I'm soooooooo glad this channel wasn't around when I turned legal drinking age, because I would be a homeless drunk with an awesome collection of whiskys.
Thanks for doing this review guys! Ancient Age was my Grandad's favorite and he passed away last week. I keep a bottle of it in my Scotch cabinet to share when I talk about him.
you should find a bottle of discontinued Ancient Age '10 year',a bottle of regular A A, and the third the Ancient Age '10 star'...and do a triple bottle review of the 3 Ancient Ages
Totally used your fighting stealing and drinking toast this weekend at a bar in an all inclusive resort. 30 drunk tourist were drinking shots together and I bravehearted the toast as loud and proud as I could. It was a total hit and got a loud roaring applause. As thanks for that I’ll share one I learned. TO ALL THE KISSES WE’VE SNATCHED.......and vise versa.
Daniel... Great analogy with Bread. I bake professionally and when the new guy forgets something in the oven I walk in the room and smell it immediately. I wish I had a nose for whiskey like that though.
I love the knowledge bombs being dropped in this one. Super interesting and I've always been curious about the actual process. Yes I could read about it, but it's so nice to have you explain it.
Hey guys, I want to start this out by saying thank you. Its because of you I have really started to appreciate all the facets of drinking spirits... particularly whisk(e)y. As a former long time party person, I am no stranger to cocktails and shots or horribly cheap spirits... whiskey being no exception. As I have grown out of that phase I had began drinking and exploring beers, completely disregarding any spirits. I had learned a lot about beer, I tend to enjoy the history and stories of the brews as well as the process of how its made (it makes the tasting and experience more enjoyable to me.). Now I am almost 30, living in Las Vegas, and as much as I love beer... I have decided to get back into the world of spirits. I have come to realize that the stories and little intricate details of other alcohols dont interest me, until I really started drinking whiskey, just recently Scotch in particular. From 21 til now I have not ever in my life tried a Scotch, lots of bottom shelf American whiskeys and a few Irish (mostly Jameson)... I started out with a 12 year Glen Moray and a 12 year Glenfiddich, both of which I am thoroughly enjoying because I am taking the time to smell, taste and experience the scotch for what it is. The only thing I am concerned with is falling into a Speyside trap, it is what I am familiar with and although I am enjoying it, I am now finding myself only looking for the Speysides in the scotch section of my local liquor store. What would be a good transitional scotch from Speyside to the darker, smokier and more peaty side?
Got the glasses today! So excited! And I have discovered that the aroma and taste are quite different from what I usually drink out of! This is awesome!
Those of us who have first hand knowledge of this whiskey may remember the Ancient Ancient Age. Not sure what the second "Ancient" means but it's a thing. My parents used to drink this exclusively when I was growing up and it was actually the first whiskey I ever tried. Ah, memories...
Rex, you've asked about double and triple distilling recently and thought Daniel would get into it when he was talking about cuts. Basically, the cuts are what is distilled again in a double/triple distilled whiskey. A distiller will take the cuts and distill them again. This will raise the proof and quality of the whiskey as you're getting a more pure ethanol every time you do it.
After watching this video I'm getting video recommendations for Rock Songs, Antiques and videos on learning german as an Arabic immigrant. Whisky names/descriptions seem to confuse RUclips's not so magnificent algorithm.
I think they're giving you the cork to check it's condition. That includes everything. Dry, cracked, moldy, anything that would affect the wine. Not just squeezing it.
On Sunday I dumped a bottle of Ancient Age down the sink (only about an inch, it had gone cloudy in the bottle) . Today I found out my ticket got pulled in the lottery to buy an allotted bottle of Rock Hill Farms!
Thank you for the cork knowledge. Sniffed my share. I have a small collection of 22 bottles, and the handles of bourbon I have are Ancient Age and Evan Williams. I have a 1.75 of SPEYBURN 10yr too. $24 Had to.
Welp, I just ordered the The GlenDronach 18 Year Old Allardice and Glenmorangie The Quinta Ruban 12 Year Old To make the (70-80%) legendary Macallan M, including shipping from the UK (59$) it was 200$. I'm so excited to taste the 90/10 mix!
