Thanks Jay for the info,as a trans guy of 40yrs I can say the main thing is to keep the trans fluid cool a good aftermarket cooler bypassing the stock cooler is the ticket, especially when running a stall converter, cheers bud keep punching!

When I was 18 built my 1st trans a C4. Back then (in the 80's) everyone said C-4 named after the explosive b/c it will explode & need a C-6. The 1st one lasted a hour, 2nd time a week, 3rd time I never broke it. I notice you don't drill any holes in the drum to evac oil. Back then was popular to drill four 3/8" holes. I did that and it welded the plates together right in line with those holes. The hole from the factory is all needed to stop centrifugal force applying the drum. I think it was drilling the drum like that was the problem and that extra hole added enough oil to keep the clutches from rubbing and overheating in 1st. I still drilled the drum, but were about .90" hole one per clutch step staggered around the drum. Never had a problem with that and never added that hole in the piston.

Sorry meant to say .090" hole, not .90". That be kinda big. 🙂

Thanks for the info. I have done various configurations of holes on the outside of the drum but I cant say it seemed to help. Another mod that is hard to prove whether it works or not.

Yes we do. I hope to accomplish this in the near future. I wont outsource to China like the other sell outs.

I drilled a hole at an angle through the bottom.... No pressure loss at all... No more burnt clutches... I run stock B/W cluthes

Good videos , Jay. Thanks for sharing. On my units I drill relief holes on the band surface in line with the middle of the band and the drive tangs to aid band apply as well as high clutch apply. How do you feel about that mod?

I used to do it but I didnt find any real benefit to it so I no longer bother.

I run mostly stock C4 , with Kevlar intermediate band, stock reverse band. I seem to have most long-term trouble with the forward clutch pack. No trans-brake streetcar 425hp 4500stall . At that power level it will need clutches after 3 summers.
Years ago when I was at 600hp I could get through the summer but was weak for sure .What's your opinion at what i should look at next time I'm in it.?

Its fine. Wont cause any problems if its just drain holes in the band area.
