Okay Chris, yes SDC is my favorite park and my home park and one of the best aspects of the park is FREE parking just like Holiday World. I always get a season pass which can be used to get into Dollywood for half price. Mystic River Falls is terrific and is REALLY a rapids ride much stronger than the old Lost River of the Ozarks. Some great and good coasters, wonderful food choices (Cinnamon Bread, Apple Turnovers with Apple Butter and killer Bar-B-Cue at the new Riverside Rib-House) and great atmosphere. SDC has it all.
So glad this is my home park, I get to go there probably 6 to 7 times a year and I never get bored of it. The theming, cave, and the entire city of Branson and the whole 1800s feel of the park and Shepard of the hills just makes the whole experience amazing. Glad you like it.
as a ride operator at SDC we only run 1 train most of the time due to the park hurting for staff. It takes more staff in order run multiple trains on the coasters. We ran outlaw Run during moonlight madness which we are open 7 days a week and open for 12 plus hours a day with only 5 employees and it takes 6 of us to run 2 trains with breaks. I had over 70 hours in one week. Also the reason of Time Traveler sometimes running full trains is because their cars are actually spaced out over 6ft. so if they get 4 groups of 4 they can fill the whole train.
@@AirtimeThrills I don't really know but it's in the ride manuals and that's just how SDC operates it. Outlaw only takes 3 to run 1 train. One on load side, one on unload, and an operator. 2 trains takes 2 load, 2 unload, and an operator. My guess is that 2 trains we have to move faster and having more staff helps us dispatch the trains faster maybe? SDC is also super strict on safety as well which is good. I don't know if you know but Mystic River Falls has been nothing but a huge headache for SDC. It has been down nearly 70% of the time this season. Hope they figure it out in the offseason.
@@JLWGames I have to agree on the latter part of your statement, I love SDC to death but I fear they created another Buzzsaw Falls with Mystic River Falls. (maybe a ride with the word "Falls" in it is cursed lol) And yes the former was a technical nightmare too before it got scrapped for Powderkeg. In retrospect I wished they kept Lost River and made MRF as a secondary ride. I hate saying I was disappointed with it but I was.
This park could us some airtime. But I just don’t se a traditional hyper. This park has some heavy theming, and hyper are some of the least themed coasters possible. But yes, they could use airtime in some form.
I went over Labor Day weekend this year and they generally did a great job at keeping lines reasonable even with the extra safety measures, the longest my group waited was around 45 minutes for a night ride on Wildfire
I’ll be going there the end of March. It’ll be my first time since I was a kid and Fire in the Hole was their only coaster. Thanks for another great video that has me stoked for my visit and adding to my coaster count!
Part of my amusement park ritual is to have a sealed single pack of Advil and of Zantac buried deep in a cargo shorts pocket. I almost never need it, but on the rare occasion when I do I get instant relief.
Hey Chris, Tim here (met you at Thunder Run at Keys to the Kingdom) we visited SDC during COVID, and I loved what they were doing as far as COVID measures. Every park should be doing the rule of seating a group together, then skip a row; as opposed to closing every other row. It really irked me at parks after that when they just closed every other row, which lead to 8-16 people per dispatch on a B&M. Also, they were putting hand sanitizer in everyone's hands as they were assigned a row, which let them only clean the trains once per hour, as opposed to every 30 minutes. It definitely is my favorite theme park I've been to in the US so far 😄 just wish it was closer to Arizona haha
Another park on my list I was going to visit back in August before the outbreak changed my plans. Oh well, these videos help me get through the days waiting for my trip to Florida in February.
