And here I was certain I'm sick to death of covers of this song. But damn I was wrong and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
This is pure magic!
exactly my thoughts! heard so many covers but this is unique ❤
Exactly,,,truely refreshing
Check out the version K.D. Lang did at the Vancouver Olympics opening ceremony.
@@dsteinhil will do.
Overused and abused, indeed.
This gives it some fresh spice and life. I approve!
Every time I think I have Scary Pocket's style defined... they step up and invent a new genre of funk. And WOW, this one went somewhere beautiful! That singer makes me thank the lord I have ears to hear and feet to tap.
That "musician's nod" @1:00 was how I felt thru the whole clip! Jack standing up was the cherry on top lol. Good stuff!
I have no words to describe how much I love her voice
magiiiiiiiiiiicccccc
I heard there was a funky chord that David played, and it pleased the Lord, but you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this:
the ninth
the ninth
the minor ninth
the major ninth
Judith Hill should sing everything. This is DOPE.
Can’t talk about this without mentioning the talent of the background singers and the fact that percussion is KILLING it. Love it.
There's a cycling list of vocalists that, when I see they're up, I just know it's gonna be good
Percussion? You mean the drummer, TaRon Lockett, who happens to be spending most of his time playing with Cory Henry - sure he is killing it :D
Having both Mario José and Therese Curatolo do background vocals on this track should ensure that talent is well supplied.
Zaki Wasik he’s crazy good, but he’s playing with Cory Henry? That’s amazing, though not a surprise because dude is obviously crazy skilled. And Cory Henry...that man is a magical wizard. It’s almost not fair for one person to possess that much talent. I could listen to him for hours.
@@stevencarter511 He's playaing with Cory since 3 years ago almost. What a team!!!!
I'll be honest, I didn't think this would work. I was WRONG, you guys ... pulled it off. I would never have thought this song could work outside its traditional arrangement. Even the camera work was fitting. Starts with some cool drumming then surprise, Hagar is back, then Judith starts singing and she lets us know this AIN'T gonna be any Hallelujah you ever heard before, THEN the camera reveals the back-up ... SICK, these three are all STARS. Jack & Ryan, it's shit like this, that makes me ... LOVE YOU GUYS.
Haha thanks man!!! Appreciate you!
Judith's voice is insane...... gosh she deserves to be heard
right? she should be a household name by now. shes almost there. she just need 1 hit song!
She was Michael Jackson's backing vocalist! What a voice.
Well, more! Actually, she was chosen to sing duet with Michael's final "This is it" tour. see ruclips.net/video/q8Hwp_xF_GY/видео.html
(sorry for screwing up the English)
Nagy Tibor I know! I watched it couple of times:)
i jumped in my chair. i grew up with the «This is It» CD. haven’t seen her since😊
Well, actually, Prince produced her a complete album.
I still don’t understand why Judith isn’t a household name! She is the real deal!
Seriously, though. She's got such a powerful, soulful voice - and so incredibly humble and kind.
she doesn't have the right vehicle (vehicle) for her voice. and she can sometimes sound old-fashion.
me either! she has it all i thought..shes a package..she just need just the 1 right song...i hope she doesnt stop trying! she's almost there!
Our music industry is a sham full of Ariana grandes now.
@@ericagarcia1333 Yeah, it's all trash.
...you guys did the impossible: you made this tune danceable...
Not just danceable my friend. I was close to shouting and I ain’t even religious. Hallelujah!
My favorite covers are the ones that infuse new poetry in the original lyrics, and man, this did it for me. It totally inverts the meaning of the song, especially when the cold and lonely hallelujah is followed by a joyful group of voices singing it
Yes! Praise instead of profane
I like your use of Major VI when it's typically Minor vi. And then the Flat-major VII, Natural-major VII, and then Major I to get back to the verse. Brilliant!
Hell yeah Major VI is my JAM
Forget about all these technicity vocab and enjoy the vibe🕺🕺🕺
Ah, yes, the Major VI is so good! You can see I definetly know what I'm talking about, since I liked your comment and am posting a comment myself in agreement.
@@dudumangs7140 Haha I completely believe you XD
It is a simple and intelligent arrangement but it feels so natural and powerful that I might actually start to believe in god if I listen to it everyday.... x)
Yasssss, Judith! Happy to see her back in the scene - she has a beautiful voice!
Amazing - didn't know it was possible for this song to sound so upbeat! 👌
00:40 got me of unprepared (some naughty reharmonizations going on there!)
