    1. The "VRAM modules" that I thought were left without thermal putty at 20:50 are actually the LPDDR5X RAM modules, which explains why there's no pad/putty on them, so that is actually normal.
    2. There is finally a 32GB version of the 4070 model in the U.S.! Only bad thing is, it’s more expensive. But you get the fancy new AMD Strix Point CPU: www.bestbuy.com/site/6583376.p?skuId=6583376
    3. Mid-year units (manufacturer date May 2024 in the info I was given, as well as the newer AMD models) have tighter hinges with less wobble and trackpads with less rattle.

    I remember pouring over your content before (and after) getting my 2021 G15. Your optimisation guide and later, vbios guide were incredibly well done and have helped me get this machine performing better than I ever imagined possible - now reaching 70-80 frames in cyberpunk with all maxed settings (with dlss and some unofficial frame gen as well, no PT).
    The amount of effort you put into these videos is insane, especially the killer cinematic-grade visuals, and honestly the channel's criminally underrated. I hope you're able to keep creating far into the future, and I'm sure when I eventually get a new laptop (already considering the 2029 G16) this is where I'll be coming back to.

    • @JoshCravesTech
      @JoshCravesTech  7 месяцев назад

      @@Reaper31292 yes, there is a build of G-Helper where the fans can be turned completely off, at your own risk. Obviously a terrible idea in Turbo mode or something, but if you have it at something like the default silent profile then it should be fine.

    Ive been comparing the G16 with a Legion 7i, both with 4070 because prices jump way higher here in Canada. This video helped me choose a G16 with Ultra 9 and 4070, but with 32 GB RAM (an option here). I was blown away by the quality, thin build, and especially the speaker and screen! No reviewers were touching on the huge build quality gap! This has to be handled in person to understand but those other reviewers just glossed over it...thanks for the details!

    The reason so many manufacturers are using soldered DDR5 is because signal intergrity at those speeds is just not easy / possible with socketed. With soldered, the signal path is much shorter, and there are no contacts involved.

    • @exclaim2820

      uh, no, im literally writing this on a laptop with socketed ddr5 right now.

    • @CraftyLemons
      @CraftyLemons 19 дней назад

      No, they do it so that you pay more for higher ram as a "feature" even though you know upgrading the ram yourself costs as much as the ram itself if they just made it upgradeable. They can justify a 300-400 dollar difference for more storage.

    • @bigmikesvinyl8514
      @bigmikesvinyl8514 19 дней назад

      @@CraftyLemons signal integrity issues are real and sockets are problematic in that regard. The problems get worse at the higher clock rates and you will not find the super high clocked DDR5 modules in sockets, they are pretty much always the LPRDDR5 parts. The LPRDDR5 parts can run faster and use less power - both attractive features in a laptop. This laptop I think is running the memory at 6400 MT/s so theoretically they could have used a socketed part ( SODIMM at 6400 are available) but some of the CPUs have capped regular DDR5 support at 5600. I am sure it came down to price, form-factor, power, heat etc. I think we will see more and more soldered RAM going forward, especailly when you get beyond 6400MT/s it becomes a necessity.

    • @exclaim2820
      @exclaim2820 18 дней назад

      @@bigmikesvinyl8514 keep telling yourself that, the only real argument is no sockets allows slimmer laptops, thats it.

    • @bigmikesvinyl8514
      @bigmikesvinyl8514 18 дней назад

      @@exclaim2820 not sure why you think that. Look up the LPDDR5/X parts vs. DDR5 parts. LPDDR5/X is available in higher speeds and only supports soldered installation. This is basic signal integrity stuff - you can't go as fast with longer signal paths. Also the LPDDR5/X parts are lower power and have better thermal characteristics. This is not a money grab - it is just engineering. And yes, allows for lighter / thinner laptops which is also something many companies are targeting because of consumer demand.

    • @JoshCravesTech
      @JoshCravesTech  8 месяцев назад

      @@dakotaconcepcion5398 I would not even consider the Blade 14 in 2024 to be honest. It was a great laptop when it first released a few years ago, but Razer has done nothing to improve it over the years. The G14 is miles ahead now. The Blade doesn't even have Advanced Optimus, so you have to reboot the laptop every time you want to use the mux switch. It's also bigger in all dimensions, heavier, more expensive usually, basic IPS panel, worse keyboard with shallow travel distance, bad speakers. The 140W GPU is also kind of a sham, because they know it will never actually hit 140W on that GPU, it only hits like 100W because it's a 4060/4070 anyway, so they perform about the same. And the G14 always wins in battery life. And software customization is much better on the G14, with a lot more control over fans, battery tweaks, temps, undervolting, etc.

    • @JoshCravesTech
      @JoshCravesTech  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@dakotaconcepcion5398 Yeah, the Blade will win in frame rate and because it's thicker it will likely be a little cooler as well, but as long as the G14 isn't throttling then it should be fine. "Significantly hotter" makes me wonder if you have a defect though, because the temps should be fairly close. You should be seeing like 75-85C on the GPU and 78-90C on the CPU on the G14. And the difference in fps shouldn't be huge either. Maybe 5-10%. Also depends on the resolution you're running at. 1800p is completely unnecessary on the G14 and I don't know why they even went with that resolution. The first thing you should do is turn it down to 1600p in games for more fps and no difference in clarity.

      I totally get that and understand. However, it's quite similar for nearly every major brand, especially dependent on region. I'm glad Asus got called out for the sake of a "wake up" moment that they needed, and hopefully others will follow suit, but I'm also not going to pretend like I don't see the exact same horror stories with warranty/support on EVERY other major laptop brand's subreddit. It's an industry-wide issue that needs to change.
      The best thing you can do as a consumer is buy third-party, like through Best Buy or Micro Center in the U.S. for example, so all repairs/replacement goes through them and you never have to deal with the manufacturer. And of course if an issue arises in the first 30 days or so, return/exchange instead of pursuing a warranty claim!

    I’m a uni undergrad, and my gaming laptop (some old Aftershock model) recently started shutting down abruptly while my game is running. So now I’m looking for an upgrade or alternative gaming laptop, and wanted to see if you have any recommendations aside from the G16! The only game I play is Valorant and I am looking for a laptop that’s ideally lightweight, not too loud, and not too bulky in aesthetics

    • @NightingaleFlorine

      i just did more research and have another curious question. do you personally prefer the Zephyrus 2023 G14, the Zephyrus 2024 G16, or the 2024 G14?

    • @JoshCravesTech
      @JoshCravesTech  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@NightingaleFlorine Hey thanks for watching the video! Glad you enjoyed it. But yeah, all of those are insanely good laptops. If you mostly game on Valorant, then they are all going to be great choices. Another one I'm going to throw in there because you said lightweight and not too loud would be the ROG Flow X16. That one is great for those wanting a little bit lower fan noise and it has a 2-in-1 form factor with touchscreen and upgradeable RAM. That being said, you can manually lower the fan noise of all of these laptops and still have insane performance. If thinness and lightness is your goal, the 2024 G16/G14 are the best choices. At this point, I wouldn't go with the 2023 G14 unless you wanted a 4080/4090 in a 14" laptop, but maybe you do. The new ones are just so much more premium and lightweight. The new G14 would probably be my recommendation for you if you want the most portability and don't mind a 14" display. I know some people find 14" too small for gaming, so the G16 is the next best option.
