Maxpeeding Rods brand has Bluetooth app and auto altitude adjustment as well and a higher quality fuel pump. $145. In my opinion the 8kw is overkill for rooftop tents and ground tents. You only need an 8kw for larger trailers or RVs. Just buy the 5kw models. Also buy some extra wire to splice and extend the LCD controller into the roof tent. That way you can utilize the built in thermostat. Last, you will never get an overheating error with 3” hose on the 5kw Maxpeeding Rods brand. I never have to run mine over fan speed 3. Mostly run mine at fan speed 1 at 34-40 deg outside. Fan speed 2 at 27-33 outside. Fan speed 3 for 25-32 deg outside. All those speeds keep the temp steady between 67-70 deg inside the rooftent or inside my jeep. Below 25 deg I’d run speed 4. Last, in the video don’t aim the exhaust pipe in the direction of your fresh air intake. You’ll get carbon monoxide poisoning.
I would bet a weeks pay that the Maxpeeding Rods brand and the Vevor are identical. How do you know the fuel pump is quieter? Have you tested the two side by side? Maybe you didn’t pay attention to the video but I literally showed it being used in our trailer. And my exhaust isn’t aimed at the fresh air intake.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I didn’t say it’s a quieter pump. It’s higher quality. My Vevor pump failed after around 20-ish uses. It’s also physically bigger in size. My buddy who recommended the Vevor to me had the same issue after many uses. My brother had been using the Maxpeeding Rods for over a year full time overlanding and has had zero failures. He too also uses the 3” pipe and has never had P-04 overheating error code. Also the controller is different than Vevor. Not sure the controller is any better or worse. Oh and almost forgot, Maxpeeding Rods has a higher quality fuel filter than my Vevor. Last, most RUclips reviews of maxpeeding Rods diesel heaters have impeccable reliability and performance accolades.
I guess I’d take your bet that these are not identical units. Even the cast aluminum bodies are different. Turns out it is a quieter fuel pump after all. If you’re willing watch this whole video below. Especially at 21:47. Almost everything is an upgrade over the Vevor. Also the Maxpeeding rods comes with Vent mode which the Vevor does not have. If your tent gets too hot you can vent out some heat without having to open a window. ruclips.net/video/gCgI9VAyoNs/видео.htmlsi=dx-k7glvOG_OcjKS
Thanks a lot for the great review. 2. questions...Are you worried having the intake and exhaust so close together? Can. you do a build out on how you had to connect everything?
I got the same unit and you can also attach a hose to the heated air intake (opposite side of the heated air) to put some distance between them. Same issue though I would go with 4in tube with a reducer right before it enters the heater to make sure flow restriction is minimized.
My only issue with my diesel heater has been wire Length. I bought a 15ft lead…and it kept tripping my Jackery. Dropped the length down to about 6 ft and no issues. I also broke the plastic 12v plug in transit. I’d recommend buying a two pack of 12v plugs if you get one.
What are the three types of power cord accessories for the vehicle battery, cigarette lighter and the BLUETTI EB55 Portable Power Station use for the diesel heater?
Great review, Matt! Would you recommend a couple of 2x4x10-12" pieces of wood screwed to the feet? Something just wide enough to provide stability and clearance for the exhaust? I like the idea of a heater that would extend my camping season. Just have to convince my wife. Thank you again!
Was watching another video and the guy said the exhaust needs to be run downhill from the unit because of condensation building up in the pipe and faulted out. Is that a thing?@@OzarkOverlandAdventures
Excellent video I have a e250 Econoline and looking for a diesel heater for comfort for winter camping. What is the link for this?thanks for the info well done.
I have a Wippro heater on order. It looks just like the one you have only different name. What’s your thoughts on it? Have you experienced anything or heard anything about it?
the weakness of the all-in-one seems to be dealing with the hot exhaust pipe. There's a reason these things have only been permanently mounted in the past.
I installed cheap metal sofa feet from Ikea to my unit. About 15cm high, will allow the exhaust pipe to have a reasonable slope downwards and point far away from the air inlet. Additionally wrapped the exhaust pipe in fiberglass exhaust tape (the same you use in motorcycles)
5kw is pretty strong unless you have a trailer or bigger RV/van of some kind. if you're just heating a tent as example, 5 would be all you would "need" but we sprung for the 8kw just for the extra heat. we heat our RTT on our Gladiator with it.
Great video! I can’t believe that they can’t manufacture this so it displays in Fahrenheit when they’re selling it in the US. And for that matter make the legs longer. My son bought the one you had previously just last week. And we had to build some legs to put under it but he said it worked Awesome! I’m thinking now he wishes he would’ve bought this one for the Bluetooth. Just had a curiosity, my son has the same power source and he runs his refrigerator off the cigarette lighter plug port. What do you run your refrigerator off of if you’re using this port for the heater?
Matt, i did order this today, and ordered a 12 volt adaptor plug. I think it is a heavy duty one i am not 100 percent sure if it is good enough. Do you have a link to the plug ypu ordered ?