Nice episode, boyz! Great info share from corks to cuts and mashbills! And, thanks for coming on down to the bottom shelf and discussing Bottom Shelf Matters! The Triple A - Ancient Ancient Age - I pimp daily is going to cost a couple of more bucks, has a broader flavor profile and comes in at 90 proof. A fine low cost mixer. And admittedly, I much prefer the RHF to AAA. Proost!
Hello to the magnificent mooch and the highbrow hobit. I Am wanting to change things up this Christmas. Usually I will put brandy or rum in my eggnog. Do you guys have any recommendations for a good whisky to mix with Eggnog?
That wine talk in the beginning gave me an idea. I'm not sure if anyone will see this but I think it would be cool--like, entirely as a vanity exercise--if the Tribe could compile a list of restaurants (or bars, but I'm thinking restaurants specifically) that offers glencairn glasses for their whisk(e)y. I guess I'll start--M Sushi in Durham, NC. Imagine my delight when I order a glass of Anika Coffey Grain and it comes in a glencairn.
When you guys mention floral notes, I automatically think of chemically flower-flavored perfume, which does not sound appetizing. Could you explain what floral notes mean? Also, I'm currently binge watching from the beginning (as of posting this comment I've finished episode 80), and after going back to the start, I like Rex a lot more. Just watching from the most recent posts I found him very annoying, I now appreciate the both of you and the great way you play off each other's differences. And lastly, I have a request: Please keep making these videos for at least 3 more years. I am currently 18, and absolutely love this channel, but it will make me very happy to one day be sipping whiskey along side you guys (virtually) and experiencing it with you. Thank you for all the information and fun and shenanigans you provide the world with these videos :)
Glad you're here, and glad you're bring patient :-) When I say floral I think of the way a greenhouse smells when it's full of flowering plants. Slightly floral but also green and earthy.
Whiskey Vault thank you! That sounds a lot better. I'm not sure if that'd be good in a whiskey though. I feel like deep flavors, whether smokey or sweet, would be better than light ones
Hey Daniel & Rex: Any thoughts on Auchentoshen American Oak? Just picked up a bottle, and it's interesting. Also just got a bottle of Old Overholt Rye - maybe do that as another 'budget' review? Love the channel, thanks!
Hi guys I catch your video from time to time I'm a long time shiner. Acitone is actually the first chemical that comes off your still at around 132 degrees
So, crazy idea, I doulbt would do anything other than giving you more ABV, but could you do a slow evaporation on the 40% whiskeys, and do anything for the taste?
My mother claims to hate scotch whisky. “Too Smokey”, “tastes like burnt moss”, “aweful” Is there a mild Scotch you would recommend to help her get over her prejudice fear?
Ancient Age is an allocated whiskey in my state. You're basically put on a waiting list for it and our Sazerac overlords determine who is blessed enough to possess this coveted whiskey. It is actually easier to get Eagle Rare 10 Yr and Blanton's.
Hey guys ive been binge watching all of your reviews over the past couple days and i was curious what other kinds of alcohols do you guys drink/what is your favorite go to that isnt whiskey? Thank you guys for all of the enjoyable content!
Hey, I love scotch, but I have been brewing beer for 4 years. When you all open the distillery would you be open to distilling a batch? The highest abv I have done with a beer is 24.5% and I am curious what would happen if I had a recipe distilled.
There was a bit of discussion about "cuts" here, I was wondering what your thoughts are on "devil's cut," Daniel? I remember it being a bit of a fad a few years ago, so maybe you could review a whiskey and share some knowledge on them? Keep up the great work guys!
So this is random and i am sure most of you feel this way too, but i have been watching these guys for a while and what i would give to be left alone in that room for a couple hours lol.... just had to say that... p.s. i'm feeling very good right now if know what i mean lol
Rex someone i know saw a recent ep and also 1 from along time ago. They said you now look like a hipster/artist. Because of this im sat here with a johnnie walker blue and thought maybe you should do some blending/painting. Instead of paint by numbers do paint by whiskey (johnnie walker colours) I wonder how many new colours you can mooch
We had ethanol affair in Czech Republic couple years back. Blackmarket alcohol somehow got into regular circulation, people started getting sick, some blind, some died. Government proclaimed temporary prohibition on hard alcohol (not beer, we are not animals!) through television. On FRIDAY night. I worked at a pub at the time. Imagine the amount of drunken people, and their opinion on the matter... Goddamn, if that wasn't the most insane shift I ever had.
recently in canada, we had our government controlled liquor stores have a bad batch of some gin slip through, instead of being 40% 80 proof it was 80% 160 proof.
