Hi Josh! I recently purchased the G14 with the rtx 4060, but I have a problem with advanced optimus. When I select dGPU only in Nvidia Control Panel the screen goes black and never lights up. Pressing Windows+P cycles thourgh Projecting option that way I can get my screen to work, it stays in optimus. Do you have any idea what could cause Advanced Optimus not working? In armoury crate I can select Ultimate mode so only dGPU is active, and it works after reboot.
@@JoshCravesTech I tried it, sadly didn't work. Still when switching to Nvidia GPU only screen goes black and stays black until the action is reverted. I asked Nvidia for help, they said the same thing, perform custom clean install after wiping all drivers. I hope Josh you have some other ideas what might work...
@@simonnagy1 did you ever mess with the “fake” second display in windows display settings at some point? You may need to do a Windows in-place reset. It’s like a Windows reset but without removing your files and apps. Before you do that though, hold the power button for 60 seconds with the laptop on to do a refresh of your drivers. If that doesn’t fix it then do the Windows refresh.
@@JoshCravesTech I tried the driver refresh thing, and again, for half a second it worked, it said "internal display connected to Nvdida Graphics" , but then screen went black again, the same thing happened. It seems like It could work, but some software command stops it after 0.5s. Anyway I will try the windows in-place reset tomorrow se if it helps solve the issue.
My g16 4090 is my favorite laptop I've ever owned, huge fan of the older g15, and the scars, had them all, but this G16 has ticked every box. Trackpad, speakers, screen, battery life (holy shit), gaming performance, portability, I mean damn. This is it. 🎉
@@DanielNieto3733 I owned the 4090 one and it was horrendous for gaming. For everything else, it was top notch. My CPU while gaming was constantly staying between 95-100C. Talked to ASUS support and they said it was normal. I was getting huge frame drops (From 110 to 20 FPS in NFS Unbound) after just 10 minutes of gaming. Read online and found out that this issue was very common in the new G16 laptops. Also read that ASUS' quality control is a joke. Returned it and bought a Lenovo Legion 7 Pro. Never been better.
Couldn't agree more on the RAM options! At this price point, they should come with 32GB, or at least unconventional 24GB. (Damn that laptop speaker music is such a bop!)
@@tico5058 I recommend disabling CPU boost on all modes and try limiting the wattage the cpu uses as well as undervolt it, battery life should be much better. I get about 8-7 hours at 80% charge with mine doing light web browsing and watching YT videos. I haven't tested a full charge yet but it should be around 10-9 hours for the same use case.
@@tico5058 im also just bought a 16gb version and can I asked if changing to Ghelper free more RAM space? and by how much cuz a bunch of asus service and AR running in the background take like 50% of the ram as soon as I open google
Man, I started watching laptop reviews when I had to buy a laptop in February. I bought a g14 2023 4060 then (for a grand on bestbuy). But didn’t stop watching reviews since then for some reason :) Just Josh, canucks, dave2d, Jarrod (sometimes) and you. Gradually I got bored with this topic, but man, I was waiting for your g14 2024 review so bad. There is something both entertaining and inspiring in the videos you do, keep it up, bro. Wish you will start doing it fulltime. P.S. I plan to upgrade to either g14 2024 4070 or the new px13 (hope to see your take on it).
That makes me happy to hear that you find the reviews entertaining. Definitely something I'm trying to do is differentiate myself from your average laptop/tech reviewer so that means a lot! I will definitely try to get my hands on a px13 as well. Thank you!
@@JoshCravesTechDoes the g14 2023 feel like a premium and sturdy monolithic laptop when compared to the g14 2024? Some wrote that the G14 2024 has a very soft lid and bottom. And they concluded that it would be better to have a plastic bottom than such thin metal. The MacBook is much thicker and more durable. By the way, if you have seen the G14 2022-2023 in gray and white - which one looks more premium, especially regarding the prismatic back? I don't have a chance to see them before purchasing. White looks nice, but it seems like it can be a big contrast and distracting when working. Thank you.
