DISCLAIMER: I screwed up and left Thomas H Handy out of this list. It is non age stated, but rumored to be 6 years old. It is cask strength and the MSRP is 119.99. I also left off Double Eagle Very Rare which is 20 years, old proof 90/new proof 101, MSRP 1999.99. Maybe my largest crew up of the podcast ever...I left off the high rye rye whiskey mashbill that they make EHT Rye with. So EHT Rye is not the same mashbill as sazerac, THH, Saz 18, or VWFRR. I have been told that ER is not a batched product, but that the automatic bottling line processes one barrel at a time. Since there is mingling of whiskey in the lines they removed the single barrel designation. Lastly, the slide before ETL, Blantons, RHF, etc says Mashbill 1, and it is actually Mashbill 2. Sorry!

My good friend works at Buffalo trace, he sent me a Weller and a handy& Schiller for Christmas.
Awesome information,
And sir, i love you too.
God bless and a merry Christmas.
Sounds like a good friend. I have not tried the handy& Schiller. Love you too and Merry Christmas.
As someone who not only loves bourbon, but has once been down that dark road that your brother knows all too well, you've earned a sub in me. Cheers, and thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your kind words and for subscribing to Bourbon Real Talk! I'm glad to hear that my channel resonates with you. Is there a particular topic related to bourbon that you would like me to cover in a future video?
Wow. Who knew there'd be such a powerful gem near the end of this video. I'm so sorry for your loss, Randy. You're a good man and you are loved by all of us. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the encouragement!
This has to be the best video I’ve seen breaking down the Buffalo Trace lineup. All the info is greatly appreciated. Kudos!
Glad it was helpful! I did leave out Thomas H Handy on accident. Check out the disclaimer in the description for missing information.
Another incredibly well spoken and well presented video. I only wish those MSRPs would make their way to the shelf stickers. I’m paying double to triple those prices here on Long Island.
Sorry to hear that. Buffalo Trace products have enough demand that stores have started to jack up the prices way beyond MSRP. Just know it is the store doing it and not Buffalo Trace.
@@BourbonRealTalk oh absolutely. It’s a crime but as a new collector, I buy them when I see them.
The store that i work at in Arkansas sells all of our whiskey sells at a straight mark up. First come first served.

I second Heaven Hill!
I always appreciate that you share why you have this show. Thanks for the info and spreading love. Cheers!
My pleasure!
Really appreciate how well you broke down the Buffalo Trace line up. Very informative!
Thank you. I made some mistakes, but I corrected them in the description the best I could.
Randy, what a great video. Everybody in the community should watch this. Incredibly informative. We appreciate you so much and what you do for the Bourbon community. Thanks for breaking things down and making them easy for us to understand. Cheers
Thank you. Made a bunch of mistakes in this one. Please read the disclaimer in the description.
New to your cast. Love it! I’m a big fan of Buffalo Trace products. Spend lot of time searching for bottles. Now you gave more to find.
Awesome! Good luck on your hunt!
I love hearing the MSRP because I don't think I've ever seen a single Buffalo Trace product at MSRP in my area. I would LOVE to get some of these for those prices. Heck I just paid $60 two weeks ago for a bottle of Eagle Rare because it was the best price I'd seen in weeks. The only bottle of Weller 12 I've seen anywhere was $350.
That is crazy. I am hoping that Sazerac having more sale reps in the field will curb the price gouging, but so far I have not seen anything slowing it down.
Bro, one of the most interesting videos I’ve seen…and I view a bunch. Also didn’t know why you got started in the biz, kudos. The world need more of you.
I stumbled into the opportunity to start The Prideful Goat with Kristopher Hart and Gulf Coast Distillers. I don't like selling the marketing influence of the channel, because there would be a question as to my motivation...good product or money. This way I can promote a product I created for my viewers and feel good about it. Thank you for the support!
Excellent video. Very informative. thank you for breaking it down like this. And said it before and will say it again....love the way you end your videos. Its great to see people who care. good on ya

No trolls here man, sorry about your brother. Much love from PA. Life is hard, life is great. At a profit if we can, at a loss if we must, but always fine bourbon. Thanks for your show. Fun fact about eagle rare used to say single barrel but blended 2 barrels. The regulators came knocking and they took the designation off the bottle
I knew that, but I have never been able to understand the facts of the situation. The official story was that some bottles would get more than one barrel in them because the bottling lines had not been emptied. Given that they have several other single barrels it seems unlikely that they would have bought a separate bottling line to do ER that didn't comply.
One of the first things I learned about liquor is that when it comes to flavor the same swig can have multiple flavors. All that liquor talk that some folks make about the flavor, depending on the liquor it can be real or it can be a bunch of guys trying to appear sophisticated.
Whiskey after habanero sauce - same with a lot of Thai and Indian dishes. Any food that will make your tongue switch on the fire alarm gets distance between it and my bourbons. 🥵
Just wanted to say I always appreciate your sign off. Why some get any satisfaction out of trolling is incomprehensible. And your tribute to your brother - I feel for you. I tend to watch your videos on Fridays now because your sign offs set my mind and spirit up for a good weekend. Thank you.

