After 2 rides on The Voyage and 1 each on The Raven and Legend, I was in the ER a few days later. Crazy thing is the doctors can't say what happened to me but it felt like a broken rib. X-rays say otherwise. Now I'm a little gun shy of woodies even though I love them. I did fine on Outlaw Run, Storm Chaser and Lightning Rod but RMCs are much smoother than the other manufacturers. Being a resident of western pennsylvania, I can say that if you are in the area try to support Conneaut Lake Park. They have been struggleing for years now and almost closed for good a couple of years ago before someone bought the park out. The park is trying to retrack Blue Streak, and have done a couple of peices since you were there in 2018, but overall they just don't have the funds to retrack the whole thing and are working with what they have. Maitnace isn't going to pay for itself.

I'm from Erie and I'll tell you that Waldameer has been focusing on the water park HARD since Ravine Flyer II opened. They bought more land and cannibalized their other parking lot to put in more slides, a kiddie area, and a wave pool. So that's where all their attention has been. Maybe now that they seem to have completed that project, they'll focus on coasters. They have a TON of flat rides.

I never had a bad ride on Ravine Flyer 2 during my three visits (2008, 2013, 2018). I last rode Blue in 2013 but I found it to be rideable that day. For me, I consider extreme jackhammering to be rough so Son of Beast will always be the roughest wooden coaster ever in the US along with Hades.

Conneaut Lake Park is coming out of bankruptcy. It's operated as a public trust and they have very limited resources. If you grew up going to the park, like I have, you look past all the warts and enjoy it for what it is. The fact that it's still here is miraculous. Personally, I love going there. I agree that the Blue Streak needs some attention. However, if you ride in a middle seat (one that's not above a wheel), it's actually an enjoyable ride.

Waldameer is my home park! I grew up with the park I guess you could say. It's family owned and they take real pride in maintaining it and expanding responsibly to ensure the park thrives for generations to come. (FYI there is another HUGE parking lot around the other side of the park. It's probably 4x bigger than the one you were in. There is also a carwash a block to the west when you exit. lol)
The Ravine Flyer II I've found to give the best rides in the very back. The park knows it's rough and they've been completely rebuilding (not just re-tracking) major sections of the track each of the past few years. They just did the first drop this fall.
Conneaut Lake Park & the Blue Streak are lucky to be still around and open! They've went through bankruptcies, multiple fires, and tax sales through the past 3 decades and somehow still survived. Although it is now owned by a board of trustees.
The Blue Streak is one of only 2 Ed Vettel's very rare shallow track designs left operating in the world.
CLP has (to my amazement) also been rebuilding significant sections of Blue Streak. They did the turnaround a few years ago, the first and second hills more recently and are currently in the process of rebuilding the lift hill. How they are paying for this I don't know... some funds are from donations I think.
I can guarantee you hit your knee where the track straightens out after the turnaround. That's the worst part and you MUST brace for it or you will get hurt.
Good video though finally on my home parks!

Oh yeah I marathon the heck out of Blue Streak whenever I go. It's actually got some really nice airtime on the way down each of those hills. I saw someone actually almost come out of the car once. Although it may seem rough, after riding it a few times, it almost becomes unnoticeable. But yeah I 100% agree with you about Ravine Flyer II. I went earlier this year and the lap bar hard stapled me and with the roughness, made my thighs start start to feel like what most people say Skyrush feels like. Somehow I was okay on Sky Rush but that was a long time ago tbf. Also Comet is underrated in my opinion. You actually saw blue streak and were like yup back row ride first! What a legend! This is my home park and I ride in in the back maybe once a year when the park is open. And what's crazy is the ride is much smoother than in years past that hill after the turn around would yank your whole body like a violent abrupt car crash. I remember 10 years ago a back row ride was legit scary. God I love blue streak

Waldameer park is my home park. Ravine Flyer II is pretty solid coaster, yes it's rough but it's fun. The last few years they've focused alot on the water park....I'm hoping in the next few years they'll add another coaster the park hasn't had a big addition since they put Ravine Flyer in.

Honestly ... I do this trip every year and it's one of my favorite. You missed out on the dark rides at Waldameer along with the flume. The Musik Express at Waldameer is also one of the best (although not my kind of ride). Conneaut is definitely an experience like no other, but I'm happy to support them as they continue to try to rebuild. It seems the most recent efforts have gone into keeping Blue Streak running and cleaning up the water park. As with many other rough woodies, I've found a middle/non-wheel seat is helpful, so the very back and very front aren't great choices. But Conneaut also has a solid carousel, a very rare tumble bug, a unique train ride, and one of the most bizarre dodgem experiences out there. Also, RFII is still one of my top woodies. Some of the roughness has started to affect the pacing, but it's still a blast. These small parks have character beyond just their coaster line-up. While I'd love for Waldameer (or Conneaut) to get a new coaster, I'm also happy that I can go on a weekend and not stand in hour long lines all day. If I want stupid long lines and endless coaster rides, I'll drive the extra hour or two to CP or KI.

Blue Streak was the first coaster I ever marathoned. The summer I hit 48 inches, my dad took me to the best coaster in the area (because Ravine Flyer II didn't exist yet) and I was HOOKED. We rode it all day long.

Waldameer is relevant because Ravine Flyer II is number 9 in "The List" for wooden coasters on the GTA (Golden Ticket Awards). I checked off all the coasters on the Steel side for USA and made a web site about it. I've done most of the wooden coasters but haven't made it to some of these smaller parks. On the steel side, the most painful coaster is T3 at Kentucky Kingdom because it staples your balls.

I'm a PA native and I love it due to the fact we have so many parks but I have never been to either of these two due to the fact I'm from South central PA (literally 20-30 minuets from the MD line and 1ish hour to Baltimore) so all the upstate parks are kinda lost on me since it's such a long drive!

Do you ride any of the flat rides at the parks you visit? I don't consider a visit to a park complete without also checking out the flat rides. I didn't find Ravine Flyer II to be all that rough, considering it's a woody. But, then again, I enjoy Wildcat at Hersheypark in the back row.

You need to experience Skyliner at Lakemont Park (also in PA). It's literally so rough the cars wiggle a few DEGREES back and forth. It feels like there's several inches of space on each side of the wheels that it just jitters through the whole ride. it has buzzbars and absolutely NUTS ejector airtime. Rough to the point of absurdity. Can't say it was objectively a good ride but I loved it and if I have to drive through Altoona again I'm riding it one more time. Just a shame the oldest standing coaster in the world next to it is still not fixed.