Before Christmas last year, I picked a heck of a year to get season passes to a theme park for the first time in my whole life. But I finally got some of my money's worth a few weeks ago, when I went to SDC for 3 consecutive days. I was never there for longer than about 4 hours for any of the 3 days, though. The middle day was the the only day I wasn't there alone. The first day I rode all of the adult coasters but Fire in the Hole and Powderkeg. I was in line for Powderkeg the first day when it broke down. I was only about 2 or 3 half-capacity trainloads away from riding, but a train came in and it looked like the restraints weren't releasing properly. They told us they weren't sure how long it would take to fix, so I skedaddled. The next two days Powderkeg was always single train operations, even on Saturday. I don't know how many total trains SDC had for Powderkeg, but they were only running 1. So for my 3 days Powderkeg was always the longest wait. I did it once, on the second day. Still a good ride. Just not worth waiting longer for it than for the other coasters. But I think I noticed that with Powderkeg, instead of spraying the whole train down and cycling the whole train empty once, they were spraying down empty seats, then putting passengers into the other seats, cycling the ride, then changed the seats to spray down and run empty for the next cycle. Time Traveler always had the next longest wait. But well worth it. TT is better in the back, but I got a front row ride once to compare. And because that was where I was told to sit, and didn't feel like waiting for the next train. Yeah, it's better in the back. But something happened during the 3 days that I don't remember experiencing before in prior years, and that was leaving the station facing forward and coming back facing backward. So even with TT's controlled spin, lopsided cars will still affect the spin a slight bit. The queue house mix of bluegrass versions of songs about time is good. I heard Time in a Bottle, Pink Floyd's Time, Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time, and others. I think the youngest song to have a bluegrass instrumental version of it playing is Coldplay's Clocks. Thunderation is quite good, and the wait was never very long. Wildfire was good. The waits for it my 3 days were in the 15-20 minute range. I did it in both the front and back. I like it better in the back. But I don't consider myself an enthusiast with a credit count, so I can't compare it with other B&M sitdown looping coasters. My sister complains that she is just the wrong height for it. If she was a little shorter or a little taller, she thinks she'd be good on it, but as it is she has the perfect height for hitting her ears on the over the shoulder restraints. Fire in the Hole is always worth doing at least once, but I think at my adult height of 6'2'' or 6'3" I tend to slide my knee forward into a hard surface at the front of my car on the drops. Which is a deterrent to marathoning. Still worth doing once a visit, though. Outlaw Run is still awesome, but the original RMC Topper Track coaster might be due to have the topper track re-topped. It probably lends itself to short lines that way, however. But even with short lines, I would ride it 2 or 3 times, then do something else, and maybe come back to it after a few hours. I rode it in both the front and back, as is my norm. It gives more hangtime on inversions in the front, but it is better overall in the back. The new rapids ride was completely drained on Friday, was troubleshooting or something on Saturday, so it was closed but I could sometimes see rafts cycling empty. Sunday it was open, but I was wearing long pants instead of shorts, the forecast was for a high only in the mid 70s F, and I knew I wasn't going to be there all day. So I will wait until a warm day next spring to try that out. I regret not spending more time at the living history sites or craft demonstrations, or seeing shows on my September 2020 3 day visit, but I had fun, and I never got a headache so bad that I had to give myself a breather from rides.
Great video as always. We had 2 weekdays at SDC at the start of August, during Moonlight Madness. The 1 train ops across the board were a killer with the covid rules, but overall we were able to miss most of the biggest lines. Love the park, we had a great time. One note, I really hope you give mystic river falls a shot next year. It's not a huge soaker, and its really fun and unique. We brought a change of clothes I must admit, and one of our waits was nearly 2 hours, but I think you and the family will enjoy it!
Silver Dollar City looks absolutely amazing so I’m glad to hear that even during your most recent Covid year visit that it is still your favorite theme park in the US.
Thanks for the video here's a little interesting thing thunderation use to actually have two sets of seats one sitting forwards like it is now and some backwards but they changed that
I go every year and got a night ride on Time Traveler and it slaps!! Didn't get to ride Outlaw Run at night but hopefully we can this year. I'm slowly becoming a coaster fanatic lol
Row 7 on TT isn’t talked about enough. Row 8 is the gut-punch, but row 7 gives you insane ejector facing backwards. It was so insane, I folded forwards completely over the restraint
I went to Silver Dollar City when I was a little girl in the 1960s. Back then it was primarily the cave, food, and Ozark arts and crafts. Boy, it has really changed!!
I was here today, and I have to agree with you here. Great rides, great food, there's something there for everyone. Rollercoasters for the adventurous, shops for people who want to shop, plenty of places to grab a meal (we went to the smokehouse, was fantastic), and fun stuff to watch/do on the way. Granted, ive only been to about 5 amusement parks so far, but this one definitely ranks number one as of right now.
Great and informative video. Chris, why don't you spend the whole day in a park? That way you can get in as many rides as possible and many re-rides as possible?
I haven’t been to silver dollar city but isn’t it a sister theme park to Dollywood I can tell the similarities between them like fire in the hole is what they would say on fire chaser and I can’t remember the name lol but I think I’m going some time next year so I’m really excited
I live in Kansas City Missouri, so Silverdollar city is only a 4 Hour Dr. I’ve visited many times since I was a kid and love this park! The theme is top notch, the rides to just keep getting better...