@@e0236 it’s definitely a somewhat thinner metal but it still feels very sturdy on the 2024 model. With how lightweight it is though, I’d almost say the 2023 is more “tanky”. Like I’d trust that one to take a fall pretty well because of how thick the magnesium alloy is. Hard to pick though because I really think both are plenty sturdy enough! To me the white looks better but the gray is more “business” if that’s your thing.
@@JoshCravesTech It’s interesting what could be the reason for the fact that for G14 2021-2023 there are a lot of complaints about a cracked case, while for G15/G16 2022/2023 for some reason there are no such complaints at all. Both G14 and G15,16 passed through your hands, did you notice the difference in the quality of the plastic? Perhaps g15/16 feels more durable? On G14 2022/2023, people's cases crack even with loose screws and very gentle handling and in just a week or a month. On G14 it literally produces a huge pile of topics and messages on Reddit. While on G15 and G16 it doesn’t show anything.
@@e0236 I think just in general people travel more with their G14’s so they’re abused more often. That and the G14 is a BIG seller. There are more G14’s sold than G15’s so it seems like you might just see a higher proportion because of that. Otherwise I’ve handled all of those and they’re identical in the quality. You’d have to be handling the laptop pretty recklessly to get a crack in it. People are bad about over-tighten screws too, that’s a big user issue. I’ve taken my G15/G14/G16 everywhere throughout the years and never experienced even a scratch on the chassis. And I’m not even super careful. I put stuff on top of my laptop bag, it falls over in the car, etc. still no damage.
I bought the Lenovo Legion 5 Slim OLED because it was half the price in my location as the G14 with a 4060. Next year, I’ll definitely get a G16 with a 5090 (whenever it’s released in these laptops), but now I’m extremely satisfied with the Legion.
That 1800p is needed for perfect scaling of 200%....Rather than fractional scaling of 150% or 175% which cause images or text to blur in some apps.So The Choice of display is good actually.
Wouldn't 200% need to be 4K? Or am I missing something? 1080 * 2 = 2160p. Also idk if it's just me but I haven't experienced scaling issues on Windows in years personally. Not something I look into much so maybe it's still a thing.
In this display's case the efective resolution we are getting is 1440x900 but multiplied by 2=2880*1800...this achieves perfect scaling without blurring/missing pixel edges, kinda like how apple does to it's retina displays. It's much more clearer than fractional scaling. We can always play in lower resolution to increase FPS,but this is just more important for productivity apps.
4050 NVDIA g14 white 32 gb 2024 for 2.2k ....best decision i made...remove armory and myasus then install ghelper, remove all the bloaters program ...now its performing really well and probably the best laptop i ever bought in my life so far
I would recommend that anyone looking to buy one go to a store and get some hands on time. I was convinced I'd want one (Zeph G16) from all the reviews, however, I found the build quality, the touch and feel of the device very 'consumer grade', if I can put it that way. Coming from a Dell Precision 7740 and a Surface 5 Pro, I found it very cheap feeling compared to those, let alone a Macbook. Not saying its a technically bad device, but it doesn't feel as premium as it looks in the review videos. Maybe that's not important to you at that price point, but for some it is, so do yourself a favour and go have a look in person 🙂
@rasundesilva6088 Still haven't made a choice yet. Busy evaluating the Snapdragon laptops for compatibility, the G16 with the AMD CPU is also an option. Tough time to make a choice.
@@JustifyJustinFunny you say that, I was looking at the G14/G16 coming from a surface 7 pro from 2019. The ASUS laptops seem better performance wise and a little cheaper than the new surface with snapdragon would have costed me in the spec I want. Let me know if you do find anything.

