I've walked past Wilderness Trail at least a dozen times before I watched this video. I'm glad you posted! WT is now in my top four with Weller Antique, Woodford Double Oaked, and Uncle Nearest.
Great video have tried half of what you showcased, and I agree completely waiting for the larceny barrel proof... Picked up Weller 12 year haven't opened yet but looking to compare....
Great video...I just got some Wilderness Trail and was looking to add the Wyoming. You've been spot on for your recommendations....probably why I love my Knob 12yr so much...thanks Jason!
Great video, great suggestions. Rebel Yell 10 SiB and Makers Private Select are probably my favorite of these, but lots of great options here. Although I still haven't had the Larceny BP. Hoping to see some on local shelves soon.
I work at a liquor store in Chicago. I wish I had a dollar for every time I get asked for Weller, so I end up suggesting most of the bottles you mentioned. Personally, I'd rather buy the Evan Williams Single Barrel over Weller Special Reserve. I've also had a Russel's Reserve barrel pick that was MILES ahead of Weller Full Proof. Thanks for the video! Cheers!
Loved this video! I was gifted a bottle of Weller a couple of years ago and fell in love with it, but it’s been such a pain in the ass to try and track down a bottle since. Thanks for the suggestions!
I watch a lot of WhiskyTube content and this is some of the best I've seen. Great video rich in information, tastefully presented, and paced well. I like to explore whisk(e)y of all kinds and this gave me some great things to try since I feel Weller is just too much trouble to chase these days. Thanks! This video was good enough to get me to click the subscribe button.
Definitely going to try the Wilderness Trail, and Bernheim after a few other bottles get finished. I'd love to get Antique 107, but cheapest price around here is $140.
Jason Great video and recommendations! I would go hunt down Wilderness Trail instead of Wellers. Way too expensive here at $200 for Antique 107. I enjoy the Maker Mark 46, Woodford Reserve Wheat and the core line of Knob Creek. I may look into Wyoming Small Batch. Great suggestions! Thanks!
What a great video! We have will have to try a couple you mentioned that we had not thought of. Side note, we were sent an early preview of the 2020 Bourbon County Stout Anniversary which is aged in Weller 12 Year barrels and wil have that review up early next week. Can't wait to taste have that barrel imparts distinct flavors. Cheers!
Got lucky over the weekend and got Larceny BP B520 when I swung by my store out of curiosity. They JUST received one crate of them that day, so I got to grab one of the three.
That’s probably my favorite video you’ve done! I’m sick of the over hyped and seriously over priced ‘Weller’. Definitely have had my eye on the Wyoming Whisky .. after watching.. I’m going to pull the trigger!
I love how you let your subscribers know what you’re drinking earlier in the video. it feels like we are hanging out and having a pour with you. Cheers.
Hey Jason great video! I recently picked up a bottle of Weller Antique 107 at my local go to, and I saw they also had a Weller Full Proof but was asking $500. Your video hit the mark. Thank you and keep the great videos coming 👍👏
Just new on the bourbon scene so to speak, but I’ve always loved most anything Makers, and have loved Woodford Reserve. Thinking about getting some Larceny soon. Good video on options out there.
Very useful video as prices of Weller's are skyrocketing most of the time & in France too...even the 12 yo...Thanks Jason & once again well done (great series these "best alternative to...") 👍
Great video! Nice recommendations too! I tried the Makers 46 hated it at first then let it sit and open up for a month went back to it...it was AMAZING!! I want to try the cask strength and private select now...I can’t find Weller 12yr or Full Proof but do have special reserve and Antique 101 in my collection (unopened) lol 😂
Had some of the Makers Private Select WV release and it was delicious. I love Weller but absolutely too hard to find and I’m from KY. Makers is slowly catching my eye again.
Saw a bottle of weller 12 and weller full proof in a display, north of $100 I think one was $200. I will have to check the others, have a bottle of Larceny and have been presented all the Wilderness Trail options. Might stock up now before they go up in price ha!
Cool history! Didn’t know any of it! I had a pour of Pappy 12 Lot ‘B’ for $25 🇨🇦 at the beginning of my journey. If I only I had have known what I know now!
I’ve only had the Weller Special Reserve, and not one glass from neck to bottom waa ‘special’. Bernheim and Makers 46 are both delightful, while also cheaper to buy on a good day. But each to their own.
Some of these alternatives aren't available here in Ontario, Canada. I do like the info provided by you 👏. As a newbee to bourbon and seeing Weller's available here. I will try it. So far Wid Turkey 101 is the one I like most for my pallet though.
I love looking at alternative flavor profiles. I love the Larceny Small Batch. Would like to try some of the Makers Mark limited offerings as I prefer Larceny to the standard Maker’s.
Thanks so much for this video, man. I don't have the money or hookups yet to score much/any Weller at this point, so I'm all for alternatives to it. I actually just had Maker's 46 for the first time 2 or 3 days ago and really liked it. Cask strength is on the agenda and I have yet to crack my Larceny barrel proof but I think I'll try for those instead. Honestly, as long as it's good bourbon and what you like to drink, "the hunt" is just kind of stupid and ruins the whole experience for a lot of people. It drives prices up becomes a game. Great video and suggestions here- cheers! -Jeff R. PS: 45th Parallel Distillery out of New Richmond, WI makes a wheated whiskey called "W". It's 4 years old, just south of 100 proof but only available in WI, IL, MI and MN as far as I know. I have yet to try it but have heard good things about it and wanted to drop that in the convo!
Jason loved this video of alternatives to Welller. I don't see myself getting one anytime soon but I do enjoy some of the ones you mentioned today. Funny that I just ordered a bottle of Rebel Yell 100 today. Always loved it since day one but it's getting hard to get down here nowadays. The Rebel 10 is impossible to get, even on line but I'll keep hunting. That's part of the fun. Awesome job as always! Cheers!🤙
I love Weller but it is difficult to find here in the UK and has gone up in price. I think it is now over £50 which is about $66 US Dollars. By contrast, I can get Maker's for £20 around $27 US Dollars. I am looking to try something different though and similar to Weller so your video has been quite helpful.
Great breakdown, Jason (as always!). I love Rebel Yell 100, but it's seemingly getting harder and harder to find in my area. Have you tried Redemption Wheated bourbon? I was curious as to why it wasn't included in this list.
Makers 46 is really good, and it's available and affordable. Wilderness Trail is a new favorite! Larceny BP is solid. I do love Weller Antique 107, but it's impossible to find and the prices often just not worth it.
Not a wheat guy myself, but an older buddy of mine who used to drink Weller exclusively for decades and refuses to chase it down nowadays, swears by Rebel Yell Bourbon. Personally, I try to never get too caught up into any one single brand,... there's just plain too much damned good whiskey on the shelf to be chasing overpriced, overhyped, unicorns.
Good stuff! Wellers has been my favorite for years (great value), but has become impossible to get unless you spend crazy money on the secondary market. The Makers Cask Strength comes from the Weller line and is easy to get a hold of...its a solid substitute.