If you are a coaster enthusiast, In my opinion Outlaw Run will put a huge grin on your face. Great coaster, fantastic drop, fast and whips you around like we're on a stage coach.
I still cannot wait to get to this park! Just got done with Dollywood this past weekend and despite lrod now down for the rest of the season, I still love the feel of that park and hope silver dollar city is similar as it appears.
We were just there over the weekend it was great they were running 2 trains and the park was not full at all. All rides were walk on. Sadly im now to fat for the seat belt on Outlaw Run 😭😭😭. You should make a large person guide for coaster so we can stop getting embarrassed 😢😢
Yes Outlaw Run's seatbelt is incredibly short, its unlike any other coaster Ive seen. Usually the problem is the bar wont lock, but never seen the seatbelt not be long enough
I got the seat belt to lock but the ops had to come push me all the way down as a sensor went off, (weird exposed electrical boxes on many trains at this park) but I got to ride! I lost 20 lbs and no longer need the B&M double seat belt big boy seat on Wildfire at SDC or Superman at SFFT.
My daughter and her family flew into Springfield MM in October. It's an easy airport to get in and out of and was no more expensive than flying into St. Louis where we live.
With Lightning Rod down for the year with some form of upgrade from RMC coming soon I would expect Outlaw Run to get some form of upgrade to fix the roughness.
I went there in July of this year. It was as amazing as you said it was. It really is one of the best themed “theme parks” in USA. Staff was super friendly, people were super nice, food was pretty sang good. Came here at the recommendation of you. Lived up to the expectation. Which is a rare occurrence for me lol. This year the worse pandemic protocol park i have been to was Hershey.
This park did NOT disappoint! 👍🏼 They have an excellent collection of coasters! Wildfire and Thunderation highly surprised me! One of the best parks in the country hands down!
I happen to currently work at the park, if anyone has questions on stuff just let me know, I work over at Powder Keg and riding it everyday in almost every row, has really made it one of my favorite coasters at the park!
I have never been to SDC but after going to parks like cedar point and hearing multiple people with opinions I respect say that this is the best park in America makes me think the coasters they do have and the atmosphere, Opps, etc must be just out of this world.. can’t wait to pay a visit some day
You really Really REALLY need to try Outlaw Run in the very front. Ejector airtime on every hill and less rough. I really think you'd enjoy it much more. Also try Time Traveler in the very front. The front car spins the most of all of them. Really changes the experience.
SDC is one of those parks I would love to visit, but seems really out of the way from other places. I like to plan trips where I visit multiple parks, so I may have to do a Missouri trip one year and do the parks there to make it worth it.
I remember you've been on water coasters despite not going on other regular water rides, but how do you keep cool in the hot summer heat at theme parks?
Old man (56) commenting here...it's interesting to see Silver Dollar City being compared to 'ride' theme parks..(where the attraction are the rides). I know I'm old..ancient...but every year in the 70s my family went on vacation from KCMO to Branson..and SDC. We didn't go for rides..we had rollercoasters in Kansas City...we went for the atmosphere and the theme...crafts, food and fun. In fact, they actually had to 'hide' the first rollercoaster at SDC (Fire in The Hole)..I never forgave them for that!! I get it..SDC needs to compete with the ride parks. I just miss the park of my childhood where Fire in The Hole was the surprise crazy rollercoaster ride!
5:04 it actually got me wet when I rode it up front in November of 2021. I didn’t get wet in the back, but it really surprised me in the front. It was freezing cold outside, so getting drenched left me laughing like crazy
I couldn't agree more on your assessment. I just got home from my first visit to Branson and Silver Dollar City. We went to the park on Sat and Sun. I had high expectations and was worried I'd set myself up for disappointment. It was the exact opposite. It far exceeded all of my expectations. Time Traveler is off the charts amazing. I got 3 rides, rows 1, 6 & 8. The third car, row 6, spins way faster than the others & was my least favorite of the 3 rides. You gave me low expectations for Outlaw Run, so I was pleasantly surprised on my 4 rides. Powder Keg has to be one of the 10 most underrated coasters. Just like you, I was shocked at the speed of Thunderation. I tried to ride the Grand Exposition Coaster but at 6'4 250lbs, it was like trying to stuff 10lbs of sh!t in a 5lb bag! You have got to ride Mystic River Falls. It was the best rapids ride I've been on & that's not even counting the record breaking drop. It's shocking how much better it is than Dollywood, and DW is pretty damn good. Dollywood definitely has better cinnamon bread though! And SDC should be ashamed for charging for refills on the day of purchasing souvenir cups. Otherwise, it's a near perfect park.