Honestly just stumbled across this video by accident and having the 2024 G16 myself, I absolutely loved this video. You did your research, you followed up on previous issues that were fixed and you talked about things that most reviewers don't talk about, but matter to the end user. I also really liked how you put other reviewers concerns about GPU TDP, fan noise and temps in persepctive and explained it in a way that was easy to understand. Kepp it up dude, really good job!
I found a G14 2023 (4060, IPS Display, 16GB RAM) on sale for 600$ less than normal price. Are the differences between the 2023 and 2024 models so great I should not take up this deal and wait for a sale on the 2024 models? (I wouldn't use any external displays and / or headphones, so display and speakers might matter) Thanks in advance for the input!
@@IbpInvestigator2 so the 2023 model was $600 less than the equivalent 2024? I mean that’s too good of a deal. I probably wouldn’t consider the 2024 at that point unless you happened to find one super discounted
I also thought so, as the chances of coming across such a sale, regardless of waiting time, might not be optimal. In the meantime it arrived and I also tested a 2024 version in a showroom, and frankly, I don't think the differences are worth enough for the price increase (considering the deal). Thank you for the opinion and help!
I previously bought the G16 Intel ultra 4090 and had it for a week. The FPS in the games I play were greatly held back by the cpu. I returned it and purchased a G14 instead. I was very pleased to have found the exact same FPS on the AMD 4070 G14. For half the price, more portability and in my opinion a better looking laptop. The G16 speaker grills were too large and I would rather have a num pad on the G16. $2900 vs $1700. Haven’t seen a difference and I love the G14. Just wish it had 240W usb charging and oculink. Hopefully next year will have 240w usb charging and thunderbolt 5, replacing the need for oculink.
Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 seem to be absolute home runs, I can't remember the last time I saw so much positivity across the board surround windows laptops.
Damn bro this is probably the best review for any laptop ive seen. Ive been in shambles for a week now deciding what to get for college cuz its so sleek and good looking. you’ve honestly pushed me to get the G14/16, leaning more towards the 14 just because my experience with AMD has been pretty good.
I watched your G16 video and it helped me pull the trigger on an open box 2024 G14 1TB yesterday. However, I'm coming from a MBP from 2012 and have gotten really used to the Macbook feel. I travel a lot and would game occasionally on it since I have a 3080 desktop at home. Do you have any experience running games on the newer MBP via Crossover, Whiskey, etc? Your reviews are so well done! I can see your channel growing to 100k+ subscribers in no time!
this year I went from a Legion 5i with and I510300H and a 2060, and I bought the G14 (2023) 7940HS with a 4060, and oh my god, it may not be a 4070 or 4080 (honestly don't really need that kind of GPU), but my god this thing performance as a beast plugged in, and quiet, and chill when unplugged. I love this laptop so much, and when it comes time to upgrade, let's hope 5 years down the line, I know I'm just sticking with this G-line of laptops.
You earned a Like for the Ableton testing. Much appreciated. Can you comment on RAM usage in the test? I'm thinking of going with the G14, but concerned that I would have to pay more for add'l RAM since it's not upgradable. :(
A great comparison! What about quality control issues? Some reviewers pointed out wobbly touchpad with unsatisfying clicks on G16. In these thin high-performance laptops, I would also like to see the battery temperature under load, which decreases the longevity of the battery, and the SSD temperature under load, which may cause throttling.
I will consider adding those things in the future! But yes, qc issues seem to be sort of rare, but the most common one is definitely the trackpad on the G16. I have seen quite a few people now with the weird click like what mine had :(
Asus or Legion. There really is no other choice. Both excellent. I've always ended up with a Legion. But the Asus G & Flow series is phenomenal. I'll likely go Asus for my next one. Just for a change. You really can't go wrong with either brand.
What are your thoughts on the upcoming AMD variant of the G16 that’s dropping soon? What use case could you see that being a good choice over the G14 or G16 Intel variant?
