I'm conflicted since becoming a member. I love getting the new videos. I watch them right away, and it's a highlight of my day. But then two days later I get ANOTHER announcement about a new SMA video. Giddy as a schoolgirl I click on the new video only to find out it's just a reposting of the video I watched two days before.
Sad that in today’s crazy world you have to explain stuff that folks used to be able to think about and then make a decision. We normal folk don’t care about a heater ,squeaky ladder or a lawn mower. All those things are just a part of life and we can appreciate the knowledge you give freely. Thank you and the wife for giving us this content. Bravo team S.M.A.
What you don't realize is that she's probably had this conversation a dozen times.. and he just cut it out every time.. but now that he's actually going to fix it: he put it in the video. :)
Your Mrs. Reminds me of my Mrs. She ran the shop paid the bills, did the taxes and did all the bookkeeping, all while raising two children, keeping house and selling used cars ! Never take her for granted. I lost it all when she past, my partner of 52 years.
You are sooooo lucky to have Mrs. O. here she is, managing the shop, managing the home, shooting wild game and serving fresh venison for lunch, and all she asked for was a little repair on her car!
I have a 2011 Kia Sorento that had exactly the same problem a couple weeks ago, but mine was not locking the doors. Made the diagnostic myself with some help from Kia forums, wiring diagram and basic logic with a multimeter. I took a chance at replacing the relays on the IPM module, but it involve unsoldering jumpers pins between 2 boards to access the relays and it took me about half a day to do it... something a garage won't do. I was really proud after replacing the relays and with all the soldering involved, that everything worked fine in the car after!
Hyundais and Kias are notorious for door locks that won't unlock/open. 3 doors on my daughter's Elantra stopped working. In her case the cables stretched so that pulling the unlatch levers did not create enough movement to pull out the latching thingee. The dealer charged $300 per door. There was a delay because the harness was on back order due to so many being ordered.
@Locokam6: Being an Electrical Engineer and a former Electronics Technician, that is exactly what I would have done! Great job!! You should indeed be proud!
Seeing your daughter reminded me of how long I've been watching your videos. I told my wife, "I remember her doing preschool work on the computer and her or the boys getting told to put shoes on in the shop on scooters." She asked me when I was gonna fix her car.
I was going to post a juvenile comment about getting chewed out, but I live in the UK so am terrified about the midnight knock on the door should I say anything inappropriate.
The SMA channel is the ultimate man channel on the RUclips. The content is not only informative, but it’s also very entertaining. Better than 99% of the network shows on the air right now.
This episode was one of the best! I had an absolutely great laugh and it reminded me of the fantastic mechanic we had for over 30 years. Just like you technically and an absolutely honest person who cares for his customers and treats his employees very well. He had to retire and sold his business to a local shop which seems to be very similar overall. Miss our relationship. He and his family lived catty corner behind us for a long time. Our children went to the same grammar school from kindergarten. He developed Parkinson’s and back problems. Super nice family guy. Take care of your health Eric. Your business exposes you to a lot of chemicals, petrochemicals, toxins and vapors that can be harmful. Please take the necessary precautions to reduce the health risks. All the best to you and your family.
I always worked on the principle that, asking again if I was going to do a thing after I had agreed to do it (whatever it was) put said job back a month ! Dearly beloved managed to delay some things by years ! (even after I finally told her the rules !!) Reliable ain't they ...
My dad ran a TV repair shop when repairmen made housecalls. I grew up with 2 TVs stacked on top each other. Picture on one worked, sound on the other worked. Dad never fixed either TV so we had to switch channels on both to watch TV. What's that saying about the cobbler's kids going barefoot. Here's a tip for Mrs. O: Start piling the dirty clothes in your car. That should be enough motivation to get your car fixed when Mr. O runs outta clean shorts. 😁
I have bought a lot of auction cars over the years. I would get them and take it to my trusted mechanic and have him fix and go through everything. to make them all sorted. Total trust in him and I would drive them for a while then sell them on. Later I started keeping them because I liked them so much. I had several that I had less than 5K into that were worth over 10K. Many I would pass on to people who were down on their luck and just needed a reliable ride. Always good to help people out.
LOL, my father was a great carpenter, could build or repair anything. When it came to our house it took forever to complete projects. Same reason you gave, tired at the end of the day and needed a break from his line of work. Learned a lot from him and learning a lot from your channel. Thanks for the videos, much appreciated. 👍🏻
Mrs. O recognizing you're in the flow and letting you alone to finish tracing the problem makes her well worth the cost of fixing her door! My wife does the same when I'm arms deep in computer code & it's an awesome thing!