How waterproof are these things? I have a square drop trailer and it would obviously live outside of it and I’d have to somehow plumb it in. I’ve seen people do ones in pelican cases under their rigs but I’d be worried about parking in long grass and setting things on fire
Thank for another awesome video Matt! I just got the exact same one. I haven't used it yet, but with this review I feel assured that it will be problem free. One question though, I did take the lid off, and noticed a kink in the gas line, did yours have this too?
I took mine off yesterday and didn’t have that but it’s also been used several times and has fuel in it now. I should have inspected it when it before I used it. I say fire it up and see what happens.
How long will this run on just plugged into a normal 12v truck battery? Does it drain a battery overnight if you don’t have one of those expensive blue yeti ?
Thanks for making such an informative video. Do you think a 5Kw version with separate heater and fuel tank would be too much heat for a small Ranger (Li-ion Battery Powered) with a fully enclosed hard cab with hard doors? I was thinking of mounting the 5kW heater box itself within the framework, under the dump bed, of the UTV, route the exhaust pipe rearward and down, and the 3" heat output pipe going to an existing 'vent' space - between an area where the driver's right and passenger's left leg are. Do you think it would be too much heat for the ability of the heater to control well? I'm seeing these heaters used for heating the insides of trailers and such. I'm just a bit concerned about the rather small area inside my Ranger UTV. I'd like to hear any thoughts you and anyone else may have. Thanks again!
Just ordered. Hope it’s as good as what’s being pitched. I was going to just go with an electric blanket but this is almost the same price. Figure might as well try it out I guess. Now I need a battery pack. What’s the min wattage you’d need to run this?

Although, I need to catch your videos sooner cause they were sold out of the tall ones by the time I placed my order so, I had to settle for the short stubby one……lol. I am still very new to all of this so I am excited to eventually try this out!
I brought a Coleman heater to the field when on active duty. Wish I'd had one of these since we had a good supply of diesel fuel.
I bought one last year because of you. I love love love it thanks Matt great video!
Perfect video, I just ordered exact same one. Do you notice and issue with the fuel line, others recommend to change to better fuel line.
Finally! A great, real life review. Awesome job!
Just received mine today! It’s the exact same model
I've never had an issue running mine on any Bluetti I own.
Maybe need bigger wire
The start up current is roughly 12A at 12V - say 160W. This can be a problem for some batteries and definitely a cigarrette lighter socket. You may have to use a step up and step down to manage the surge current. Step up to 120V and then step down to 12V via a 120V to 12V 20A converter. The 160W is managed without excessive current. Yes, this is annoying. Even more so when attempting to power with a generator.
Oh rats. I’ve got a bluetti AC180 and was hoping it would run it!!
I'm convinced:
I'm convinced that I need one with a fuel pump that doesn't sound like it's broken.
13:22, you triggered my Siri!🤣
Edit: I've used my un-cased Chinese Diesel Heater for 4 years in my 1989 40' Retired Air Force Ambulance bus (full timer)
And I fuel it OFF ROAD diesel fuel in a 5 gallon reclaimed oil bucket with lid and spout. I just drop the pick-up tube into the bucket spout (the tube is weighted on end to keep it toward the bottom of bucket) I never pouring fuel from one container to another👍
Thanks for the video!! I just removed the "buddy heater" from my cart.
I just saw these advertised in Canada and I am buying one early in January
I'm in Ontario, I just bought one 👌
Thats a game changer going to look into that... Thanks Matt
It’s my biggest game changer, just above the electric chainsaw.
Nice review of this Heater.😊
I have a EB70s and it tripped out on the cigarette lighter part. I had to buy a 15 amp inverter and use it in the 120 plug on it in order to make it work so not all bluetti will work
Interesting. I’ve use my EB70s and it worked just fine.
Wow!
Im buying one for my class b rv.
My old one broke and it wasn't energy efficient.
Hi Matt, I really liked the video. Very nice product! Thank you for sharing! 🚙
Great overview and examples. I’ve been looking into diesel heaters.
Subbed! Fantastic overview of that unit. Thinkin about getting one!
They need to make a 2k single discharge. The 5-8 are too large IMO. I am interested to see how it does in altitude. Even the name brands struggle over 10k.
They do make a 2kw version but only as a DIY kit.
I use mine at 10k plus almost every weekend now. I have had 0 issues!
When you had your hand Infront of it when it was to hot to keep your hand there I was expecting you to say you could cook your toast with it haha
Thank you Matt, excellent video. Just Ordered one 🙂
best price i seen so far, imma get one for sure thanks for sharing
I will be purchasing my first one. Now to pick a mfg.
thanks for the video 🙏
My Diesel heater will not run off my AB55, it draws about 130 watts just like you but trips the breaker/ safety on the EB55. I upgraded the wire size to see if that made a difference but no luck. If I could post a picture of the tire step I used for supporting the heater. Also make sure you point the exhaust away from the intake air or you will blow it right into your vent duct that going into your tent.
