Definitely my favorite video game movie with Street fighter as a close second. I just love how the movie doesn't take it self too seriously and just gives you great fights solid costume designs and plenty of very quotable line's.
I was born in May of 1987 , Mortal Kombat & Aliens was the very two first films that I saw in my life to where I wanted to watch them a million times over ❤ the year was 1995 !!!! I saw Aliens & the Mortal Kombat right afterwards & loved it so much as a 8 year old that I literally stole it from the video store so all my friends could watch it & become obsessed with it too especially because we all already played the first two games together on SNES & the third game literally just came out in the arcade back then ❤
There's a reason this movie's version of Kano basically became the blueprint for the the kharacter in the games that followed it. MK11 really nailed him too imo. -Sean
Love the podcast, been binging the episodes. The only gripe I've got is having to adjust the volume every 2 minutes because "somebody" can't stop yelling like a person who's hearing aid is cutting in and out. Other than that, FANTASTIC show, keep them coming.
Hopefully since we switched to video it isn't as bad. Can only assume that somebody being too loud is me, just say it LOL! I'm just passionate! Thanks for watching. -Sean
My favorite scene of the movie and I like to get high and rewatch this fight over and over is the Lou Kang vs reptile fight because originally I thought reptile was just gonna be a CGI lizard the whole movie I had no idea he was gonna become his ninja form and then when Lou Kang threw him into the statue, then he became the reptile we know from the video game one of the best scenes in any movie still hasn’t been topped nearly 30 years later
Art Lean was my favorite character. People were complaining about Cole from MK 2021, totally forgetting about the parade of carnies that Goro massacred. The movies have always been there own thing.
The reason it makes sense, is because, Hong Kong was a still British colony. It wouldn't revert back to China until 1999. You don't even need to read a history book to know that. It was the inciting incident in Rush Hour.
Can’t really remember the context cause it’s been a few years, but yeah definitely remember it coming up in Rush Hour as a key plot point. Surprised I didn’t mention that. -Sean
see I agree with both you guys It should have been the predator camouflage look with the lizard skin so you wouldn't even see it except for the camouflage and then get thrown into the body and become reptile that way we don't have that CGI monstrosity
Could make for a really interesting movie in the vein of The Warriors, we would definitely give it a chance! We talk about it a bit in our Double Dragon episode too.
Yeah same. I played four a bit via rentals and cabinets, but that's about it. I think things have gotten even more bonkers since - can't you pick Freddie Krueger as a playable char now? I'll always love this movie though. I think it's the best adaptation of a vijagame out there. Just fun and silly and dripping with nostalgia - if not with blood.
@@joseph-zoramcbride4029Sorry, to reply to your year long comment, but in MK9, Freddy Krueger was a guest character Via DLC, and or buying the re-release (Which I’ve no issue with guest fighters in games) That license has since been discontinued & was over 10 - Years ago.
For sure after MK 3 Ultimate anf MK Trilogy....it was the end of an Era and seeing the way MK 4 moved to the Tekken format was bailed from the franchise. Now that I heard MK X having Horror Characters in MK and MK 11 has alot of Movie CHARACTERS from 80s movies as well as Characters from the actual MK Movie...I want to buy both games just to play those Characters....is it worth to buy both 10 and 11?
Both are great for different reasons, but I played a lot more X than 11 for what it’s worth. If you wanna play online though, 11 would be the way to go. And MK3 is the best. Thanks for watching! -Sean
@@MovieDumpster the fighting gameplay is stellar but the storytelling through 9 to 11 is AMAZING. Totally revolutionizing fighting games so even those who dont get into the online still can enjoy them.
How was Resident Evil Apocalypse not a good Video Game adaptation???? It's literally the best RE film we are ever going to get!!!! It's the only one film other than MK1 that feels like a real film adaptation to a game!!! They even added scenes in from the 3rd & 4th RE games in it & made sure that all the B.O.W.'s looked just like they did in the games unlike the other four films!!!! I thought RE : Apocalypse was damn perfect regardless if they added different things from different films & because they made it into the second & third film rather than just the second cuz I'm not a huge fan of RE2 anyway!!!! Also I think the actor that they chose for Johnny Cage in MK1 was perfect casting just like the rest of the characters & actors were !!!! Jean Claude Van Damm is basically why MK even exists but I honestly can't see him playing Johnny Cage better than the person they chose along with all the actors & actresses they chose!!! They were all perfect to me because that movie is literally why ppl remember all those actors in other films so well ❤
Here is an interesting fact when I was in jail, they played monster Hunter and I seen Mila johovavitch T.I. And Tony Jaa in this movie and I was like what the fuck is this because I never played any of the monster hunter games and I don’t know much about them. I was never a fan but what a stupid movie I didn’t even know it existed until I seen it on a Jail tv
Woo! You guys, this was a bit of a hard one to listen to with the guy's yelling (I have a friend who is loud like this in person, and it's making me feel like he's in the room), but I'm loving the material from all the episodes I've heard. I'm kind of new to your channel. So I admit that I'm listening to these out of order. Thanks for a lot of good laughs from these episodes! Anyway, I sort of fell off after Mortal Kombat 3. I don't know why I can barely remember the second Mortal Kombat movie, but from what's been said here, I probably don't need to. This one's got so many memories attached to it - seeing it in the theatre with buddies, playing all the games, the soundtrack (I'm all about the metal/industrial stuff). I just the shit out of this one.
We wish this one could have been video. It has been a journey! Still, there are some great episodes in the back catalog even if they are audio only. Thanks for your support! 🙏💚📼

Your impersonation of Raiden somehow manages to simultaneously sound like Christopher Lambert and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog at the same time.
Lol "why didn't you save Chan, because you off helping Chris Farely?" Oh that joked killed me
Holy Shinto! You know the MDU lore runs deep between the two!
i always loved goros line to kano "HOW LUCKY FOR THEM! ....back home...."

I think Brandon Lee could definitely Laser Mission his way through a Johnny Cage performance. RIP

MOCAPPED !?! ARE YOU INSANE!??!?!! I burst out laughing!
🤣🤣
Art Lean was my favorite character. People were complaining about Cole from MK 2021, totally forgetting about the parade of carnies that Goro massacred. The movies have always been there own thing.
Art is great, except he’s a tertiary character. Just like Cole should have been.
Mortal Kombat Origins: Art Lean
Before Sonic, this was the best video game movie.
Detective Pikachu comes to mind too.
That was a good one.

Goro looks fine for the time.
He was an amazing achievement for guys-in-suits monsters! - Joe

It would be totally awesome if you guys did mystery men
Would love to do it, it’s awesome! -Sean
Time for another double dragon movie for sure

Final Fight! That needs a movie! Or a mini series.
This is great
Thank you, we're glad your enjoying it! *Heh heh heh*
After mk3 I kind of fell out for the most part
We try to catch you up in the episode, but some of us were in the same boat. The last three games have been a return to form though for sure!
