  • Raging Bull dominates the skyline of Six Flags Great America. This was one of the first Bolliger & Mabillard hyper coasters. And it's also one of the most unique. Instead of having the traditional out-and-back layout, this mega coaster has a twister layout. Just make sure to ride it in the back!

      Great America is pretty tight on space so that’s the reason for that. This ride will never be the most groundbreaking ride ever but it is pure fun and has some great moments. Not to mention it’s just a stunning ride.

    Former Ride op/ Lead here I basically rode this daily in the mornings for test rides, it's such a bizarre feeling as the train barely makes it through the course as that L turn becomes a strange element where you just rest against the side of the bucket seat creating something I'd call lateral hangtime. I've ridden this ride more than any other coaster and is my personal fav just for becoming so intimate with it's ride course. (You just find that connection with rides you ride constantly)
    You are also right about the operational efficiency of the ride. The ride management demand this ride to be open and run all 3 trains whenever possible though that snowstorm is hilarious and surprising considering this ride has valleyed before on a cold windy morning during maintenance inspections. As a side note the main reason this ride goes down is due to the guests puking especially on hot days. Meeting dispatch is incredibly easy with two trains and I used to make a game with my crew to beat 3 train interval. There has been only one time I've ever ran this ride with 1 train and it was absolute torture for everyone including the crew.
    Just wanted to add this information from a shadow viewer. Thanks for the content.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  2 года назад

      Thanks for the information! Nitro has similar efficiency. The only time I've ever seen that ride run one train was on a really cold, windy day when it was even more of a valley risk than usual.

    Here we go. It's this or Goliath that's the park best, it just switches back and forth for me. That seat in the back is one of the best experiences in existence. If the very back row has an extra 5 or even 10 minute wait, I'd wait those extra minutes, even if the second to back has no line, it's worth an extra 5 minute wait for another row back cause it's that good. This ride had a special spot for me, it's not your traditional hyper. It may not have the camelback after camelback, but it focuses on pure pops of insane ejector. That first drop in the back is more than fantastic and the drop off the mid corse is almost as good and just as unexpected. The ride goes on forever, my arms were tired from keeping them up cause hoe long and fun this ride is. Definitely one of the most underated coasters in existence. Another thing I love about it is the intense positive G forces on the helixes at the end, something few hypers have. I definitely think you got a slower ride, I was pure ejector on those moments and even the first half elements were still floaty and fun even if they did nothing, I'd give it a 8.5 at the least.

    That trim on the camelback used to barely hit, or not hit at all. Same with the brakes on the mid course. I'm guessing they turned them up/on to reduce stress on the trains, supports, and track. Before they turned those up the front was arguably the best. The whole train just tore through the course. Of course I could totally be wrong if you go watch a early 2000's POV. I swear both brake sections used to never hinder the momentum at all though..at least it felt like it.

    and sometimes there would be no one at all in the back-row lane. Marathoned the ride, and actually enjoyed it a bit more than Goliath.

      The only reason the trim wouldn’t have engaged is because the train wasn’t traveling fast enough. So if you’re on any coaster and a trim doesn’t engage then you’re not going full speed. I also wish the budget wouldn’t have been cut at the last minute for the theming. Originally there was supposed to be barns that the train would travel through at the end in that helix. That would have been really cool!

  • @colinf2316
    @colinf2316 Год назад

    I was 9 when Raging Bull first opened and it was my first "big" coaster, so it holds a sweet spot in my heart. That being said, I wish it could get an overhaul or some TLC. Remove the trim after the turn around and open up the MCBR to no or minimal braking. After the MCBR was pretty nuts opening year, they barely trimmed it. It isn't bad by any means, but it definitely meanders around the course compared to the first couple years it was open. Capacity is great and the crew always did well. The layout is definitely unique, and I wish B&M did more twister layouts with their hypers.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  Год назад

      That sounds awesome in the opening year! I don't think we'll see that trim leave considering it doesn't seem to have valleying issues and it's highly popular.