If it has better battery life then it may be worthwhile, or significantly improved performance. I personally think it'll be maybe 10-15% more powerful than the Intel Core Ultra and I'm not sure how it's going to do with battery life. It might even be worse with it having more cores now, but we'll see! It's supposed to release around July 15th.
best review of these laptoops by far! still undecided between the last year's 4090 g14 or the 2024 4070 g14 - any thoughts on which would ideally be the most value?
@@tamxo2451 most future proof would definitely be the 4090 G14, but go for the new G14 if you don’t care about fps as much and just want luxury thinness, speakers, and metal body. I’m still daily driving the 4090 G14 personally though, it’s just so powerful and I’d miss having all that.
Hi Josh, I really love your reviews. Is it possible for you to compare the G14s (23 and 24) against a macbook air/pro? I know macbook's battery is unmatched but I'm really interested in knowing how close can the G14 get to a macbook experience once it's been thoroughly optimized through the G-helper. p.s absolutely love the gifs you throw in your reviews
I am following you from Iraq, from the capital, Baghdad .. I am confused between Zephyrus G14 2024 with Ryzen 9-8945HS, 4060 RTX, 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD for $1533 .. and between Zephyrus G16 2024 with Intel Core Ultra 9 185H, 4060 RTX, 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD for $2166 .. What do you think of both deals and which one do you recommend to me ? Just for the record, I don't play games I want it for programming, video editing, design, and productivity in general.
Yeah I'm genuinely curious where they'll go with this now. For the first year with this design they knocked it out of the park. Very excited for what 2025 holds!
I have the 2023 G14 with the 4070. I found that enabling dGPU only mode through nvidia control panel gave me way more power (sustained) to the gpu, while lowering cpu a tad. I got 13,000 on time spy for graphics and 11,402 for cpu
@@Parky-pm2sg the Duo is also good, it’s just in a different class of laptop. It’s quite a bit thicker and heavier than these. I think it only comes with a Ryzen HX CPU as well and those have some of the worst battery life of all laptops out there, lol 😂 But performance is out of this world on that thing!
Tough choice! It's about 10-15% more performance between the 4060 and 4070. However, you can get an open box excellent 4060 for just a little over $900 and that is just an insane deal.
@@jay.jay.1 depends on your budget and situation. Doesn’t really make much sense as far as performance since they’ll be about the same. But if you’re cool with paying a bit more to get upgraded chassis, speakers, display, etc. then sure!
@@directorz236 I think as long as you take precautions for basic OLED care then you can probably go through the whole life of the laptop without experiencing burn-in. They use an S-stripe subpixel layout, which is the best for preventing burn-in. Obviously I can’t guarantee it won’t happen, but it’s certainly one of the better panels.

I like your videos. They are well researched and edited very well. However, the little chuckle/vocal fry that you apply to every other sentence can get to be quite annoying and grating to the senses. Try to work on your delivery and eliminate that vocal strain/chuckle.
Awesome review as usual Josh! I feel the G16 4090 is better than 2023 g14 in almost everything: - Thinner laptop - Bigger screen while weight increase by only 200 grams !!! - Fan noise and thermals - Better battery - Oled screen - Better chasis and design - Larger touchpad the 2023 is better for the RAM and a negligible fraction of FPS, and smaller chassis in XY dimensions naturally. I feel kinda bad I didn't wait for the 2024 G16.
@@iKaBoZ820 I can totally get that! It’s really hard to say which one I like more. I think if I didn’t already have the G14 I’d probably go for the G16. VERY interested to see what they do next year
@@JoshCravesTech me too I think they set the bar so high, and this is a great thing! The g16 is exactly the perfect laptop that was in my dreams so many years ago. The g14 is still awesome and since most deep work/gaming I do over an ultrawide monitor, i don’t feel so bad about the screen being a little small.
@@animenerd8633 so since Intel has a much lower base clock (like 1.5 GHz or something), disabling boost makes it run at a crawl. In some games that don’t rely on CPU that might be fine but in others you might experience some serious hangups. For Intel Core Ultra it’s much better to just limit your CPU to like 12-15W instead if you’re trying to lower temps. And for the HX chips around 25-30W is pretty okay.
