We had the privilege of having Freddie lead our tour at the distillery a few years ago. He was so genuine and happy to talk about what he loves, and answer any question that was asked. It was shortly after the documentary came out.
What a beautiful episode. I'm a retired combat veteran and very sorry to learn of your loss... Thank you for rising from it and creating this channel for us. Subscriber for life now.
I AM NEW IN THE BOURBON WORLD AND TRYING TO EDUCATE MY SON AND I ABOUT ALL OF ARE GREAT HISTORY. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUCH A GREAT EPISODE. BUT MOST OF ALL THANK YOU FREDDIE/MR JOHNSON FOR TAKING TIME OUT TO SHARE HISTORY FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATION. SIR YOU ARE A GREAT MAN.
Gotta say, you are the perfect guy to interview Freddie. Def just reminded me again what's important and to pour out those top shelfers to all people! Thx Randy for bringing this real side of life to a world thats most likely finding it tougher and tougher to share due to limited access.
What a treat! I am a newbie to the bourbon world (bought my first bottle in october) but it's amazing to see how (mostly) positive the bourbon world is. Love the quote "there's no such thing as an empty bottle, it's either filled with whiskey or filled with memories". Just scored my first bottle of blanton's a few days ago, it may collect dust for a month or 2, but damn sure it will be cracked with some friends/family and it will create memories.
I really like Blantons at msrp. Iv only owned one bottle myself but have had a few pours from friends. I wish it wasn’t so overhyped so everyone could get a chance to try it
Wonderful episode. I have 4 bottles left from my days at Stizel-Weller and I have been afraid to drink them as there are no more. But last Christmas my daughter and her boyfriend came home and I started telling my SW stories and we open a bottle of Old Fitzgerald. I wanted to share something special with them and realize that I should not be saving those bottles but sharing them. You and Mr. Johnson just drove that point home again for me. Thank you and love ya!!
Need a bottle named after Jimmie Johnson or the Johnson family. Great story. The story that Freddie shares in “Neat” is awesome! Tear jerker for sure. I’ll be sharing some bourbon with my son when he’s home for the holidays. Love Freddie!
Thank you Randy!!! A lot of times I hold on to bottles cuz I don't know when I'm gonna get another one. It's times to make more memories!!! Cheers Randy!!!
Randy, this is just such a cool interview! What a guy! Congrats on your channel success and it helping to open up great connections like this so that you can share with us. The whisky got it started, but it's so much deeper than whiskey/bourbon! Take that bottle and make a memory, there will always be more whiskey! (sorry for the double comment, but I hadn't finished watching when I made the first one!)
I was able to get a couple bottles of blatons the last few days they are my first ones havnt opened them yet. Thanks RANDY your vids are the best. The message at the end is the best part!!!! Much love folks
I just published a video about Blanton's & realized I still needed infos (lots of contradictory ones I got while preparing my video so it might be containing mistakes) but i added this great interview/video in the description because I thought it was a great one regarding both this brand's story (not to mention the living legend Freddie...) & yours, and of course the overall message of sharing & caring that your video conveys...Sorry I'm not on Facebook but on varied social medias such as Instagram since last year only, so will miss your podcasts but will discover your channel nevertheless & I'm sure it has other great content...Cheers from Paris, France !
Fun and informative interview! We all have special bottles, but you know when someone like Freddie Johnson has a special bottle, it must be exceptional! Would be interesting to know what it was.
It is a CYPB that was one of the last barrels his father put in warehouse before he retired. He was keeping it to drink with his grandson but decided not to wait...just in case.
@@stephenjohsz6251 It wasn't special because of the brand. It was special because of his Dad's interaction with it. It is part of the family legacy...hence the drive to drink with his grandson.
Blantons is a pretty good bottle, and freddie johnson is always a treat. Love his whiskey views and his encouragement to share. I just wish blantons was a shelfer. As a rare bottle i dont feel it stands out, as theres many easier to get and less expensive bottles i prefer, but the problem is the people who freak out on stores about blantons and less the product itself. I say theres always more whiskey to people all the time and some people respond like im an idiot. Its just whiskey man. Treat people well, and the whiskey will return its favor.
I bought a cabinet a couple days ago. I told the guy how I was going to use it. He had quite the Bourbon knowledge. It was an enjoyable interchange. This story was from a few years ago as told by him. He had been invited to a tasting. Upon entering the establishment, he asked where the tasting was. They gave him a ticket, and sent him to the backroom. It was an opportunity to buy whatever you wanted from the table. His ticket was drawn. He got a Pappy since everyone seemed more interested in it. (He had wanted a bottle of Elmer T Lee. They gave him the snob snub.) Immediately he was offered $125 from one guy, and $40 for the empty bottle from another. This is where the secondary markets dirty secret enters. His buddy said to break the bottle or keep it, never sell it. They can fake the tax seal but not the label. They will fill the bottle with something "cheap" and sell it as the Hunt bottle. Loved the story told here in the video. Keep it up Randy.
I give my empties to local artists I know who make things out of them, but if I ever do recycle a rare bottle a deface the label so it can't be used on a fake. I used to break my rare empties, but you can not recycle broken glass. Cheers!
Outstanding. Thank you so much for this content. We can never get enough of Freddy Johnson. A treasure to the bourbon community. Thank you for your insight and heading down there for this.
If you keep looking, and use the techniques we teach on this channel to for relationships with decision makers, you will get one. And when you do open it up and fill it with memories!
@@aaronwilson3948 Some of the stories he told were on private zoom calls. When Rodney and I tried to get him to retell the stories with an audience he declined. So I suspect some of what he told me he considers private, so I will not be telling those stories on camera. I am unsure what you have to do to get Freddie as a guide.
Great video! I had no idea who Freddie was before our BT tour but figured it out quickly between the amazing tour and the number of random people (not on the tour) wanting to take a picture with him!
@@BourbonRealTalk Freddie is one of the best story tellers. I've only had one bottle so far, but I certainly will pick up more if I encounter them. The one I got I had to trade for so finding them in my area is not easy!
I think he would want you to open it, create memories with it, and keep the empty signed bottle. The signature is special, but it does not change the purpose of the whiskey in the bottle. The only reason to keep it unopened is for it's secondary value, and I don't have to tell you how big of a travesty it would be if you sold that bottle.
