Maxx Force Review, Six Flags Great America S&S Air Launch Coaster | Best Ride at Great America!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 авг 2021
- Maxx Force at Six Flags Great America has the fastest acceleration in North America. This S&S compressed air launch coaster accelerates riders from 0 to 78 mph in just 1.8 seconds. The coaster then tears through a compact layout featuring 5 inversions, including the world's fastest inversion. I think this coaster is now the park's best ride!

That sonic boom was awesome and very noticeable in 2021, i didnt know it used to be louder. It was great for me trying to get footage since i knew when the train was coming
The boom was certainly helpful for that.
Being a local of sfgam the sonic boom is something that you have to get used to. like the pullout of Superman if is crazy loud until you get used to
The best way I can describe the launch: you’re stomach doesn’t drop on it, it’s left behind. It is also my favorite coaster at SFGAM
I know this response is late, but I just rode this thing for the first time last month, after it was closed during my visit in May, and it gave me a stomach dropping feeling I haven’t felt in a decade.
Glad you liked it!
I rode Maxx force on it's opening day July 4th 2019 and yes the boom was wayyy louder and deeper. Being at the water park it was actually annoying how powerful the boom was because you'd feel the vibrations at the pool near Maxx force. Now it's far more manageable and I really love how you can always feel it.
Dang that sonic boom really sounds insane.
It is the most incredible launch I've EVER been on worldwide.
It's insane. Unmatched.
More like what I'd imagine a rocket launch feels like!
It's powerful.
Proud to have this at my home park 😩
Nice!
Given the ride's high quality but short length makes me think it's like the Wonder Woman Golden Lasso Coaster of Great America.
That's fair!
Amazing review! I pretty much agree with everything you said! If this ride was longer it would definitely be the best ride in the park!!! I always went in with the wrong expectations so hopefully when I return to the park this week I’ll like it more with the right expectations
Enjoy!
Great review. I really appreciate the level of detail you put into all your videos.
Thanks!
100% agree about this being the best ride in the park!
It's short but sweet.
Awesome timing for this video! Hopefully getting my first ride on it tomorrow!
Enjoy!
Goliath and Maxx Force are both intense rides with a short layout, but I feel Goliath has some great moments. But this is still a second best in the park, because raging bull is really carried by the nice first drop. I hope I can ride this some day
It's always interesting to see how people rank this park's coasters since they all have their merits and there's no unanimous number one.
Maxx is my top in the park as well- it's the only coaster in the lineup that's a truly elite ride in my opinion! The launch slightly edges out Xcelerator for me. The launch is notably quieter from 2019 - it used to make me jump from all over the park before the changes haha. Loved my front-row rides with you as well!
Nice to meet you! I can't imagine how loud it was.
By far the best coaster reviews on You tube!
Thanks!
Agree!! Love this ride.
Nice!
This is one of my top bucket list coasters
Makes sense!
I agree it is the best coaster at my home park too! 👍🏼 9.5 for me! Tied for the best launch in the country too! Shared this video too!
Glad you enjoy the ride too!
I personally put it third in the park behind Raging Bull and Goliath due to its very short ride time. Goliath may be short, but I prefer all its elements over any of Maxx Force's. I still like the ride as its a huge adrenaline rush, but I prefer the airtime on Goliath and Raging Bull over the hangtime on Maxx Force. Plus this ride had an hour long wait with one train on a Saturday when I was there
That's fair the other two do airtime better.
Your suppose to go Monday lol when I went Monday we went straight on Batman no flash pass or anything
The launch is very powerful, and it is a very smooth ride. I rode it within it's first month of operation, so no row requests were being taken ever, and it broke down all the time. You had to wait out a breakdown in line if you wanted a ride, because it was guaranteed to not operate for an hour straight. I think those things might have slightly soured my feelings on the ride. The dog-tongue was cool, even though it didn't feel like we ever inverted at all. That final element felt like one inversion to me, not that it really matters. I think the ride time is more like 20 seconds, and it definitely felt extremely short to me.
The ride seems to be far more reliable now, which made it easier for me to ride.
Both times I visited Great America in 2021 and 2022, I did Maxx Force right out of the gate, both times in the front. That launch is a true gut-punch, and the 60 mph roll is awesome! I have this ranked at #4 in the park, ahead of X-Flight and behind Batman.
