One night in like, 1997, my mother and her friend decided they wanted to just get up and go to Las Vegas and gamble, but they couldn't figure out what to do with me and my sister that late at night, so she just brought us. I got the novelization to Mortal Kombat Annihilation in the hotel giftshop and read that several times throughout the weekend with MTV on in the background (because they were advertising the Beavis and Butt-head are going to die stuff constantly). It was a boring, miserable weekend, but I recall the novel being OK for what it was. It may be partially why I don't have such a negative opinion of the movie itself as other people.
You and C.B. had the right idea with this one! The book seems like the better of the two this time.

Chakan The Forever Man is like a proto mk mythologies. No actual connection but the whole game feels like a lost mk characters story. The soundtrack is great.
I was really into reading movie adaptations as a kid. How did i miss this gem? 10 year old me wouldve LOVED this book lol

they dont show any slave/colbalt mines until they do mortal kombat conquest tv series. thats where shang tsung gets imprisioned for losing his fight against kung lao.
I think someone saw the magic of CGI and last minute changed the script and tried to make the whole movie "bigger" by using a lot more CG... But halfway, the studio realized how expensive the movie was becoming and cut as many corners as possible.

I honestly had no idea that there was ever a Mortal Kombat novel.
I used to play MK2 on snes all the time as a teen.

i remember when i was little there was a sort of turf war between fans of street fighter and mortal kombat, but maybe that was a thing only in the city i grew up. I almost never played MK because of that, until much much later. Loved the first movie though, sadly saw the second one in theatres with friends and my mom . Even then my 13 yo mind thought: " ...this is bad. No seriously,wtf?"
Oh it as definitely a thing haha! And yeah, Annihilation is just awful.

I remember being so excited for this movie. Then i watched it and wasted probably a good hour or two that could have been spent watching the first movie instead or playing Ultimate MK 3.

@@MattsGeekCorner I like to own every movie we cover and I got MK1 in blu-ray quality at the same time so that's worth it. Plus, seeing MKA in that high-def is a sight to behold on it's own! 🤣
@@MovieDumpster oh yeah I'm with you on owning all of the movies. I like to buy what I can as well. But some movies gave been tough to find or aren't on blu ray.

This movie was the first movie that truly pissed me off. I was 7 when It came, I was extremely excited for it bc my favorite character has always been Jax(ermac became my favorite later on in life) that scene were he just took of his rubber arm sleeves pissed me off so much I yelled out "that's bullshit!!" And I got in trouble for cursing lol. That whole movie is a goddamn curse

Dang. Finding out all this makes me wish they had the money to do all these fights. They messed up on the 2nd movie. The novel seems so much better. I wanted to see Shiva vs Lui kang and Raiden. I wanted to see other characters fight and explain a little about themselves.
Recently picked up The Pact by Jerome Preistler, the author of MK Annihilation.
Try doing the novel version of the Tom Jane Punisher. In the book it goes into more detail about Howard Saint’s organization. And Lidia Saint is pure fucking evil!

Yeah its up there. For me the worst was Nacho Libre. Me and like 6 friends went to see it because we figured, 'why not?'. By the time it got to the big match at the end we all looked at each other and collectively got up and left the theater. Beat the traffic after the show so that was nice lol
The first one wasn't so bad. It's better acted. Johnny cage is my favorite. Has the nut punch.
