Gotta hand it to Lars, his technique may be simpler than other drummers' technique, but in the 80s and early 90s, he had a very prolific approach to playing the drums.
Lars drumming was great on the first 4 albums but he wanted to take a simpler aproach for the black album 🙂
And he used to absolutely SMASH the drums
imo he just fits the music he's playing, this is not a Slayer song
@@freedom6046 The whole idea of the Black Album was to make an entirely different album compared to previous ones, because they needed to go in an entirely new direction. That's why they got Bob Rock (his first time working with Metallica) to produce the album.
@@freedom6046 a lot of that was Bob Rock, who produced the “black album.” (as well as the next for a albums) and encouraged the band to simplify their music writing in order to appeal to a broader audience. The average listener is not familiar with some of the key changes, uneven timing signatures and syncopated beats, so they don’t give it a chance. Rock remedied that by simplifying the music, which brought the band bigger success. I personally miss the more “complex” songs. 😊
I dont care what anyone says, Lars is a badass drummer. Most technically proficient? definetly not. But when it comes to being perfect for your particular band, i cant think of many better.

This was the song that got me into Metallica when I was 13 in 1992. I remember recording onto tape from the radio so I could listen to it over and over and memorize the lyrics. Then I bought the album and then all their other albums in backwards order.

As one of the 'haters' who likes to claim the real Metallica died 25 years ago, I think this is an underrated song from an underrated album. Awesome job with the cover.

Very nice bro this is the best cover so far for this song very detailed hits. This is the only song i know that has a different drum notes in every chorus and the last parts. this is one of the most creatively amazing drum rhythm for me. it really feels hes doing it freely just like what the song express. unlike other drummers as they record then just repeats for the next chorus in the studio like travis, hes good tho.