It's my favorite there, but this park has such a stacked lineup.
@@CanobieCoaster Happy to call it my home park.
SFGAm is my home park and Maxx is my favorite coaster there. However, I have only been on it once, and the only other coaster I have been on in 2021 is viper. The rest of the coasters I have not been on since 2017/2018, so I need to reride everything and get more rides on Maxx. But for now, Maxx is #1.
Makes sense.
I ever so slightly prefer Goliath in the park, but Maxx Force's launch is incredible! Even with the short duration, I would love to see more of these pop up at other parks, especially ones without a launch coaster.
I'd love this at Six Flags New England.
They should've got MAX FORCE AND FULL TROTTLE Together and made it 1 coaster it would've been an amaizing ride
That would be amazing.
Just wanna fix one thing… They are themed to Formula 1 cars. Hence the wheels. Top notch review.
Oh ok, thanks!
Wonderful review!!
I agree with giving Maxx Force a 9.
The launch and grey out g's between the dog tongue and the barrel roll are worth the price of admission alone.
I have seen conflicting reports on what Maxx Force's acceleration truly is:
In the Koaster Kids Maxx Force Media Day footage, Jason Mons of S&S said that Maxx Force launches at 80 mph in under 2 seconds.
ACE reported that Maxx Force accelerates from 0-78 mph in 1.7 seconds.
I'm not sure who to believe on that.
However, what I do know is Maxx Force is my favorite coaster at SFGAm and I am grateful that it's at my home park.
Either way, that launch is strong!
Hey, Canobie Coaster! More of these rides should open in the United States!
I hope!
That looks cool I hope one of these models go to other six flags parks like six flags new England.
Agreed!
I love this launch it was so fun it made this old man feel young again. I laughed the whole time all .2 seconds of it 😂
First time ever riding it
Rode X-Floght also for the first time but we made sure to get the front row. I got the outside on the left when you are sitting. K had an absolute blast riding this the twists and rolls flips were great and the first drop is amazing when on the oh side of the car. I highly recommend the front cars once. It’s definitely worth it
I love the launch.
Another Fantastic review from the man himself.
Are you reviewing one of those four water coasters you took footage of?
I reviewed a few already (Holiday World's, Krakatau, Tsunami Surge).
Nice. And you just uploaded one (I was referring to the 4 last week by the way)
So excited to watch it. Canobie coaster reviews and videos in general are amazing.
This looks like one of the best launches for sure
Sure is!
I've been on Rita, Top Thrill Dragster, Xcellerator, and Stealth, the last of which has the fastest rate of acceleration of any coaster I've been on, and even if I've not been on Maxx force: I can assure you the rate of acceleration is even more extreme, only topped by Do Dodonpa (which I've also not yet ridden.)
Stealth is comparable to Xcelerator for me.
@@CanobieCoaster Xcelerator has a better layout and T-Bar restraints too!
I remember I asked on Reddit about whether this was a better coaster than Storm Runner. Although Maxx Force has the better launch, it seemed like most people preferred Storm Runner’s Top Hat & Flying Snake Dive over Maxx Force’s Dog Tongue & Maxx Dive Loop respectively.
After reriding Storm Runner, that is the better coaster. The secondary elements have way more power.
Hey, Canobie Coaster! I should try this coaster one day!
It's great.
When I went to Great America, Maxx Force wasn't built yet, so I haven't had the luxury of riding it. However, I got to ride Dragster for the 1st time last month and it's definitely the best launch I've been on. I'd love to ride Maxx and see how the extra acceleration feels
This ride's launch is amazing.
This was a good addition to this park! Hopefully this park gets a new roller coaster in 2023 they are due for one
I'm still surprised this park doesn't have the SkyScreamer or Zamperla Giant Discovery models that popped up at most of their parks.
This aged well.
I rode it in 2019 and 2021. It was pretty much tied with Goliath for my favorite in the park in 2019, but in 2021 only the launch delivered. I got absolutely nothing in 2021 beyond that.
Interesting. I loved it this past year.
Thanks for this review, I haven't been back since this was built. Would you say the dog tongue is similar to a cobra roll?
