Art Arfons is a pioneer in drag racing, land speed racing and tractor pulling. He broke the land speed record in 1965. All his machines were called Green Monster.
If all the California hotrodders got together and voted it could go back to being the coolest state in the country. We owe the hotrod pioneers from there so much.
The only downer, for me, is the necessity to go to California to experience this absolutely super event. Thank you for all your work in bringing it to us. P.S. I liked the ramp trucks, but I would love them as a Ford.
Big thanks for the well done video 👍. First dragstrip I attended in 64', when track was a full 1/4 mile. After that, came Lions, OCIR, Bakersfield, Fremomt, Sears Point, Sacramento, etc. And yes...I'm still racing all these years later ✌😎
I understand the nostalgia liking of Ramp Trucks but I can tell you from first hand experience a Dually Tow vehicle and a goose neck enclosed trailer with a door on the side to get out of your car is so much more practical. To start with your car is out of the weather when towing it to and from the track. You have a lockable enclosed storage area for your car. You can use your tow vehicle for other things than schlepping you car to and from the track. Whilst at the track you have a place under cover to hang out as well as keep your car under cover as well as place to look at data from your car etc and the list goes on and on but I know opinions are like a certain body orifice and everyone has one. Thanks for the video.
We specifically want a ramp truck so we can haul 2 cars at once. We’re aware that it’s probably better to just have a regular truck+trailer for hauling only one.
Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed the tour! The variety of cars there is amazing, some serious machines for sure! The black Checker wagon close to the end of the video wins my favorite selection! Thanks again, you did a nice job with the camera handling,no shaking and bobbing around.
What?? Where's the altered wheelbase A/FX'rs,?? Where's the crazy fuel altereds like 'Pure Hell" n' the 'Winged Express'. Possibly the most difficult to drive and most entertaining cars to watch at the drags!!
Liv love this video, the boat with green m/t v/covers green engine, anyways my dad had Micky Thompson v/c on 70 455 GTO ,for those may not know Micky Thompson was founded of the Christmas tree drag light rip Micky Thompson and wife was murder case unsaveld case love Micky Thompson look up his car with four Pontiac 455s on one car
Wow. Great through back. Was like lions drag strip in the 60s. Every name u mentioned saw them all at lions. Great video. I have seen them at the road kings car shows in Burbank
Hello Liv! Just stubbled across your video's with your 67 pontiac. I have a 68 lemans conv among lots others. I love you Enthusiasm for these old cars and being such a young gal. Wish I could find a gal like you! Like your ramp truck idea too!! I have a 68 C40 might just have to do that to!? Keep em up! Ol School House Garage
Man would love to have been there! So cool to see Swamp Rat III. Always wanted to see the Garlits Museum! It's funny as you were walking around I thought of Tommy Ivo's Showboat. Then all the sudden there's one of Tommy's cars! Great footage!
Hello and thanks for bringing back many memories of these real American hot rods the only thing is i wish you could go to florida and video tape and chat with BIG DADDY he will forever be the King of NITRO RAILS i got to meet BIG DADDY here in San Antonio Texas at a national event at Smokin Alamo Dragway back in early 70s along with Cha Cha The Snake Art Arfons The Houston Hustler funny car these people were cool and down to earth AA- Fuel Racers
The swamp rat 111 is sonnys cars , it’s the only one ☝️ that Don Garlitz ever let let go out of his museum, loll nice thanks BigAl California, your beautiful, really nice beautiful lady, thanks BigAl California, I just subscribed, thanks praise Jesus grace Christ amen.
The old red Chevrolet beavertail tow truck I agree they are cool had a friend many years ago that used to have a blue one like that 327 V8 thing was ragged looking Liz but he hauled a car or 2 with it everyday that red one is really good lookin for its age has to be 60 to a 66 u can find those in the older yards u got a look but they a still out there there pretty handy jf workin right a lot of nice Cars too
That truck is fairly rare as it is a c-40/ class 4 truck. I’ve can only recall seeing a handful in my sixty some years of looking at trucks. Beautiful original condition as well.
I would like to see Top Gas return with 10 litre engines, 610 cubic inch, single engines and maybe match racing since they would be far cheaper than Nitro cars.
Hey Liv, cool video. Hey the track announcer there is Bob Beck Tell him I sent you He is a cool guy to talk to. He has an internet show so maybe you can be on it. ??
I love the idea that you young ladies are getting into drag racing. You may be the leading wave of a hotrod revival.. Just curious, when and how did you get into it? And maybe you will stop the progression of the ecars.. A true hotrod killer and the massive aftermarket business that goes with it. Quiet hotrods..No thanks.
Bit disappointed.at 7.29 you passed a very important car right by without so much as a mention. The "High & Mighty 49' Mopar developed so much for that gasser class and some of it's basics are still used today. It's motor sports the first developed tunnel ram manifold that was hand fabled by the builders. They were Chryslers engineers.
The parade at the end of the old rails and gassers was worth the wait!👍 I've always loved both classes.