Great show. Love the closing message.
Not a huge fan of the way Buffalo trace does their lineups. It’s confusing and I believe the individual branding under the parent company is part of what leads to unwarranted hype, overpurchasing, and huge secondary market markups. Thank you for helping to clarify what brands use the same mashbills and the difference between the aging and proofs for each brand. Buffalo Trace could consolidate a lot of those brands under one with different series/release names and make this a lot less confusing but I’m glad we have someone like you to help. Kudos! Keep up the good work good sir!
All the distilleries do this. I am going to do some of the other distilleries soon. Hopefully I don't make as many mistakes as I did in this one.😂

Just found your channel. Really enjoy your presentation. Really conversational. You clearly know bourbon and are really enjoyable to listen to.
One suggestion, I would consider making a graphic with bottle name, proof, and price when you rattle that information off. I just think it's easier to digest all those numbers. Again, just a suggestion. A small thing to further enhance your production, that's already at a high level.
This is a good idea. I will pass it onto Wes who is the producer.
Wow - a powerful ending to the video!! As for the video in general, this is one of the most informative videos on bourbon that I've ever seen!! I have tried some of these from this video and Buffalo Trace is one of my most favorite distillers. The MSRPs you quote surprise me, either due to my area or my retailers ability to mark up. For example, the Buffalo Trace bottle you said had a MSRP of $20 something and I paid $50 something!! I couldn't find it and when I did they said that was the price! Oh well. I enjoyed it. That is what counts. But, yowzah.
There are a lot of things that affect price like shipping, taxes, wholesaler/retailer margin, but if you bought a bottle of regular BT at $50 that means the store is marking up rare bottles more than they need to. We call them price gouge stores. It sucks because customers don't know that the distillery isn't getting any of the extra money. BT made around $10 on that bottle. The wholesaler made something like $4.25, and the retailer was supposed to make $5.75, but instead is making $35.75 and affecting brand perception without the brand owner getting any benefit. I have a series of videos on this.
Great video!! I noticed your mash bill year slides were off from what you were saying but only because I was taking screen shots to share with friends later.
There are lot of mistakes in this one. I said some stuff weird, left off DEVR, and THH. There was so much research I just screwed some stuff up. Unfortunately after we publish we can not edit.

Love this video. Great summary of the line up. I also love the premise of the channel. So glad I found it. Btw the thing about whiskey in America having to be age stated if under 4 years, that only applies of it is labeled as "Straight" whiskey. Straight whiskey must be atleast 2 years old and, if it is under 4 years, must be age stated. So sorry if this was already said, I couldn't find it in the comments. Cheers and keep up the great work!
Correct. I have this standard post put together when people ask the question:
There are three age statement laws in the US:
1. Straight is 2+ years, but 2-4 years requires an age statement and above 4+ years the age statement is optional.
2. Bottled In Bond is 4+ years and the age statement is optional
3. Anything labeled as whiskey in the US 0-4 years old must have an age statement, and above 4+ years the age statement is optional.
Great info; thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

You forgot the Thomas Handy Rye. at around 130 proof it is quite interesting.
I was in New Orleans over Christmas and bought some Sazerac handles for $39. 750 were 19.
As an addendum concerning spicy food - it is also not a good idea to drink Bourbon THEN have very spicy food. I had "Thai hot" green curry after sampling several Bourbons and it hit me waaaaay harder than usual. I assume the liquor strips away the protective mucous lining and leaves you way more vulnerable. The back of my throat literally felt like it was on fire.
I made a handful of mistakes on this one. If you read the video description I added the missing information there.
Good tip on the spicy food.
@@BourbonRealTalk also, nobody ever mentions them, but there are three buffalo trace kosher products: wheat recipe, rye recipe, and straight rye.

