Digging the old school polygon arcade look, bonus points for it looking clean.
Gameplay seems tight and responsive.
I may actually give this a purchasing thought.

The Stunt Race FX music made me chuckle. Nicely done.
Oh gosh, I thought that was the game's music and was pretty worried for a minute.
Fun fact, this runs on the same engine as Sonic Team Racing. Which is the same in-house racing engine that dates back all the way to Outrun 2. This isn't just a tribute, arcade racing is in this game's dna, and a welcome return for Sumo using their engine for something other than kart racers.

Looks pretty cool, I appreciate minimalist graphics. On the switch where graphic capability is limited, trying to make a game look photo realistic makes it look ugly.

When you said Sumo Digital, it immediately clicked why I was interested from just watching it. It totally looks like it plays like a SEGA Allstars Racing game from the drifting alone. I'm definitely in.

This racer has turned out looking very good and seems like those who play will have a nice time.

I feel like rubber banding is pretty easy to prove.
If you can go from dead last to first, but can't put any distance on the other cars, rubber banding!
Mario Kart has both problems, often youre either never able to get ahead of opponents or sometimes once you do it becomes boring cos you outrun them too easily, I dont think theres any perfect solution cos people either want the challenge of trying to get ahead or they just want to feel permanently in control which is not what racing is about so people need to get over themselves.
Or maybe there is a hidden drafting mechanic and this "rubber banding" is just a product of aero/dirty air...

I just purchased this game but I haven't played it yet..it looks and sounds like a game I'd like so I went ahead and bought it..I wasn't sure about the graphics,but I don't seem to mind the old school type graphics if the game itself is good(like Phoenotopia,I really like that game)..and I've watched a few other reviews of this game and it seems that most people like it..I don't have Mario Kart 8 yet,but I was looking for another racing game anyway and this sounds like it fits the bill
&how do you feel about the game now? Was it worth it? Do you still not yet have Mario kart 8? I don't have it yet and idk this one's on sale my daughter likes that old 90s racing game called cel racing I think cuz it's back when cel shading graphics were a brand new thing lol &it woukd be same graphics style and I just can't buy that game a 3rd time lol. It lacks content this seems less battle racing more arcade so idk im on thre fence with it and having a hard time is it worth 5$or less? Or should I just save that$ and put it towards Mario kart 8?lol I also don't want to buy a dozen or so racing games that are just meh not bad but not great like Mario kart only Nintendo can be trusted to make triple a games thatd not suck lol. But anyway just wanna know if it held up or was something to regret like I just got ori and the will o wisp and I was disappointed with the sad story lol thought it woukd be more uplifting but not so mych lol.

Nice review Alex. Looks interesting. Anyhow the video got a thumbs up as soon as i heard stunt Race FX title screen tune 😊 a game from my youth im so nostalgic about that to this day whenever im in a particularly good mood i often find myself humming the title music from stunt race FX. Has a fun/happy/cheeky vibe to it.
1) Memories of playing Virtua Racing on my Sega 32X...ahhh, yes!
2) Yyeahh...if somebody could just make a racing game featuring the 1960-something Chevrolet Cheetah...that would be reeaally Great. Let's get on that, shall we?

Stunt Race fx music is not representing this game well at all. I doubt there would be a copyright strike for using bits of the actual game music, so I'm confused why you'd choose to do this. Good game though. On sale now (Sep 2021) for $5 in the eshop.

This game is more worth owning than the 2 driving games on the atari jaguar, and I'm pretty sure you can guess what they are
This game has rubber banding kinda built in as a mechanic, and you, the player, can do it too actually!
Basically, slipstreaming in this game is VERY effective. You can do it from super far behind, and it makes you go really fast (you'll catch up in seconds). My theory is that's the reason why you can never get too far ahead in this game, and I think it's pretty well designed because of it

Unfortunately as nice as it may look (clean and vibrant colours) Im not paying 60 dollars Australian for old graphics styles when other modern racing games cost alot less and give me better graphics. And thats my only real issue here. Polygons are not worth 60 dollars in this day and age.

yes but it is not available on handheld mode (desktop mode works, you just have it detach joycons)

Cant customize controls on switch. LAME. The mappings for manual trans... LAME. Nice one Sumo. You screwd this for people who want manual trans.
I actually like the rubber banding. It gives me a cool challenge and didn't feel unfair.

Horizon is more like a mode 7 racer...hotshots is like a ridge racer hybrid.

I always have to click off these videos when I hear that intro its just cringe!
I find the Switch racing scene pretty pathetic. I don't care about these arcade looks and turtle shells flying around. I wish there were more "kind of realistic" titles. We have Grid, and that's it.... I haven't played Asphalt as the last version I played was effing ridiculous (basically 100% arcade). At this point I would even take some older NFS title. Well, the digital joycon / pro controller triggers aren't helping...