The young generation don't know what they don't know.
Young girl with an old soul!
If all the California hotrodders got together and voted it could go back to being the coolest state in the country. We owe the hotrod pioneers from there so much.
Please do !
Thanks for letting us see all the great cars and trucks. Loved the video 👍

I hope there's more of this to come. Great content
I agree!
A Checker Marathon wagon! You don't see those every day. Great coverage of that event. Shows like this make me want to move somewhere warmer.
I used to ride my bike to Irwindale dragstrip in the 60s. Now it's buried under Miller brewery. RIP

Thanks for that, I first saw Freight Train in Hot Rod Magazine when I was a kid. Great to see it's still in one piece.
Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed the tour!

Love the ramp trucks! Worst thing to happen to drag racing is enclosed trailers.
Most of us don't want our cars rained on and if you have to stay overnight at a motel an enclosed trailer keeps you from getting robbed of your things
I love the sounds of the cars as you walk about excellent!
Those are some Beautiful Badass car's and thanks for sharing with us 👍👍💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸 from Alabama 👍
Your video earned the "Green Lights" for sure! Covering all the various, spectacular cars and creations is very much appreciated! Thank You!
Very cool video , love the old school stuff .
I also have fire birds, 1975 rough , could be use for race car or demolition, loll nice , thank BigAl California.

The Freight Train driven at one time by the Maytag man Bob Muravaez aka Floyd Lippencott ...Great guy and a funny man to listen to ...full of stories
Great video and I mean every second of it!
so-cal needs more of this big time.
At 6:30 the moment you realize you've been driving your Corvette from the wrong seat.
Man would love to have been there! So cool to see Swamp Rat III. Always wanted to see the Garlits Museum! It's funny as you were walking around I thought of Tommy Ivo's Showboat. Then all the sudden there's one of Tommy's cars! Great footage!

We used to cut Saturday neighborhood baseball games short if the Freight Train was going to be on "Wide World of Sports".
Thank you for sharing the video.
This is so cool.
Lots of cool stuff! I've got a model of the Hemi Under Glass and just bought one of the yellow Mooneyes dragster.
Looks like fun
Very cool, really enjoyed!!!
Boy! You're everywhere!😄
Awesome Video Liv as always
I saw the "Freight Train" crash at Continental Divide Raceway back in the early 70's
Great medicine for a hick in southwest Missouri. Not a lot of events like this around here.
Look online to see the first vehicle called "The Green Monster" Art Arfons

Just connected to you me and my son build models I love building the old drag cars
Well, look who it is!👋
Drag Queen
So- You mentioned wanting a name for your car. After watching and getting to know the nature of your team, I like "The Lovebird".
right off the 605!
@Liv Scaffidi, Firebird names: Finger Lickin' Chikin'
or Frickin' Chikin' !!!
love it
Super cool
So, how about Firefly for the Firebird?
I just subscribed. A really good video..
Love those old cars, but I expect the California Democrats to shut that all down in the next couple of years. Better enjoy it while it is going.
Instead of a Ramp Truck, you need a full flatbed Wrecker, aka Rollback.
I would like to see Top Gas return with 10 litre engines, 610 cubic inch, single engines and maybe match racing since they would be far cheaper than Nitro cars.
Miller beer taketh
Miller beer giveth
Bitchin' video.
Bird is the word, c u guys in tucson
That is a 57 Chevrolet Gasser it doesn't have a front bumper is it's not supposed to have one but you've got the whole story it is a Gasser