Hey man, great video, I bought a 4060 16gig g14 2024 model and I'm in love with it. I also installed G helper as per your video coz armoury create sucked. I know this sounds like an absolute headache of a request but would it be possible for you to leave your G helper profile settings in comments? I could not find any guides online (not ones that made sense to me anyway) and I really just want 2 modes. 1) for ultra battery saving where it's just light office work. 2) for plugged in maximum gaming performance. I'm asking because I've tried to fiddle with the settings more times than I can count and usually land up either not seeing any difference or I brick the damn thing.
visual mode set between 70-50%, disable cpu boost or set it to enabled efficient, limit the cpu wattage to 28w, optimized in gpu options, auto in refresh rate, disable slash and keyboard lighting on battery, that will get you around 10 to 12 hours of battery life depending on how much you push it
Sort of a tough one to answer cause it's hard to give a "one-size-fits-all" profile for those, but I definitely suggest watching my G-Helper video to get a better understanding! However this is my basic suggestion, at least a starting point. 1. Battery saving: - Silent/Eco mode - CPU boost disabled - 60Hz - Brightness below half, keyboard lights off or low - Leave CPU power limits checkbox UNCHECKED - Leave fan checkbox UNCHECKED on GPU tab, move GPU power slider and dynamic boost slider all the way down. Overclock set to 0 on both. - Advanced tab - set an undervolt of around -15. 2. Max Performance - Start with Turbo and make a new profile - Leave CPU power limits checkbox UNCHECKED (unless you have a desired CPU level to reach) - Check fans checkbox and set fans to max or a little higher than the stock turbo mode - GPU tab: set overclock to +150 / +200 - Slide GPU power tab and dynamic boost all the way right - Advanced tab - set undervolt of -15 again, or -20 and beyond if things don't crash Don't touch core clock limit or temp limit unless you know what you're doing it for. Most people don't need to touch the CPU sliders either unless again you know what you're doing it for. I see a lot of people mess up a lot by clicking that "apply power limits" checkbox without knowing why they did it. Hope this helps!
@@JoshCravesTech hi Josh, this is exactly what I needed , thank you so much man! I always fiddled with the CPU power limits as per your g helper video. Would it be recommended to just leave it then? Are the default power limit settings enough to limit power consumption in battery saver mode / silent mode. On the undervolting front that was what I wanted to know most so thanks for the advice on that. Will stick to -15 undervolt. Please keep up the amazing work on your videos, well edited, not too cumbersome on details that make them boring yet thorough enough to keep me informed, and ultimately just fun to watch! :)
4080 all day. I personally don't think the new AMD G16 will be all that impressive. I will be genuinely surprised if it excels in battery or performance, but I think it'll be around the same as the Intel Core Ultra.
I think they didn't give any config options this time because it is last year's GPU. Hoping they have better plans for 2025. 2023 Model of G 14 was actually really good but then again because of Nvidia they didn't get the pricing right in some regions. Now will they choose AMD again for next year? Let's see. In the US the maxed out version of G 14 (2024) costs $ 2000. In my country a 16GB RTX 4060 G 14 (2024) costs $ 2100. That's just something most people will not spend on.

I love my 2023 g16, I do wish it had the oled screen that the new ones have. But It stays amazingly cool when without a cooling pad compared what I’ve heard about the 2024 models.
Love your video man, Its great. I am stuck between G16 and the strix scar 16 2024 model in terms of display, The new scar has over 2000 dimming zones. Is there a visible image quality difference between an oled and a mini led ? What do you recommend overall bro, I really need to make a decision. Thanks.
