“For Whom the Bell Tolls“ was released on Metallica’s second album “Ride the Lightning“ in 1984. The famous opening riff, which is often mistaken for a guitar, was in fact played by Cliff Burton on a heavily distorted bass.
As always with the overhead view so you can use this video as a tutorial.
Thanks for watching!
All rights belong to Metallica.
Music & Lyrics by Hetfield, Ulrich, Burton.

I love the view. Makes it much easier to learn.
Perhaps a 3 angle video could also do the trick.
JacK-0-L Less is more.
1st don't i learned on drums. I literally practiced air drumming lmao. I got behind a kit when i joined a band and they played this and i couldn't believe i got 80% of it right. I know most drummers say it's an easy song but i was like... Wow.
@@cool3929 air drumming is soo useful. i dont have a drum kit and a month ago i had my first gig. i practiced everything air drumming and performed pretty well
I would say the same thing but my mom won’t buy me a drum set😟
0:42 First fill for those of you trying to learn the song
@@YYZed12 this is some mad broken english
@@brandonedwards1181 I’m sorry LOL, it was when I was still learning English, Tbh I can’t even understand my own comment from a year ago.
@@YYZed12 hey props to you for taking the time to learn a secondary language man! Most native English speakers don’t realize that it is actually one of the hardest languages to learn, especially in the sense of using correct grammar. A lot of native speakers don’t even use proper grammar; let alone people with English as a second language LOL
@@dagnrl215 LOL Thanks bro, speaking English is like very easy for me now :D except when I’m being asked about Past Tense, Grammar questions, other than that I’m completely fine
This was my favorite song to play on drums growing up , pretty simple but so fucking heavy and raw. Was just listening to the song and air drumming hard as hell brought back memories so I instantly looked this up sick job dude
And Lars fills in this are probably my favorite of any of their songs like I said so simple but so heavy and raw
@@dagnrl215 the one at 2:19 always sounded sick af to me
@@ScrappyDew22 agreed probably my favorite fill from this song, the guitar and bass pause makes it sound so perfect
I always air drummed to hard rock songs (Used to listen to metal) like Cinderella, GnR, good stuff now it’s like Blues LOL
Finally! A video with a camera angle that is helpful when learning to play! When you see your view ticker go up by 300 times, that's me! Thanks!
Thank you, and thanks so much for the “Super Thanks“ money🥹🥹highly appreciate it!
Holy fuck the bass drum hits in the chorus is a really good addition, love it man!
Thanks! :) I thought so too, it‘s the only change I would make to an otherwise perfect drum track by Lars
ive been getting more and more into metal over the past few years due to my dad and holy hell have i been wanting to play bass and drums. this just makes the urge more prominent 🤘🏻
I‘m glad this was inspiring! Do it, I think there’s nothing better than playing an instrument :)
one of my favorite covers of this song!
Very dope. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how Ulrich plays the fill at 1:30 and you really nailed it. Gonna try it out myself🤘🏻
Thanks I mainly play bass and guitar too but I’ve been learning drums recently, videos like this are a big help
Loved this! You nailed it with the small changes!
very elegant and correct...i am going to learn it now.
Thanks for the upload! Like some others have said, nice angle for trying to replicate
Great cover René!
talent to me anyway is doing some thing hard and make it look easy......great job ,got some good pointer from this
Love your kit!

i don’t know how to play drums but thanks to this vid i can pretend i can
Haahahahahahahahaha same
The outro is seriously the hardest part of this song, I can never nail it 😂
Class !!!!!!
I want some drum lessons 🥺
Thanks, buddy, the easiest way to learn it
Simple heavy makes it more better.
I don’t even drum and I watch this weekly
Excellent job 👏
do caralho Man, foda de mais
nice nice
I can’t get the 2 kicks in a row after the fill segments
I know Lars uses a double kick. I think it might be possible without but the second pedal certainly helps it
Speed metal 😈 🤘
Like music is the best metal
perfect
2:38 sounds to clean. I think Lars did a buzz type roll with his left hand and then his right to make it sound like a 4stroke roll each time. In fact any time you here what would be that type of roll it's usually him playing a buzz type leadoff with his left hand.
ruclips.net/video/KTFlZXceC44/видео.html
I think he first did a 3 stroke roll like I did but then only a 2 stroke roll
@ yes a three stroke roll but the first two are with his left hand.[(double stroke) (first tap lighter than the second then accent the right)] It's possible to squeeze three strokes in with the left and then a single stroke with the right. With all the reverb it was hard to tell with music. Thanks for the link to drums only.
among the first songs i could play,i kow its one of the first that lars could play aswell ;)
very nice
❤❤❤❤❤❤🥁🥁🥁💕💕💕💕💕Lars,my love💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
10/10 🤘🤘🏻🤘🏿🤘🏼🤘🏽🤘🏾
Bro 👊🏻
What's the tuning on that snare?
I didn't mean to Yt I don’t know exactly, it‘s an 8“ x 14“ Ludwig black magic snare that I usually tune rather low :)
@ thanks :)
You’re welcome:)
I never knew drums had tuning, learning more every day XD
yay thanks my guy
00:42
This is a pretty easy song but its still so fuckin rythmic and cool
❤

Is this Pearl Export EX drum kit?
Nikolay Yanev It‘s a Pearl Vision VSX in strata red :)
Nikolay Yanev and the Snare is a Ludwig Black magic 14x8
@ oh thanks... Do you think mine Pearl Export EX can sound like your drums because I think it sounds really good and great cover too
Nikolay Yanev thanks!
Well in reality a drum never sounds like it does on modern recordings because of Equalizer and Compression. But I think that if you buy Remo Emperor Clear or Pinstripe Clear drumheads for the toms, you‘ll get that fat sound that you hear in this video. Also get a set of Evans control rings, they help you to get a rich sound and eliminate the overtones.
@ oh yeah you miked your drums... And thaks for the advice! Greetings from Bulgaria :)
The first fill I see a guy call fa la de dump god send of a name
Lars' most professional drum song.
Im gonna play this on my school 6lk ending🤨🥶🥶

protip: try to prac with a metronome. sounded like you came off the tempo in a few places, but overall a nice cover! keep it up!
Balonkers thanks! Yeah I know what you mean, that’s because I played to the drumless track so I had to follow the other instruments without a metronome
Anyone got accurate tabs for this song. I’ve been using songster idk if they are accurate though
Good cover but in the intro you should hit the crash AND snare
erkkimerkki666 thanks :) I did 😅
@ Well i did not hear it
@@leonkennedy6264 you can.... see it
Tinha que ter levantado no final
Why do ALL RUclips drummers spin their sticks
