Nobody likes the red player. I learned that recently when I played a Dragon's Approach Deck. The hate extended into the next two games. Even after changing Decks.

Mono red copy etb, a goodstuff monarch theme deck, a... tymna jeska beatdown deck and a golgari graveyard deck... they are all spicy and fun but far from being strange

I was imagining they were going to use commanders that have underwhelming abilities but can be used in very specific ways, such as blind seer or norin, or seeing commonly used decks than win in ways that you would not expect, such as a go shintai deck that wants to tutor omniscience to the graveyard and use it to play draw spell after draw spell.
Some of you confuse creative/weird with inefficient and it shows. Or maybe you just think that the commander = deck, which is once again just not true.

Time to be the "Ummm you didn't see this play guy": Josh had an out at the last turns of the game. If he changed his blue court to one of the mana rocks, he could have enough mana to replay Kenrith and reanimate Jimmy's Meteor Golem to target Varolz, which would make Rachel sacrifice a creature to save him but tapping it in the process, removing two attackers. And making a deal to attack Josh with the golem to keep reanimating it until necessary. Sorry guys, I enjoy playing Kenrith because of situations like these
Also the chance for Josh to make Jimmy’s commander indestructible with the last saga chapter- probably wouldn’t have mattered but still a possible out!
honest question here. could josh have made court a copy of fall from favor to enchant the troll to keep it tapped? i am more of a stompy player so enchantments are not my thing so wasnt sure if this would work.
I'm sure there is an editing story here. I would love to hear what it was in a future command zone podcast. They occasionally tell us stories about the production process.

So proud to see my boy Varolz get his time in the spot light. He was my first commander deck and I have been dreaming of new art for him, hopefully he gets a Full art/cool treatment soon!
You see, I love this concept, it gives fans more chances to appear on the show, or at the very least have their favourite piloted by a master of the format, and if you don't pass the audition to appear in person, you still get to be immortalised introing the decks. New set games aside, I'd love to see much more of this, especially with bizarre or hilarious restrictions!

