There are just so many options in standard right now. I just built a card draw control deck with Homunculus Horde as the win con. It is a blast to play and actually wins a decent amount.
I think it’ll always just be too slow/mana intensive to use its ability, and playing it for the triggered ability requires using your burn spells on creatures, which isn’t something the deck wants to do unless required
I just can't see that Kellan being good when Cut Down and Goferdathroat and tons of other removal is everywhere. He's a Savannah Lions that maybe impulse-draws a card, but when is that useful? Spend 2 mana on that turn 2, then whiff a card off the top (can't do anything that turn), then see if he can connect again on turn 3 to maybe give one card? I can't imagine that pushing him to the 3/2 double-strike is ever the right play, that's way too much mana into something that still dies to Cut Down or Stab or Defile. At least Hired Claw always puts damage in and going to a 2/3 can foil SOME removal.
48:23 Why would you not have played Boros Charm on your main phase when they were tapped out? I get waiting in most cases, but there was not a ton to wait for there - they just wound up untapping and keeping counter mana up. Not trying to backseat drive or anything I'm just curious if I'm missing anything.
why not helix your own screaming nemesis in response to their removal so you can redirect the 3 and prevent lifegain, then you dont need to fear the sheoldred.
So I have been brewing a Simic Kill combo with Millennium Calander, Soul Caldron, Zimone + the infinite mana combo (Sleep Cursed Fae + Kami + Realm Scorcher Hellkite) Cause the mode that people haven’t thought about on Zimone is she can double counters on artifacts. So the idea is turn 1-2 Calander then get Zimone into the yard and Cauldron her onto a dude then you have her very powerful counter doubling for doubling anything really but if you happen to get the infinite mana combo and the Calander with 1 counter on it you immediately win the game Snakeskin veil is VERY good in the deck
20:04 attack and if they block, you can double strike nemesis to kill Amalia AND get the no-heal trigger. If they block with weenies, even better. If they don't block, you get 3 face damage and kill Amalia with charm. I don't get what is the point to stand pat and charm face...
@@fernandom.m.pereira4093 "If they don't block you get 3 face damage and kill Amalia with the charm" seems to require him to think the charm alone would be able to do that, which is what I'm responding to there.
The absolute mad lad he played with the lifegain deck was playing flying Bob and Virtue of Persistence in the same deck. I guess sometimes you just want to deal seven damage to yourself and draw a card.
Ive really liked Heartflame Duelist in burn decks. It may not be Bonecrusher Giant, but having a burn spell on a creature is nice. And basically giving lightning helix double lifelink in funny
Don't forget, you can Lightning Helix/Strike etc your own Screaming Nemesis!! So if they remove it, hit it with the helix, reflect the damage and boom you've prevented their life gain all game.
Not that it ended up mattering but it might have been a better move to helix you nemesis in response to the go for the throat which would let you deal 3 to the opponent anyway and permanently lock out healing from sheoldred, cottage or virtue. The risk here being they have another removal spell of course but locking out lifegain is a huge deal for burn
I'm curious to see if you can come up with a boros goblin deck. Have been trying to brew one, but balancing the creatures with the draw/payoffs and pumps has been problematic for me. But I'm just a Pilot who can read peoples minds. I'm an awful deck mechanic...
In game one, your opponent cast Go For the Throat on your screaming nemesis (tapping out) while you had mana up for Lightning Helix. Is it correct in that position to lightning helix your screaming nemesis in response? This still gets you the 3 damage to redirect to your opponent's face, while also letting you put the screaming nemesis 'emblem' onto the opponent.
Honestly, I am very surprized that I do enjoy standard again after its been not super fun the past half year or so. I do hope burn will replace the prowess decks tbh. Idk. I think I prefer playing against it.
I would LOVE for wizards to prioritize making midrange-y burn decks the focus for monored over RDW. Of course the strategy of cheap aggressive creatures will always exist but WotC doesn’t need to be constantly trying to one up themselves to make strong tools for that strategy.
Nice. But I would probably have either 'Bovine Intervention', 'Not on My Watch' or 'Repel Calamity' on my sideboard instead of 'Scorching Shot' to take care of bigger creatures. Edit: Kellan might actually be good in a deck with pump spells, when it gains double strike.
@Volttikoira yeah, you're right, didn't think about that. But still as a sideboard card as an answer to threats that Scorching Shot can't would be beneficial too. Destroy Evil can do it, but it's kinda dodgy.
