- I think this is the best version of this song. Decide for yourself :)
The pictures have nothing to do with the song either.
Not sure if i can put this on here but what the hell..
Hope you enjoy the song...
This, in my opinion, is the absolute pinicle that song could possibly attain. Nobody, single or duo could possibly sing this song with the same "gusto" and intent and truthfulness that McDonald and Baldry
Wonderful song, wonderful guy, we were friends during the 1960-80's, sadly missed xx
Best version I've ever played on radio in my 38 years in the business. I miss John Baldry. He is the person, about whom, Elton John wrote the song "Someone saved my life tonight", after John Baldry talked Elton out of marrying a woman in the early 1970's, knowing Elton to be gay.
I just decided this is my favorite version over The Righteous Brothers! These two in duet with this song is simply unforgettable.
this song was huge in australia, number #2 in 1980.i remember it so well, and always loved it.i was 8 when it came out,and it got stacks of airplay here.this was a much bigger hit in oz than the original, and this is the version many of us aussies remember. i love to crank this up .its brilliant !
Wow, what a magic pairing this was.
RIP.
I love this version. Too bad, they don't have this version in Spotify!
Godspeed, Long John! Thank you for covering a great Righteous Brothers song, and reviving me from the hollow shell into which I occasionally devolve!
Hey just a mention, would Rod Stewart be the singer he is today, without this man, John Baldry?
I had the great pleasure of seeing Rod at “Klooks Kleek” as a guest of the “The Steam Packet”
At The Railway Hotel, West Hampstead, Next door to the Decca Studios.
I will never forget it, Oh What A Night.
Long John had just the most amazing Soul Voice.
The venue was at the time, the hottest ticket in London.
John Jennings
seen ths Steam Package in 65 at the Club A Go Go Newcastle
I can never say anything bad about this man, he tried to pick me up one year, if he didn't have the beard I might have said yes. Loved his music.
I have been looking for this version forever and I just happened to hear it on the radio today and found out who sings it. yay. Into my fav's.
Bit hit in Australia in 1980.
My favorite version!
Thanx for sharing.
RIP Kathi McDonald. Sep 25, 1948 - Oct 3, 2012. A beautiful soul and a beautiful voice.
Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers has called the Baldry/McDonald version the best remake of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'"
I first saw these 2 in 1979, playing at the Misty Moon in Halifax, N.S. This song stayed with me all this time, never being replaced by the others who TRIED to sing it this way. I see and hear them in the Moon that night when I close my eyes and crank this up. My neighbours 3 stories up hear and FEEL my music when I play these Classic R&B Tunes...hehehe...I'm 52 and FUCKING DEAF!!! lol
I saw Long John Baldry and Kathi Macdonald in Halifax Nova Scotia in a a bar in the early eighties it was a great show!!! never forgot it, sorry to see they are both gone now, great singers glad I got to see them live and close up!!
Wow! What a voice. I've only begun to listen to him.
Great pick ;)...Thank You!!
Been a fan since 70's...so great to see the youth listen to and appreciate music when their spirit went into the songs ;)
It takes guts to do this tune. The Righteous Brothers set the bar so high that very few would even attempt to cover this tune.
This damn good.
By far, the best version. A lot more soul applied!!
Gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful. I have loved John Baldry since I first heard him in the 70s when I was in my teens. Listening to this reminds me why.
For me, definitely the best version of this song. The contrast in their voices works beautifully and the song makes more sense in this duet version! I listened to this non stop when I first bought it in 1980.
Most of the time original versions are best. But this arrangement & vocal chemistry is spellbinding. Kathi McDonald--wow. Never met her (some of my lucky relatives have worked with her). If I had a nut -instead of being one- I'd give at least one to have an ounce of her gift. Her voice repeatedly soars like angel overhead & then tumbles back to earth with grace & grit & yet never upstages Baldry's rich vocal but instead envelopes it with a magical, musical, feminine mist. Sigh. :)
This is amazing I think it equals the fabulous Righteous bros they are both great!! I have always loved this version Kathi Mcdonald has an amazing voice!!
LJB, what a guy, what a voice. When will we see another like him ?
Baldry's Out one fantastic album!
Elvis' version live (Vegas) in August 1970 is brilliant too.
I only ever saw the film clip to this once...love it so much, gives me goosebumps!
saw this live in Vancouver many years ago....blew me away, best version evah!!
I could listen to this version over & over The best one of all of them.