This is a fantastic edition to Game Knights and should be added more regularly. Seeing the reactions to plays the knights wouldn’t normally think of or see was a lot of fun to watch. Great game!
I'd maybe agree with Varolz being a 5, but the rest are 1s, maybe 2s at best. They are very well known commanders, and build as if taken directly off of edhrec. They didn't just pick common commanders, but didn't do anything unusual with them. At least we got to see one unusual pick with Varolz
Respect to Rachel for putting that crown on and taking it off every single turn despite having her hair done up so nicely, haha. Wouldn't have blamed her for just setting the crown beside her each time, but she's committed!
Josh.... re cast Kenrith, and use his last ability to reanimate Meteor Golem for Jimmy, and you might even have enough mana to heal yourself up too....
This episode had me scream "what the hell?!" multiple times at the animations! Not just the flashy ones, the card highlight movement has secondary motion now! Kudos!
I'm definitely all in favor of doing this as a new staple in game knights of playing fan decks it allows fun decks to be seen and show amazing decks made by fans, and i know its good because mtggoldfish and starcitygames commander does fan made decks and those episodes have always been a blast. and this was a amazing gameplay episode as well 35:44. That's surprising?! ITS TYNMA! i've seen her decks get that high in cards
I had a similar idea where you had to do the opposite of the color. Red can't have haste or anything under 2 cmc Blue can't draw cards or counterspell Green can't ramp or have anything over 6/6 White can't gain life or protect anything And Black can't lose their own life or sacrifice their own stuff.
Cant wait for the next episode of fan submissions! Love when channels do this type of thing, always my favorite types of episodes to see the kinda stuff others cook up but have the people of the channel run the decks and find new stuff they like or have a totally different experience than their used to. At 18:55 when Josh just randomly has the Monarch crown on out of nowhere, I LOST it laughing! A few moments later he gets the monarch and puts it on officially, but the premature crowning made my dang day!
Great video! Thanks for linking the deck lists. The earlier part of the video really shows the need for removal to me. Olivia lucked into that 1 card from her deck that could deal with Jimmy's treasure tokens. The deck Rachel was given only had 3 answers for Jimmy's Saga in the whole deck and Olivia's had 2. Josh's had NONE. Out of all 3 decks Void was THE only card I could find that could destroy Jimmy's Treasure tokens at that point. If anyone would have had some form of response to the enchantment Saga earlier the threat would have ended it sooner. Really shows the value of Beast within/ Generous Gift as everything removal and/or other forms of removal.
I love those "wait, we're not dead?" Moments especially when everyone was trying so hard to prevent it from happening. The only thing better are the "wait...... I think we ARE dead" moments no one saw coming
This was definitely a great video and an awesome game of Commander. Also, congrats Rachel for the win. This was one of the best ideas for a Commander episode because not only was it one of the best ones to watch, but it was because it’s always fun to see what the fans came up with with these weird decks and I’m happy you guys decided to pick these fan built decks and took them into the arena and showed them some love. Rachel is one of my favourite players on Game Knights since she's always so much fun and it was nice to see her claim victory…with an amazing victory thanks to Varolz deck built by Raphael. Rachel and Olivia are some of my favourite players I’ve seen so far and it was fun to see them as well as Josh and Jimmy make these fan built decks come to life with some explosive debuts on Game Knights…and it was pretty fun to see Olivia, Jimmy and Josh get taken out as well as seeing them get crushed by Rachel's Troll deck…never underestimate the power of the creatures of mythology. It was also fun to see these weird decks make an appearance and I hope you guys do more videos like this one ion the future...because it was a lot of fun. Great job Game Knights and I can’t wait to see what you guys do next.
One of my favorite things about early episodes of Game Knights was the interactions of Josh and Jimmy during the post-game interviews/confessionals (whatever they’re called); I hardly knew anything about magic but I could tell everyone was having a ton of fun. I feel like this episode has some of that same energy with the constant references to the editors, to Murph, and some of the goofiness during the interviews. 👍🏻
I love the idea behind this episode. I enjoy the shows where you play the new sets but honestly the ones I always look forward to the most are the ones where you just play random cards or whatever you want from throughout Magic's history.
This is probably one of the best episodes I've seen! Idk not in a bad way there have been great matches but this one had such an, in my case, a heart to heart message at the end of the match. Loved this one! Thank you guys 🎉❤❤
Great time to do a video like this. I know my friends and i are doing a secret santa deck exchange. I'm sure other people and playgroups are doing something similar. It's nice to showcase playing a deck that somebody else built
Despite the relatively anticlimactic ending, this was an awesome and explosive game. Also, cudos to the production and editing team. Those were some banger animations and fun cut-aways.

One of my favorite things when finding a new commander group is to play decks I don't know, I'm not trying to win, I just want to see new cards and learn a new way to win. It's like a peak at someone else's creative side.
I've got 2 decks off the top of my head that are weirder than these. A Wernog/Elmar 4 color deck where all creatures are monogreen, all instants are mono white, all enchantments are monoblack, all sorceries are monored. Artifacts are colorless. No multitype cards, so no artifact creatures, etc. I did allow myself to be able to use off-color abilities, so elves that can tap for other than green. I also have a Jodah All Legends Randomizer deck. 55 cards are the core cards: lands and cards that help push the deck forward. The other 45 cards come from a Legends pile that currently sits at 2300-ish cards. I have each opponent randomly select 15 cards from the pile.

Blue IS a color that is associated with a holiday; Hanukkah’s primary colors are blue and white.

One of my favorite things when finding a new commander group is to play decks I don't know, I'm not trying to win, I just want to see new cards and learn a new way to win. It's like a peak at someone else's creative side.
Decks: normal as seeing clouds in the sky
Animations: CRAZY AS HELL

I've got 2 decks off the top of my head that are weirder than these. A Wernog/Elmar 4 color deck where all creatures are monogreen, all instants are mono white, all enchantments are monoblack, all sorceries are monored. Artifacts are colorless. No multitype cards, so no artifact creatures, etc. I did allow myself to be able to use off-color abilities, so elves that can tap for other than green.
I also have a Jodah All Legends Randomizer deck. 55 cards are the core cards: lands and cards that help push the deck forward. The other 45 cards come from a Legends pile that currently sits at 2300-ish cards. I have each opponent randomly select 15 cards from the pile.
Animations are amazing. Love it! The animators deserve a raise!