That might have been true in Kentucky but other states like NY and also Texas had Pappy on the shelf next to Beam at one point. The heist brought national attention on it.
I don't like Weller but oddly I have 4 bottles of SR along with a 12 year and the coveted CYPB all sealed. I got the the Srs for about $25 bucks and the 12yr and CYPB at retail. I think the CYPB was around $50 and the 12 was $40. All within the last year. I got the 12 and CYPB from a promotion through a store. I got beat out on other things I actually wanted and "settled" for what I could get.
So far the only wheater I've tried that I liked was WSR, which I only got to try because my friend's mom got it for him out of state in Georgia while she did a road trip before this pandemic started.
The first 2 have become my favourites. Unfortunately Larceny comes in quite pricey in the UK, coming in over $50...after paying less than half that over in The States, I can't justify it, which is a shame because I thought it was a great bourbon! I hesitate to bring this up but your biggest omission was McKenzie BiB wheated bourbon. Absolutely great wheater. Unfortunately, they are out of it now but, when it returns, it's a must buy. Easily blows away any Weller except WLW and FP.

I always drank larceny when I wanted a lower proof wheater and compared to WSR, it is better and some of the larceny store picks blow it out of the water.
Weller SR is 26-28 here. I picked it up and really enjoy it. I love RY100 as well. I hate makers and every time I have larceny it has an aftertaste that reminds me of vomit. gross.
Interesting, I have not gotten that with Larceny. I have gotten it with WT101 And EWBiB. With Larceny I would get a heavy oak after taste like licking a wood desk.
Please try, McKenzie bottl n bond wheated bourbon Whiskey. It’s 100 prof has complexity, it’s smooth, and at $44. Is not a bad price. Small producer , but keeps up with the big guys.

Glad you enjoyed it! There's some great whisky to come in the future from them.
@@TheMashandDrum How is the WT small batch?
@@thejazzpreacher it's good. That's the rye based bourbon. The black label. Not as sweet as the wheated bourbon but very good
Once again: original information along with unique idea, consumer informative, and no palaver or vaudeville.
Love the frustrating Wellers and my usual wheaters. You've offered at least 2 more I would not have thought about without the video. Thanks Jason.
Great video have tried half of what you showcased, and I agree completely waiting for the larceny barrel proof... Picked up Weller 12 year haven't opened yet but looking to compare....
Great video! I also LOVE Blade and Bow, a Stitzel-Weller distillery product.
I have been lucky enough to get a good supply of Weller Special reserve, the others not so much. Thank you for some options to try.
Great info especially since I’ll probably never walk into a store and see Weller at a good price!!