Met Long John in a folk club in Chester 1966. Bought me a Scotch. He also played with the Hootchie Hootchie Men. Great performer
Thanks for posting this! Sends chills down my spine. I used to have this album - amazing voices!! :)
My favourite was the theme to the Mexico olympics , sad the guy has left us. he used to play at the Cooks Ferry Edmonton N London in the 60s
I love this song & Long John,
saw then do this live at some club in Vancouver many years ago...always loved their version. Good memories :)
entered Billboard Aug 11, 1979 ..reached #89
What a wonderful song and beautifully played and sung.
o my isn't this such a beautiful heartfelt version!!! thanks so much for the posting..(.haven' t heard it before!!!)
Love it! A fave from long ago...and a love you don't find everyday!
RIP both Long John Baldry and Kathi McDonald. Great singers lost to the world. If anyone has the video of this song, please post it on RUclips. Such a performance !!
Thank you, I have been looking for this version. Magic.
What a fine song! Know it from the Walker Brothers, but this one tops it, which is remarkable, cause i like that other version very much. Anyway, Thanks for another fine musical moment Long John!!!
I agree with you completely. In fact I have been looking for this version for quite some time. Thanx for the post. Bravo!
Definitely the best version. I had the privilege of seeing him perform this live in the late 70's when he opened for the Beach Boys at the Granstand in Toronto. I had no idea he wasn't the first to perform it.
No matter. He owns it now......
Best version ever! Had the video to this on VHS. Will have to sort through them to find it & upload
@jacquesjunk have always loved this one and it is certainly the very best version of this song. I used to have video tape but lost it some years ago. Just brilliant.
Agreed - there is a video with LJB and Kathi singing this song. It would be great if that could be found and put on You Tube.
Makes me shiver!!! WOW.Great Singers.
righteous brothers is the best song by an ABSOLUTE MILE!!!!!!
Definitely the best version for sure ! thanks for sharing
NÃO EXISTE MUSICAS LINDAS ASSIM MAIS
SAUDADES TEM COMO VOLTAR NO TEMPO?????
Katia Tacone concordo essa toca lá no fundo.
Just rediscovered this album after many years and just love it. I think this is the BEST version of this song also, I daresay the best duet I've heard.
LOVE John!!! BEST VERSION EVER!
Now this is something else, never heard this till today, shits all over the righteous brothers, mega tune.
Definitely best version, always was, always will be! :)
you are right Earl Rellinger. RIP John & Kathi
Thanks Darryn but couldnt find the live version either
Most of the time original versions are best. But this arrangement & vocal chemistry is spellbinding. Kathi McDonald--wow. Never met her (some of my lucky relatives have worked with her). Best. Version. Ever.

I agree. Best version by far.
No offense to the Righteous Brothers, but this is far and away the best version of this song.
Absolutely LOVE this version :)
I need this on iTunes and its not there !!!
LINDA NA VOZ DELE
The No 1 version.
My favourite version pity it wasn't filmed
There actually is a official video and a live in concert version..seem lost though...the live version is here on you tube, not the original video though
it was I remember it on tv but can't find it now.. Kathy was on the stage and john walked in just before he was due to sing.
Was a hit in australia, seem to remember a clip.
1'53" is Heart Reef, Whitsundays, Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Come visit :-)
give me timi yuro, she was wonderful,
random question, but is this the version that appeared in the last season of the British TV series Butterflies? been looking for that version for ages, sounds live Elvis, but it isn't.
Magnificent
Essa música é muito boa.
Miss you old friend
2:40 - thought they might start singing "Summer lovin' happened so fast..." at this point
@InformationMinister
Wouldn't it now? The singing similarities of Barry White and LJB are exact. Barry White could have done this easily.
💜💜
Yeh this is a really good version
Yo tengo ese video con Katy Mc.Donald, lo grabé de DISCO CLUB, pero está en VHS
Love love this music. Te amo gatinha.
@GeneralLee72
To right matey, this was certianly one of my favourites.
I used to think Long John Baldry went to Charterhouse School, only now I know he didn't.
gawd damn
It is the BEST version.
I can't even find a match in Shazam. : (
the best version on earth Kathi and John rock
think this is best version
I'm sorry, but damn i wish barry white did a duet with a woman and covered this song! Would have been beautiful!
duet with kathi mcdonald, two very soulful singers
@Paulasmusicplay Kathi McDonald
His first (solo) version was released in 1967. I respect the effort of the Righteous Brothers, but this version with Kathi McDonald is far better than any other ones.
Who sang that crap, the Wrongest Brothers?
really/
you are kidding bsyrmas
