I have both the iGauging and Mitutoyo Absolute Digimatic calipers and the difference is highly apparent. I bought the iGauging based on this review and when using them side by side there is no comparison in quality and precision. Just the feel of the 2 makes the iGauging seem cheap. They are a middle of the road at best. Don't be fooled into thinking these are of the same quality. Spend the money especially if you are using them on a daily basis

Thanks for the review. But...I received the calipers in the mail on Saturday and on Monday I returned them. I identified two discrete areas along the slide where the digital readout would actually decrement as the caliper was opened. One time, the unit actually displayed 'ERR'. After a short distance, it seemed to re-establish the correct value again. I'm not sure how the counting mechanism works on digital calipers. I'm interested to know if any other viewers have noticed a similar malfunction as the jaws are slowly opened. I'll place an order for a replacement and get back if this happens again. Thanks.

I saw another review that claims that iGaging has lowered their quality "considerably". It does appear that there are some differences with the new units, the lock screw can completely unscrew, the color is more yellow and less orange than your unit and the case is different. It might be time for an update on these new units if you are up for it. I bought the unit that does fractional measurements and my only complaint is the screw, but this is my first caliber so I can't claim to be knowledgeable.

But I am just glad to finally get digital calipers that work at all. The last two $20 calipers I got were literally unusable (Neiko and Harbor Freight). Measurement slipped on every use.

I would really like to see a test on battery usage for these calipers. I know part of the problem with the cheap Chinese calipers is that the current draw is about 4 to 5 times as many micro amps than mitutoyo, even when turned off. that is a problem that I hope doesn't exist with these calipers. I will probably buy them. very nice review. thanks.

i just want to say i ended up purchasing one of these calipers. i am very happy with the feel and performance of these calipers. the battery life is a non-issue. as has been stated in the review, the absence of an auto-off feature is kind of a disappointment but really its not that big of a deal. i have left these calipers on over night twice and they are still ticking on the same battery.

No affiliation with igaging. Watch all of the videos in the series. All of the other calipers under $100 are crap. People have videos of taking apart the Nieko calipers and showing how poorly they are machined and assembled. The igaging OriginCal is the closest you can get to a Mitutoyo and way less. Get a Mitutoyo if you think I'm full of it, but don't get any of the cheapo ones.

I bought the igaging caliper first of all because of the battery cover, and size of battery. It's also good value for money. So tired of the Mitutoyo, and all of it's cheap copies, bad battery cover design. A digital caliper is not a high precision tool anyway, just for getting a indication and 'rough measurement, not point in spending hundreds of dollar to the average home machinist or someone just using it once in a while at work. I can see the use of putting more money into a caliper for someone using it a lot at work and the issue of a wear resistance and keeping accuracy over time comes into the picture
