  • The Nintendo Switch lets you use GameCube controllers with pretty much anything for some reason. If you've ever wondered what actually works with a GameCube controller, wonder no more, for this video contains the answers to all of your questions maybe
This video took way longer to come out than it should have and I'm sorry.

It sounds like there are a number of other games that fully support and recognize GameCube controllers. I probably should have done more research when making this video, but I appreciate people sharing some more examples. I'll list them in this pinned comment:
    - Grid Autosport (as noted by @archedmash2)
    - Trials Rising (as noted by @SageroniPasta)
    - Rivals of Aether (as noted by @SageroniPasta)

4:39 don't forget prime remastered. Though they flipped the x and Y buttons from the original and failed to give the ZR its original purpose which was to open the map... start opens map instead and X goes into morph ball... when Y used to be morph ball. I am not 100% sure exactly WHAT does what... but I know it does recognize the controller. It's just not 100% accurate.

Grid Autosport has full GameCube controller support up to enabling analog acceleration and braking with the GameCube triggers, and separate control customization menus for the pro controller and GameCube controller. Enabling GameCube controller support in order to allow the genre of stimulation racing to exist on the console has to be worth something. It has to go in S tier.

That's really interesting. If I knew about it beforehand, I definitely would have put it in S tier. It's a little odd that Grid Autosport of all games is one of the only games to support the GameCube controller in full, but it's still really cool. Thanks for sharing that.

Given the lack of buttons I'm surprised the GameCube controller did as well as it did. I'm definitely interested in a version of this for the N64 switch controller.

The channel "My Life in Gaming" already did a video on that topic.

I tried this feature when it launched, but as the video shows, it requires too many compromises.
I ended up getting this controller that's shaped exactly like a GCN controller but wireless and with the missing Switch buttons. I use it for pretty much every 3D game.

I'm not sure if a gamecube controller would with superstars because you need to press the plus or minus button to start minigames.

The GameCube controller has a start button, so that’s not a problem.

I have a SNES to GC adapter, so I used it with the gamecube adapter to play Super Mario Bros. Wonder. It was an awesome experience

one thing about the mario kart 64, you can actually use items, the game allows you to use C-down to do that as an alternative to the Z button, so it might be completly playable aside from not being able to return to the nso menu.

Wow. I've been playing Mario Kart 64 for most of my life and I never knew about that somehow. That's very cool.

I have some more games I tested with a GameCube controller, and I'll rank them.
    Kirby Star Allies: A
    Miitopia: A
    Mario Tennis Aces: A
    Yoshi's Crafted World: A
Cave Story+: A (You can't open the map without a minus button, but you can open the map by pressing X, then selecting the map, and it will open.)
    Mario vs. Donkey Kong: B
(You can't delete your save file without the minus button, but it's rarely needed anyway.)
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe: D (There are two required levels where you need to tilt the controller to move platforms)
Animal Crossing: New Horizons: F (You access your phone by pressing ZL, and you save your game by pressing minus.)
South Park: The Stick of Truth: Depends (If you don't have a GBros Adapter, expect this game to be in F tier. You have to use the ZL button to shrink, shoot, command a partner, et al. They are required actions, and there is no other way to do so. If you have a GBros Adapter, you can switch the L and R buttons to ZL and ZR Buttons by pressing L, R, A, B and Start. However, The L button is required to switch the actions. So you must either alternate buttons, or map one of the d-pad buttons to the L button. The D-pad buttons access menus, but they are not seperate menus. With a GBros Adapter, I'd give it a B tier.)
