Another excellent C4 vid. Really enjoying this series. Thank You. Love a good C4 build I've done 100's . Totally agree on that #3 thrust washer. Setting up the Forward planet & hub bearing right fixes that washer wear. The C4 popularity is still very high over here. Pressure plates would be awesome. No idea how any shop can claim to build a nice unit without a lathe :) Will be keep a lookout for those pistons . Have used the C6 one was real nice. P.S just received my valvebody kits . Beautiful work I must say.
I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I have 2 C4’s I will be calling you soon for some parts. My C6 I built 18-20 years ago is still going great with your help.
HI jay im so glad ur a FORD GUY same here always have been only thing I'm in AUSTRALIA wish i was in the states would be getting parts from you always if i was love ur videos very good information love the c4s c6s FMXs got few of them lying around like you said getting hard to get em and some people dont wanna sell em .
Love you sharing your knowledge Jay Thank You, question, you mention your custum high pressure piston for this drum and I wonder at what pressure level do you find it to be needed and or how high of pressure do you even feel is safe for a C4 period running constant pressure, I have one of your Transbrake kits installed but with stock bellville spring and piston and about 250PSI line pressure do you feel I am in a danger zone yet without one of your pistons?
I recently bought a rebuilt race C4 from a transmission rebuilder. Installed the transmission and it worked fine. But there was a problem I did not discover until about 500 miles later. I was doing some work on the engine and when disconnecting everything to remove the engine I pulled the rear return cooler line loose expecting the usual flood of oil. Not one drop of oil came out of the hose. Apparently, the transmission was running without any oil in the cooler lines. Thinking that I did something wrong I blew out all the lines with air and had plenty of flow. Running without oil to the lubricate the rear half of the gear train I was expecting the worse when I took the transmission apart. But all I could find wrong was a worn case bushing and replaced it. But when inspecting the "rebuilt" pump found the drain back valve jammed shut with metal shavings apparently from the rebuild procedure. I put another rebuilt pump from a different transmission rebuilder that had removed the drain back valve and instantly had cooler line flow. I have never seen this happen before. So you have to check everything. Rebuilt or not.
So Iv got an oil leak I can’t seem to get rid of from inside the bell housing, brought it to the trans shop multiple times, he replaced stuff and loctited and silicones the pump bolts but still coming from it, what could be done to resolve this issue? Thanks in advanced!

Hello. I am new to building tranny's and your channel. I am building a C4 for my 65 mustang. Took me about 18 months to find a good core , 1977 so it has some better internals. My engine is a 331 stroker. About 390 HP at the crank. How much should I be modifing inside this c4 . Thank you for your time.
I have a 347 putting out approximately 400 horsepower the five clutch will be fine what about replacing the number 9 thrush washer see y'all don't have it rollerized in stock anymore

Thank you, we appreciate the business and the comments.
Thanks Jay, I like the video, some good tips. I have always bought my hard parts from you

Sounds good, we appreciate the business.
Great work Jay, you are encouraging and inspirational.
I appreciate that!
Great info. 👍 putting this stuff out there for anyone interested is a great service.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the free information and your time. It's much appreciated.
You bet

I always wanted to build a super stout C-4…. But man, if parts are getting hard to get…. I guess a C-6 or a 6R80
Thank you Jay for the info!!!
6R80 is a good unit but the case is too big for many older cars. A 4R70W is also another good option.
great vid.
Thank you

I'd say roughly 220+ constant pressure.
Thanks for the video.
Love your videos. What is your process to clean the parts? Looks more than just a hot tank
Good question it's a process for sure. I'll do a video on that.

Common problem. That's one of the reasons I remove the drain back balls

I dont have a quick easy answer but most of the bearing stuff you dont need. Keep watching the C4 series I will cover this.
Put a turbo400 for anything around 800hp and it works
C6 as well.
I have a 347 putting out approximately 400 horsepower the five clutch will be fine what about replacing the number 9 thrush washer see y'all don't have it rollerized in stock anymore
I wouldnt say the #9 is a must do in your situation. We may have a few for sale soon. They come and go these days.
How about using epoxy here.
Good question. I don't know if that would help or not. I know composite technology has come a long way.
ZPar
Splash zone very hard epoxy
Now if I can just get my C4 and C6 attempts to shift auto after a stock build .
Sometimes not as easy as it seems thats for sure. Especially the older they get.
Sounds like nodular iron material
It's pretty good quality.
Get the pressure plates cut on a water jet, they’ll sell
We have considered it. They also need to be heat treated and ground so it bumps the cost up.