Yeah that's a tough one! Those are two VERY different laptops in terms of performance and thickness/battery. The mini-LED will of course be brighter and I've heard the 2,000 dimming zones has made blooming even more hard to notice. Some people have told me they don't really see it at all. So for brightness the Scar wins. The OLED will still always have more "perfect" contrast in comparison, but just won't be nearly as bright. And of course the G16 is a much thinner and lighter laptop with good battery life, while the Scar is a thicc powerhouse with lower battery life.

Hey Josh honest question: with the discount right now on best buy, would you go with the G14 4060 16gb or G14 4070 32gb? @@DaewooJeong-h2n I would go for G14 4070 32GB! More RAM, better GPU. Even at 90W, the 4070 will perform a little better. And it will do great as a home PC!
Will you be doing a full review of the 2024 G14 4070? I’m on the fence between that one or the 2023 G14 4080… not sure the OLED will make the difference for the lost gaming performance 🤔

@@JoshCravesTech I think I’ll end up with the 2024 model simply due to it being a more premium product. I can always play games at a lower resolution as you recommend. Things are so skewed here in Canada. We import these from the US so with exchange rates, we should be paying 35-40% more, but we are paying over double the price and i dont know why! The G16 with a 4070 and 32 GB (yes, we get that option) is $2,999. The 4080 is $3,999. And we dont get any RGB keyboard options which really annoys me. Hi Great review. But I'm sensitive to screen flicker. I've heard the OLED has PWM under 60%. But uses DC dimming above 60%. I'm unfamiliar with that technology, could you plesase explain, it would be a big help. Thank you
Oh shoot I keep forgetting to mention DC dimming. Thanks to G-Helper, you can use DC dimming all the way to 0%! It uses software brightness/gamma settings to reduce the brightness of the display instead of relying on PWM. So the only downside is that below 60% you might not get the most "accurate" gamma, but the tradeoff is probably worth it to not experience PWM.
@@JoshCravesTech Thank you. It would be great if in future you metioned it in your great reviews. PWM effects more and more people these days, so it would be a big help.
Thanks for the super clear review! I'm going to buy the G16 16" 2024 and it comes in 2 colors as you mentioned (Eclipse Grey OR Platinum White). I was wondering which one is more durable? I mean if I want to sell it in a year or 2, is it going to show hand/finger wear ? (So the question is : What is the natural aluminium material color closer to?) Thanks :)
I was strongly considering the Yoga Pro 9i before, but after seeing so many reports and real-life reviews stating its battery life still leaves much to be desired with the same specs, I started to strongly consider something else. I haven't had a gaming laptop since an MSI GS with a 970 back in the day, and am still leery about OLED, but I think this laptop will really fit all of my needs: battery life for schooling, multi-tasking specs for how I use computers, and gaming specs for on-the-go gaming (and as a temporary stand-in if my desktop keels over before I can build a new one.) I do wish it was able to be optioned up to 64GB of RAM since it's soldered, it's quite odd that they aren't able to offer that when others of the same size can, and hiding 32GB behind an upgraded GPU many may not want is not the play (that's more of a Razer or Apple thing to do.)
It's a very Razer/Apple move to make people upgrade their GPU to get more RAM. And I love that they only did it in some regions like the US. Unless you're cool with waiting for the AMD model to release in a couple weeks. But yeah I'm glad someone understands my sentiment with the Yoga. I was even strongly considering it for myself until I did (way too much) research on what actual users were experiencing and saw the same stuff. Even chatted with a couple owners who ended up returning theirs. It's just really hard to beat the G16 right now. One thing I recommend is sticking to the Asus-provided drivers, at least for the Intel graphics for best battery life. Newer drivers seem to all affect battery in some way.
