    Six Flags Great America is the best Six Flags park in my opinion, especially for the rides and roller coasters, and here’s why.

    Theme park enthusiasts that aren’t from Illinois or Wisconsin who actually do end up going to Great America tend to have it in their top 3 Six Flags parks. That makes me happy. It’s my home park and I do like the diversity in their lineup but the wait times are so long. Even with operations being pretty good.

    It's currently my second favorite Six Flags park behind Six Flags Magic Mountain. If you think about it, this is basically Kings Island if it were a Six Flags park. They're both equal in size (or close to it), they both have a pleasant atmosphere and they both have a huge and underrated ride lineup. I prefer this one the most between the two, but it could change after I revisit both of them this summer. It doesn't help after all that they decided to make Hurricane Harbor separate from the rest of the park.

    My home park! Definitely an underrated park but it lacks a "must visit to ride" rollercoaster. I agree with your take on X Flight. I have no idea why that line is always so short! I don't mind that of course. 😂

    There’s certainly precedence in the chain to have multiple launched coasters (magic mountain with full throttle superman and west coast racers), which would mean getting a multi launch is possible, i think since the park just built maxx force, they might want to avoid something like that so soon. A new gen vekoma looper like those seen popping up in europe (fonix) would be an amazing way to replace demon, they could even keep the theme and use that plot of land. Ultimately this park needs another looong ride, 3 train operations, so im thinking a b and m goga when the financial situation at six flags improves.

  • @porkryne72
    @porkryne72 Год назад +2

    What's also great is with all these newer coasters, they all draw heat off one another making wait times so short. I used to wait 2 hours for front on bull, 2 hrs anywhere for superman 90 for batman. They've been reduced dramatically with x flight goliath especially joker and maxx force.

    • @ThemeParkAvenue

    I went to this park several years ago. It's one I need to get back to. I ranked Goliath very highly when I went but it was my first RMC. I thought Raging Bull was the worst B&M hyper by far but didn't know it was a "back row or bust". I bet I'd at least rank it over Candymonium (sorry, I rank that one real low). I really liked American Eagle, it would be cool to race but I get why they don't. When I went, V2 had the holding break. As a result, best impulse I've ridden. X Flight I found to be quite rough, I know Cupcakes&Coasters said something similar. Curious to see how my opinions on the park would change today, Maxx Force looks like a solid addition (I'm a huge Powder Keg fan so if it's a more intense version of that launch I'll be happy).

    I do agree this park is underrated, though the one issue with me saying "it's so great" or wishing it was my local SF is mainly that X-Flight's vest restraints really mess up the experience, like you don't really feel the hangtime on the drop unless your in the front and it constrains too much. But people have that complaint about most wing coasters and/or B&M vest restraints. What I do love is it having so many classics along with new stuff and generally well-made coasters. I don't really see a reason to care about Goliath being too short when the park has a well taken care of wooden coaster like "Viper" and the oen that deserves retracking but is still very fun and different from most out and backs like "American Eagle." I do wish Raging Bull was a bit better though I admit the dive into the tunnel is a nice touch, and it's better than the gio...whatever models by far.

    Love the review!!!
    Great vid.
    I love Great America. My #1 knock against their great coaster line-up, which has something for everyone is that the rides are very quick. At Great America, you are in those lines for a long ass time on some days and the rides go by so fast, and if you've been in them lines in Guenee, you know that the heat in them Guenee lines are Hot AF, at least in the Summer.
    Now Cedar Point, they got lines too, the same Great Lakes Sun Heat, but the rides last just a little bit longer, especially the walk-on Rougarou.
    I love SFGAM - but I also wish some of them coasters last longer on the tush than the foot. Now Viper - that's a bang for the buck!
    I love this park so much. Perfect way to spend a day on a guy's night out weekend in Chicago/Milwaukee.

    I feel like giving an honest opinion of Great America is hard for me since it was my home park growing up, so it has many of my first rides (first coaster, first inversion, first hyper, etc) but I still think the lineup at the park is legitimately great. Raging Bull might be the most underrated hyper out there. Whizzer is way too intense for a 36 inch height requirement. For the size of land they're in Goliath and X Flight really do a lot. Hell even Little Dipper is notable for being one of the most recent relocated wooden coasters, even if it did come from Kiddieland, which isn't exactly San Antonio to Pennsylvania.

  • @thecoasterconnoisseur
    @thecoasterconnoisseur Год назад +3

    While I wouldn't say any of my home park's coasters are "extremely" elite, Six Flags Great America really has quality over most of the Six Flags park's quantity. While Magic Mountain has a huge drop from X2 and TwiCo to the 3rd place, Raging Bull, Goliath, Viper, Maxx Force, and American Eagle are all amazing and so close with each other, and it's supporting lineup is also one of the best of the chain. I believe Whizzer is one of the best family coasters of all time (I'll make my decision once I've ridden most major family coasters), and Great America's family lineup is the best out of the chain. I haven't been to every Six Flags park, but I've seen operations in videos and have heard that Great America has the best operations out of the entire chain. Not only that, there's only one coaster I'd consider "bad", which is Demon, but that's also a park opening coaster with a compact footprint. It has an insane amount of B&Ms, and it has an amazing atmosphere, and some good theming with Orleans Place, Yukon Territory, and the Western Area. It's food is on par with the above average Six Flags parks, and it's probably the Six Flags park with a better history, with the first B&M, first B&M Invert, one of the first B&M Hypers, one of the only RMC Topper Tracks, One of the world's first Wing Coasters, and Intamin's first major coaster.

      MM's supporting lineup isn't a huge drop off though. Tatsu is one of the best flying coasters, Wonder Woman is arguably the best single rail, WCR is an extremely fun dueling coaster and Full Throttle has a great launch and iconic loop. This isn't even considering the rest of their supporting lineup either which is still extremely solid and imo far better than GA's. That's just my two cents though, everyone has their own opinion.

    I have Six Flags Great America as the third best Six Flags park. It is pretty close to #2 but I think Fiesta Texas is just run so well. Great America has the better overall coaster collection than Fiesta Texas but that park is just run so much better. Magic Mountain's line-up crushes Great America, mainly at the top. Magic Mountain has 4 coasters in my Top 50 overall, and 2 in my Top 20. Great America only has one (Goliath) and it is in my 30's. Great America has 3 in my 51-100 range and 4 in my 101-150. Its strength is how deep the line-up is. Magic Mountain also has 3 in my 51-100 and only 1 in my 101-150 range. I have Great Adventure and Over Georgia as the 4th and 5th best Six Flags parks. I still have to go to Mexico, but I doubt Darien Lake, Frontier City, Great Escape, LaRonde, or America will be close. In fact after Over Goergia it is a pretty big drop off. St. Louis and New England are next for me. I enjoyed St. Louis more but I think New England is at least on par with St. Louis. Over Texas is after those 2, mainly because when I visited in 2019 it was a complete mess. Discovery Kingdom brings up the rear.
    Great America has one of the deepest coaster line-ups anywhere. If I look at coasters in my Top 150 (Top 1/3rd- 452 credits), Great America is one of three parks with 8 coasters in the Top 150. Cedar Point and Magic Mountain are the other two. I'm guessing Hershey is the next closest. It currently has 5, but once I get on Wildcat's Revenge and Storm Runner it should have 7.
    I can get on board with your thoughts on this one more than Kings Island because Great America clearly has such a deep coaster line-up despite lacking that one true elite coaster.