Why isn't Scary Pockets a household name and why oh why doesn't everyone know Judith as well. Simply in love. I'm forwarding the band and Judith to everyone I know. The band is incredible. Background singers pure magic...this is beyond great. Making a good 2020 memory for me.
Judith Hill + Hagar Ben Ari feat Scary Pockets -> Great song- Soulful version .... « I've heard there was a secret chord » : You found it guys ! #Hallelujah 🎵♾💫🙂
That was so funky you guys may have just risen the dead, I think i heard Saint Leonard rattling his bones in there somewhere tonight!!
Finally a good cover of that song !
ooooohhh this is way too short, this needs to be made into an extended, say 6-7 minute version at least because we wanna hear more :) JUDITH YOU ROCK! PURE SOUL LIFTING MUSIC
TaRon Lockett on drums is like getting a flamethrower to light birthday candles. Job = done.
Hagar Ben Ari and Judith Hill in a single setup? What wizardry is this?
Yes, magic indeed. Who could ask for anything more?
By the end I was really hoping it would go straight into a shout chorus, but always leave 'em wanting more I guess. Amazing cover.
That was truly amazing.
The young gal on bass was completely on point.
No need to even say anything about your lead and back uo vocals.
The rest of the band I am familiar with... all top notch players. 👍😂
The "young gal" is a 40-year old professional bass player. ;-)
Spot on. Got the groove, the presence, the vocals... We got some mighty fine soul funk goin on right here
I only clicked on this because of Judith Hill. My first thought was that a funk cover of Hallelujah would go over like a lead balloon. She killed the hell out of this thing. Love her voice.
THE BEST cover of this song in the whole wide world. DANG!
It takes skills to bring something fresh to such a well-trodden path. Nice job.
Uh....okay....wow!
I hate this song unless your name is Leonard Cohen Jeff Buckley or apparently Judith Hill! because oh my God I think we know now how Aretha Franklin got reincarnated! Her singing is nothing short of remarkable and the arrangement is killer killer 💪🔥💪😂
Wow! Such a treat. Judith pulls the best out of everyone! Goddess of the vocals. Awesome arrangement!
EASY- THE COMMODORES
DO IT
BRING KENTON BACK ON FOR IT
I can’t STOP LISTENING TO THIS
Damn Judith Hill has been slaying! More covers with her pleaseeeeeee!
Judith took it to the top!! Wow of course the backing vocals as well!
Drums fucking slayed! Holy shit.
Mario! What you doing back there?
I gotta admit i was sketchy about how this would go when i first saw the post.... I mean this song is damn timeless and so many have failed trying to do covers of it....But man there is so many tasty parts to this, that try as i might to not like it, i found i couldn't stop listening.
Well played Scary Pockets.
Judith Hill AND Funk Apostle TaRon Lockett? Hallelujah! 🙌
This is pretty amazing. Judith Hill knocks it out of the park. The three "accidental' backup singers really blend this all together.
Mario Jose on back up vocals? Dope!
Even more impressed now I've watched your behind the scenes video and see how you fitted in the backing vocals at the last minute. Awesome arrangement and performances!
IMPRESIONANTE... 👌
Funky indeed! I don't know anything about theory yet, but just wondering, in this version was there a "minor fall" or a "major lift"?
no. and that entire line really bugs me --- "the fourth, the fifth... " no longer matches with the music at all. (of course it's a cool progression in its own right, and otherwise a brilliant cover)...
Holy moly this is incredible! Leonard Cohen would be proud.
This song is still one of my favs. It’s been covered to death. How do you respect this tune and breath new life at the same time? Just 👏 like 🙌 this 🔥. I never thought I could say this song was funky, but dang.
Judith Hill is truly a gem! Insane talent! Also kudos to the musicians and background singers!
This one will go far... So fresh. A new Scary Pockets classic. Congrats to everyone involved
At last, a version of this song I can not only tolerate but thoroughly enjoy!
awmperry do you not like the Jeff Buckley rendition?
Jakin Yang Nope - particularly not that version. I dislike the song more for its associations than any fault of its own; too many films, TV series and memorials have used it as a lazy shorthand for “this is a sad moment” that it always comes across as trite and clichéd now. It’s a great shame, since it’s musically such a great song. And that’s the advantage of this version; it’s a completely different take on it, which lets the musicality stand out from the baggage that usually accompanies it.
Easily one of the best vocalists you guys have had on here. More Judith please!!!
