Quick question.... I have seen last years G14 with the 4900HS, 2060, AniME back panel go on sale at times lately for as little as $1799 Cnd. The new 2021 model is $2699. Is this $900 better than last years or is the 2020 edition the better route to go? I would love to see a side by side shootout between last years and this years machines.
If i could answer, the 5900HS and 3060 are so much more ahead of the 4900HS and the 2060. If you really want the anime matrix LED, go for last year's model. If you want the most power in a compact 14, get the 2021 model. An alternative is the Razer Blade 14, but it's spendy. I bought my G14 for $1560 USD after tax.
The only thing keeping me away from this laptop is not having a 16:10 aspect ratio and a webcam. Even though it's bigger and heavier, I'm still going to wait for the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro.

This is a good laptop, but the G15 3060 is better in performance(by a small amount) and has quite a bit more stuff(considering the price is the same as the g14 at msrp)
One question for G14 2021 owners...does your device goes in sleep correctly?! I had 2020 model before and all worked well, now with newer model, when I press sleep, screen turns off but coolers still works. Any solution?
The Eluktronics MAG-15 and MAX-15 are also good options. They're both a little heavier than the G14 (4.2lb & 3.8lb vs. 3.5lb), but cost around the same. The Omen should be decent, but it's gonna be noticeably heavier to lug around than sub-4.5lb models.
What do you think of the 16" Lenovo Legion 5 Pro Ryzen 7 RTX3070 QHD and the ASUS Rog Strix Scar G15 Ryzen 7 RTX3070 QHD laptops? The Zephyrus G14 is a great laptop BUT the 16/9 screen aspect ratio on ASUS products is a PITA for anything other than gaming or watching movies. A 16/10 screen would be so much better and you could still have 16:9 within that.

@@one_step_sideways So... I ended up having to go with the G14 due to supply. I am actually quite happy with the purchase. If anyone is making the decision, and they have access to both, the G15 is the way to go for 90% of users. I think the fact that my gaming pc still has a 1070 and a 1080p display made it easier on me too, because the 3060 performs better than what I am used to in a lot more manageable and useable package. @@julians7268 Oh, I also forgot that 3060 actually does better at its 60W TDP limit than the 3080 at 60W. At least that's what I saw in one test. Anyway, the 3060 is quite the best GPU that you can have for the G14, or the G15 for that matter.
@@one_step_sideways Yea, the 3060 seems to be more at home in that environment than the 3070 and 3080 from what I've heard. The others are definitely better, but the increase in cost compared to the increase in performance just isn't as strong a value proposition. Still think the best setup is probably that G15 with a 3070 and the 165hz display, but with the 1080p 144hz display the 3060 isn't having to work quite so hard which allows it to keep up in some tasks. What kind of games? What’s its thermals like so far?
@@veermudambi5795 I've been playing Outsiders, No man's sky and Cold War for the most part. Thermals are pretty darn good, tends at about 85c under load. Really only experienced some throttling while playing No Man's sky oddly enough. I've also tried other games like Watch Dogs Legion and age of empires 3. I have no complaints at all. Can handle RTX impressively well.
I've been playing most of these games with a friend who is running an i9 9900k, 32 Gb of ram and a RTX 3080. with me playing at 1080p and him at 4k or 1440p, we get similar performance.

So youtube community,
what RAM would you recommend?
Is thermal paste a difficult task? Should I have a professional do it and pay out of pocket?
Have you disabled aggressive performance mode through the registry editor? If so, what have temperatures been for your G14?
Crucial's ram are the best for laptops though they are a bit expensive but if you can manage the budget then go for it.
Changing thermal paste for an laptop is a tedious job because you have to remove most stuff, so if you know what you are doing then you should do it but if not just pay for someone to do it.

I bought last year’s model and it is a really good laptop. The only thing I don’t like about it is the fan noise. The fans are always spinning and there’s no way to turn them completely off even on idle. They are not loud on idle but they are audible.
Try repasting the laptop. I recommend the Cooler Master Mastergel Maker thermal paste. And try to play around with the fan control. Also try undervolting the GPU and maybe downclocking it (and undervolting it further).
Stoked to play star citizen at work now.
i think there is something not mentioned enough with m1 macs, especially m1 MacBook Air: the silence
switched from MacBook pro 13 2015, i rarely heard its fan(unless i opened xcode or resolve)
but this m1 macbook air is just like a tablet
i own a Lenovo X1 Carbon, a sleek and relatively quite laptop, plus i use a passive cooling stand which helps to slowdown the fan
but the difference is still like day and night to me, i just love the silence of m1

Should I buy this one or the omen 15 3070 i5
The Eluktronics MAG-15 and MAX-15 are also good options. They're both a little heavier than the G14 (4.2lb & 3.8lb vs. 3.5lb), but cost around the same.
The Omen should be decent, but it's gonna be noticeably heavier to lug around than sub-4.5lb models.

What type of screwdriver we need so we can take off the bottom plastic cover when I want to add another RAM in the slot?

If anyone is making the decision, and they have access to both, the G15 is the way to go for 90% of users.
I think the fact that my gaming pc still has a 1070 and a 1080p display made it easier on me too, because the 3060 performs better than what I am used to in a lot more manageable and useable package.
Thanks for the input, and I hope this finds you in good health.