Not seeing a line for Thunderation is definitely a newer development. I spent lots of time waiting in long lines for it in the late 2000's. (and even after Powder Keg opened)
Agreeing with the best Theme Park statement is hard for me as a diehard Universal fan, but what I will say from what I remember from my trip there (it’s been a couple of years since I’ve last been), it definitely surpassed my expectations, and had some pretty well themed spots. Plus powder keg was a pretty solid ride.
I also went on a Sunday this past August. This parks is amazing! Easily one of the best parks in the US. I got 7 rides on Outlaw Run. It is an incredible coaster and in my Top10! I got 3 rides on Time Traveler. The back row is the way to go. I got 2 backrow rides on Powder Keg. The back is great! I agree with you on Thunderation - Best mine train I have been on. I did the back row on Wildfire and it was the one coaster that wasn't quite as good as I hoped. Fire in the Hole was fun. I also skipped Mystic River Falls despite it being in the high 90's. I'm not the biggest water ride fan but it did provide some good opportunities to get some footage of it and it took some of the lines away from other rides in the park. I came away very impressed with this park!
I think they were discussing theming, and every Disney park beats this one trick pony hands down. Honestly for me, it is pretty easy for SDC to do their theming to the Ozarks and the local areas as there is really not much to do, mostly just maintenance. This is very smart and it is done very well, but I get no escape from reality like I do at a Universal or Disney park and with no differences between areas or lands it is difficult to navigate the park( and that lame app they have instead of paper maps). For a roller coaster park against other similar Six Flags type parks, they killed it, but it is in no way superior to Disney for theming. KUNGALOOSH!!!!
Powder keg is terrifying and always breaking down. It doesn't feel safe if you ask me. Airtime in your seat is one thing but the car itself actually pulling itself off the track feels like a tragedy in the making
I doubt people will see this but I just went to SDC last weekend. It was my third trip to the park. I got an incredibly smooth ride on outlaw run! I rode it back in the fall of 2020 and it was awful. I think they might have done some work to it over the winter. It made the ride significantly better and now I think its a strong contender for best coaster in the park
Are you sure that ThuNderaTion has no line cause one time this year 2020 i had to wait 30 minutes in ThuNderaTion que and i think we had to skip the ride cause of the line
Why bother riding the coasters when you can just stare at that hypnotizing Time Traveler sign all day?!
Yessssss lolll I loved doing that when I was there
I usually just stare mesmerized at the spinning ball water fountain for an hour while my kid rides the coasters! 👍
😂
YES! The rest of my family rides it and that’s what I do while I’m waiting for them 🤣🤣🤣😁

Sucks our crappy gov keeps them closed because of the 1000 people limit.

Great and informative video. Chris, why don't you spend the whole day in a park? That way you can get in as many rides as possible and many re-rides as possible?
Going in a few days
I haven’t been to silver dollar city but isn’t it a sister theme park to Dollywood I can tell the similarities between them like fire in the hole is what they would say on fire chaser and I can’t remember the name lol but I think I’m going some time next year so I’m really excited
I live in Kansas City Missouri, so Silverdollar city is only a 4 Hour Dr. I’ve visited many times since I was a kid and love this park! The theme is top notch, the rides to just keep getting better...
If you are a coaster enthusiast, In my opinion Outlaw Run will put a huge grin on your face. Great coaster, fantastic drop, fast and whips you around like we're on a stage coach.
wild fire and time traveler are my faves!
If you're talking coasters along with full theme park experience, this definitely has to be one of the best. Hands down.
I have a tip about Time Traveler. If you want to marathon it, ride it in the evening. It's a station wait!
I still cannot wait to get to this park! Just got done with Dollywood this past weekend and despite lrod now down for the rest of the season, I still love the feel of that park and hope silver dollar city is similar as it appears.
Universal Orlando just announced the VelociCoaster for 2021!
As seemingly the only person who loves that most big parks have a frontier/wild west sections, I think I'd love SDC
If you like knotts ghost town or frontier city you will love SDC
This park only needs three more things: A solid invert, a nice twister GCI, and a Hyper.
Yeah it was absolutely criminal we lost the GCI (Ozark Wildcat) right down the road. It only operated for like 6 seasons.
