This video is downright amazing. Wish I'd found it sooner. You've basically summarized all of my countless hours of reddit scouring in just 40 minutes. Just a quick question though. I've got a strix g15 advantage (with the RX6800M) and it runs really well but really hot. The GPU TGP exceeds 145W and idk whether to be worried or not. Edge temperatures are alright (~70-74) but hotspot temperatures (usually AAA titles on 1440p high) touch 100C. And I've got a 5900HX so that stays locked in at 95 as well. Haven't tried undervolting yet but I have improved airflow by raising the laptop while plugged into an external monitor.
One thing I've been trying to figure out is sound levels. Some games are quite no matter volume. Some games like forza 5 are loud and normal. I will check out atmos as you suggested. The best up and coming channel! Edit. Yes Dolby atmos was killing volume levels. Especially in RDR2
You're a lifesaver man. Couldn't get starfield to work on my brand new asus rog strix g15 advantage edition despite it previously working on an older computer a couple days ago. Would continue to crash after loading a save. Calles with ASUS, factory reset my computer to make sure I had all the right drivers installed. Turns out, I DIDN'T. Asus must have been outdated. Did the AMD radeon installation like you said and they have more up to date drivers. I installed the drivers from there, tried running my game, and first try it works again with incredible performance. Thank you so much.
If you can, I heavily recommend reformatting your drive, then doing a fresh install windows yourself. You can install armory crate yourself get rid any bloat ware, another tip is a app that can delete apps that windows it installs itself, boost your speed plus have way lower ram usage on idle.
great video, really informative! one thing though, for me personally the windows default graphic settings (15:48) was causing issues with framerate. my frames would spike and then drop and that was just the case the whole time until I disabled both of those settings, no issues since. hope that helps anyone that may have been having framerate issues.
Thank you very much for the video! Can you tell me which settings for Manual mode for GPU and CPU I should use for getting optimal performance without killing my laptop. I’m not good in settings like this. Thanks!
It takes some trial and error for sure. I recommend just creating like 5 or more presets that you can swap between and monitor the temps and fps in MSI Afterburner. Some games might also require more CPU power than others (CS:GO, Valorant), so it would be good to have a CPU-leaning preset that goes a little higher there. Nothing will kill your laptop though! It has plenty of sensors and safety mechanisms to make automatic adjustments to make sure that doesn’t happen. Fan curves should probably hit at least 80% by 85C on the GPU and 80% by 90C on the CPU.

Bluetooth prevents the laptop from entering sleep when the lid is closed. All I have to do is to turn off bluetooth in the settings and it will go into sleep shortly after closing the lid. Im able to replicate the issue every time but turning bluetooth back on and it will again not enter sleep when the lids closed. Turn off bluetooth and then give it a minute after closing the lid, put your head next to the fans and you should hear them turn off within around 30 seconds of closing the lid.

One thing I've been trying to figure out is sound levels. Some games are quite no matter volume. Some games like forza 5 are loud and normal. I will check out atmos as you suggested. The best up and coming channel!
Edit. Yes Dolby atmos was killing volume levels. Especially in RDR2
Thanks for the big help man! Got to know more about my laptop thanks to you! Was worth the purchase.
Of course! This is exactly why I always recommend newest drivers directly from AMD/Nvidia.
just bought G15. Thank you for all the info. it's really helpful for me as I have never bough gaming pc before.
If you can, I heavily recommend reformatting your drive, then doing a fresh install windows yourself. You can install armory crate yourself get rid any bloat ware, another tip is a app that can delete apps that windows it installs itself, boost your speed plus have way lower ram usage on idle.
This video is pure gold. It covers everything on reddit and is rxplained very well. U just got a sub
Thanks

GREAT video man! tomorrow I'll get the G15 and this is perfect to start
fixin up my g15 rn, appreciate the vid
thank you for this video, you did an amazing job bro!
great video, really informative! one thing though, for me personally the windows default graphic settings (15:48) was causing issues with framerate. my frames would spike and then drop and that was just the case the whole time until I disabled both of those settings, no issues since. hope that helps anyone that may have been having framerate issues.
@@JoshCravesTech Thank you for so fast response! I will do it.
Wow, I’m very impressed by your video and I’m only four minutes in.
Thank you !! Just thank you ! This was such a good video for someone that doesn't really understand much about all this and is trying to get the best out of a new laptop. Instantly subbed. Also, i just wanna add that you have an excellent voice for voice overs ! 🙏 It was like a hug (makes sense in my head) 😂😂
Thank you! Especially on the voice comment, I appreciate that 😂
incredibly useful, free of the standard humble bragging and overcomplicating every minute details. that you normally find in PC gaming videos.
I hope your channel continues to grow.
Hi thank you for your video.
regarding the wifi issue, it happened to me and after a lot of trouble shooting and drivers uninstal /reinstal, what worked for me was to: _open the laptop _phiscaly remove the wifi card _close the laptop _boot the pc and check that all wifi hardware is uninstalled _ reinstall your wifi card and boot the laptop it will reinstall the wifi card and it did the trick for me.
Incredibly helpful video! Thank you so much!
Bro a 1000 thanks to you
I just brought Azus rog g15 ryzen 9 rtx 3060.I am a 90%noob in pc stuff.
Your guide helped me a lot❤
Great video ! Can we have à screen shot of your recommanded settings in manual fan mode for gaming (cpu/gpu curves and cursors positionning ?)
Thank you sooo soo much!!! Really helpfull
Can you make a video on how to change out keyboard rgb options as well. I cannot seem to changed to solid color or anything. Thank you again
Thank you for that! I haven’t been using Bluetooth on my 2022 G15 so maybe that’s why sleep has worked
Thanks Josh. From that dude on Reddit!
Hats off to your effort and to the end to end guide for this laptop. I am looking for laptop where I can work and do some gaming. So my top 2 choice was a asus strix g15 else zephyrus G15. I am leaning more towards Zephyrus G15 as it looks subtle and can blend in everywhere without screaming GAMING laptop. Came across this video and it turned out to be A Holly Bible for zephyrus G15. Thank you for making such in-depth guide.
#subscribed! 😉
Thank you for the sub! Hope you enjoy the Zephyrus if you go with it!
Hello Josh,
Thank you for responding, I really appreciate it .
Well I am from India, and I am not getting the RTX 3070ti model.
I went to ASUS Rog for the same and they are saying the new RTX 4000 series is about to get launched that's why older models like 3070ti is not available.
What would be your opinion ?
Should I try to find the G15 with RTX 3070ti (with Ryzen7 or 9) or wait for the new cards to get released and get the newer Zephyrus (2023 model) with the RTX4XXX series cards, probably RTX4060 or 4070?
Thanking you in advance
Good day!!!
