That engine hoist trick on the bumper worked like a charm. Dan, gets an extra bowl of ice cream for that!
Your awesome thats what Canadian girls do,i live in the country in Saskatchewan and those girls can fix anything, great video. thankyou for shareing
They can even fix they're own Canadian Muscle Cars like the Acadian Canso SD, Acadian SS, and the Beaumont SD as well fix the Canadian Fords like the Meteor Montcalm S37 and the Monarch Richelieu.
@@CJColvin Why so negative asshat?
Troubleshooting and fixing random things is so much more interesting and relatable than just adding a bunch of new, big dollar parts.
The Tempest is fantastic. Please consider putting more time into it. The feeling you would get from making this car right is worth the time and effort.
Great video. Enjoy when you all are working thru problems and troubleshooting. I think this helps people when they're thinking about doing their own work.
Enjoyed when you told him "ok, ok, ok.....ok, ok, ok"...reminded me of when my daughter used to help me work on our truck 😊.
Look forward to other videos like this. They're important to all those first time DIY mechanics...
Blessings from Texas...🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great video guys! Dany you're so good at what you do! That was brilliant using the engine lift to straighten the bumper, nice job. Olivia you are so amazing that you're such a car nut like all the rest of us guys watching you. I personally wish that my wife would have been interested in that hobby with me. She divorced me, but I kept the 1982 corvette I was working on. That was a win for me!
If Danny let's her hit a wall with her in the car like the other video with the 56 chevy she's crazy if stays with him on the dangerous ideas he has" think about it what if that chain had broke not knowing what direction that chain would go"! For her sake"!
OK snowflake. 🤦♂️
I love this ❤ You just saved a bundle on that bumper. I was all in agreement with Danny to take it out to a tree and pull it. Skip the tree and use the engine puller! Love it! Nice job Olivia, you handled this like a pro!
Friday upload.. great weekend to start it off. Your missing the battery clamp that should bolt on the screw hole. At least that how my Pontiacs had to secure battery.
You are right 👍
Thing about building cars is discretion. All about decision making.
For example, I would never change the steering wheel position in the occupant compartment which should be based upon driver ergonomics...to improve steering intermediate shaft position relative to the steering box. Ever.
Instead use one or two inexpensive and common 'Steering Shaft U-Joint Couplers' connected to either or both ends of the intermediate shaft. This completely removes any rotational tension aka lack of constant angular velocity due to intermediate shaft misalignment which created the 'fight' in the flex disc initially.
As a general rule, most hotrod builders know to never adjust the steering wheel to satisfy angle of attack to the steering box.
Yes, budget and simplicity are relevant and matter. But in this case? Only one right way to do it as a 'common practice' and the solution is cheap.
Good luck.
Look I hear you... but if you watched the video, the shaft needed to be moved a quarter of an inch and it completely resolved the issue. I can't even tell a difference in the cab when I'm driving because the wheel barely moved. Now if it needed a lot more adjustment, then sure, I'd do couplers.
@@GnarlySpeedShop Yeah, these things weren't built like Porsches. They assumed and allowed for plenty of slop at the factory and gave themselves adjustabilty where they needed it.
The '67 steering column was a drop-in replacement for the previous '66 design (actually, probably 64' and 65' as well) and those all used the single long chest-harpoon steering shaft that ran all the way from the box up to the goddamn horn button. So the mounting point at the pedal hanger was in fact the ONLY place to adjust them.
EDIT: It just occurred to me that there actually are two places to adjust the alignment of the steering column. The other place is where it passes through the firewall. The bracket there is mounted with screws that have really wide washers and the holes in the plates are enlarged so it can be jimmied around.
I have my 66 Olds Dynamic 88 (my first car I bought in 1987). You inspire me to wrench on it every time you work on the Tempest.
They do make a universal joint for your steering
Dang u responded quick thanks amillion
Pop or clunk when turning is usually worn or lose control arm bushings my want to check that! Good job working on your own stuff! They sell a grease gun adapter kit that has a bunch of 45 amd 90 degree bends for tight spaces.
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. I drive 1976 GMC Sprint as a driver , I do maintenance as stated from the factory ! Not knowing mileage on your vehicle tie-rods may be due ! Very cool vehicle ! 👀😎👍🍸🇺🇸
I’ve always enjoyed doing maintenance work, Made me feel like I was preventing a future breakdown. I appreciate the fact that you like to take care of your stuff!❤
GSS, nice run through on clunks and groans! An aligned steering shaft and a few tweaks and she's ready to go! The bolt check after all that new front work was a must! It's always better to be safe than sorry. Good lesson for people building their own cars. Thanks!
You're doing great! It doesn't matter if the repairs are big or small, they all need repaired, keep up the good work.
My favorite line of the day how do I look like from behind you look like you’ve been rear-ended😂
You need wheel wells!
Definitely, the water and trash that can come into the engine bay will wreak havoc on it. Buy some fender covers and bolt them in the area.