I'm not even married or have a GF, and what Mrs.O said even had me in chills!! Love your guys back and fourth along with getting a learning lesson on wiring diagrams as always!
Great video. Rants from both Mr & Mrs O....Trip to Wilbert's. Really enjoyed it. I feel your pain about working on own car. My dad was a floor installer his whole life. Took him years to replace kitchen floor for my mom. Got to be a family joke for so long. Until mom went away for the weekend. Came home to new floor in kitchen and bathroom.
Reminds me of a guy I use to work with. Whenever the wife wanted something done in the house, she'd pack a bag and go to her sisters. Once he was done, he would call, and she would come home to a completed project. Sometimes, days, weeks or even months, but the process worked and kept peace in the family.
Always enjoy your trips to Wilbert's! All of my local yards in northern CA. Are long gone, replaced by Walmart, Tractor Supply etc. I wish We have a few local auto repair shops, usually booked out 3 months! Dealers are getting $250.00 hr. Shops aren't too far behind. It's almost worth the drive back there to have you work on our car!!
These videos are like watching an expert level how to analyze and fix your car's mechanical issues with a huge side of humor. Then we get the added bonus of Mrs O razzing the instructor on camera mid diagnosis, that and the occasional impersonation and field trip to the junkyard. Thank you Eric for another great video!
Just a great mechanic who also knows wiring & can read a schematic, and is honest and a nice guy. ONE IN A MILLION!. Some day, I might decide to drive my Tacoma 6 hours to Eric and have him fix a 3 year wiring issue that's been bugging me Supreb work!
I started watching thus at 11pm last night. Fell asleep. Woke up Saturday morning and started the whole thing over. Cannot miss a trip to Wilburt's AND a Mrs O "fix my car" rant!!😂. Great as always, Eric!
Your a lucky man Mr.O, Wilburts just down the road and a sweetheart wife at the shop. Her vehicle should be first, not last! DO BETTER MR. O! Oh, I enjoyed the diag too.
@@Maulzy23 It's true.. I ran my own construction crew for over a decade... and we had some small Earthquakes a couple of years ago.. and the door settled.. and now it doesn't latch anymore.. and I still haven't fixed it yet, 2 years later. lol. Don't ask me why.. It settled a lot, and there's a huge gap at the top now. So I'll probably have to pull the whole door and just start over... Maybe by the end of the year. :)
@@calholli A top end scan tool with the necessary software subscriptions can be $30,000. 1,700 bucks is a freaking bargain. If there's something out there that can match this icon scan tool for a better price, I'd be interested in taking a look at it.
@@davedammitt7691 Yeah.. having service data is big. But you can get service data from other places too. The only other scantool I've seen with service data was the old Snap on.. and it was $10k last I checked. There may be others, but I just don't know about them. I have an xtool D8 and x431 Pro .. and they both have 'some" data to dig through.. but it's very limited brands and it's not at all complete. I'm not even sure why it's there. I wouldn't even consider it service data.
Some of the stuff you find is amazing! Your feelings are mutual by all QUALITY mechanics working on cars of today! Putting up with all the stuff some people do to their vehicles is real fun!
Sounds like you gotta pick up the slack and fix Mrs O's car! That whole conversation had me rolling. This video has everything that makes your channel great! Good diag, good trip to the pick your part, good repair, and even better Mrs O cameo. You have an absolutely awesome family good sir! Best wishes to all of you.
You gotta love Eric. In the world he exists in if you had a bad outlet in your home, and the electrician quoted rewiring that part of the house and replacing the involved wall to boot...well what else are you going to do? That's basically what the OEM dealerships do to customers every day. Bless the man for being honest. Upstate NY is lucky to have him.
Man, I used to have a white 2011 Sorento and when I saw the beginning I was like “oh hell, he’s got my old car and he’s gonna call me out for all the work I did on it.” So glad when you said it was an LX and not an SX.
I spent 20 years installing aftermarket 'junk' (2 way radios, cellphones, police equipment) along with thousands of tyraps. Needless to say the dealers didn't like us very much.