Hi there. I am a new drinker, and recently started binging your videos like crazy. I would love to get into whiskey, specifically bourbon and have been trying to find what I like. It all started by mooching Blanton’s (loved), and Woodford (alright) from my father-in-law. I then bought a Costco size bottle of Larceny (it had a cool bottle), but could not get over the straight acetone taste of it. So for months I have been trying to drink 1.75L of a bourbon I dislike before I buy anything new, and I am almost done! I am now looking at what my next bottle should be. Any suggestions? I have a big sweet tooth, so was looking for something smooth/sweet. Also I am not a big bitter person ( not a fan of coffee or beer for that matter). As an aside, I have mooched a scotch too (Ardberg 10), and while not bad, the taste of peat had me thinking i was drinking liquified moss. So I am not sure If I am a scotch fan. Thanks, and love the channel!
Try out our Top Ten most Recommended for beginners! We did it based on the most voted beginner whiskies from our community in the comments. ruclips.net/video/PoeIPrIXUOw/видео.html
In addition to the list, which is a good starting point, I'd recommend Wyoming Whiskey as an excellent Bourbon. For an unpeated Scotch, I always recommend Auchentoshan Three Wood; it has some caramel sweetness, but also some toasted barrel notes for complexity. However, I just had Bunnahabhain 18 the other day and it was so tasty! It's an Islay Scotch, but is unpeated and not smokey. If you like sweet, and if you can find it, you might enjoy a Canadian whisky from Highwood Distillers: Ninety, 20 year old. Reminds me of Shreddies with brown sugar ☺
Im a little limited to what i can find for whiskys in Canada thats reasonably priced and im pretty sure daniel or rex isnt a fan of sweet, but for anyone else that may want to try it i had made some mead that finished a little sweeter than normal with some cinnamon sticks in secondary, mixed it in with some Bushmills and was actually pretty surprised how it tasted. Kind of reminds me of Apple Jacks Cereal.
So help me get this right. To be a bourbon, it must spend some time in a cask (no minimum). To be a straight bourbon, it must be aged 2 years. And to be bottled in bond, in addition to other requirements, it must be aged 4 years. Is that right?
Just tried Monkey Shoulder on your recommendations. Picked up for under $30 here in MN. I have to say completely pleasant and drinkable. Could definitely use more body and oomph, but again for under $30 nothing to complain about. If I am a huge fan of highlands, but also like a touch of smoke what would you recommend?
Okay, here goes...have you done AA vs AAA, are they really different? AAA shows minimum 2 yrs age. It's also a little sharp on the nose and tongue. Is AAA discernably different from AA, just seeking a little guidance here. Thx.
you forgot step 0.5, acquire maple syrup barrels of various types for aging of whiskey and experimentation.......i mean we do produce some pretty top shelf maple syrup, we also produce many different grades and styles(what most people dont realize is there are various maple syrups for different types of food)
I have a question for both Rex and Daniel. Rex I need a mooch level determination. Im 23, feels like it adds some mooch points. My grandpa is to the age where he can't make the trek from Michigan to Florida. So I offer to drive him down. Now I need to fly up there to do so. Well I'm a bigger guy and I need the wide seats. So my parents buy normal coach tickets for me but I've learned from the best. So by just saying who can put a price on family my coach seats are now a first class ride. In first class you get the 9 yards, dinner, desert, and not to mention free booze. How could I pass up. So I spent a 3 hour flight and a 2 hour flight trying as many whiskey they had available. Plus on this trip there will be a tour of the Angles Envy distillery I feel like this is at least mooch level 53. Daniel on the show or on a whiskey biscuits episode can you guys do a biscuit (team cookie) whiskey pairing. The Woodford Reserve at altitude with the bisqoff seemed to make a damn fine pair. They accented each other extremely well. And with a pairing that well done I don't see how it can even be biscuits, the southern biscuits. The cookie biscuit just paired perfectly. #teamcookie #RRRREEEEEXXXXXXMMMMMOOOOUUUUUNNNNTTTTTHHHHH P.S. I really enjoyed the poor man's blends. Those were really fascinating.
