If that pressure relief sticks open, the lube oil pressure to the direct drum/stator support bushings goes to zero. Another note is that blocking the relief off, even with an anti-ballon converter won't save the converter/thrust main if the cooler/lube gets plugged/restricted. Runaway hydraulic pressure is quite unforgiving. I've seen all sorts of destroyed parts from a runaway line condition.

I dont worry too much about it because if either scenario occurs you should notice this with converter stall and cooler temp before you cause damage to the engine. Hopefully! Good points though.

@@BroaderPerformance I agree it's quite apparent that things aren't right when that happens.

Would a stiffer spring be a good compromise?

Maybe. If its something that concerns you Id probably just leave it alone. Personally I have not seen issues doing this when the whole system is worked over to accommodate it. If this is the only mod your going to make to the oiling system then dont do it.

I rebuilt my c4 with the broader performance kit years ago. Billet servo it shifted great for awhile and now skips second and goes to third
Manually can hit all the gears. Sometimes in first jf I slow down it revs up to 2500 then catches pulls to 3500 and then shifts to 3rd. I screwed with the governor setting years ago a bit trying to get the shift points higher in the rpm range. It is running a deep pan and the proper filter. Stage 2 shift kit and 2500 stall. I can live with it but if it is something somewhat simple I would like to fix it. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

That's a complex issue. As these valve bodies get older I find sometimes fresh units I Dyno will stacked shift and skip second. In the interest of saving time I typically just build another valve body and it usually works. I'll try and address this in a video someday when it happens to me again and I have time to talk about it and how I fixed it.