It's more like a banana roll with hangtime.
This ride had a lot of issues with downtime early this season, and then closed outright for about a week. Since then it has run consistently, so I believe they used that time to work out many of the bugs. Raging Bull still beats it, in my opinion, because of its long duration and amazing first drop in row 9. Maxx Force is still easily number 2 at the park for me and even makes its way into my overall top 10. It was exactly what this park needed to round out its already great lineup.
That's great they used the downtime well.
Oh my goodness I rode this yesterday and I knew it was going to be ridiculous but it was even crazier than I expected I rode front row after and then last row
The launch is insane.
I also think Maxx Force is also the best coaster there too. It’s cool we share the same opinion
Nice!
I’m pretty sure they did some sound suppression, but what they more did is redirected the sound more towards the station
Ah ok!
It's my home park and I rank it 4th at the park. Yes, the boom used to be way louder.
I can't imagine how loud that must have been.
@@CanobieCoaster YOu can hear it almost all the way across the park.
They have a single rider line for Maxx force now and it'll be super short most of the time. No seating requests though since they just use it to fill odd number parties.
That's how all single rider lines are.
The sound from the boom is about the same. There are days where it is quieter but the loudness is determined from the weather. The park did say they might try to reduce the noise but there was no guarantee it would work. So idk if they did anything or if they tried and failed
Interesting it's weather related!
The dog tounge is just a double inverting banana roll just like Steel Curtain’s second and third inversions.
Pretty much.
This is still the third best ride in the park for me. Somehow they managed to make an even shorter ride than Goliath haha. It’s fun but the length definitely bothers me.
That's fair.
Vertical Velocity is kinda outdated so they needed this. It may not have the longest layout but the acceleration on the launch plus the unique inversions, one of them being the world's fastest inversion, it all makes up for it. I don't think it's number 1 at Great America but I'd be surprised if this doesn't make anyone's top 3 here.
It was a great fit.
Steel force at Dorney is an elite and underrated coaster its better than candymonium and Apollo imo
I watched your review on it and it gave me some decent expectations about it but it still blew them out of the water
Glad you loved it! I enjoy Steel Force, but I do prefer those other 2 rides.
I find that about a second before the ride launches, you can hear this noise of the compressed air getting ready to launch
Ah ok.
Never mind, it’s the brake fins dropping
What are the diferences between the shin guards on Coast Rider at Knott's Berry Farm, the shin guards on Cannibal at Lagoon, and the shin guards on Maxx Force at Six Flags Great America? How are they shaped, how do they come down, and if they have contouring?
The Coast Rider ones don't have clearance and are jammed into your shin.
It is still around the same level of noise. It gets annoying hearing it around the park, but it also gives the ride character and let’s you know when it’s running.
I always know when it launches for sure.
Is maxx force’s launch really more intense than dragster or ka? I’ve been on maxx force but never ka
It's shorter, but more forceful.
While I disagree that it’s the best ride in the park, I do love it very much. I tend to like it more the less I wait for it though.
That's fair with a lot of rides.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah ill wait max 30 mins alone, 45 mins with friends for it especially with that absolutely atrocious queue with no shade. anything more for a 20 second expeience just makes me feel like an idiot.
how to time the launch:
as the catch car attaches to the train, it rolls forward and back twice. the exact moment it stops rolling back for the second time, it is exactly 7 seconds until launch
Ah ok, thanks!
Strong launch, but I think I prefer XCelerator's to it. I also prefer Goliath to it, but Maxx Force is my second favorite ride in the park.
That's fair!
how does the barrel roll compare to the last inversion on Velocicoaster?
Similar laterals, but Maxx Force's is faster and doesn't have the hangtime.
I rode opening year and it sounded the same as it does now
Ok thanks!
Where are the rollback brakes located? I'm not sure since they don't portrude out of the track like an Intamin Accelerator (or any Intamin magnetic brakes)
I'm not sure since it's hard to see off-ride.
I've never ridden an s&s coaster so I don't know what the launch feels like but my favorite launch is Desert race and this looks like an even more powerful launch. Do you prefer this launch to Fluch Von Novgorod's launch?
This one crushes Novgorod's since it occurs from a dead stop.