Sheet Metal
Start the car, put it up in the air and grab the front tire and move it left to right and you will hear where the noise is coming from.
Don't know why you remove the fender wells, that's going to give you more problem down the road. Plus it doesn't looks good.
Hopefully don't regret that decision if without wheel wells" because in car accident will let that fold without them in place " Hopefully that wasn't her idiot boyfriends idea again like the video were he let her hit a wall with the 56, chevy in other video "!
Years ago I removed the fender wells from my ’72 Nova along with the hood hinges and other things in an effort to lighten the weight of the front-end.
And you might experience cool problems cuz the air gets channeled through with help from the wheel wells ! Air becomes almost useless even with electric fans ! It's much more effective with wheel wells
Rhett
I have a '65 Buick Skylark sedan I have owned for 13 years. It doesn't look like a showroom car by any means, but I smile every time I drive it which is frequently. The car shouldn't even exist as the person I acquired the car from (who is a close friend) rebuilt the car from a wreck including using a donor car for another frame.
Hi from New Zealand. Great video. Impressed by the way you analysed everything and got it sorted out. Excellent job.
I really liked this video Liv, it wasn't silly. Like you said, those little details are what makes the car a joy to drive. The little fixits and tweeking are part of the everyday things we do as old car owners. I actually enjoy doing these little projects, and your use of the cherry picker to straighten the bumper is what us ordinary garage folks do to get things done! Clever and creative!
Cool! I have a 1966 GTO I bought in 1987. ❤
Fender wells and the or battery tray.
I went to the All Pontiac show at the Fullerton Airport last May 11th. It's an annual event that showcases all very cool Pontiacs from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. I got a classic Pontiac parts book that seems all inclusive. Maybe a good source for the bumper. The book has a picture of Chief Pontiac on the cover.
Glad you're giving this car some attention.. ( love the gauges ).. it's a LONG way from the old OHC 6...
Something you might wanna check for popping noise is your body mounting bushings. Those can make a popping noise when stopping or driving over bumps if they are bad. Because of the body moving around on the frame and causing binding pressure on the bolts and the bolts can move around too which can cause binding pressure.
Bonus Video!!! Love this stuff. This is my whole life with my daily too. I have a list......and its looming haha. Quality of life fixes are what is most satisfying when you get them done. Instantly makes your car more tolerable and like you said when you get a non-vintage car person running shotgun and they are amazed by how fun it is to drive its even more rewarding. I LoL'd when you told Danny, "I didn't do nothing" when he discovered your rubber bumper coating - its the same thing I used to tell my mom when she'd catch me doing burnouts in high school 🤣🤙🍻
Super neatly arrainged sockets and toolbox.Note to self ,,,do that!
how the heck did you pass tech inspection with that battery like that??!! You musta sweet-talked the tech guy!!
I remember those cars well back in my day. Easy to work on.
Great looking Tempest too
LoL when Danny was saying how the bumper was bent. All I could gear in my head was the dudes at the beginning of SUPER TROOPERS. WE'RE ALREADY PULLED OVER. HE CANT PULL OVER ANY FUTHER😂🎉😅🚔🚔🚓🚨🚨🚨
Another gr8 video. I also was all over the place replacing parts on vehicles when working on them. Normal , I guess lol
I've seen a couple of these Tempest over here in New Zealand . You're cool working on and driving these cars, plus its cool your partner is supporting your hobby .
Had a 66 Tempest in high school. 326 Hurst 4 speed.
great friday vid i would check your steering linkage under the the car an see if anything is binding cause some thing maybe just rubbing that can cause the popping sound you hear an yes i would get a 'Steering Shaft U-Joint Couplers cause i had a i think it was a 73 Capri the donut that is between the steering box an the shaft came apart an when you can pull the steering wheel to your chest well you tend not to have steering any more an least i didnt pull it to far so i did have steering enough to get home that was a fun ride also most as fun as driving on 2 wheel going down the road.
your tempest awesome! love the body lines especially the back window and the way its sunk in. My 67 Skylark is very similar.
Great video, you sure are one special young lady, beautiful, talented and well spoken ❤❤❤
Great job ! Beautiful car ! Thanks for another guys 👍
It's the little things seem to take the longest. But that's what makes a great car builder. Keep up the great work 👍
Nice work on all the fixes. That bumper came out great. Cool idea with the engine hoist. 👍🏻
That’s a nice car! You’re doing great with it. Forget the comments about the inner fenders cause you’ll get to them when you get to them! Really appreciate videos from down to earth common sense people! Keep up the good work!
Totally Awesome video. The engine host to straten up the bumper was definitely the 37:25 win .and I definitely would use that technique in the future. You did a great job! Keep it up . I am a ferm believer that women can do just as much as a man can do.
Awesome job Olivia!
congrats olivia on fixing your issues on the tempest
I really liked this vid. The fact you drive it "as is " is pretty cool. The engine as very clean ! Some cars seem to just clip along and love being driven and some seem to fight you the whole way. I just bought a 81 Pontiac formula and we shall see what kind of car she wants to be. It's nice to see you getting your hands dirty !