Great video as always. I really enjoyed the fact that you covered all of Buffalo Trace’s lineup…well almost all of them! How familiar are you will lineups that Buffalo Trace makes for Private labels for specific liquor store companies?
I am not familiar at all. I have been under the impression that BT has stopped producing for outside brands, but I could be wrong.
I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for this one because I recently went to Buffalo Trace distillery for a tour. So much to see there. I’ve been looking for Blantons so long and can’t find it or I’m a minute to late to see the last bottle walk out the door. Being in the room where they bottle it and still can’t have one was a killer. When I drove home and a week later in stopped into my favorite liquor store. By the way I live in Michigan. There were two Blantons there. I walked out with both! I only felt good about that because it was just me in the store. Lol … Great videos thanks a lot!
Thanks for your support and glad you enjoyed the video! It sounds like you had a great experience at Buffalo Trace distillery and were able to finally get your hands on some Blanton's. Enjoy those bottles! Do you have any other favorite bourbons you've tried recently?
@@BourbonRealTalk I did buy a bottle of the Jack Daniels single barrel, barrel proof. I’m not a big JD fan but the store owner was giving taste samples. This bottle dropped my jaw. I bought two bottles and gave one to my neighbor as a gift. I also bought a bottle of Belfour black label due to your video… I haven’t come across the silver label yet. Did a tour a few months ago, forget the number but when they opened several barrels of Pappy 23, the barrels were totally empty
Yes, those are called Phantom Barrels, and they are the nightmare of people who buy barrels. For an old barrel you might be paying 4-6K only to find out the barrel is empty.
I have been slowly building up a whiskey collection for guests.. mainly to feel like an adult. Otherwise, my cubboard would be filled with cookies and potato chips.

@@BourbonRealTalk No worries, was still a very interesting and helpful tutorial. I have shared it several times with my local bourbon buddies.
I heard someone review, they said if you mix 60% special reserve, and 40% 107 antique. An let it blend together for a week or so. That is close to old pappy.
I have had many Poor Man's Pappy blends. They are good, but they don't taste like Pappy Van Winkle. They just don't have enough of that barrel char flavor that comes from years on a barrel.

Great video
Thanks for the visit
Greta video however you misspoke several times. Straight whiskey needs to be aged 2 years minimum not 4. Bottled in bond is 4 years minimum, easy to mix up the different requirements on the different requirements
I made a lot of mistakes in this video, but this was not one of them. I said it is a straight and then I went on to say any whiskey in the US under 4 years must have an age statement. This rule applies to ALL whiskey and not just BIB.
@@BourbonRealTalk gotcha, sorry I missed you saying that under four years has to have an age statement. Thank you for the clarification. Love your videos and especially your message at the end always hits home to me. Some days I skip just to your end message.
Sazerac Rye to me is very good 🥃⚜️ can get it here in Colorado for $29 but seen stores selling it up to $99 very cool looking bottle too
I do like it. Very classic looking.
I'd love to hear about some of the unofficial lines like Black Ridge sorts of products. In fact, how does that work not just a BT, but in general. Love the show.
Generally a large retailer will have a relationship with a wholesaler who is essentially a clearing house. The wholesaler in this scenario doesn't warehouse product or have field reps pushing it to the general public. They get it in from the producer and put it on a truck to the retailer. In exchange for this "pass through" service the wholesaler accepts a much lower margin, and in some cases a per case flat fee. It is essentially free money for the wholesaler because they bear none of the risk. The retailer and or the wholesaler then goes to a "producer" and offers them guaranteed volume with no risk, in exchange for a low profit margin. The producer either has to have their own liquid and be willing to sacrifice it, or they have to contract to get it from someone else. This all works because major producers have brand/price expectations in the market. Let's say 1792 is going to sell for around $30 a bottle, they could sell it and make their normal margin, but if gets put in a Chestnut Farms bottle that can be sold for $50. So the producer either maintains margin and the independent bottler allows it because the end line price allows for it, or the bottler works at a low margin for volume. So let's say in a normal situation a bottle was going to go from the producer at $30 to the wholesaler. The producer's cost is around $19.50. The wholesaler markes it up after adding in state taxes and shipping and they sell the bottle to retailers for around $48. Then the retailer marks it up and sells it to you at $64. In the "house brand" scenario the producer sells for $23 to the wholesaler instead of $30. The wholesaler sells the bottle to the retailer at $34 instead of $48. The retailer still sells the bottle for $64, but their margin is 47% instead of the 25% they would normally get. Hope that makes sense.
Excellent, but I wish you would have said how much each bottle are actually being sold for to the general public.
Since the stores pick their prices, any information I shared would be arbitrary. The price is different at every store. I have even seen a bottle for $699 at one location and $899 at another location and the stores were part of the same chain.
Rock Hill Farms, Blanton's and Hancock's slides in your video all say Mashbill 1 LOL
Yes, When Wes was making the slides he duplicated the first slide and didn't edit it. We didn't catch it until we had published, and you can not edit a video after it is published. Sorry about that.
@@BourbonRealTalk No worries! It didn't throw me off, just didn't know if you guys caught it, too. Still one of the most informative videos I've seen! Cheers!

Eagle Rare, not technically a Single Barrel is a continuous fill bourbon without changing out the hose system from one Barrel to the next! Its almost a Single Barrel
I know they changed the label when they switched from hand bottling to an automated system. I was not aware that the system loads one barrel at a time.
Just wanted to second this! That’s also my understanding.
Really well thought out video, also helps to make sense of your shelf organization! If I could pick one bottle at MSRP what would you recommend? I’m a big fan of the Weller line… and though despite the haters I do love some Blanton’s lol
My favorite value play is Weller Antique.