@@CanobieCoaster Yes I can see that, Desert race does the same (it's better than the FVN launch). The launch on FVN is good imo but it's not really that impressive imo. I even prefer Anubis over Novgorod :).
The launch feels Wayyy quieter. you can still obviously hear it everywhere. but it used to be LOUD.
The park tried to make it quieter due to noise complaints.
Good to know!
What are the differences between shin guards that have contouring and shin guards that have no contouring?
Contoured ones curve around the shin.
What mic do you use?
The more important thing is that I invested in a pop filter. I got a $30 one off Amazon.
I just rode it this weekend for the first time and OMG. That launch is SIIIICK! You don't even notice how short it is because it's so intense
Sure is.
I think I'll do this ride first next time I visit and then do Superman: Ultimate Flight next as that ride can be pretty bad to. Is that a good plan?
I am just glad this ride doesn't have much downtime (at least I hope it doesn't). They had a ride in Germany called Ring Racer that was very similar to this but was incredibly unreliable and taken out after just a few days.
I think Superman gets a worse line from what I saw. It stinks both are at the very front.
I *Highly* Recommend Buying a Skip The Line Pass for Superman for $12. It is so worth it if you can afford it but only for this ride because the line gets soooo long and the loading time is so long.
@@djsugarc1075 If I was doing the waterpark on the same day, I probably would consider it. But based on how it's not included with admission anymore, how it's gotten pretty big with more slides and how busy it was even when it was included, I think I'll do that on a different day meaning I should have all day and plenty of time to do everything in the main park.
Don’t count on flash pass being added more. X2 still is only one ride as well. Along with dare Devil dive
That's fair.
Honestly if the ride was 20-30 seconds longer I wouldn’t have any complaints. Still in the top 5 coasters at Great America
It would be a truly elite coaster with extra track.
Quick question, what does it mean to gray out?
When you experience sustained positive Gs and start to lose your vision.
@@CanobieCoaster oh ok thank you!
How does your stomach drop on the launch if it is not a drop
Not sure, but I get that sensation.
I rode it last weekend. It glues you to the seat. You definitely feel the Gs but it’s amazing.
I’m actually a little scared of this ride. Along with Kingda Ka, TTD, I305, X2, Eejanaika, Do-Dodonpa and Pirates Hideaway.
The launch is strong, but the ride is fun.
@@CanobieCoaster stronger than Ka? God
@@CanobieCoaster Also the reason I said Pirates Hideway is because I avoided that one going to Casino Pier
What means that the shin guards don't have clearance?
They dig into your shin. There is no gap.
Will you ever review dark rides
I've reviewed a few like Rise of the Resistance.
@@CanobieCoaster you should do Fast & Furious Supercharged
Does the heartline roll feel like Velocicoaster's mosasaurus roll?
Probably not. Maxx Force's is way more faster and whippy. There's no hangtime like with mosasaurus roll. Like canobie said, its more about the speed and laterals
The laterals do, but you don't get the hangtime since it's over so quickly.
What's better?
This or storm runner?
It's very close, but probably Storm Runner.
@@CanobieCoaster SR is much more fun IMHO, but more painful restraints... I am glad for SFGAm but wish MF had at least another hill or another circuit. MF is #5 for me as I like X flight, Goliath, Superman clone and RB better
I had my head forward just before the launch and it gave me a really bad headache for the rest of the day.
Oh no!
I really want to see an S&S Launch Coaster in America to launch 120 mph in 1 second that would probably never happen
You never know!
The ride also is super unreliable - the one time I went, the ride shut down at around 2 or so and didn't reopen the rest of the day. I rode first thing after opening, so was thankful for that. That being said, I've been on Dragster and this and this acceleration puts it to shame. Dragster has such a smooth acceleration, while this feels like I got kicked in the back by a mule. I can't imagine how Do Dodonpa feels.
I'm lucky it was open.
It’s getting a bit better with reliability. Not perfect but definitely not as bad as Hypersonic XLC was at KD
why not ten?
Short
And the BOOM I like it,they took it off? Not cool
It's still there, but apparently less pronounced.
I thought the sonic boom was super noticeable when I went but it just made the ride seem even better
For me, it did as well.