@JoshCravesTech I'll be honest, the AMD model G16 draws no interest for me. I'm honestly not even happy to be getting the Core Ultra chips with their NPUs, but at least they're not completely all in on AI/Co-Pilot Recall BS yet, unlike the AMD AI 9 HX 370 almost certainly will be. It's the same reason I have absolutely 0 personal interest in buying any of the new SnapDragon Elite X laptops and their Microsoft-sponsored spyware. They could be absolutely perfect laptops in every way for my needs and I still wouldn't. I was excited for the new Yoga, which did make some much needed improvements in terms of the port selection (last years Slim Pro 9i 16" was a joke, considering the 14" had better ports, which is why they killed it off), but has been a disappointment otherwise. It has a great screen and webcam, but nothing else really on offer. As expensive as the G16 will be here in Canada, if it fits almost all of my checkboxes, it's worth the cost.
@@sjewkes1 Yeah this AI marketing fluff is getting out of hand, lol. I'm also not super interested in the AMD model. I have a hard time believing that it's going to be a huge improvement anyways. More cores/threads is great to see for AMD on laptops, but I don't think it's gonna be a game changer.
@@JoshCravesTechIt is deeply concerning how much of it is making its way into desktop hardware as well, but we'll have to see how long that bid lasts given the average users feelings on or usage of AI. I'm honestly shocked with how well-rounded the Intel version is, given how badly Intel has been doing in the last 10 years, but their Core Ultra lineup is surprisingly competent thus far for laptops. I'll probably end up snagging an AMD model of something smaller with mini-LED for maximum portability, longevity, and battery life as a travel device, but based on reviews the G16 is shaping up to be what I'd hoped the Yoga was, albeit with an OLED. Its webcam and screen brightness seem to leave something to be desired but these are minor items really.
Been hearing a lot of talk about the 4060 and 4070 G16 configurations having issues with a high-pitched whine from the third fan as opposed to the vapor chamber in higher configurations. Personally, I don't need a 4080/4090 nor do I have the budget. Otherwise the G16 seems like the perfect laptop! Do you think this issue is overhyped, or should those of us who dont have the money for the 4080 look elsewhere for a new laptop?
@@0TheoreticalPhysics0 the issue is overhyped for sure. There is definitely a chance you could have a whiney third fan but it doesn’t seem to affect the majority of laptops. A lot of people have also said that recent bios updates fixed the fan noise a lot. I’m assuming Asus re-tuned these particular G16’s so that the third fan stays the lowest in RPM’s.
just grabbed the g14 4070, ryzen9, 32gb ram for 1600, thinking it out for the g16 4070, 16gb ram, ryzen 9 just want a bigger screen mainly for gaming. cant go wrong for either. This laptop is so premium loving g16 is 1700. where they dropped the ball is the res. i feel like the g16 should have the 3k res while the g14 should have the 2.5 res. Is what it is. Great laptops none the less, you cant go wrong.
Yeah it's weird that the G14 had the higher res of the two. Just panel choices were slim I guess. Hopefully there are more options in the coming years as OLED gets better
I am thinking of buying a laptop but confesed between asus rog zephyrus G16 2024 with ultra 9 and 32 gb with 4070 vs asus rog strix G16 2024 with i9-14th with 4070 and 32 gb ram. One more think do you also think that rog strix laptop doesn't have a optimised graphics card and thermals.
Two VERY different laptops! The Zephyrus is all about portability, battery life, and being extremely premium (CNC aluminum, super thin and light), while the Strix G16 is more about raw power. The GPU's will perform about the same, but the G16's CPU has much more power to it, so in CPU-bound games like Counterstrike, Valorant, or Fortnite that might prove to be useful. The Strix will run a little bit cooler too because of how thick it is. Personally I'd get the Zephyrus though because the Strix only makes sense with a 4080/4090 GPU to me, where it can really stretch its legs.

@@simonnagy1 Try installing DDU to completely remove your Nvidia graphics driver and then clean install the latest one directly from Nvidia

Nice! That is also a great laptop. G16 with a 5090 is gonna go crazy though 100%.

Awesome review as usual Josh! I feel the G16 4090 is better than 2023 g14 in almost everything:
- Thinner laptop
- Bigger screen while weight increase by only 200 grams !!!
