    After viewing several videos including this one, I went with the EZ Cal. I didn't need some of the features of the higher priced Origin, the electronics, but I did want the fractions ability. Every video I watched compared the build quality and accuracy of the EZ Cal favorably to the much more expensive Mitutoyo brand. Thanks for the good info. Maranatha

    I'm in high school and currently in a manufacturing program I was looking to buy my first caliper and your video helped alot. I originally was gonna buy a neiko one but thanks to your review I stayed away from those. I'm excited to get this for my first caliper and stop using the crappy dial ones my teacher provides us with. I'll be using this one to do all of the nims assignments I am asked to do. Once again thanks for the review keep up the great work man.

      Go for the iGaging origincal. it has stood the test of time. The EZcal has slight issues with the Battery compartmentcdoor.

      I recommend you buy a good quality dial caliper such as a Mitutoyo or brown & sharp and make sure you can use this well along with your digital calipers. What happens when your digital battery dies and your working on a job that needs to get done now? You really going to stop and drive into town looking for a battery because you don't own a good quality dial caliper and know how to use it? Moral of the story, be proficient with both types of calipers. I like and use both kinds.

    i just bought one on ebay because of this review. if its junk, ill be blaming you lmao. very good review. i have been real happy with my $19.95 harbor freight calipers. so i should like this one better.

      The iGaging Absolute Origin one is way better. Definitely worth the extra $20. This one is still better than HF though.

    I'd be interested in hearing about how accurate a digital caliper is "allowed" to be and still be within spec. Not just external measurement but also internal and depth.

    Hey, great review. I bought mine on eBay, cost me 23$ and was shipped from the USA. The plastic box is a bit different, it has some sponge for protection and the outer package is blue and not yellow. What you think? Is it fake or just a new model?

    • @GadgetClass
      @GadgetClass  7 лет назад

      New model. They had an issue with the battery door on the early models.

      Since this review was done, issues with the battery tray have popped up. Great caliper if you get a good one. The iGaging Absolute Origin is still my number one pick. I would send the EZCal back and get the OriginCal. Still use mine almost every day

    I'll be honest, I don't understand the difference between a caliper with absolute origin and one without. How are they any different?

    • @GadgetClass
      @GadgetClass  3 года назад

      Absolute always knows exactly where it is. Non just measures from a somewhat variable reference point.

    Looks a lot like the Moore & Wright fractional caliper to me. To the point where I would say its the same model at a 3rd to half the price.

      The iGaging EZCal and the Large Display Shars are pretty much the same. I think they are made in the same factory. The Absolute origins though, you have the choice of either the fractions on iGaging, or the Auto-Off of the Shars. If you are into SPC data, wait for my review on the new wireless SPC igaging caliper (next week).

    have you tested the battery drain on any of the the calipers you reviewed? I've seen that they continue to drain the battery even when turned off.

    • @GadgetClass
      @GadgetClass  8 лет назад

      I haven't done 1amp draw tests on these. The EZcal does seem to need a new battery after it sits for a few months. The iGaging absolute origin doesn't seem to though. I would still highly recommend the absolute origin one.

    thanks for the review. Looking to buy my first set of calipers. Had a few questions.
    - Aside from the absolute origin and the USB output, was there anything else separating this from the ez cal?
    - If the accuracy is the same, what is the advantage of the absolute origin?
    - How was the ez cal vs origin on the depth gauge?
    - My main purpose at this time is going to be using to make/repair guitars. StewMac has this model (see link below). Wondering if you have any familiarity with it and wondering if you have any ideas on how to modify the origin or ez cal to have a similar depth notch for fret height (I'm thinking maybe a usb-like cap with a notch?)(www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Calipers/Luthiers_Digital_Caliper.html#shop/Tools/Calipers/Luthiers_Digital_Caliper.html?tab=Pictures&_suid=139599873405609125083075743361)

      jmel23515 Sorry for the delay.
      If your are going for a first time caliper the EZCal might be a the best choice due to its Auto-off and large display.(and the price). The OriginCal is geared toward the Mitutoyo snobs that would do with nothing less, but I actually carry the EZCAl with me now for everyday use.

    NOT RECOMMENDED
    Made in China and not in USA
    After a long 6 week wait, I was really excited about receiving the iGaging EZ caliper I bought from Wood Workers Workshop. Unfortunately it was quite a disappointment.
    The general construction of the caliper is quite sturdy but unfortunately it came with the exact same problem of other cheaper calipers I've tried and sent back. The digitar ruler doesn't match the manual one... Which for a caliper is a huge thing. I don't want to have to use the digital one at all times. But I do need them to match at all times. It came with a certificate of calibration... That doesn't really mean much apparently.
    So in face of this, I feel the need to return the product.
    Sent a email to WoodWorkers they immediately answered me back and refund the money. I also sent an email to iGaginng and they never answered me back. The product is Made in China.