  • @josephqualtier961

    This will always be an awesome ride. I think it’s more fun than some other hypers by b&m because it doesn’t just do a bunch of hills then turn around and do a bunch of hills, it’s got some variety. Even though the elements aren’t super punchy it’s a veryyy long ride and just enjoyable and super rerideable.

    I've been on all of the US B&M Hypers. For me I tier them this way:
    Mako is the best one. Candymonium is just a little bit behind Mako. Then the next tier down you have Diamondback and Goliath (SFOG). Both are great rides and I need to get back to SFOG because it has been a few years. Then you have a drop to the next tier of Intimidator and Apollo's Chariot. AC has a great setting but the ride lacks a little bit. Intimidator is great if you can eliminate those trims. But the trims hit the majority of the time. The bottom tier is Nitro and Raging Bull. Raging Bull should be ridden in the back but I still feel it is the weakest B&M Hyper overall.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  2 года назад

      I think Mako, Candy, and Goliath (SFOG) are the top 3 in America. I put Raging Bull at the bottom, but it's still good.

    I still find myself comparing Makos back row first drop versus Raging Bull back row first drop. Great America was my home park growing up. I rode Iron Wolf and Batman when they first opened. Also Raging Bull,in its early years. But I haven't been ejected out of my seat as much as on,Mako back row from,what I remember. My brother just rode Mako first time and he's a season pass holder at Great America so he has a better recent memory and he was floored by Mako compared. So don't really know.

    I remember riding this in the front back in 2017, when I didn't know much about coasters, and I found the ride so boring. In 2019, I think every ride was in the back 2 rows (I did 2nd to last so that I could stay on the train 3 straight times at the end of the night). It is my favorite first drop on any B&M hyper. Overall, it's my least favorite B&M hyper, but not too far behind a couple others.

    I understand that a ride needs to be balanced but RB in the very back to me is better than Tennessee Tornado which you gave a higher rating to. Don't get me wrong, I love TT and it's in the top 3 Arrows of all time (the other 2 being the sadly defunct Eagle's fortress and happily their still running shuttle loops). But it's short (super sweet, admittedly) and Raging Bull in the back is just so much fun. Granted I haven't ridden RB since 2010 I think it was so maybe it's changed for the worse, but I was laughing the whole way. I ONLY had back seat rides though, around 8 of them. It's the same thing with Apollo's Chariot.. In the back seat it's one of my favourite rides - I think the crest at the top of the lift has a lot to do with it, B&M ditched this on their hypers after RB, but it makes the first drop so much better as you get whipped down. Anyway my 2C, but I do get it also, any other seat is just meh so giving it a higher rating is hard too.

    Canobie Coaster would say: The crew was dispatching trains so quickly that there were several points when the crew was actually just standing around waiting for a train to return. That's how quickly they getting them out. The efficiency of this crew was reminiscent of another B&M hyper in Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure. The trim kills the ride. It’s a shame because it has the most unique B&M hyper layout. Worst hyper I’ve been on.

    This is the review where I disagree with you the most. I made a point to ride Raging Bull in the middle car the 1st time since being on a Sunday I thought I could get the most re rides on it as a single rider. I was surprised to find airtime in the middle car during drop elements most coasters wouldn't be able to provide in the back row, especially the 4th drop (the large twisted drop after the camelback after the 1st turnaround.) That only got better the further back in the train one rides, so I cannot disagree that the back of Raging Bull isn't the best row, I wouldn't say it's "back or bust". but I would agree with you that Raging Bull is best in the back car.
    But Raging Bull is MUCH better than Goliath at SFMM. At least this way I know that you're an individual human being here and not a bot, but at what cost? How can you actually believe Goliath at SFMM is better than Raging Bull? I like Raging Bull better than Leviathan and Nitro! IF it makes you feel any better: I don't like Raging Bull better than Behemoth, although I do realize you prefer Leviathan to Behemoth. I hope you don't think I'm insane for my opinions. Thanks for your Raging Bull Review.

      I'll definitely take Raging Bull over Goliath and Titan. My rides in the front half of the train weren't all that strong, but I'm glad you got some good ones towards the middle.