- Fan noise and thermals
- Better battery
- Oled screen
- Better chasis and design
- Larger touchpad
the 2023 is better for the RAM and a negligible fraction of FPS, and smaller chassis in XY dimensions naturally.

wait.... quick question? on the 2024 g16 are you not able to disable turbo mode to lower the temps?
@@animenerd8633 so since Intel has a much lower base clock (like 1.5 GHz or something), disabling boost makes it run at a crawl. In some games that don’t rely on CPU that might be fine but in others you might experience some serious hangups. For Intel Core Ultra it’s much better to just limit your CPU to like 12-15W instead if you’re trying to lower temps. And for the HX chips around 25-30W is pretty okay.
@@JoshCravesTech sweet, thanks man!
Как думаете, что лучше? Купить сейчас g16 на RTX 4090 или ждать, пока не выйдет что-нибудь на 5090 в следующем году?
Up
visual mode set between 70-50%, disable cpu boost or set it to enabled efficient, limit the cpu wattage to 28w, optimized in gpu options, auto in refresh rate, disable slash and keyboard lighting on battery, that will get you around 10 to 12 hours of battery life depending on how much you push it
Sort of a tough one to answer cause it's hard to give a "one-size-fits-all" profile for those, but I definitely suggest watching my G-Helper video to get a better understanding! However this is my basic suggestion, at least a starting point.
1. Battery saving:
- Silent/Eco mode
- CPU boost disabled
- 60Hz
- Brightness below half, keyboard lights off or low
- Leave CPU power limits checkbox UNCHECKED
- Leave fan checkbox UNCHECKED
on GPU tab, move GPU power slider and dynamic boost slider all the way down. Overclock set to 0 on both.
- Advanced tab - set an undervolt of around -15.
2. Max Performance
- Start with Turbo and make a new profile
- Leave CPU power limits checkbox UNCHECKED (unless you have a desired CPU level to reach)
- Check fans checkbox and set fans to max or a little higher than the stock turbo mode
- GPU tab: set overclock to +150 / +200
- Slide GPU power tab and dynamic boost all the way right
- Advanced tab - set undervolt of -15 again, or -20 and beyond if things don't crash
Don't touch core clock limit or temp limit unless you know what you're doing it for. Most people don't need to touch the CPU sliders either unless again you know what you're doing it for. I see a lot of people mess up a lot by clicking that "apply power limits" checkbox without knowing why they did it. Hope this helps!
@@camilopa372 holy moly 10 to 12 hours? okay so will definitely apply those settings to the battery saver option. Thanks so much!

Appreciate it man,

@@jamesalmond4301 this is what I’m considering the review since almost everything is identical to the G16 other than performance and some little details. I’d recommend the 4080 G14 though personally if you want performance that you’ll feel comfortable with for years. The new one is great ONLY if you’re cool with the 4070. Things are so skewed here in Canada. We import these from the US so with exchange rates, we should be paying 35-40% more, but we are paying over double the price and i dont know why! Hi
Great review.
@@jedi55 yeah I will definitely be mentioning it in the next review when I get the AMD model!

I was strongly considering the Yoga Pro 9i before, but after seeing so many reports and real-life reviews stating its battery life still leaves much to be desired with the same specs, I started to strongly consider something else. I haven't had a gaming laptop since an MSI GS with a 970 back in the day, and am still leery about OLED, but I think this laptop will really fit all of my needs: battery life for schooling, multi-tasking specs for how I use computers, and gaming specs for on-the-go gaming (and as a temporary stand-in if my desktop keels over before I can build a new one.)
I do wish it was able to be optioned up to 64GB of RAM since it's soldered, it's quite odd that they aren't able to offer that when others of the same size can, and hiding 32GB behind an upgraded GPU many may not want is not the play (that's more of a Razer or Apple thing to do.)