I'm sure different brands pull different power.
I just placed an order for an EB55 to run this heater. Did I make a mistake?
@@Dorkus_
Maybe mine does not work but I have a workaround, I had a 10 amp 110 v power supply and just use that off the Bluetti and it works great.
@@BPJeep can you link where to buy something like that?
The auto temp adjustment doesn’t work so well. Plus that’s a really long extension to get the controller to my tent.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Good point about the length, could you describe how the auto temp adjust isn’t great?
@@hyppievanman It in a tent with basically no insulation. I find it best to just run it at a low setting to give you a comfortable temp in the tent
Great review. Definitely answered some questions I had!
Glad it was helpful!
Love the videos been watching awhile I got the rig set up get to try these alberta winters im by calgary maybe see u in the hills some day im gonna try living in my truck set up in mountains and keep workin
I got a 2017 f150 sport its no jeep dog house tent and awning sliptank tool box probably gona keep it for deisel and solar and second battery shes my baby I'd send u a pic I'd I could figure out how I got long horns on my roof rack on cab
Great video. I’m looking for one for my RTT.
Friend of mine has one that thing is nice and super quiet
CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK. Ya, so quiet....🙄
Awesome review, thank you Sir!
Just in time for Merus. Thanks.
The bluetooth app feature, and vertical/slimmer profile tempted me, and I ordered (via amazon) the 8kw model yesterday. Just looked to check the tracking info for my order, and they are now temporarily out of stock on that model.
Oh dang!!!
Great video! I purchased a similar model based off your video! Do you think on a lower setting the BLUETTI EB3A will power it thru the night?
If mounted solid. Would it be reasonably safe to use one of these in something moving down the Rd? I'm sure you would want to keep fuel level above anything sloshing would introduce air
I think it could work.
67 degrees = "Is this glamping?" 😆
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures
I didn’t say it’s a quieter pump.
So can you leave it out in the elements? Do you tuck it away under something. I’m sure you can’t let snow & rain hit it. So how do you keep it dry?
Another great review video Matt, thank you. For a RTT, woukd you recommend having a quilted insulation installed when using a diesel heater or not?
I actually took out the insulation because these work so well.
Not worried at all. I did a setup video last year on a similar diesel heater.
Yep too long a wire is not good.
Try the LF Bros Diesel heater, it is an incredible unit!
What are the three types of power cord accessories for the vehicle battery, cigarette lighter and the BLUETTI EB55 Portable Power Station use for the diesel heater?
Have you had any issues with the jackery? I'm looking at getting an overland trailer and it comes with the jackery
hello. Thanks for all the details in the video. After you use it, should you empty what's left in the diesel tank?
I never have.
Great review, Matt! Would you recommend a couple of 2x4x10-12" pieces of wood screwed to the feet? Something just wide enough to provide stability and clearance for the exhaust? I like the idea of a heater that would extend my camping season. Just have to convince my wife. Thank you again!
Yes. That’s what I will probably do to mine.
I’ve been eyeing these for a hot minute. Great review Brother. Also what black hose is that you’re using? Any links for it?
@OzarkOverlandAdventures How much power did it draw off the bluetti all night?
I have a Wippro heater on order. It looks just like the one you have only different name. What’s your thoughts on it? Have you experienced anything or heard anything about it?
Thats funny mine will be here Saturday
I was considering using this for my camper and setting it outside. Will it operate in high winds and will snow and rain hurt it?
the weakness of the all-in-one seems to be dealing with the hot exhaust pipe.
@@florihae Good tips....thanks!
What would you think the criteria is to decide between 5KW and 8KW or do you just grab the 8KW to accommodate different size tents?
I honestly don’t think there’s much of a difference between them.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Thanks, Matt!! I’m sure it will be needed at Merus!!
5kw is pretty strong unless you have a trailer or bigger RV/van of some kind. if you're just heating a tent as example, 5 would be all you would "need" but we sprung for the 8kw just for the extra heat. we heat our RTT on our Gladiator with it.
I heard on these chinese diesel heaters, the 5kw vs 8kw, are pretty much the same, is that true?
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Thanks buddy, I will do that!
How long will this run on just plugged into a normal 12v truck battery? Does it drain a battery overnight if you don’t have one of those expensive blue yeti ?
Bought one thanks for the review, see you at Merus.
Heck yeah!!
I’d go with a 2kw for that.
Just ordered. Hope it’s as good as what’s being pitched. I was going to just go with an electric blanket but this is almost the same price. Figure might as well try it out I guess. Now I need a battery pack. What’s the min wattage you’d need to run this?
I think a 500wh power station is a great all purpose size.
Do you run a CO detector when operating the heater, especially in the overnight?
No
Alright... having a heck of a time finding a proper 12v plug for mine.. what did you use on yours? Thanks in advance
Great video. Do you keep CO sensor in tent? I just bought this heater and was wondering if you need CO sensor just to be safe. Thanks!
I would definitely.
I have a CO sensor, just to be safe