@SouthMainAuto to be fair ive had a few aftermarket installs come by my shop that were installed tastefully with disconnects for disassembly and not hacked into the oe harness. Its about as rare equinox with a factory timing chain at 200k miles but its a nice surprise once in a while
@@FCSlim We never touched the factory harness. The 'worst' we ever did was piggyback vehicle fuseholders, or scotchlock onto a harness wire. The biggest complaint was all the tyraps , but those can be replaced. Of course the dealer would usually just cut all the tyraps off and send the customer(usually police) back to our shop to have the wires re-dressed.
I absolutely hated under dash work back when. Standing on my head upside down on a never cleaned carpet in the dark. Always a rush job to boot. Glad it's over but miss it. That's why I'm here, i guess. Thanks.
I get the feeling Eric. My wife is ordering parts for 04 Gmc (grand mother car) Shocks, power steering pump, fresh fluid flush, plugs and wires. Then it's my turn after my sister Tahoe is finally fixed. I ordered parts from a reputable dealership. I own the fact I did order the wrong part. No sweat, fill out da form, ship it back with my own funds. They will exchange the part I needed and it's in stock they said. Possibly a 4 day turnaround they said. After waiting on the 2nd week nothing. I let my sister know..she is on the hunt? Nothing, phone calls, nothing. Back to tracing the shipping. Sez they received it 1 1/2 weeks ago. They tell her, we are out of stock. I jump on their website anddddd...they show it in stock. Now she is getting the runaround. We are at the 3rd half week. Sooooo, instead of arguing with them. So I call another dealer, I ordered it. Now it's the waiting game.
You guys are the best, just real, down to earth good people. And I like that your nice to your cat. I just lost mine last week after 15 years, really miss him, the only family I had.
I come here to feel the love, I stay to feel the satisfaction of a job completed. I have been putting off my old lady’s CV joint for a while, it looks like Monday is the day!!!
I have a very spoiled cat that looks almost the same. He was abandoned, we adopted him and now he's a very healthy 13# grey striped tabby, even keeps up his end of the bargain and disposes of the occasional rodent that is brave enough to enter a house with 3 cats and a chihuahua!
I find you to be the most logical of troubleshooters on the internet. That makes you the GOAT. You also make me miss rural NY since I left in '80 for the Navy. I have been back 200 times over the years. I am quite older now. I live in KY the last 20 years, and everything here is fairly equivalent except for the cost of living. But you make me miss NY and the in your face friendly sarcasm that people here get upset about.
Aftermarket stuff is great! I did over 3 decades in 12V mobile electronics. One repair option you may have had was connect to the lock/unlock outputs of the remote start and either directly control the locks if it had relays built in or worst case, add 2-5 pin relays to the outputs to operate the locks. Probably a much less expensive solution that does the same thing. See, aftermarket good.❤😃
And that Mrs O! {Looks around, makes sure the coast is clear and the windows are rolled up} And then proceeds to post the video anyways. Ha, that's the best. You'll fix Mrs O's car cause that's what we would all want.
E, I know you already know this, but I am compelled to mention it anyway…. YOU freaking rock young man! The diag skills, the blindingly obvious work ethic, the sense of humor, the quality of your videos in everything from the editing, sound, video and hands down top tier segways… so so good to watch. Great job as always. Keep up the great work. Even after all these years, I still watch every video of the same things ... LOL ... like I heard you say once, "my viewers don't watch me do brakes cause they don't know how to do brakes"
Eric, you have the best channel. There is always somes gems in your content. Unscripted, relatable. Mrs O's cameos. She is gorgeous by the way. But your step by step diagnosis and repair with commentary and humour is an absolute winner. My favourite. Keep it going, thanks...
You a well deserved tech you do it wright you are a very rich man not only in knowledge but you have a wonderful family I want to thank you for your content Mr o
oh crap. Just turned 65 and bought a platinum highlander. I was riding around with my old garmin for a while to see if I could "trust" the factory nav system. I guess I am now officially old!
“Reversal Rest at Ground” was the term I learned 20 years ago. The lock/unlock motor’s wires are both connected (thru the relays) to ground. Activating the switch will ‘lift’ one… or the other wire off of ground and connect to + battery. Motor changes direction depending on which wire is - and which is +.
You are lucky to have a Wilbur's with all those nearly-new cars/trucks!! The recyclers (junkyards) around here are full of 1940's, 1950's, 1960's and 1970's cars/trucks. When our 2000+ stuff needs parts, we have to buy them new. What an expensive PITA.