Come on, Rex. There's a chart now. Here's the proper evaluation of Nick Burns' moochiness: First, clarifications. Level 81 is defined as follows: "You hack Daniel Whittington. You get all the gift whiskies he's supposed to get. That's a lot of whiskey." Level 57 is defined as follows: "You've seduced several whiskey-loving ladies, only to move far away. They fight to stay in your life through gift whiskies. You keep them on the leash just enough to keep the bottles coming. There's one in Dublin, one in Glasgow, and one in Tokyo." Now, Nick's story does have some elements common with level 57. 1. The international element 2. Variety of whiskey 3. Relies on the willingness of a friend to participate, for which he/she gets nothing in return 4. Quantity However, there are crucial elements that separate these higher mooch levels from the lower: consistency and deception. If this was an every-weekend type deal, and if the waiter was legitimately deceived, then the level 57 argument would hold a lot of weight. But since this move does nothing for the mooch once he's returned home, and because he was definitely super obvious, he's much closer to a Level 15: "You have a friend who's getting fired from a grocery store. You convince him that it'd be a great "F-You" to the company if he stole as many bottles of whiskey as he can get his hands on during his final days. He doesn't drink whiskey, so it's all yours". Here, we see that the mooch has taken advantage of a peer's situation, has acquired a decent short-term supply, good variety, and doesn't owe anything in return. Thus, Nick Burns is a level 15 mooch. Logic.
Question for you guys. I got started with whiskey around June. My wallet's put in more work than my liver so far. I didn't know the few specifics of an opened bottle's shelf life. 2-3 of my bottles remained at a third of their content from July-August until today. Now that I know this affected the bottle, it's hard to get past the diminished character. I'll get around these bottle just fine, but I have more and more bottles getting past half their original content. I'm a bit worried that I'll get to a point where I end up with a whiskey inventory that's decreasing faster in quality than I can reliably drink it. I've been looking in the options available for preservation (Wine preserver, transferring to smaller glass containers), but I'd like to have your take on these or this problem. Do you use any of these solutions ? Would you not bother with extending the shelf life ? Love the content guys and cheers
Rex is a video professional. He gets paid to do this stuff for a living. If it looks mis-lit (apparently not a word hyphen or not) to us that's just his artisic vision for this particular vlog that we don't have the capacity to understand.
I think craigellachie has legend of a cat, which freaked out, when it was time to cut the body and move the product to feints... or something like that ...
Starting the Wine Vault too now, with this wine talk? Wine Vault, Rum Vault, Vodka Vault, Whisk(e)y Vault. Might as well just call it the Alcoholic Vault at this point
My bottle of Dalmore Bordeax Finesse is just about done. I haven't been able to find many other whiskeys that have been aged in Bordeaux barrles, any suggestions for a replacement that has similar characteristics?
Personally I️ think buying wine at restaurants is for suckers. Don’t get me wrong I️ love me a good wine bar, but whole bottle pricing for what you can experience at home is night and day. I️ see that happening with whiskey pours now. $12-15 for Buffalo Trace, $18-23 for Bookers. Hopefully your good work on this channel feeds into the minds of those people paying those outrageous prices and the effect is restaurants pricing their bottles fairly. Do you guys find yourself giving in to the markup? If so are you satisfied or does it come off as a bad choice in retrospect?
I'm always willing to have whisky with dinner or at a bar. If you're in for bargain hunting you shouldn't buy anything at a bar except soda. I figure the price of whisky at a bar is partially paying for the experience of the evening itself. but having 700+ fancy whiskies at my disposal has completely altered what I choose in public. I mostly go budget whisky when out and about.
Ah! Nice to see that the emperor's new clothes are still impressing you guys :). Meanwhilst, the common man is able to get depth of flavor from Ancient Age. And yes, we can smell the cork because that's a way better method than squeezing the cork. All that aside good video.
