Mike, I love how you do studio/live double reactions, it really highlights the beauty of an artist. One gets to observe the polished production of the studio version in contrast to the often much different arrangement of the live performance. Very detailed reaction to a wonderful song that showcases the genius of Amy Lee. 👏

Yeah, I was so intriged into what you'd hear in this song, the bridge is the best part for me, and the way she started the Synthesis version was amazing bc you would'nt know what to expect if she starts with that, then she turned it into a powerful orchestral classical song, I feel the synthesis version reflects more of a deep sadness, hollow devastating feeling of losing it all whereas the studio hard rock version is the sound of the big hit wave, the desperation, crazyness, nightmare sounding crash of that wave ripping it all apart from you. Both give so much feeling and meaning to the actual lyrics, it's one of the hardest songs to sing live as Amy has said before, but she managed to do all Synthesis concerts with it as the opener and it was just amazing seeing them in that setting aswell. I saw them in 2012 with the rock version as the last song on their encore so this song has been so fulfilling experiencing it live. I'm 100% sure they will play it in their new setlist, Jen already told in a story she was gonna take a guitar specially for that song and Troy also said the 7string guitar he uses on Better Without You will make Never Go Back sound way better, so I'm feeling they will make an even more incredible live rock version of it with a heavier tuning and it fits so well the whole Bitter Truth album sound to put in between songs. So get ready for their next concert bc it's very possible they will be performing this song.

What an uplifting reaction Mike. This is one of my favorite songs as well. I believe it encompasses everything Evanescence is about. As far as the Synthesis version goes, it's brilliant in its own way - as is entire Synthesis project. Amy reimagined songs way before "reimagined" was a thing. While on that subject, have you ever listened to Falling In Reverse, especially the song : Popular Monster? I'm curious what you'd think of it. But back to Evanescence. Thanks so much for doing these double reactions. Another good option is original and acoustic versions. My Heart Is Broken for example. Any who, much love and can't wait for more 🤘❤️

Both versions of this song are so great and so powerful. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm so glad that you get to see them next month! I went a little nuts and got tickets to a few shows.
Since you'll be seeing Halestorm too, you should react to their newest single, "Back From the Dead".

I think it was a stroke of genius for them to include the orchestral instruments, piano, and strings, because the subject deserves that kind of drama. Maybe the beginning, at least of the first version, is so hectic and rumbling to symbolize the earthquake before the tsunami, and then the slower part you referred to as feeling like the waves were coming to crash down on the village. She was very obviously emotionally moved, and emotions very often affect creativity. So beautiful!

You should DEFINITELY listen to her solo work of Speak To Me and Aftermath.
Speak to Me is so haunting but saturated in emotion and then the bridge with the cello, accompanying strings and piano just sends your goosebumps wild!
The album she did for War Story, Aftermath is really great and her song Lockdown is some of her most powerful vocals. Dark Water is beautiful with the middle eastern vibe and vocals as well as Amy singing background.
Also she has a song called Find A Way that never had a released studio version she did with the cellist she’s worked with on the other albums mentioned above and some Ev songs you would love as well

It's been a while without any Evanescence reacton. I missed them. It's great when you appreciate the little details of the song. Never Go Back is a masterpiece. If you intend to return to The Open Door: Snow White Queen. If you decide to continue on self-titled: My Heart is Broken or End of the Dream (both with Synthesis versions)

Mike, your breakdowns of the songs are always on point, great musical ear. We need to send you some instruments for you to play along with your reactions ;)
If you love Amy’s piano skills:
Even in Death 2016 version from (Lost Whispers album)
    Good Enough
    Lost in Paradise
    My Heart is Broken
    Speak to Me
    Far from Heaven
Most of these are on the Synthesis Live DVD
Also, so cool that you are going to their concert! Post a vid for us! Enjoy!

Also I forgot some more Amy piano songs:
      Your Star
      Breathe No More
Hi-Lo (toward the end of Lindsey Stirling’s solo)
Lindsey could also use a back-up multi-instrumentalist just sayin ;)

Even before knowing the meaning behind the song, waves were definitely on my mind (not counting the lyrics as well) when listening to this song. I imagine two things of the upbeat tempo in the beginning: People just living their lives right before the disaster...or the earthquake that is about to cause the tsunami....hence why this song makes me sad....especially at the end where it sounds like everything is underwater. The way they used the music to make you imagine these things is top tier in my opinion. You can just feel the water...This is definitely one of their more emotionally impactful songs for me (as you probably guessed). Not surprising considering the inspiration. I also really enjoyed the harmonies of Amy and Jen in the Synthesis version as well as the orchestration as usual. I can't remember if I already requested this (if so sorry for the repeat), but I hope you do another double header, this time with Disappear (Studio and Live version). It's a song from the Deluxe version of their self-titled album. The best live version of this song in my opinion is at the Paramount in Huntington, NY in 2016. Also, wow! You get to see them next month!? Have fun dude!

    Amazing reaction like always.
I love all the little things you notice while listening to the songs. I also love that you look for info about the lyrics.
From their self title album, i think the next one you should do is 'The Change'. That's my favorite song from this album.
Other recommendations are 'Erase This' and 'Disappear'.
    But everything is great.

Hey so glad u loved this song- it’s really great! The bridge of the original version is amazing and my fav part of the song. This was one of my early favorites on this album when it first came out… the synthesis version is well done too.
I mentioned this before but I was in the audience in that video - it was my first of 3 shows of the synthesis tour that fall. I drove from nyc to Connecticut and when I got there found out they were filming that particular concert for dvd/blu ray. Exciting lol
On a side note off topic, idk if u saw a random comment I left on a video where u had a game of thrones shirt on, but I had a random song suggestion… “Pray (High Valerian)” by Matt Bellamy (lead singer of Muse). It was a song that was on the “for the throne” album where random artists had game of thrones inspired music. The song has a very game of thrones vibe and even has the red womans dialogue throughout the song. Idk if u would like it but I thought I’d suggest it since I have noticed some game of thrones shirts in ur videos and the game of thrones music in the show was one of my fav parts of it. I actually like the song a lot cuz I feel like it could’ve been used in the actual show but wasn’t - let me know if u get around to listening to it it’s not overly complex lyric wise.
Anyways looking forward to more evanescence reactions and glad u are going to see them! I’m seeing them in December when they’re in my area.