Your still golden Eric your lucky Mrs.O loves ya a lot and gives you grace abundant for the day she's an awesome gal. And Hello Gracie and Luna God bless all great video.
We all need someone like mrs O, sure we are fixers, sure we care, but we all need a woman like mrs O to point our collective attacks (repairs, builds, fixes, and problem solving skills) in the right direction… you are a lucky man!
I had a similar experience with a 5.7 Hemi. The fuel pump relay was built in to the TIPM. I ended up cutting the wires connecting the TIPM to the pump and installing a relay I had laying on the shelf. Said TIPM was "on back order", and cost $1,100. I fixed the problem literally for free.
Good evening, I love way you tell each other you are loved , saying it so many time, the world we live in asumes we love , but we do not say it and it can get lose, it feel so go to hear it form your team mate.
I like that move you did, Eric (applauding the other shop for not using the parts cannon). If it had been one actuator doing that, they would have replaced it, but the figured something was not right when 3 of them had the same issue.
Oh nice I asked Wilbert's to send you a shirt or hat like maybe eight months ago as a joke on one of their posts on IG I think. That's really swell of them! They were just planning on what to get ya ol pal
Another great video! You are a diagnostic machine!! My brother is a body man, he told me 6 years ago that vehicles are like a Bic lighter.. disposable... Sad...
Really glad you’re trying the Harbor Freight IKON high-dollar scan tool so that helps me feel better if I ever have to get that tool. I have the older Zurich Pro high-end scan tool that I bought second-hand from a pawn shop, and I’ve used it successfully to program key fobs to a used 2006 Toyota Highlander so that was a pleasant surprise, among other more standard diagnostics, so I can give a thumbs up for the HF Zurich Pro. And based on Eric’s video, the IKON’s screen interface and operations are very similar to the Zurich Pro, so again, that’s assuring!😁👍👍
What is it about the trip to Wilburt's that makes the video magical? Everything about this installment was a hit and a hoot, but there is something inside many of us that resonates with that trip to the wrecking yard. Maybe its that trip "in the wild" where we are alone with our thoughts and all we hear is the breeze passing through the scrap vehicles that gives us a refresh and reset. Anyway, I feel it every time Eric ventures out there.

Look after Mrs O. You know how special she is for you and how much she looks after you.
And some rare cussin. Like it!
Just a great mechanic who also knows wiring & can read a schematic, and is honest and a nice guy. ONE IN A MILLION!. Some day, I might decide to drive my Tacoma 6 hours to Eric and have him fix a 3 year wiring issue that's been bugging me
Supreb work!
I started watching thus at 11pm last night. Fell asleep. Woke up Saturday morning and started the whole thing over. Cannot miss a trip to Wilburt's AND a Mrs O "fix my car" rant!!😂. Great as always, Eric!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your a lucky man Mr.O, Wilburts just down the road and a sweetheart wife at the shop.
Her vehicle should be first, not last! DO BETTER MR. O!
Oh, I enjoyed the diag too.
"The shoemakers children go barefoot."
In dutch we say: :"In the carpenters home the door is crooked"
@@Maulzy23 It's true.. I ran my own construction crew for over a decade... and we had some small Earthquakes a couple of years ago.. and the door settled.. and now it doesn't latch anymore.. and I still haven't fixed it yet, 2 years later. lol. Don't ask me why.. It settled a lot, and there's a huge gap at the top now. So I'll probably have to pull the whole door and just start over... Maybe by the end of the year. :)
At the end of *which* year might you be referring to? 🤔
@@josephking6515 Whatever year he plans to sell the place.
It's true. No matter how much work or fun your job is, at the end if the day we all just want to do something else.
OMG when you blew the dust off the box I lost it!
Impressed at the harbor freight Icon scan tool. Icon makes a great magnet light too
I like it.. but it's high dollar. There's a lot of good competition at that price
HF has come a long way since I used to mail order from their paper catalog.
Never considered Icon until now.
Thank you for making this.
Happy Friday Mr O and you know you have to take care of the lovely Mrs O’s vehicle
I really enjoyed that. Some of the best thinking out loud, explanation/video narration on the ol' interwebs.
I spent 20 years installing aftermarket 'junk' (2 way radios, cellphones, police equipment) along with thousands of tyraps. Needless to say the dealers didn't like us very much.
I don't like you,
they don't like you,
your momma don't like you,
aint nobody like you....
