    We entered this matchup into our blind sample pool because they're from the same distillery (Buffalo Trace) with the same mashbill (Mashbill #2). Blanton's is a single barrel, "premium" product in the Buffalo Trace lineup that's highly sought after. Ancient Age is a bottom shelf budget product in a large plastic bottle. In the past, Blanton's has had an age advantage, but rumors are that Blanton's has become younger and younger over the years. With the same recipe and nearly the same proof, does Blanton's stand out as truly special?

      Holy crap! I, too, have several bottles of Blanton's that I'm gonna fill one with Ancient Age! I got the Blanton's from a bar owner friend for $64 in Michigan. My sister-in-law got my brother a bottle in California 1.5 years ago...for $205!!! Somebody below nailed it...Blanton's is a $35 bottle masquerading as an overpriced, overhyped $150 (on average) bottle.

    I found this very interesting, when I started drinking bourbon Blanton’s was $35.00 a bottle and there were 3 Ancient Age expressions. Ancient Age, Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star and Ancient Ancient Age 10 Year.

    This was fun to watch. I've heard that Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star is a step up from Ancient Age; it's $15 a liter and $25 a handle in Ohio. I've had some great Blanton's and some disappointing Blanton's, but most of the bottles I've had were kind of average. I wonder if you cut in a bit of regular Buffalo Trace if you could get the differences even closer? We have such a great hobby, I mean buy a miniature oak barrel and fill it with Ancient Age 90 and a handful of charred oak chips, stick it way back in a cupboard or behind your bar and forget about it for a couple years and then try it. Heck, forget it for a decade and have a 10yr anniversary sip and either pour it off or keep it going adding in something else to develop the flavour!

Yes there is an Ancient Ancient Age and it's even better than the Anicent Age. Ancient Ancient Age is harder to find but, the handle is $30 in the DMV area. When ever I see the Ancient Ancient Age I run to pick it up. Ancient Age is available in the area... I would LOVE to see triple blind test with Ancient Age, Ancient Ancient Age and Blantons....

    I saw Blantons for $200 yesterday in Florence SC. I never see it at any price here in Savannah. Have never tried it, probably never will. Also, I have never dumped a glass of bourbon. I HAVE mixed it with something because it wasn't great (Benchmark 8).

    Of course Ancient Age is Baby Blantons but much cheaper. They are both made by the Sazerac company. Both are made from the same mash bill #2. I just bought a fifth of AA for $12. It is the best budget bourbon to me. Smooth and very mixable. Way better than Jim Beam or Benchmark and the price is right. Wish i'd discovered it earlier.

  • @Secretsofsociety

    Never tried ancient age but I would pass on most vodkas at that price point so I guess Bourbon is just better liquor. Kind of amazes me it can even be that cheap considering vodka is way easier to make.

    My theory is that you put the same stuff in a bunch of barrels and put them in the rickhouse to age- some of them age differently. Which tree is the barrel made of? Where is it in the rickhouse? At some point they go through and select the good barrels for the higher shelf labels, the not so good barrels they use for the lower shelf labels. I'm going to put AA on my list to try. My local store actually has some of it in stock.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  2 года назад

      That's exactly how it goes. The most interesting thing to us is--within a blind tasting--how perceivable are those differences (especially to us, the general public)? It's almost always surprising how close some of the "lesser" products can be to the "better" products in our experience.

    A little over bearing there dude. I thought every individual has their own taste and thoughts on what is an easy sipper or not. If she doesn't think it is an easy sipper then she should be able to voice that opinion without you jumping all over her and speaking over her because you don't think the same. This is not the first video of yours that you have done the same thing if she doesn't agree with you and tries to get her opinion in there.

      Erin here. I think what Josh was trying to get across is that the pours may not seem as “hot” to people who are used to drinking higher-proof things (like Josh is). We didn’t do the best job of explaining that, so that’s our bad. Thank you for your support though!

      @@stuffandwhiskey You are missing the point I was making which is that he very abruptly shut you down when you tried to express your opinion that you didnt think it an easy sipper. That kind of goes against what you both have said in many videos that everyone has their own taste and opinion on any given whiskey. His actions in that and a few other videos did not jive with his words. If you are going to put yourselves in front of a large audience and then not have your actions follow your words it will be picked up on. That being said I love your channel, and usually, your dynamics together. And this is coming from a 56 yr old man who has been married to his best friend and love of his life for 32 years.

      @@exjw8623 Josh here. We talk a lot on camera. Sometimes its difficult to get the point across the way we want. In this particular video, we’d already ran into this exact scenario several times in recent videos where I thought something was an easy sipper and Erin didn’t. And that’s okay that we disagree. I felt like my opinion/point wasn’t getting through though, so I clarified (albeit from a position of frustration as I wasn’t able to get my point across as well as I wanted). I can see why you’d think it was me squashing Erin’s opinion, whereas Erin knew my intent.