@@sgtmyers88 I always wonder why it was there
Are you going to do a video of Lightning Rods closer and reopening 2021?
You should do one of these type of reviews for SFOT. Because you recently went there. Also congrats on moving to ok!
He will
I have a pros cons video in the works for SFOT
What is the recommended route of travel to Brunson if driving there isn't an option? Is flying into Springfield the way to go?
Yeah or Branson but its such a small airport. KC or STL are farther away but you will actually find affordable flights there
My daughter and her family flew into Springfield MM in October. It's an easy airport to get in and out of and was no more expensive than flying into St. Louis where we live.
I hope that they keep their status as the best park. I can’t wait to go next year!
The ops were slow in June, but TT and OR were pretty much walk ons the whole time, so I didn't mind
Same for Brad and me.
@@michaelflynn6242 you found me!
With Lightning Rod down for the year with some form of upgrade from RMC coming soon I would expect Outlaw Run to get some form of upgrade to fix the roughness.
alot of people complain about SDC not having enough coasters but tbh i love that it only has 6 coasters
This place looks incredible. Definitely looks the best theme park in the US.
Just need an invert now. Maybe a custom vekoma STC
I was also here in 2020 with Bob, not too long before you. Definitely the best park in the country, and their COVID operations were great!
Looks cool dude. Also to get your attention on the official velocicoaster sneak peak.
Powder keg is so much fun it was my first major roller coaster.
Yeah it makes sense on a missouri trip since it makes a triangle with KC and STL
I remember you've been on water coasters despite not going on other regular water rides, but how do you keep cool in the hot summer heat at theme parks?
The heat doesnt bother me at all, i can do 115 degrees no problem. Just dont like the cold
This is my home park. I can’t wait to see you!
On lighting rod last Christmas I knowtice the rattle but just A little I never been to SDC but want to
Next time you’re at SDC, try at all costs to not get a wheel seat on Outlaw Run, it really really helps with the roughness.
Yea a heads up if you go there more they run one train a lot at silver dollar city
I want to go to this park! It looks incredible!!
Same
When I went to SDC in 2019, all of the rides were one train except Powder Keg
2:16 That’s nice Go to Row 6
have only watched a minute and i can already tell that this is going to be great
I love SDC and Time Traveler.
Can’t believe you skipped the new water ride.
Going to Branson this summer, hoping to get a chance to check this park out.
Was mystic river falls open that day?
I haven't been yet but it sounds like an awesome place that I would love to visit someday
Sadly did not go to any parks this year. Trying to make arrangements to go to Kings’s Island once COVID-19 is over.
Did you try the food this time?
5:04 it actually got me wet when I rode it up front in November of 2021. I didn’t get wet in the back, but it really surprised me in the front. It was freezing cold outside, so getting drenched left me laughing like crazy
Fire in the Hole looks like a sister to Blazing Fury. What ya think?
HAHAH I had the same problem on EXPO! I saw two others our size try as well! GIMME THOSE CREDITS
Not seeing a line for Thunderation is definitely a newer development. I spent lots of time waiting in long lines for it in the late 2000's. (and even after Powder Keg opened)
So if you move to Oklahoma, are you going to make this your home away from home park?
Love SDC! We consider it our home park even though we're closed to WOF. Thrills and teeming are top notch. Perfect food too.
Silver Dollar City, more like Gold Dollar City
Thank you (I know my jokes are bad no need to thank me)
Two drums and a cymbal fall off a cliff
😂🤣
I came away very impressed with this park!
wildfire is literally perfectly smooth!!!!
Airtime thrills, how strong is the positive G Force on Wildfire, is it like Kumba like you said or is it just like a mild B&M?
Not really a positives machine
What 7 coasters do you ride at Magic Mountain over and over.
What that's box on the back of the powder keg train for?
Yeah they are on a few different trains in this park. I noticed them too.
Next time you go please check out Mravel cave. Its such an integral part of the park and its history. You wont regret it!
I rode OR last weekend too and i thought it was riding on square wheels. Maybe depends on what seat youre in
Are you sure that ThuNderaTion has no line cause one time this year 2020 i had to wait 30 minutes in ThuNderaTion que and i think we had to skip the ride cause of the line
A season pass doesn't seem like a bad idea since you moved to OK and are pretty dang close to SDC compared to a lot of other parks.
I went to this park a couple weeks ago and was able to ride pretty much everything with barely any lines
