    The Mitutoyo was used as the control for this Roundup since it is often considered one of the best for quality build design, accuracy and repeat ability.
    Even though it is pricey, it is still worth it's place in the market.
    Watch the first video in the series to see which calipers held their own against the Mitutoyo for much less

    For the most accurate measurement - don't use the thumb-roller at all. It can cause your jaws to become non-parallel - depending on the adjustment of the DRO slide - gib on top of the beam.
    Squeeze the jaws together with your thumb & index-finger, to measure the part. This method will keep the jaws parallel.
    Also - you don't check the accuracy of any measuring tool with anything but a calibrated-standard.

    If a person need to precisely distinguish .001", then a caliper is the wrong tool. A micrometer should be used instead. For true precision, the measuring system should be at least 10x more precise than the significant digits of the necessary measurement. A caliper that has a readout to a half thousandth should be trusted to measure values to the nearest hundreth of an inch. Likewise, the .01mm readout should suffice for measurements to the nearest tenth mm.

    caliper is used to rought measurement.
    you need micrometer for outside measurement and bore gage for inside measurement for accuracy.
    still you need digital caliper to rought measurement to use which micrometer length or bore gage diameter tip.
    nice review video from you, thanks for sharing.

    You’re getting .0005 under !! Most mitutoyo come like that out the box idk know why. But close and press the jaws completely shut with a good amount of pressure and I bet you’ll see not always but randomly -.0005 when you do this. Now the key is to press them together and when you see the -.0005 pop up , you need to then reset the origin by holding down the origin button!! Hope that helps

    I think the piece of paper in the sealed bag is for anti-corrosion. It is probably paper impregnated with VCI (volatile corrosion inhibitor). I don't think it is for any type of mechanical cushioning or protection.

    My 6" have been performing flawlessly for 5 years now. If yours read 5 tenths low (as in this video), make sure they are clean by closing on a sheet of paper and dragging off, and/or, try pushing harder, before you hit the origin button...

    Hey bro, where did you get such a small digital caliper? It's very difficult to find such a compact Mitutoyo digital calliper

  • @DrLumpy
    @DrLumpy 5 лет назад

    Measure that 1-2-3 block in a couple dozen places. Then see if it returns to zero repeatedly. Nobody's really measuring thousandths with a caliper. Thanks - Lumpy

    but in the instrument label say 500-195-20 not 196 how you has posted?

    What does the numbers mean on the digital calipers? 500-196-30, 500-196-20, etc. etc. They seem the same.. I was looking at digital calipers on McMaster-Carr, and was just wondering what the difference is. I also see that some are more accurate then others, such as 0.0015 or 0.001, etc.

      MARK 1 They are just different part numbers. Your basic 500-196 is the digimatic 500 series, which is the one most people buy because they are the cheapest.
      The 573-725 is metal and coolant proof and a bit more expensive:

      500-196-20 was an older model. Its production was discontinued and replaced with 500-196-30.

    I bought the Igaging OrignCal 6" and really like it better than this mitutoyo one in most aspects other than the action wheel on the mitutoyo is far better in that it's far better at moving the calipers. The igaging one needs a bunch of force in comparison and doesn't slide as nicely imo.

      Not to mention the Mitutoyo will last 15 years or more and the iGaging? don't count on it.

    hi not sure if u can help me im looking for a digital caliper that has a fixed roller style like a mini teeth and grove set up as i find the slide roller if im trying to make precise numbed scratches of lets say 2mm or 2.4mm the slide roller usually slides to much under my weight to 1.99m or up to 2.6mm.

    I still don't know what the origin button is for at the top right on the caliper. ?

    • @crookedriver2079
      @crookedriver2079 8 лет назад +1

      The origin button can reset the zero point to a place anywhere along the scale. This feature sometimes comes in very handy, but it's hard for me to explain it in words. Mostly used by machinists like me.

      Heung-jae Lee it's genuine. I bought my 500-196-20 and 500-195-20 from a local authorized Mitutoyo dealer (one listed on Mitutoyo website). It's exactly the same caliper as the one I have. Packaging and all.

      Yep, this one actually looks is genuine! (unlike many on youtube). Sadly Mitutoyos are like Samsung batteries - just flooded with fakes.

      This is what the original Mitutoyo calipers looked like. It is genuine. They have since fixed their battery door problem and updated the design.
      None of the fakes had the round depth probe, or 4inch option. These were expensive options by Mitutoyo.