I love the tempest, keep making it better!
At some point when you get to it, reinstall your front fender tubs. I know you don't get much rain where you are, but since you daily that car having the ignition coils exposed to splashing water will cause you future ignition issues.
Hey every man likes a girl to get dirty. But only for him!! And that Bumper fix was spot on!! That Danny has some pretty good ideas!!!
And after the Bel Air into a wall... is she really sure she didn't back into something with the Tempest😅😅😅😊
Great job as usual, I make a list and do all the easy stuff first so I fool myself I did a lot. Then I do the hard stuff. 😅 great use of that engine hoist 😊
Olivia , You da Best ‼️😃👍 and Danny you her back up
🛻❕️
Where are the inner fenders? If you have them, they would help keep the engine cleaner.
I'm in the process of swapping a '68 column into my '66. Same column as in your car. '67 and '68 were unique in that they used that perforated tube style of collapse versus the sliding tube within a tube they switched to for '69. Because those perforations made the column so weak in bending, they had to use that third mounting bolt at the pedal hanger. I think the aluminum wedge at that bolt is how they fine tuned the column angle at the factory. I was waiting to see if you messed around with that. My replacement column didn't come with that piece so I have yet to figure that out.
Nice job 😂
Best of luck, Danny (Daniel) & Olivia at Gnarly Speed Shop
Shine juice Vice grip og !!!
So Liv. That was a lot of work. 👍🏻& you got it done 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😎
For your battery, just find some all thread and then get a piece of steel drill two holes on each side and get some nuts.
That is a smooth sounding engine.
I think Danny is right you need to think of painting that great car.
I had that noise in my 67 Pontiac and changed things and was told I had to change sway bar bushings. It may be that.
You’re not afraid to get down and dirty. Working at it Olivia is the only way to learn. Thank you for sharing! 💯💕👊
P.S. Dude that cherry picker idea was Gnarly Good😊!!! C wat I did there lol
Did you do the u joints??
I guess you need wheel wells sweatheart. Just saying. Cool GNARLY as well people..
How did you pass race tech with that battery hold down?
There's a Bolt and clamp for that battery hold down. You might have to look for one in a junk yard.or on line somewhere.
Shocks❤❤❤❤
On the battery tray. It looks like you have one welded nut on the tray. Why not weld a nut on the tray in front of the battery? Use two long threaded rods to reach the top of the battery and place a metal strap, with two holes, across the top of the battery and use nuts to clamp down the metal strap..
66 GTO here to 67 Tempest, yes these are great driving cars . Mine is a four speed Convertible . Automatic is better for day to day .I also had a 326 Lemans with a Powerglide Transmission , That Drove BEST ! Pontiac RULES... { LS ? }.
O'reilly thanks for filling their shop with product..
I can see your steering shaft is bent around the header. At time stamp 12:17. It clearly is bent. Probably set the engine on it during I stall.
Great episode most enjoyable. Thanks
What annoys me is ,it isn't my TEMPEST !❤😊
you guys are awesome!! love the cars they are some of my favorites, especially the 56!!
One more vote for paint. My two '67s were pretty.
Take the bumper off, take it down the Chrome shop and they can straighten and recharge it
Is there a reason why there are no fender wells? You might wanna put some on to protect your engine from water and road debris.
It's a rat rod it needs dents as everyone says patina.
A fun video
Nice work Olivia are you two going to the hot rod swap meet on Sunday
There is nothing like doing a job yourself, even if it takes all day.
What happened to the battrie grease gun I hate manual grease guns harbor freight
That's what the rag joint does . Never seen one line up perfectly .
The inner tie rod ends need 90 degree fittings.
Nice job cheers.
An then u can put the c3🎉caps on......lol
Are you sure you didn’t back in to a wall? Lol
Positive! 🤣
That's only for the 56 Chevy's ! lol
GM Battery hold down $9.95 Amazon use thread all with it.
Bungy cord the battery with a small tight one. Easier. 😂
When you hit the wall love, just kidding😎🇨🇦
Who can you recommend for bodywork and paint in the Ventura Camarillo area for my '56.
Not looking for a show car, just decent work.
I can't eye-ball it either but it's just a hobby for me. By the way, what does 417 NPR stand for?
Forget the rust. SAND THE CAR DOWN AND PAINT IT THE FACTORY COLOR. That would give the old girl more respect
Might want to check that there's no hole in the pistons? Btw did you put it in reverse? It's like this guy looks for the worst case scenario?
So, what's with the '87 plate registration tags? Better I tell you now than the L-O-N-G arm of the Law catches you later! BTW, how did the car ever past Drag N' Drive event tech inspections with a David Friedburger approved zip tie hold down???
😎Sweet car 🤘🏻
Youbouth the best
Liv Danny hope you all have a wonderful weekend 💗 ❤ok later