      @@CanobieCoaster I saw your Superman review and remembered this and decided to comment but hadn't seen it in awhile since I'd ridden R.B. since I'd seen this review, but I've just not seen the review since, so I'd better see it againI'll watch it this evening. But yeah, I was surprised how good R.B. was while riding it. Seven good airtime moment in the back, a long ride and twister section make this easily my favourite in the park.

      @@CanobieCoaster This coaster is only good in the 5 most back rows out of 9. What's interesting about Raging Bull is that usually coasters are best in the very front and very back cars, but I found Raging Bull to just be better the further back one rides, which means the middle of Raging Bull is is actually better than the front; something that is rare in most roller coasters, especially if they feature long trains. (The chances of the middle car of any coaster being my favourite car is extremely rare for me; the only one I can think of is Maverick. but unlike Raging Bull: Maverick's trains are short.) In any case: even if I prefer the middle car of Raging bull to the front car: my favourite car on Raging Bull is the back car.
      Also: Raging Bull was only operating two trains during the multiple days I visited while Nitro at SFG Adventure in NJ (where I'd just come from) was running three during the same time. Each of those B&M hyper coasters both provided the best operations in their respective parks, but while Nitro ran three trains: Raging Bull only ran two. In fact: SFG America didn't have any more than 2 train ops on ANY if it's coasters when I visited June 5-9th 2022.
      Luckily for me: I had no problem marathoning Raging Bull the 1st day I was there. I rode it 1st and thought I ought to stay there and try marathoning R.B since not only was I a single rider but I'd figured that being a Sunday it'd be much busier that day than it would be over the next four days I was there, so I figured that was the best time to Marathon R.B. due to it having the highest capacity throughput of any attraction in the park.
      That resulted in me getting 50 rides of Raging Bull in about 3 hours during that 1st day I arrived at SFG America on Sunday June 5th 2022. After riding a roller coaster 50 times in a row 1st during the same day I was 1st being introduced to it: I felt as though I may have overdone it a bit, but I have no regrets since I think Raging Bull is the best coaster at SFG America. Behemoth is the only B&M hyper I've ridden that I prefer Raging Bull to, including Leviathan. However: no seatbelts on B&M hypers at Six Flags parks is also a bonus: even more for operations than quality of the ride itself imo. But Cedar Fair still can dispatch coasters as quickly as they'd be able to be if they didn't have to deal with seatbelts, so Cedar Fair is worthy even if they use seatbelts (which I cannot say about Coaster at Playland in Vancouver in 2022).
      Most coaster enthusiasts prefer Cedar Fair to Six Flags despite the fact that Six Flags is more lenient with their restraints; not requiring seatbelts that Cedar Fair does. I guess that must just mean that Cedar Fair's coasters are generally just that much better than Six Flags's coasters on average. Either that or there are too many GP people scared of not being stapled on every part of their body whenever they ride any thrill ride.
      While Raging Bull is better the further back guests ride in: I cannot agree that this is a "back or bust" coaster, especially considering how impressed I was with Raging Bull during my 1st ride when I felt airtime not only during the 1st drop but most importantly the post 1st camelback twisted dive into the 2nd turnaround (the turnaround before diving then rising up into the MCBR). I'll admit that 2nd high turnaround before the MCBR is the worst part of Raging Bull and I don't think anyone disagrees with that observation, but that twisted dive before it was surprisingly full of airtime even for any guest riding in row five (the middle) of the train which is where I was sitting the 1st time I rode it.
      In summary: I understand why you tease the "back or bust" reputation onto Raging Bull, since it's the only coaster I'd call a "car from 5 through 9 or bust" coaster. But that's because usually people respect the front and back cars of a coaster, especially if it has long trains comprised of numerous cars, causing the strongest negative gs being more forcefully experienced in the front and back cars respectively. But for some reason: Raging Bull is just better the further back guests sit on any of its trains. I guess the better question to ask is this: "Why is the front car of Raging Bull so lame?" I don't know how to answer the "why" of that question, but I can agree that the front car of Raging Bull is just "lame". Sorry for rambling: the last time I saw this I'd never been to Six Flags Great America. But I never forgot this and wanted to address it, Now I have. Thanks for posting this review!