If wine is stored the way it is supposed to where the wine is touching the cork, then you can smell if it is has gone to vinegar by smelling the cork up front. It is not a completely useless gesture. Modern wine stoppers are not the same as the cork used in the past which was much more prone to becoming dry, brittle, and flaky.
I love that I learned to not be a cork sniffer as I’m watching an ancient age review. Props on reviewing one on the bottom shelf.
But are you a cork soaker? (Search snl cork soaker if you don't get the reference)
So sorry to hear it, friend.
He's in heaven watching over you from above now.
That’s showing proper respect
I’ll buy a bottle of it & do a cheers for your Grandpa
you should find a bottle of discontinued Ancient Age '10 year',a bottle of regular A A, and the third the Ancient Age '10 star'...and do a triple bottle review of the 3 Ancient Ages
I'm honored for my budget intro to be included in this budget episode regarding a budget whisky
I just turned 21 and this channel has really helped peak my interest on some new whisky's

Try out Highland Park. Glad to have you with us, and welcome to the journey!
“John whiskey you magnificent whiskey” 😂 😂 😂
Lol they forgot “Hallelujah, it’s raining whiskey!”
The age is stated sideways on the neck in very small type - "aged 36 months", or 3 years.
Got the glasses today! So excited! And I have discovered that the aroma and taste are quite different from what I usually drink out of! This is awesome!
awesome! So glad it made a difference!
Evan Williams bottled-in-bond please, really digging it and want to know what you two have to say about it. Love your reviews!

Just scored my first Rockhill Farms today. Didn’t know that it has the same mashbill as Ancient Age. Learn something new everyday.

Bastards - review $15 bourbon against a bourbon 5 times ots price.
I love this channel 😂🍻
I love AA so having said that please explain why you can't find this on the shelf? I can sort of.
Loved the intro
To be honest, I’ve had no idea what to do with the cork for years. Thank you for the info! 😆

The batch is actually not wasted, they can put it back to the still, and re-run. As they reintroduce the head and tail the same way.

Is that right?
yes to all!
For the same price range, maybe Black Bottle or check out Black Bull Kyloe
Some great distilling info. reminded me of my time in Korea when i was able to learn about it from a friend of mine.
Okay, here goes...have you done AA vs AAA, are they really different? AAA shows minimum 2 yrs age. It's also a little sharp on the nose and tongue. Is AAA discernably different from AA, just seeking a little guidance here. Thx.
Have you two booked your tickets to Denmark to visit the Whisky Viking yet?
I think we have to row there in a boat in order to make it official.
No you can fly out but you two have to row the ship back with all the whisky.
well we have some viking boats here in canada, you could sail from l'anse meadows, the vikings did land there so itd be fitting.
Step 1: sail out of Canada Step 2: Secretly Trade ships Step 3: Whisky
you forgot step 0.5, acquire maple syrup barrels of various types for aging of whiskey and experimentation.......i mean we do produce some pretty top shelf maple syrup, we also produce many different grades and styles(what most people dont realize is there are various maple syrups for different types of food)
🤘🏻 RUSH!!!! 🤘🏻 i know neil peart is a big macallan guy. wonder what his thoughts are on macallan m
Some classics right there!
Great Batman-style cork squeak, Chad!
I'm never able to find buffalo trace. What is the closest thing to it?
Come on, Rex. There's a chart now. Here's the proper evaluation of Nick Burns' moochiness:
First, clarifications. Level 81 is defined as follows: "You hack Daniel Whittington. You get all the gift whiskies he's supposed to get. That's a lot of whiskey."
Level 57 is defined as follows: "You've seduced several whiskey-loving ladies, only to move far away. They fight to stay in your life through gift whiskies. You keep them on the leash just enough to keep the bottles coming. There's one in Dublin, one in Glasgow, and one in Tokyo."
Now, Nick's story does have some elements common with level 57.
1. The international element
2. Variety of whiskey
3. Relies on the willingness of a friend to participate, for which he/she gets nothing in return
4. Quantity
However, there are crucial elements that separate these higher mooch levels from the lower: consistency and deception. If this was an every-weekend type deal, and if the waiter was legitimately deceived, then the level 57 argument would hold a lot of weight. But since this move does nothing for the mooch once he's returned home, and because he was definitely super obvious, he's much closer to a Level 15:
"You have a friend who's getting fired from a grocery store.