I'm kidding your momma prolly likes you 😅
@SouthMainAuto to be fair ive had a few aftermarket installs come by my shop that were installed tastefully with disconnects for disassembly and not hacked into the oe harness.
Thanks.
"They buy the mack daddy .....yet we got the 1997 Garmon up on the dash." 😂
Thanks Eric O. I wish you were closer so you could fix my broken junk.
Dealer would have quoted three actuators, a harness, and when that didn't work, the module.
My dear departed wife would threaten me with other mechanics too😢 Man do I miss her❤ Good show Eric, always entertaining
I get the feeling Eric.
My wife is ordering parts for 04 Gmc (grand mother car)
Shocks, power steering pump, fresh fluid flush, plugs and wires.
You make boring door lock fixes Fun and entertaining! Not many can do that on RUclips.
Eric O.: "I have a STRONG dislike for aftermarket junk." Me: "Glad you told us that, I did not pick that up, what with the swearing and all." 🤣
You guys are the best, just real, down to earth good people. And I like that your nice to your cat. I just lost mine last week after 15 years, really miss him, the only family I had.
I miss the nice simple fred flintstone cars just two feet for power no remote door locks or windows
I come here to feel the love, I stay to feel the satisfaction of a job completed. I have been putting off my old lady’s CV joint for a while, it looks like Monday is the day!!!
Who can't just be happy when you see the South Main Auto LLC has uploaded a new video its like christmas time lmfao :)
That cat hit the jackpot chilling in the office from being a stray
I have a very spoiled cat that looks almost the same. He was abandoned, we adopted him and now he's a very healthy 13# grey striped tabby, even keeps up his end of the bargain and disposes of the occasional rodent that is brave enough to enter a house with 3 cats and a chihuahua!
Damn Mrs. O put you on blast Eric lmfao
You and Mrs. O are a great couple. It is evident you care and have a great marriage.❤ Best to you both. 😊
You and your interplay with your wife is a hoot! Keep it up 😀😀
I find you to be the most logical of troubleshooters on the internet.
"Still trying me out seeing if I'm any good" LOL, I love a good chuckle in the morning.
Mrs. O is a super star. I particularly like her running over a pedestrian walk zone sign in a Walmart parking lot 😂. You're both awesome 😎
E, I know you already know this, but I am compelled to mention it anyway…. YOU freaking rock young man! The diag skills, the blindingly obvious work ethic, the sense of humor, the quality of your videos in everything from the editing, sound, video and hands down top tier segways… so so good to watch. I’m not in the position to become a member, so I try to like and comment on every video that I watch and I watch every single video to show my support and gratitude for such good content. Entertaining and educational…guilt free viewing at it’s finest!
Thank you Sir ❤
Luv me sum SMA video!!
You are so gifted to troubleshoot electric stuff.. It is really straight forward either it works or not also love mrs O great channel
Good to see kitty living the life.
Great to see a real husband and wife TEAM. Eric is awesome, but the lovely Ms.O is divine. Look fwd to all yalls vids. 😊
Always injoy the lessons.and always injoy the visits from miss O.
Good to hear that IPA is available in PRNY. Thornbridge Jaipur is my favourite IPA here in the UK. Keep up the good work Eric!
Love your factual rant at the end. True words!
Yet another episode that made me and I'm sure many others smile. Awesome channel Eric.
Love watching you and the wife bicker at each other. Great as always.
Happy wife, Happy life. We men folks are procrastinators when it comes to working on our own stuff especially when it cost money.
Your still golden Eric your lucky Mrs.O loves ya a lot and gives you grace abundant for the day she's an awesome gal. And Hello Gracie and Luna God bless all great video.
She's worth every precious minute it will take you to fix her car!
That’s Korean for you. Thanks for including your junk yard run in your video. Lots of treasures in those yards.
Once again you came through. You have such a good relationship. Keep up the good work
I like that move you did, Eric (applauding the other shop for not using the parts cannon). If it had been one actuator doing that, they would have replaced it, but the figured something was not right when 3 of them had the same issue.
Love the wilberts trips. Thanks for fixing Mrs O’s door, as I am sure it’s done by now. Great instructive video
And based on Eric’s video, the IKON’s screen interface and operations are very similar to the Zurich Pro, so again, that’s assuring!😁👍👍
door locks are a pain, just done my LR2....another good video Eric...