Yeah finally Taron Lockett on the drums! I love him, keep up the great work!
*Amazing song and incredible performance! Love to play it too!*
So much talent in every performance
the drummer uses to play with Cory Henry, right?
A zillion upon a zillion likes. Oh oh oh Ms Hill!
awww . such a beautiful reharmonization!!! so so so beautiful!
2 minutes and 38 seconds ! it's too short, i want more !!
Amazing!! Can't stop replaying.
You guys should cover Mad World by Tears For Fears!
Shit that's a good fucking call right there
Holy shit!!! That’s incredible!!
They can add funk to literally any song it’s simple incredible
Funk is the gods beat for sure
thank youuu guysss lov the bassiste love sam love the percussion JUDITH IS NEW ARETHA FRANKLIN kiss from argentinaaa
Podéis escuchar la versión de Enrique Morente "Aleluya", otra visión de un gran tema. 🔥🔥🔥
Bees again here.
How is it possible that the channel has more than a million subscribers, yet this video only has a bit over half a million views? They don*t know what they're missing!
y´all are awesome!
Blessed and baptised by both Prince and Michael Jackson. Nothing else needs to be said. Her voice is EVERYTHING. This era does not value incredible talent.
Wow again and again! Judith Hill omg! I am missing words! You are all amazing! Your videos give me so much joy in this difficult time. Thank you all!
Love from Germany!
Yo Ryan that pomp is righteous man. You rockin' it while rockin' it.!
Wow! What a bit of Gospel-inflected funk! Judith is just OFF THE CHAIN on the vocals! (And of course Hagar is always a treat for the funk-loving ear, as well as a sight for a sore eye.) The only thing I don't like about this is the length; I wanted it to be at least a half-minute longer!
OhhhhhhhhYessssssssssss!!!! Super hot, so damn tight...this sheds a lotta light. Addicted to the funky down bass and beat. Hagar, TaRon !!!!!!! Everyone: SuperStars is what you are. Love this and thank you!!
Awesome!
To take a solemn and tragic retrospective song and transform it into an uplifting moment of pure joy? These are strange, and wonderful days we live in people. Strange and wonderful.
I feel like this is so much better than all the "sad" fuckboys and basic girls that just go way over the top with their singing and vibrato and falsetto. This is simple and complex enough at the same time. It just makes me feel groovy.
Holy shit. This is a song i cant stand anymore but the arrangement was so incredible that gave me chills. And the singer just nailed It! And also, loved Taron's debut here. Didnt see that coming!
How is it possible that you guys make this song even better? OMFG!
This is the best thing to happen in 2020.
Everyone of the singers on Scary Pockets is amazing, without question, but I love watching the dude on key boards. His facial expressions make the session... total funk master.
Bravo
GODDAMN! It's not often that I get slapped in the face so early in the morning. WHEW!
wowwowwowwowwowwowwwwwww.......Best version i ever heard!!!!!!!!! Shit im addicted....Listen to this every night i come home from the mine...Gooooood starter for the daylie( nightsession with pomplamoose and Scary pockets...
You can't out-Cohen Leonard Cohen ... smart move not to try 👍😊👍
This is one of THE BEST versions you’ve done and YT vids EVER! Superbly funky and soulful singing! ❤️❤️
That's Mario Jose on backing vocals! He never gets enough credit
The first 50 seconds sounds like the original if you play it at 0.75x speed ;)
This is my favorite one yet.
What a breath of fresh life into a stale and over covered song! Everyone was on point; the amazing Singer, band and backing vocals! Wonderful job to you all!
Really love this cover! Lovely drumming and creative arrangement! Can't wait for the next collection of songs! Love from Sweden
So good. Bumped into this from a comment on Rick Beatos channel talking about H.E.R.
The background singing is on point!
And Jack Conte, a founder of Patreon, playing keyboards.
She should just front Scary Pockets, this is better than the original and so was shook me all night long Edit: LOVE the modulation that starts the ending
That woman could read the phone book to me and I would still get chills
Omg, this version is amazing! You guys are so talented 😄✨🎵 Therese, I CAN HEAR YOU QUEEN 🥺💕
I was ready to hate this but it turned out to be a magnificent version ... love, love looooooved it!
Ruined a great chord progression. Sorry. But not this one. Nope. NEXT!
She has Aretha Franklin sound. Love it!
It thrills me that much.. and remembers me of a good friend, she is gone but i feel her vibes in every note of that song .. best cover ever .. love it❤ thank u for that! 🙏🌈