Logic.
Genius.
Consider yourself corrected, sir Daniel. If you read the tinnnyyyyy print on the label under the cap, you will see that it has been aged 36 months.
I still love how daniek took his glass with him haHaaa
safety first
Whiskey Vault true that, i mean the master mooch is someone you really shouldn't play with ;v
Just goes to show, he will learn his lesson sooner or later.
Aged 36 months according to my bottle.
#review Glenfiddich Project XX (I see it on the shelf next to the 12 and the Macallan) and compare it to Glenfiddich 21. Please and thankyou.
Wild Turkey is my "budget" whiskey.
101 is my daily drink
I like the plastic wrap over the bottle top like the "glad press and seal". But if it gets too low I have to move it to a smaller container.
Whiskey Vault thanks. Will try that
You guys need to do something with the lighting. Sometimes it is just way to bright
only lighting is windows. its harsh sunlight bouncing off the floor. uplighting is the result. sometimes happens in morning shoots.
Maybe you can use some form of diffuser on the windows that you can hang up or remove when necessary
but... but then we'd actually being TRYING to make things good. that's insane.
It would be sooooo insane.... nobody would expect it. So maybe then you can have a go at it
Rex is a video professional. He gets paid to do this stuff for a living. If it looks mis-lit (apparently not a word hyphen or not) to us that's just his artisic vision for this particular vlog that we don't have the capacity to understand.
At just past the 10 minute mark, Daniel catches Rex distracted and pulls off the sneakiest mooch. Who is the master????
Best intro so far
So, Scott Frost to Nebraska. How about that?
Loving a little geek Info this time around!
Lvl 81? Sounds good to me, I’ll have to put that on my business card. “Nick Burns. Lvl 81 mooch”
I want to know what happened to the Blendagedon that Rex made with your lonmorn 16!!!!!!
Rex posted a video about it in the Facebook Whiskey Tribe. It was a stunt barrel/whiskey!
Blink twice if you are being held against your will...
Rex looks younger and younger in each video. Hmmm must be the whisky ( yes I said whisky 😂 )
guys this one is for the fans, which do you guys prefer? bourbon, irish, scotch or any other? and which is your complete favorite whisk(e)y?
Rex, for the first 20 seconds of this you sounded like the Android from Radiohead’s Fitter Happier
Doode!
Deanston 9yo, Bordeaux Red Wine Cask Matured.
I had two glasses on Saturday night and bought a bottle.
Jason Fisk will try to find some to try, thanks!
Did y’all stop numbering the vault episodes?
Yeah. The title changes are better for RUclips results and google searches.
Whiskey Vault
Sellouts 😜
The happened as soon as that Pew guy was mentioned.
I'm drinking a Mai Tai while watching. I feel so god damn manly right now.
What amazes me is it now 20 a bottle now
"Welcome to the Wine Vault"
Am I the only person that noticed the black v neck is now grey for the past couple videos. What chaos is going on
The age statement is actually on the neck. 36 months
Why is the picture so blown out? ISO? contrast? plz
harsh sunlight bouncing off the floor. sometimes happens in morning shoots.
Oh..sunlight? I forgot that existed. #northernmidwestwinterproblems
had to kick the air conditioner on this morning... was almost 80 degrees in my office. 😅
sonofa..
The chemist in me get really appeased on these videos in which "the chemicals" are actually named. Hahahahahuh
The Ancient Age 90 proof is 36 months AS
Boats are sexy? I can agree with that!
Next up Kentucky Gentleman
Duke Wheeler ROFLMAO!
Actual review starts at 3:00
Ah! Nice to see that the emperor's new clothes are still impressing you guys :). Meanwhilst, the common man is able to get depth of flavor from Ancient Age. And yes, we can smell the cork because that's a way better method than squeezing the cork. All that aside good video.
King of komments here
Me in 2023 hearing about the start of the Whiskey Tribe: 😊
I don’t mind ancient age.
